Bayleaf, Koramangala, Bangalore Reviews

Bangalore India
Overdosing customers with cardamom and ginger!
Dec 09, 2014 03:54 PM 2523 Views

The Bayleaf in Koramangala has recently undergone a makeover so unwittingly I expected that the food would have improved! The interiors are nice except for the still-new paint/varnish smell.

The beverages are average. I ordered a mock tail called Fantasy which was described as guava juice with a hint of ginger and what I got was a spicy, strongly ginger flavored guava juice.

I had to struggle to finish it. The chicken shorba was laced with a lot of cardamom. The mutton and fish malai kabab I ordered was again very cardamomy.

The Kashmiri pulao was just yellow rice tossed with pineapple and dry fruits.

Initially the restaurant was empty and service was good.By the time we wanted to order the main course, we had to tell a dozen waiters a dozen times. The staff doesnt seem to know the menu very well.

Reservations aren't necessary. The restaurant always seems to have a no. of empty tables.

The mutton curry I had was however the only good thing about the entire visit. All in all a very average experience and an overpriced one at that! Not really worth it!

Preferable for Business Met not for BDay Treat !!

Last week I visited Bayleaf. I planned for several time by I missed it. GO planned to go by sat evening. It was silent less crowd. I saw two tables was filled and then occupied one for me. Ambience was good, Looked at the menu it was not understandble and the rate was bit High.

Not sure why they charge 300bucks for chicken(6 pieces). Taste was good but I don't like to spend these much money was a normal food. They can cut down the cost bit. Beer cost 230 bucks. For two person with out main course the bill reached Rs.2, 000. we ordered 4 side dish(1 veg & 3 Non-Veg). I prefer this place for business party.

Not worth the price tag

Being a foodie and often going to the Koramangla area, I have visited this restaurant on 2-3 occasions.

The restaurant comes with a mixed baggage, with some points in its favor and some against.

Pros -

  1. Some non-veg items like Biryani, Mutton Rogan Josh, Fish curry are good.  Be selective in choosing good items from the menu.

  2. A few nice desserts are available.

  3. The ambience is good, especially if you prefer a quiet meal with a friend.

Cons -

  1. The food is grossly overpriced.  Be  prepared  to burn Rs  600-800  for a  plain meal for  two people.(that  too without  drinks).  Personally, I  would  prefer  to go there  only occasionally.

  2. I am not very sure that the veg fare is really good. I feel many decent restaurants offer the same quality of food at a much cheaper price.  Surely, "dal makhni" at Rs 200 and "Shahi Mixed Veg" at Rs 250 does look ridiculous to me.

  3. Service can be bad, especially at peak hours.

  4. Do not go here in a large group. The place is not too spacious, only small groups can be setated together.

Overall, I would advise people to keep themselves(and their wallets)  off  this  restaurant  unless their company is sponsoring the meal.:-)  Food of same or better quality and of the same  cuisine  is available  at  places  like  Angaan (Koramangla)  or  Angeethi  /  Samarkand (near  M.G  Road)  at  better  prices.

Mumbai India
Definitely a Place to come back to..
Oct 01, 2007 09:30 PM 2818 Views

This time around, down from Mumbai, with my family, this

restaurant in Koramangla(guess I spelt it right), The Bayleafcame highly

recommended from my peers. And it was a refreshing experience.Guess we walked

straight into their Goan food festival, and being Goans, it was delightful and

lipsmacking, to say the least. It was a pleasant surprise, being the orthodox

Goans we were, when it comes to Home food, the dishes were heavenly.Though we

were a little apprehensive about trying the dessert, the Bibinca was just how

we make it down Home.My wife will vouch for it.Even with the busy lunch hour, we

were looked after well, and the service was brisk and efficient. The main reason

for this gesture of appreciation, is the manner in which they made sure my

wallet which was forgotten at my table was returned. They must've made some

effort to take my Bangalore Contact from my visiting card, which had only my

Mumbai office number. It was  a gesture worth this mention.Personally, a

fine place for come back again, next time in Bangalore. A good place for fine

dining.

