Chanakya IAS Academy is one of most successful Coaching institutes in India and I think it is the first institute to start coaching for the Civil services in India. There is no denying of the facts that it has produced so many IAS, IPS, IRS, IFS and State public Services. At present Chanakya has started many new Centres through out the country. Now many coaching centres have mushroomed that specifically trains the students for the Civil Services in Delhi. Rajendranagar and Mukherjeenagar are the two places in Delhi specially famous the IAS institutes like Vision IAS, Vajji and Ram Institutes, Rau Institute etc
Now the Civil services Coaching Institutes have become more like a profit earning business organisation rather than the quality education providers.
Here I am specifically writing about my own experiences of being myself as a student in Chanakya IAS Academy, South Delhi, SatyaNiketan Motibagh. Like the normal students after completing masters become a concerned to build up his future, among 80 percent aspire to become a civil servant which is considered to be the most creemy jobs in India. I joined Chanakya Institute in south Delhi branch in the year 2018. I was allocated a seat in the August 10 Batch 2018. I paid 1lakhs57 thousand as fees for General studies and CSAT and did not opt for the optional Subjects because I was pretty confident otherwise I had to pay more Fifty thousand fees for taking the optional subject classes. On the first day of my Class , some teachers explained us about the syllabus and strategy that has to be adopted to crack the civil Services. One week passed by just the introductory classeses then they started with Indian Polity and Social Justice. Current affairs classes used to be alloted every Saturday and classes used to be of 5 hours.
The teachers started their respective subjects from the very basic standards because in a batch all students were not from the humanities discipline and for them the humanity subjects were completely new and had no basic concepts too.
As time was advancing in it's own natural speed, I came to learn that nearly Fifty percent of the students from my batch were the college students who had just completed their Class 12 and have joined the College. They were in 3 yrs package scheme provided by the administration. Any Service aspirants know very well that one year of thorough and vigorous preparations is also not sufficient to clear the UPSC exams because of it's dynamic nature and mammoth syllabus.
I started feeling lethargic in the class because the classes were not up-to the standards which has to be for the Civil service Aspirants. All the time used to pass just by discussing the topic which were not at all relevant as per the syllabus of UPSC. The class standard never rose up to the level required for the mains examinations. The teachers used to teach as per the demands of the students were in a 3 years package. I started discontinuing my classes as it was not not benefiting me. The administrations were least bothered if complained against the class standard.
Five months passed away and I was in the same level which I used to be before joining this institute. Sometimes Whenever I used to ask any topic relevant to the mains, I never used to get the answer instead used to criticise and made the other students laugh saying the topic is not on the syllabus. Same conditions and nature used be in other classes also. Then came the new batch who had joined in December. The class timings of our batch all changed and they started treating us as if we were studying without paying the fees. Classroom changed, Mediocre Teachers were provided, Cacophony in the class used to disturb the concentrations, Funny test series started where the students were allowed to practise unfair means. It was going all against the spirit of mine. Finally I chose to return back my home place.
I would suggest all the students preparing for the civil services not to join any institutes to waste their valuable money and time. It doesn't matter which institutes you have joined, what really matters is you own dedication and preparations. The institutes have become a hub for only those students who have opted for a 3 years Package course. Those who have cleared the prelims and preparing for the mains should focus on developing their own schedules and fruitful Preparation techniques. Nowadays any one can prepare properly from their own home place with help of various materials and techniques available in the Internet.
This is the harsh truth which every one should understand before joining the coaching institutes and wasting your invaluable times.
