Mid life crisis be damned. What do you do when you hit the mid-week crisis? Hang on for a day and a half and then amble over to Bond The Fun Bar at PVR Mall, Mulund. Friday nights they have singing and lots of other exciting stuff happening! These guys realize that shopping is a harrowing experience for us men. That’s why they very thoughtfully hand out small wet tissues to every patron. Wipe off and then look around to see what you’ve now landed yourself into.
The ambience is nice. Soft mood lighting. Bar stool style chairs peppered about the open floor with sofa’s along the walls. The place is not crammed silly with tables and that I think adds to the charm. You won’t have your derriere air kissing the hairy dude’s behind you. So that’s one good thing.
The service is quick and friendly. The boys who serve you always have a smile ready for you…unless you sport a scowl(I normally do, you see) and are eager to please. As a “Fun bar” they do have some fun things, like an dart board game, video game set amidst tables and even a juke box that has a mood of it’s own(It works sometimes!).
Occasionally a dish will take some time to come. But a stern glance ought to set it right pronto. If you’re a Bud guy, tough luck. The place stocks Tuborg, C’berg, K’fisher and some other brands. And serious alcohol too. Greeting you as you rush in should be Joe. A slim guy with also a ready smile. He’ll flit to your side on enchanted wings and inquire as to how many of you’ll are there. Completely ignoring my 6 foot 3 in. frame completely over shadowing my wife who’s 4 foot nothing. In his defense he did show us to a table for 4!
Now about the food: ask Joe(in sotto voce) if the fish is fresh or if it’s something his dear Grandma(God bless her soul) bequeathed him. On Joe swearing on abovementioned Grandma, order the Spicy Fish Balls. This is of course after you have downed your first beer.
The food and snack menu is nice and well spread out though priced a bit on the high side. That’s to keep out the riff raff, I presume. Veggies and non-veggies have more than enough to choose from. We normally pig out on starters and beer. Another tip: ignore the Fish Bezoule. It’s just Onion Rings without the onions. Prices of serious alcohol is on the high side which is I believe a reflection of the depth of my pocket. But if you normally consume your alcohol outside the house then you should not be surprised. I though need the alcohol to deal with reality.
Friday nights the place has a nice night club feel to it with a band playing. Actually it’s a guy with a mic and an organ belting out the required soundtrack. Nice singing though and it livens up the place. He did take requests and we did refrain from requesting a post-modern rendition of “Khaike paan Benarasi-walla!” Har har har! Methinks it’s only recently that the place has got its act together with a PR guy coming out with ideas to get the crowds in and keep them in. We played a small board game and won a discount voucher! There was also a beer promotion that saw us getting a free Tuborg.
So overall, I would say that Bond The Fun Bar is a nice place to hangout with friends and family. Throw a few darts. Enjoy a few beers. And wolf down a few starters. A laid back place that offers quick service and decent enough value for money. Definitely worth a visit. Repeatedly. But don’t get carried away brother.