Bangalore India
Shocking experience..
Sep 20, 2007 05:35 PM 4251 Views

This is to share my experience with 'Bay Leaf' restaurant located in Raheja Arcade. Me and my wife had a dinner plan in 'Grameen' located in the same place on last friday and some how that didn't work and had to go to this particular restaurant.

All the dishes where extremely costly. biriyani @ 500, chicken dishes @ 475..etc..   I dont find any reason for charging like that. I had been to many hotels in bangalore. Cost of items in this hotel were comparable only to star hotel menus in terms of prices, but I couldn't find any thing other than price to compare this restaurant with star hotels, Even basic things like service, Infrastructure, Ambiance..any thing.

What prompted me to write this mail is the end part of this story.  I usually dont tip to waiters unless I feel satisfied. We had 3 roties and one Veg dish from this restaurant. I certainly dont want to waste my money by simply paying to some hotel ppl who are not worth for it.  But on that day, I left 5 rupees as tip though I didn't wanted to do it. Waiter didn't like this and he gave it back to me.  Was absolutely fine with me. At least I saved 5 rupees. 5 Rupees is valuable for me , if not for that waiter. He brought the slip for card payment I did. I just kept it in my pursue.  Next day, I just happened to notice that,  there was a print in the downside of the slip saying 'Thank you, please come again'.

This was crossed with pen, for telling me that please dont come here again. I felt so humiliated seeing this. But unfortunately, I didn't notice this on that day of having food from there. Rather than going there and fighting with them, I thought this is the best way, sharing this experience with everyone. Let me see what a unsatisfied customer can do..

This restaurant is setting wrong precedent

The Bay Leaf restaurant is located at a very strategic location at Koramangala, Bangalore, and there are lots of software companies in and around that place. I have been to this restaurant only once, and although I found the food to be ok, the service of this restaurant is awfully bad.

  1. The water provided tasted a little different, so my friend told the waiter about it and requested fresh water. The waiter replied that it was lemon+mint water, but the reply was sooo cold and indicative(that we were not "fit" for the place).

  2. Recently, there was an incidence that someone tipped Rs. 5/- for a bill amount of 300/-, and the waiters/managers returned the tip, and modified the common bill comment "Please do visit again" to "Please do NOT visit again", by pen. It was noticed later on.

These facts has compelled me for not visiting that place forever.

Kudos from a frequent customer

I visit this restaurant at least once a week. Its where I go alone, I go with friends, I take work related people and I go there at all times. I have been going there for two years now.

The above statement tells you that I like this place and like it very much. The place is small and regularly full. Yet they treat their customers with respect. As a repeat customer I expect to be treated very well and I expect the management to be more accomodative than usual. This too I have no complaintes about.

Here is a summary of my recommendations

  1. Food is good and there are a lot of indian varieties

  2. It is possible(for me always but I am regular....for others its subjective) to get

good wines by the glass. They have from time to time decent white wines.

  1. The service is excellent. On my second visit they gave me a complementary glass

of wine. Once I spilt my wine and they refilled the glass at no extra cost

  1. The deserts are very nice and tasty The Gulab Jamoon is great

  2. Biriyanis taste very nice as do the stuffed parathas

This is how a restaurant should be... they make you feel at home. Dont forget however the place is small, the crowd big so there is a wait....Its worth it.

Fab place for a Romantic Date!

Wanna impress your Girl?

Take her to this lovely place in kormangala... Its ambience is just gr8 with Live music from Bryan... I guarantee that you'd fall in love.(with her and the place!)

Service is prompt... owner is a down to earth person...

has no airs and treats you nicely. Lighting, decor, etc is just perfect...

The best thing is their singer Bryan who livens up the atmosphere with his guitar and mouth-organ. He comes to your table and sings any song of your choice!

Food is also good taste wise, quantity is also ok. An average dinner for two should cost around 400 bucks (wine extra!).

Dont forget to seek reservation on a Saturday nite! :)
