Canara Bank, A Bank with a difference.

Canara Bank has been my Bank since many years. My experience of operating accounts in different Banks in India suggests that normally the Banks originating in South India give better service than their counterparts having their head offices in other parts of the country. Another Bank is the Syndicate Bank which gives good service. I have experience of the New Delhi Malviya Nagar Branch, Dhenkanal (Orissa) Branch and Angul (Orissa) Branch of the Canara Bank, and I have got very good service at these Branches. Of course the Angul Branch of the Canara Bank gives me the best service, because they know me, and I know the Officers who matter. Every month my daughter's Dollar Cheques sent to us for our maintenance, are instantly discounted here and credited to our Account within a few hours.


Canara Bank's Foreign Office in Calcutta is not that quick. You have to know some Bengali Dada or Didi there to get a quick response. So, in the ultimate analysis, it is the customer-bank relationship which matters. Once in a Seminar organised by the Canara Bank at Dhenkanal, I had spoken about this, and their top brass, Mr. Kamath, from the Bank's Head Office in Bangalore, was gracious enough to present me a copy of the Biography of Sardar Patel, whom I adore and admire very much.


The Cancard of the Canara Bank is always in a mess. I am not able to use my Cancard although I have paid all my dues. Because it is the friendly Canara Bank, otherwise it is a fit case to go to the District Consumers' Redressal Forum. In these matters the Canara Bank has a lot to learn from the Citi Bank, although it is a hard task master if some one has not paid the dues in time.


This year, the promotional materials like Calendars, issued by the Canara Bank have been good. The Manager and Senior Officer of the Bank at Angul called on me on the New Year's Day and presented me a very good Calendar and an Executive Diary. Is it not an excellent gesture?

Canara bank was founded in 1906 as Canara Bank Hindu Permanent Fund, after that it blossomed into a limited company as Canara Bank Ltd. In 1910 and after nationalization in 1969 it became Canara Bank.


Canara Bank has more than 2400 branches spread over 22 states. They have international Divisions and Foreign Departments to support NRI’s.


Well I am writing this low ranking review, not because this bank and all its branches are bad but their customer service at Khar branch is really very bad.


The staff there doesn’t know how to behave with the customers at all. I think they need to take some lessons on interacting with customers.


Canara Bank Khar (W) Mumbai. Except me my entire family member’s have account in this bank. (Almost 8 accounts.) My cousin sister handled everybody’s accounts. Every time after returning from the bank she used to complain about the staff’s ill behavior.


After a month she got married and all the bank responsibilities came upon me. Well I didn’t have any option but take over the responsibility.


My cousin brother gave me his salary cheque to deposit and get the new chequebook. He filled the requisition slip for the new chequebook and signed where required. It was my first visit to Canara bank, as soon I entered I first went to the inquiry counter the person at the counter was very polite and showed me the counter where I was supposed to deposit the cheque and get the new cheque book as well.


I went to the counter where two huge ladies were busy discussing about their personal matters. I asked one of her excuse me mam I want to deposit the cheque, but she didn’t respond I waited till 5 minutes, thought she was busy but when I saw that she was just busy chatting. I politely said excuse mam can u please take this cheque she just gave me one look and literally snatched the cheque from my hand after two minutes I nicely gave her the slip and requested her to give me the new cheque book.


To my shock she just screamed at me because I didn’t gave her both, slip/cheque together. Man I was shock everybody was looking at me. I kept my self-cool, well I didn’t wanted to fight with her in my very first visit to the bank. But a lady waiting next to me shouted at the counter lady “can’t you see we are standing from so long and you are just busy chatting”. Hearing this the Manager came out and we both told him the entire story and he was so bugged on that lady and he asked her to apologize for being so rude to me.


After the manager left from there, she started taking against me in her language (well I don’t want to mention the language but I very well understand that language) I just took the cheque book and left. It was really bad; my entire day was spoilt and thought I would never go to that lady again.


After few weeks I went to the bank to get the new computerized passbook. I went to the other lady and gave her all the 8 passbooks. But that lady replied I don’t have time now and asked me to go to the other counter and to my bad luck I had to go to the same lady again.


I didn’t had any other option but had to go to her and when I told her that I wanted the new passbooks, she was like you should get one passbook at a time. I politely asked her is it a rule? She replied harshly NO but I am too busy and can give only one passbook. I told her mam even I am very busy and can’t come again and again with each passbook every time. She didn’t reply anything I was fed-up and straight went to the Manager.


The Manager very well knew that she was purposely not doing my work. He called her in his cabin and asked her to do the work. She just snatched the passbooks and gave me a dirty look and left the cabin. The Manager made me sit in his cabin till she got my updated passbooks.


