They set the trend of coffee in India
Aug 07, 2015 01:57 PM 6589 Views

I don't think rest of the India was so fond of coffee before these guys came in(except south India) After Cafe Coffee Day started opening it's outlets people started liking the concept of gathering at a cosy place and have a coffee with friends.

This thing was not in trend before. Initially people were not very happy with the costing but they sooner got used to it. It is definitely a good idea.

These guys have the largest network, and are far ahead of its competitor Barista. But, now Starbucks is in India so we have to see who wins the race. As far as Cafe Coffe Day is concerned I like these outlets. They are always happening with nice music.

Nice coffee brewing all the time and their menus is a great mixture of hot and cold beverages. The food items like sandwiches and pastries are also of a certain quality. The rate card is bit on higher side. The ambience is really cool and attractive with bright colours. These outlets are best place for casual meetings. Or good to hang out with friends or with your partner. Now they should add some more items to menu card to compete with Starbucks.

Nice place for meet ups & coffee!
Jul 12, 2015 01:23 AM 1768 Views

This outlet of cafe coffee day is situated in Ascendas park mall. I used to frequent this mall so this CCD was my usual place to hang out with friends or meet up with associates as well.

The outlet is situated in the center of the mall & is hard to miss which is what makes it the perfect meeting spot. The service here is very quick & cordial.

The staff there had come to know me & my friends by name due to the high frequency of our visits. I used to always order the choco frappe which is amazing as always. The taste is consistent with other CCD's. The place is very well maintained & have made many memories over coffee's at Cafe coffee day.

Nice coffee!
Jul 04, 2015 11:07 PM 1463 Views

This is one of the CCD outlets with the nicest ambiance. A capuccino with your doted ones, what more can you ask for.

The genial, modern interiors are great if you optate to elude the sun and optate to cool down. The alfresco patio is partially covered and a great spot for people visually examining - lots to visually perceive on the main road.

Over all its a nice place. I had been with my colleagues the last time. The accommodation is decent. This place is very expensive though.

Decent aliment and coffee deserts are worth a endeavor. Dark fantasy. Ambiance depends on the outlet. Accommodation is amicable. One of the best places in city to chill out with friends - because of the location and ambiance.

It is ritual to visit this place whenever we are in the whitefield. Tucked in one corner of the victuals court, there are couple of tables with comfortable seating arrangement. My favorite is a sultry cuppa of latte, Samosa and Mango shot. Most of the times we just stick to the coffee which is good.

The accommodation is conventionally expeditious and cordial and the coffees are sultry and refreshing.

Best Place to Hangout

CCD is the first choice when there are bunch of friend and you just to sit for hours and chit chat.  I Love CCD. I've been a fan of CCD since my college days! they have hell lot of options, cold coffee hot coffee, then juices smoothies bla bla. they have options for snacks as well. Going there is never a disappointment . taste is always the same. best place to have long uninterrupted  discussions. peaceful time. I had there Nachos in one of the outlets, its worth trying.

The only complaint I have is there menu is not consistent across the outlets.  Like Nachos you wont get at all the outlets.

Simple love their Cappuccino.thanx fr d koov offer
Jan 10, 2012 06:42 PM 7825 Views

Contrary to what the review before mine says, I actually like their cleanliness, at least the one I visit is clean and tidy. Perfect place to chill out on a weekday evening with close friends. Since CCD is close to my place, sometimes on a weekend morning I carry a story-book to the place and read while sipping on hot cappuccino. But I surely agree that there is room for improvement.

The kind of music is one thing I would change if I could. I also believe that they should come up with new kinds of beverages, cakes and desserts..maybe with a touch of creativity. Thanks for the Koovers treat anyway. At least I will save some bucks on my weekend ccd breakfast visits.

Koovers treat thing sounds good
Jan 10, 2012 03:27 PM 6959 Views

Not sure about the value for money part but like the concept of Koovers treat something I got to know about in the previous review. I took a look at the deal in their site and I agree it's not a bad deal. But the fact is that according to me not many people go to CCD anymore..the price is high in coffee standards and one thing that bothers me is the poor hygiene factor.

Somehow I feel they should take care of that. In place of 80 rupees if I just have to spend around 30 rupees I can actually take my whole family but I will spend even less than 100 rupees in total. Quite good.

Koovers CCD TREAT @ Rs.30
Jan 09, 2012 06:38 PM 6478 Views

I was looking through deals on Koovs and came across something called Koovers Treat on koovs' site. The deal states that this coupon will allow us to get cappuccino or mocha or latte worth Rs.70 at Rs.30-this really sounds like a treat!

