Had my moms umbilical hernia repair done in Apollo hosp, Mumbai.
I had high hopes from the hospital considering the amount charged and the brand name but hospital is like getting treated in a government hosp where u are considered stupid and treated as if you are being treated without a penny.
No clear directions when you get admitted and once you get admitted you are just left unattended. If the bystander is capable, your patient will be ok.No one orients to ward/ noone informs the numbers u need to call for simple things like pillow.Infection control is a joke- saw IV bottles pricked by pen for air vent!!!As a nursing educator for last 15 years in India and abroad, I had to force myself to keep quiet so that I am not labelled as a “difficult relative”.No one uses alcohol gel/ washes hand between patient contact.
Nurses are over worked and stressed and I really feel for them but that doesn't mean I as a relative has to bear below standard care for my mom.I have never treated any patient/ client in India or abroad the way we were treated.
The surgical team was good but still they sometimes talk to you the way you speak to uneducated person- all patients need to be treated with compassion/ care irrespective of the caste/ education/creed.Not sure if this was because we were on a general ward( we paid 2, 20, 000 for 2 day stay though!!!).Bystanders are given a plastic chair- how on earth are u supposed to get a wink on that chair???
Before discharge , we were asked verbal feedback by a lady but no provision informed to write a review.No-one explains the care after surgery- what about people who don't have any medical knowledge??
I am grateful for the surgery done and I am sure we will be ok but but when you charge so much from patients, I think u can expect at least a minimal standard care.I wish all the team of Apollo all the best and hope that they will have more kindness in future.
