I seem to be plagued by bad luck... I've been around Janakpuri for about 3 years now after my ex-office where I still goto shifted to B1, we heard rave reviews about Bemisaal (food) from our friends who had been staying in Janakpuri.
True to what they said the food was excellent and I had some memorable times eating at that restaurant and also enjoying the food ordered at my then workplace.
That was then. Of late I have been observing that their food is no longer up to the mark and also seems overpriced for the oily fare that they dish out. Recently a cousin of mine visited me as he had some work at the UAE embassy. I took him to the ''best'' place I knew. After a lot of thought, I ordered some fried veggies for 100 something bucks which was served in a fancy serving dish. It was the worst thing I had ever eaten or seen in Bemisaal. I've never been so embarrassed in front of a guest. Till then I thought that they were packing bad stuff for deliveries as the office had been their customer from a long time and they were taking them for granted.
6+ months later I landed up in hospital due to a stomach infection. When the consulting doctor came over to my bed he asked me where I ate. I thought he was kidding as all the junior lady doctors around him were giggling away. Then he said that a lady had been admitted to hospital for food poisoning and she had threatened to sue (or sued?) Bemisaal and they had come and paid her hospital expenses. That's one mighty drop for Bemisaal from where it had been 3 years before.
Coming back to my luck....
There were a few other good restaurants/eating joints which closed down. The one's that remained downgraded their quality I suppose, or maybe they didnt pay their cooks enough and they quit. Or maybe residents of B1 Janakpuri just didn't like to order from the joints that sold good food or maybe the cops demanded too much bribes... or maybe its just the Delhi model of business where you try to make something for nothing or rip off your customers after you make a good impression at the start or just cheat them not really bothering about whether they come again for another purchase or not.... God only knows!
Bemisaal in District Centre does seem to have a decent fare... at least until a year back when I last ate there... the downside? The seating arrangement/tables are made of concrete and stone and fixed permanently to the floor... there was no way I could enjoy eating without adjusting the distance between the table and my chair...