This is a very good deal on in my opinion especially because I am the kind of individual who has to visit CCD quite often, thanks to my friends and more friends. And when we go out we generally are in a group of around 10 to 11 people. Quite thoughtful of Koovs!

Go to a ccd with ur own pack tissues
Aug 24, 2011 06:00 AM 8783 Views

Hi i've been to ccd regularly ever since the chain opened its outlets in n around coimbatore for a decade now. recently the standard of the establishment has reduced immensely. latest was when we visited tirupur outlet of ccd yesterday, the coffees and short-eats being bland and tasteless being one issue, the ambience is not peppy or cosy as it used to be. u get a clinical feeling when u enter this outlet. seriously guys NOTHIN' WOULD HAPPEN OVER A COFFEE here, we'd only end  in irritation. we'd gone for a coffee with family and ordered short-eats and coffees, I was surprised when there were no tissues provided along with food.

When we requested the waiter for them, he repiled with a question, do we need them? then he handed two tissues(exactly two), since kids are messy eaters we were annoyed and asked why they couldn't provide more? they came up with the answer that their ration was only one tissue for a food as instructed by the management. a cafe where you get charged for more than Rs 80/- for a coffee would only provide you with tissues only in a ration is really absurd.

Have ccd gone into cost cutting  with such mean issues? we'd never feel like going to ccd again to argue for a cheap issue like tissues and thereby spoil the whole happy feeling of going outing with family.

CCD has worst music
Aug 13, 2011 05:59 AM 8320 Views

Gone are the days when you could go to a CCD without thinking, and end up enjoying yourself. I found this out, the hard way today afternoon.

With full confidence in CCD, I decided to stay for the afternoon. I was working on my laptop and ran out of battery, I decided to call a member of the staff and ask him if there was any way by which I could get my laptop charged. He was not even slightly courteous abt refusing it and did not even try to look for a place to charge it. The question I want to ask is how can there not be laptop charging points in a cafe.

U all will be surprised to hear the kind of music being played at CCD, if any. The guy at the counter has a thing for munni and sheila probably, because he played that song atleast 4 times in half an hour. I guess a semblance of a playlist is too much to expect from CCD. Common guys, that's our hard earned money.

CCD is considered India`s flagship cafe. They really have to get their act together if they want their name to   be taken in the same breath as the Starbucks and Lavazzas.

Love the coffee n cookies here
Aug 06, 2011 04:36 PM 7631 Views

Cafe coffee Day is my all time favorite place for coffee as it also has this variety of food items which I simply love to eat. The Palak Corn Sandwich, the chicken tikka sandwich are my fav. I also the like the chocolate chip cookie and the oats and honey cookie. Its absolutely tasty. The people of almost all the CCDs are helpful and have full knowledge of the things they have. The number of CCd outlets is amazing.

I have been visiting CCD very often. What I like about CCD is that its the ideal one to take someone on a date as well as hangout with your friends. The ambience and decor over there is good. The coffee beans are freshly crushed and it tastes quite good.

My favourite is cold ice burst which is a cold coffee with crushed ice in it.Many patries are even served there. The taste of pastries is quite good.I like sizzler and chocalate brownie.A chocoholic person will surely like it.But the price are very high.A common man cannot visit the place very often. The taxes imposed are also very high. They must think about giving some discounts.

I have been a regular visitor of CCD at various  locations across Mumbai & it is simply one of the better locations for hang-out. This is the best place to take someone out for a date. The ambiance is pretty decent & so is the service. CCD has got a variety of coffees, snacks, pastries & other refreshments too. The coffee beans are freshly grounded & taste just perfect in every sip.

My favourite is mochha chillo which is a cold coffee with lots of crushed ice & strong coffee. It’s a nice place but a few things are over-priced. The rates should be a little low & it would be a perfect place to go daily after a busy day. CCD provides good services but indeed the prices for a  cup of coffee should be made reasonable...so that the common man can even visit it  in regular basis...or kind of discounts must be given to customers who are frequent to visit.

Ahmedabad India
CCD the best place to hangout
May 31, 2007 01:05 PM 2381 Views

After college, we always miss the fun side of life. We found it again at Cafe Coffee Day. In Ahmedabad there are very few palces to hangout. A place full of masti, life and energy. We stay there for hours and discuss different issues of life with friends.   I love the ambience and overall theme of this place. You can play music of your choice, you can have light sncaks and watch TV also.

