Mumbai India
Bond the fun bar

Bond - The fun bar! The first time when I heard about bond, I thought it would be just another sports bar, however it’s actually a fun place to hang out with friends.

Ambience wise it’s really good. The entire look and feel of the bar is simply awesome with the snooker table, dunk, and a console of video games. It also has a small section which is called 7 degree bar, which is India’s first and only 7 degree bar which serves vodka and tequila in the glasses made of ice.

That’s something really cool I believe. The menu looks really decent which offers a huge variety of starters both in veg and non- veg. There are n numbers of options available for the drinks and price wise also it’s very reasonable. So overall guys living between Thane to Powai can go check this place out!!

Mid life crisis be damned. What do you do when you hit the mid-week crisis? Hang on for a day and a half and then amble over to Bond The Fun Bar at PVR Mall, Mulund. Friday nights they have singing and lots of other exciting stuff happening! These guys realize that shopping is a harrowing experience for us men. That’s why they very thoughtfully hand out small wet tissues to every patron. Wipe off and then look around to see what you’ve now landed yourself into.

The ambience is nice. Soft mood lighting. Bar stool style chairs peppered about the open floor with sofa’s along the walls. The place is not crammed silly with tables and that I think adds to the charm. You won’t have your derriere air kissing the hairy dude’s behind you. So that’s one good thing.

The service is quick and friendly. The boys who serve you always have a smile ready for you…unless you sport a scowl(I normally do, you see) and are eager to please. As a “Fun bar” they do have some fun things, like an dart board game, video game set amidst tables and even a juke box that has a mood of it’s own(It works sometimes!).

Occasionally a dish will take some time to come. But a stern glance ought to set it right pronto. If you’re a Bud guy, tough luck. The place stocks Tuborg, C’berg, K’fisher and some other brands. And serious alcohol too. Greeting you as you rush in should be Joe. A slim guy with also a ready smile. He’ll flit to your side on enchanted wings and inquire as to how many of you’ll are there. Completely ignoring my 6 foot 3 in. frame completely over shadowing my wife who’s 4 foot nothing. In his defense he did show us to a table for 4!

Now about the food: ask Joe(in sotto voce) if the fish is fresh or if it’s something his dear Grandma(God bless her soul) bequeathed him. On Joe swearing on abovementioned Grandma, order the Spicy Fish Balls. This is of course after you have downed your first beer.

The food and snack menu is nice and well spread out though priced a bit on the high side. That’s to keep out the riff raff, I presume. Veggies and non-veggies have more than enough to choose from. We normally pig out on starters and beer. Another tip: ignore the Fish Bezoule. It’s just Onion Rings without the onions. Prices of serious alcohol is on the high side which is I believe a reflection of the depth of my pocket. But if you normally consume your alcohol outside the house then you should not be surprised. I though need the alcohol to deal with reality.

Friday nights the place has a nice night club feel to it with a band playing. Actually it’s a guy with a mic and an organ belting out the required soundtrack. Nice singing though and it livens up the place. He did take requests and we did refrain from requesting a post-modern rendition of “Khaike paan Benarasi-walla!” Har har har! Methinks it’s only recently that the place has got its act together with a PR guy coming out with ideas to get the crowds in and keep them in. We played a small board game and won a discount voucher! There was also a beer promotion that saw us getting a free Tuborg.

So overall, I would say that Bond The Fun Bar is a nice place to hangout with friends and family. Throw a few darts. Enjoy a few beers. And wolf down a few starters. A laid back place that offers quick service and decent enough value for money. Definitely worth a visit. Repeatedly. But don’t get carried away brother.

BOND with the best

The first impression from the outside isnt as good as the experience one would have inside. Bond - The Fun Bar is located in Nirmal Mall somewhere near Mulund. It's a happening place on weekends. The decor is cozy and well made; the staff is friendly and the food - delicious. Of course it could have been much better if someone had a mastermind for such a good theme. I think one has to be remarkably innovative in the hospitality business, if you're not confidant of your theme; you're lacking excellence in your business. Bond as I say is impressive but lot of things could change. That's why I say institutions and degrees don’t make managers but attitude and creativity do.

As you enter the girls welcome you with a warm smile. However when it comes to ordering you'll have to repeat everything at least twice to make them understand your wish, even if you're just asking for the preparation of the cuisine. On two occasions I had to explain what mayonnaise and mustard sauce really look like so that they could get hold of some bottles for me. The alcohol is expensive. A beer would cost you 150 bucks; a cocktail without liqueur would cost you 250-500 bucks depending on what you choose. The food is a bit expensive but worth what you pay for. I was impressed with the quantity of salads and chips I got along with a big chunk of chicken(Chicken Sizzler - 300 bucks). The Sandwiches and other Grilled Items are most recommended. Try Chicken Tikka with Corn and Mint. The Hukka isn’t worth recommending as it gets over in 10 minutes and costs 325 bucks.

‘DJ Sahab’…who was playing Oops I did it again… did not know that my granny would get bored of listening to such old tracks. I asked him if he has Paul van Dyk, David Guetta or Mobb Deep, the ignorant one gave me a numb look, flatter than those cute girls standing in the bar. I asked him “do you play Green Days latest tracks?’ he said “Sir, today is a Friday”…that was enough for me to go switch my I-pod, pull my beer mug and relax in my seat. Ah.the Beer Mug is a gadget. You can switch on the base lights to get a colourful glass which might set you in a state of trance. Bombay seems to be too obsessed with Bollywood. It's difficult to get a place which plays good stuff with rare exceptions like Leo's and Mondegar's. Bangalore rocks in this part of Asia.

Overall it’s a nice place to go with your friends and have a party. Just see to it that you order in advance and you make things clear. On second thought a visit wont ruin your day even if it wasn’t your kind of a place - it's in a popular, swanky mall - so there!