I asked all my family members to open an account in different bank. Thank god everybody agreed with me and opened an account in different bank.


This was not the only one incident, which I faced, every time my sister had faced their staff’s rude behavior but ignored to complaint.


15 years of account was closed in only 15 minutes only because of the ill behavior of the staff.


Pre-historic banking..??

I have had an account with a atleast half a dozen banks. Many of them I have terminated. The three banks in which, I hold accounts currently are Canara bank, Syndicate bank and ICICI banks. Of the three I have to admit that the one that provides me the least service is Canara bank. But I have to stick with it for some time to come as my salary gets credited through it. Its not a bad bank as such but then its still harping on its traditional methods which has now been thrown out of most banks. Atleast in the branch from where my account operates there is nothing called a computer. Can you imagine a bank without a computer in this day and age...and Iam not talking of a rural branch with just a dozen accounts. Its extremely painful to stand at counters watching the poor staff lifting,shifting and opening huge and heavy ledger books searching for the account details and entries of each and every customer. Its time consuming as well.


To compare the services offered by the best of the three banks that I use, which is ICICI with that of Canara bank would be like comparing Cheese and Chalk. In my city, that is Mangalore which is Iam sure counts amongst the Top 5 cities in Karnataka( which again must be among the top 5 states in India) Canara bank operates not one ATM, at least not one that I know of. The bank also is supposed to have its origins in this coastal district, whose head quarters is of course Mangalore. If the bank has such pre-historic facilities here, I cant imagine the scene in any other part of the country.


I still have to wait 20 minutes, most days to withdraw cash from my account something which takes not more than 2-3 minutes at my ICICI ATM. the time taken is more in case you have to make a draft while banks like ICICI offer facilities like Dial a Draft. The bank works strictly from 10 to 2 and from 10 to 12 on Saturdays (Sunday holiday)which makes it extremely difficult to carry out banking operations for people who are working.An ATM would certainly help people like me who cannot operate the account during banking hours.


Its high time that a bank that calls itself a pioneer in banking services, wake up and realise that a other banks have gone very far ahead. Much lesser known banks in Mangalore have ATMs and computerised customer assistance. One word of appreciation though is the fact that most of the staff at Canara bank are quite helpful to me but so are the staffs at the other two banks.

I have my accounts with Canara Bank for the last 25 years. Compared to many of the nationalised banks it is definetly better managed bank. But once you experience the quality of service at private or foreign banks you wonder how you have been banking with them for so many years.


The only advantage the Bank offers is a sense of security of one's money parked with them and wide network of branches. But in an era of electronic banking these advantages exist even in a single branch bank.


I have found the service woefully inadequate. My first credit card was Cancard and I continued to use it till I acquired a foreign bank's card. You immediately notice the deficiency whether it is in its usability, customer service promptness or billing. I have now applied for SWADHAN ATM Card and not yet received it though 2 months have passed. This delay is unpardonable.


Of course they have been trying to improve their service by computerisation, teller counters, SWADHAN ATMs etc. However if you are not very much in need of Banking services and have all the time in the world and want to feel secure then only I recommend Canara Bank. But among nationalised banks I strongly recommend Canara Bank.

Today 2nd November 2017, I went to Nungambakkam Canara Bank to submit life certificate of my Dad as he was a pensioner. The day before my dad went there to submit his life certificate. He is very weak to walk and he can’t even stand for a minute. They told him to come tomorrow as this was not the date to submit it. Today I went and requested the bank staff to give certificate. She arrogantly behaved with no courtesy and told that she will give only if he(my dad) comes. This was the situation of Senior citizens in this contemporary world. Customer service is pathetic and unfriendly.

Hai guys today iam sharing about canrabank ihave an account with this bank


even friend to us they are support to customers need


my account iam maintained at 10 years family baking


some disadvantages little bit is there, opening account should be 1000 it too high


and we did not have minimum balance they closed the account .avoid this rules and regulations


canara bank provides internet banking mobile banking and different types of loan


in my city there are manynumber of atm canara bank


so manybank offers with saving account


were ever we gosee lot of canrabank atm available, this very easier to getting money


internet through this system is also dong good


they friendly move with service


canara bank manager is talking friendly with me giving useful suggestion.even iam join modis yojana scheme


in my area most of them are coming in rural people they kindly ask her and fill their form.


I like this bank because customer supports


but some times the machione is not properly worked that why we are delay with our entries in passbook


and I liked her way of wishing in mobile our birth date, first wishes come wit this bank our birthday memories