The place is so live that you feel recharged when you enter the cafe.

Ya sometimes it is too much noisy but I think it depends on the mood of the perosn also. Service is good but they insisit on extra toppings and stuff in everything, which I dont like.

It is not too expensive and same time gives a great experience. Some of my great memories will always make me feel attached with this place. I have shared so many things with my best freind at one of the CCD corner in Ahmedabad.

What does COFFEE have anything to do with IT??
Dec 22, 2006 01:41 PM 6712 Views

Hot and steaming or cold and frothy? A quickie or a long winding pleasure trip? Strong or mild? Makes you “rise” up or get fresh? Shakes you up or leaves you feeling comfortably warm? You prefer it in the morning or at night? Does it make you go Aahaa! Or Aaaahh?!

Now all you dirty minds (et tu Shyam?), I am just talking about Coffee! Well my daily cuppa does all this and more to me. I don’t know where my love for it started. As kids we used to have Bournvita everyday and Sunday mornings, along with Mickey Mouse and Rangoli on Doordarshan, we could have tea. *Then that someday it became coffee and I never really went back to tea ever again.

Now mornings start with a hot cup of coffee made by hubby (I make BAD coffee) and the day I don’t get daily dose of caffeine is not a very good day for me! Even a not so good cup of coffee can get me all upset (so I avoid making it as far as possible!)

In Mumbai, till we were in college, you very rarely had coffee outside. If you went to an Udipi, you would wash down your dosa with it. Most places served Nescafe in cream coloured cups and that’s it. A very typical cold coffee which you had when you were especially rich or had extra pocket money (it cost like 20bucks plus!).

Then somewhere around this time came in Barista, a cool and hep coffee place where you could hang out with buddies, go on a date to impress and generally be seen at. So what if the coffee cost 50rs at least?! I did go there a coupla times, but just didn’t like their coffee enough to spend 75rs for a glass.

Then came along Café Coffee Day. Saw the now familiar Pink- Purple boards springing up in quite a few places and socha lets try it once. Went in not expecting too much, but came back pleasantly surprised. Their coffees were tad more affordable and absolutely YUMMY! My pal used to love some of their joints because they had a jukebox and I was at times less important than that machine. Mayunk and I used to like going there because dates weren’t so expensive and they didn’t come n keep the bill on your table with saunf as soon as they served coffee! That’s what I meant by long winding pleasure trip that a cup of this beverage be. Conversation, sillies!

They have around 15 types of coffees (chaud et froid)) and then some new additions smoothies and granitas which least I am not a big fan of. The hot coffees start at around Rs.25 for your basic cappuccino to Rs.52 for their new addition Orange Mocha which is absolutely fantalicious if you are a fan of bitter sweet orange flavour. They are a bit kanjoos in adding the syrup, so feel free to ask for more. I love the regular Café Mocha, a strong coffee with dash of chocolate flavour. The cold coffees start at around 40bucks and my personal favourite is Devil’s Own a sinful preparation that sets you back by almost 80bucks, but you don’t mind the occasional indulgence. Another interesting thing they have is Chocochino, which is your hot n strong coffee with a scoop of chocolate ice creamand the warm n chilled taste is just awesome. Mayunk rarely orders anything but this on our visits to the café.

They have options of adding ice cream or flavoured sauces, ofcos, for an additional cost if it interests you, though I rarely ever bother.

They also serve a bit of chow and some great desserts, if you would like a snack along with your drink. New kid on the block is Mixed Grain sub kinda thing, which in its chicken form is super! Other stuff is usually pretty decent and most importantly fresh, though you don’t want to pay 25 hard earned rupees for firangi tasting samosas.

The ambience is cool and casual meant for their target group of youth. Sink in sofas to cane chairs, they invite you to just relax and chill. It doesn’t make sense to wait at a coffee day if it’s full ‘coz no one is in a rush to leave. If they were, they would have it at another local joint.

The service usually is quick and enthusiastic and at times they try to sell some merchandise, cookies etc. Yes, they do have T shirts, coffee mugs, coffee powder and cookies to sell also if you like em or want some souvenirs.

I have spent quite a good time in many of their joints. We still go there after tiring day, just to unwind a little bit and go back refreshed to cooking n cleaning! : )

So whether you are in a mood to get a caffeine kick or in so cheesed off that you feel like kicking some btt, just walk into the café and relaxxxxx.

The number of X’s are just co-incidental and have nothing to do with my title or doesn’t make any claims about aphrodisiacal quality of café coffee day’s beverage! Ask THE Doc!

