Cafe Coffee Day, Virugambakkam, Chennai

Chennai is the city of food, happy people, positive energy, heritage and a lot more.But one thing I have noticed is the city is full of CCD outlets.

And which is a fabulous thing.My first official visit to chennai was a memorable one but the only bad experience I had was with the "Local language" while communicating with vendors and auto walas and "Cafe Coffee Day".

Yes, a place that has served as a hub for me during my college days turned out to be disaster, this outlets was located at Virugambakkam, cant really recall the exact address but the moment I entered it was a complete horror for me.The Ac was not working, the customers were loud seriously very loud and were using profanities and when a female customer complained about it to the manager he did no even move a finger to stop them.

I ordered for a chicken 65 and a cafe frappe, the quantity of the cafe frappe was really less, barely 3/4th of the glass was full plus no crumbled Oreo cookies on the top, the chicken was smelling and the bread was crumbling which indicated that it was not fresh, it took my 5 minutes to get a waiter's attention to ask him for a glass of water, the floor was spilled with water and litter to an extent and honestly nothing was impressive about this outlets, a complete disaster and a horror, something I really did not expect out of CCD.

A few yrs before when somebody spoke about a coffee shop the first thing that came to my mind was Central perk - the coffee shop we got to see in friends but today the scenario has changed, thanks to Café Coffee day. Central perk is no where near my mind when people talk about a coffee shop. If you thought that the caffeine present in the coffee is addictive then think again, Café coffee day has created an atmosphere which is a lot more addictive than caffeine itself The youth take to coffee day like how fish takes to water. Coffee day to me is a den where I can hangout with my friends. The best thing about this café is its ambience. Enter Coffee day and you realise that you have entered a zone where loud music goes along with the buzzing of numerous cell phones, loud chatter and boisterous laughter. Pioneers of the coffee concept in India, Café Cofee Day was first started in Bangalore at present it operates 91 cafes across 15 cities. Besides coffee both hot and cold the menu offers cool drinks such as Granitas, Smoothies, Sodas and Fruit juices.If this is not enough Ice creams, Sundaes, Pastries ,Pizza, Burgers, Samosa etc find a place in the menu.The Waiters are very friendly. The speed of service depends on the density of the crowd . With its “we belong” ambience and modest prices coffee day has become a favourite among the coffee crowd. Ideally located in Nugambakam high road(chennai), this café is not very far from colleges like MOP Vaishnav, Women’s Christian college, Stella Maris. Institutes like NIIT, Institute of Chartered Accountancy are just a stone's throw from this cafe. Though Coffee day has branches in Annanagar and Alsa mall, the Nugambakam branch in Ishpahani center is the most sought after hangout. The Flavour of flavoured coffee has impressed chennaite's taste buds, and Coffee day successfully transformed the filter coffee into the mochas and Frappes.

This is a place for good coffee. Please note that I am NOT saying this is a good place for coffee.

I must admit that I haven't tried all the varieties of coffee available here but among all those I've tried, the plain and simple good old filter coffee is the best.

I know I sound a little old fashioned but I like places that are quiet and allow you to chat with your friends/family. I don't like places that play loud music and therefore, filled with always-on-the-mobile teenagers.

Cafe Coffee Day in Numgambakkam was very good when it started off and the coffee quality is still very good. The service is not great though its quite OK if you visit the place late at night on Sunday. The takeaway service is the fastest and is the best bet if you want to enjoy your coffee along with peace and quiet. Get your filter coffee from the takeaway counter, come back to your car and enjoy your coffee.

Cafe Coffee Day used to serve the best filter coffee in Chennai until Barista came along on Khader Nawaz Khan Road.

For those who enjoy a cup of good filter coffee, try Coffee Day's P.B. Selecto which is a blend of Plantation A and Peaberry seeds. This is as good as it gets. Unfortunately, Barista doesn't sell coffee powder :-)