Disgusting staff
Sep 15, 2006 11:16 AM 2855 Views

I AM TALKING ABOUT CCD BARODA AT INOX MULTIPLEX , AND WANT TO WRITE HOW IRRESPONSIBLE WAS THE BEHAVIOUR OF THE STAFF OF CCD. ME AND MY FRIEND WERE SITTING THERE, SUDDENLY WE SAW A MAN GIVING ABUSIVE GESTURES , HE ALMOST REMOVED HIS PANTS, WAS STARING AT US GIVING WEIRD EXPRESSIONS. WHEN WE LOOKED TOWARDS THE STAFF OF CCD THEY WERE ALL GIGGELING AND LAUGHING INSTEAD OF TAKING ANY STRICT ACTION AGAINST THAT SICK MAN. IN SUCH A SITUATION WE REALLY GOT SCARED AND HAD TO RUN AWAY FROM THERE.IT WAS A SITUATION OF EMBARRASMENT FOR US.

I THINK STRICT ACTION SHOULD BE TAKEN AGAINST THIS, FOR SUCH BEHAVIOUR.

THIS CAN HAPPPEN AGAIN TO ANY OTHER GIRLS, AND I M SURE THE STAFF THERE KNEW WHAT WAS GOING ON BUT THEY WERE LEAST BOTHERED TO TAKE ANY ACTION.IF SUCH PRACTICES CONTINUE TO HAPPEN I THINK THEY SHOULD SHUT DOWN THE DOORS OF CCD.

The Indian Caffeine: from the filter era to the espresso era

An article on the business for a product and business review site:

Its Interesting to read the response on what people think about the Café Coffee Day experience, but I’d like to talk about the business in business terms, which might reason why you like the business or dislike your coffee shop.

The "Cafe" concept is something that is borrowed from the western world (Europe to be precise). As children we have learnt about coffee as a very "South Indian” concept and a custom like any other religion. Every South Indian father begins his day with a cup before bragging about everything in the house with the exception of the Newspaper though. "Filter Coffee" was the norm, the bitter concoction sweetened by volumes of sugar. As time progressed, Café’s began to sprout across Indian cities, and almost overnight coffee & especially Café’s become the *in thin. *Well if one ponders over the sudden transition, one will realise that it is the Café’s that gave the bitter concoction its share of fame. Located on the high street, its ambience and the youthful look that Café’s flaunt that make’s the coffees special!!!.

While we have talked about what a coffee is like to the "aam admi"; how does it work as a business in India? Cafes in India are in the business of selling space (leman terms: they are leasing that chair and table that you occupy!!!) In doing so you buy the coffee and the assortment of foods, a soso coffee and decent food. A vast majority of coffee shop goers in India have their reasons to go to a coffee shop: A place to hang out, place to be seen and to see, some place other than work..........while having a cup of coffee is the least chosen of the options.

Coming back to Coffee’s, I am a trained barista, a job that I had taken up to make ends meet during my university days in Cambridge, UK. A gruelling 2-week training programme in coffee making and 2 additional weeks in health, hygiene and cafe management made me a Barista!!! 6 months on the coffee machine and further training in quality standards made me a senior barista with a Trainer badge!!!. Coffee making isn’t rocket science!!! I admit it but given that there is a World Championship in coffee making: It becomes a bigger deal. Basics are sharpened and skills are put to test, man and machine churn up concoctions that carry blend, aroma and brewing to its best.

Returning to India after 2.5 yrs brought me to asses how coffee business works in India, and so I visited some coffee shops in Bangalore (where I am from). Well needless to say it was great, good given that Bangalore was from where the "cafe" bean germinated. The business and ambience were good, but given my skills in coffee making, I though otherwise of the coffee that was being served. I came to conclude that customer ignorance is cafe virtue!!! This is not to say that coffee’s are not coffee’s at all but the basics are flawed and lack consistency (my first cappuccino is never like the second one and so on. Until coffee shops tell you how a cappuccino should taste and look like you will not complain. The Indian customer is being taken for a ride; rather his ignorance and lack of knowledge of basic coffee constituents seems like the best business opportunity.

I list below a short note on some basics in making coffee. Making a coffee has different stages but has to be brewed and served in a step by step process to ensure a good hot coffee. A slip up at any one stage, destroys the coffee. The Espresso is the base for any coffee, and a good espresso carries something called "Crème" a thin layer of golden froth. Crème is achievable when the espresso machine is well tuned by the barista, the coffee grinder is tuned to a semi coarse grind, and the coffee powder is well tamped into the group head (the filter that holds the powder of coffee). Espressos are timed to their every machine to determine consistency.

Having negotiated espresso making comes, blending the espresso for the basic coffee’s, tats where inconsistency works its magic. Making the milk is as important as the espresso, cappuccino’s are the dodgiest of coffee’s, it carries four elements: Espresso, milk, milk crème and foamy milk froth. I could go on but I this has made up for a feel of things.....

Well coming back to Cafe Coffee Day: It is my last choice for a coffee, infact I would choose an Udupi hotel instead. My choice however is influenced by my expertise in coffee making and the need to uphold espresso making. I would not say this if I were not a barista and Cafe Coffee Day is not miserable with its coffee’s but it isn’t consistent, every cup tastes different, so one can imagine what drinking coffee across its 300 odd stores would be like. The silver lining is that they are the most successful coffee chain in India and growing: There are three main reasons for this:

  1. They are in the business of selling space.

  2. Consumers are ignorant of what coffee is like, and merely visit for the experience.

  3. They have the perfect pricing strategy: they are at the lower end of pricing: Hence consumers prefer being at theirs rather than anywhere else: “cheaper leasing space”.

*So what is the future of coffee in India and the future of Coffee Day?

* As for coffee: time will move to when people would really want their caffeine, attracting competition and inducing organic growth into the industry. With organic growth the government will be summoned to open the sector to foreign companies more liberally (well the retail sector as a whole). With competition Cafe Coffee Day would have to strap up its laces and rely on the already established network of stores to hold its market share.

So the next time you go to a coffee shop: care to be concerned about the coffee you pay for.......try to ask the barista and learn more about your cup of coffee: (well you are eventually paying for it): Become the KING!!!

Mumbai India
Customer, what customer?
May 26, 2006 11:24 PM 2639 Views

I haven't sampled CCD in its hometown B'lore but I think the CCD at Inorbit Mall in Malad really sucks big time!

11am, Saturday 20-May 2006: Inorbit Mall is waking up... most of the shops are not yet open but junta is trooping in. I'm one of them -- have an hour to kill

CCD is right on the corner close to the entrance from the parking lot - its about 60% full at this time. I ask the guy at the counter for a Tropical Iceberg and a muffin... he asks me to take a seat first (that's because he's trying to sort out an irate customer who's been waiting for his bill for a while now)...

Ok, I have time... the sofas are occupied -- shucks -- anyway cane chairs r ok -- newspaper? haha -- the only thing to read is CCD's promo material.

11.15am -- Back to counter: repeat request : sorry, ''tropical iceberg'' has melted in the Mumbai heat - there is only one type of cold coffee available - take it or leave it. Ok, and the muffin to go along with it please.

11.35am -- No sign of service, give a sign to the guy at the counter. no response... the CCD outlet is staffed only by this dude and a cleaning guy, who's trying to act helpful but can't do much when the guy at the counter isn't doing his job.

11.45am -- No sign of cold coffee and muffin -- get up and walk off! No one cares to check what happened. I realize that another group of 3 foreigners who had probably wanted to get a morning coffee and s'wiches has walked off too!!

Sip & Surf
Feb 22, 2002 11:26 PM 2134 Views

This is a coffee shop with a difference .This sprung into the the garden city ''bangalore'' ,i think in the late nineties and had soon gained in popularity among the tourist and the teenage crowd .the cafe had branches all over bangalore and was sprouting like mushrooms. This was one of the first cafe that introduced browsing while you were having coffee. Those were the times when internet was hardly know in the city . The main branch is in Brigade Road, Bangalore which was in the centre of the city .the pricing when it came into formation was Rs 200 perhour with a cup of coffee given complementarily to the net surfer .there was a small clause added that the surfer should sit for a minimum of 30 minutes for which it was Rs 100 .The cafe had also seating arrangement for people who were waiting for their friends or relatives who had come in to surf the net .The cafe also provided a person who was like a guide for the people who did not know how to use the web or had any sort of difficulty in getting through the information on the web. the cafe also has a upper deck where we could go and have seating with a few of a friends and have a get together over a cup of coffee and some delicacies. among the delicacies which I had was the date cake which made me bite my hand .the ambience of the cafe is that of the luxury style with the whole room being air conditioned and a soft soothing music made to play.I would say that it is a place which is a meeting point for young college goers , romantic flings and the tourists .The cafe also offers take aways by which u can purchase coffee and take them with u and sip as u walk down brigade road.
