Amity Business School, Delhi Reviews

No doubt it's good
Apr 18, 2004 03:52 PM 6311 Views

Dear MS friends,

There is no doubt about the fact that Amity is one of the best in the country. Are you confused whether you should or should not join Amity? Well, You shouldn't be! l personally recommend you to join in. By the way, Which ABS do you want to join. ABS, Noida or ABS, Manesar.

At Noida you will get what all you will expect...Wonderful ambience...numerous activities including sports meet but still it would be a diploma...on the other hand if you choose to have Amity brand name and want to get a degree as well...you may consider attending Amity manesar.

At amity manesar you would find specializations in HR, marketing, finance, IT...I don't know whether they have come up with systems and operations yet...at Amity Noida...The international business course at PG level is doing exceedingly well, however, its costlier than other courses at amity.

Also, if you are trying to compare Amity with MDI or IIM and have been bamboozled by the thought whether you will get all those things which you will at MDI or IIM...then your confusion looks ok...coz still there is some difference between Amity and other Top notch insititutes...

No doubt among the private colleges, Amity is the BEST.

Yours,

Gaurav.

I just came across advertizement in THE ECONOMIC TIMES about early admission process in undergraduate courses in amity university. I was staying in jaipur and heard a lot about amity business school so I decided to pack my bags and try to get in into. My review will be useful if you want to go for early admission procedure (it relives your mind from tensions of admissions into colleges after boards coz results are declared in december itself!!!!)

Now when I got there at around 9.30 AM the interaction already started between parents and institute but it was all messy they were calling the students by name and after seeing their original 10 boards result gave them a paper which was to mention what your father is doing, what your mother is doing etc. etc. but I know it was all formality I am sure nobody reads it afterwards.

Then we were called to give the written examination (no body knew that what will they ask in written as no prescribed syllabus was there). Well it was virtually a CHILD'S play. 4 sections namely English, mathematics, logical reasonings, current affairs. The aspirants need not worry about it at all as if you have studied class 10 mind it studied only than also you can attempt the paper very easily.

Then came refreshment time. They were handing over boxes which contained some light refreshment (I didn't even take it as I was in a worried about interview)

then came the last and the most awaited interview. We all were sitting in a seminar hall and called in a batch of 5-6 for interviews in a class where individual interviews were going on.

When my number came it was around 2 pm. Now I have to say this that the interview was bombarding. There was a lady teacher and a gent teacher from the same business school. And were bombarding questions one after another like

1)why have you came from jaipur to here?

2)why do you want to do this course?

3)your interest?

4)sports?

5)part time activities?

6)and something related to commerce and economics .

But I should compliment the interviewers were helpful and very good.

My interview continued for 20 minutes, and than I was released.

This is my suggestion that early admission is a very good process as it removes all the tensions from mind about admission on % basis into best colleges and thus make you relax for boards.

Selection through MAT/XAT followed by Group discussion (more of a case study kind of funda) and personal interview. Getting through the written exam is virtually a child’s play .Clearing the final hurdle i.e GDPI is a tough nut to crack as they call over 1500 students for GDPI !!.

Rankings-

As per the Outlook survey 03’ – 20th overall.

. As per the BT rating 03’ – 18th overall.

Ranked 1st amongst post 90' private B-schools.

Placements –

100% placement track record . Average salary offered during the last placement session was 3.15 lakhs while the biggest recruiters were ICICI, BPL, LG, Ranbaxy, AT & T, GE Caps and HCL.

Inside story-

Scene 1 : Unfortunately I bumped into some seniors who were hanging at the entrance gate waiting for their respective gfs (the were wearing a kabhi-toh-time-pe-aaya-karo look) . ‘seniors ke samne cig’ pite ho ? aao inst mein phir batate hain‘ (here I’m not trying to say indirectly that I smoke , I’m saying that quite directly , I think ).The previous day it was my friend’s GDPI so we took turns to play the guardian .

Scene 2 :seats in the auditorium ,there were around 100 more candidates for the GDPI session . We were asked to fill up a form and then..ek aur form . ‘write in not less than 300 words , why do you want to do the PGDM course’ ..thik hai yaar nahi karte, tum bina classes kiye hi degree dedo ‘. I’m sure no one read the stuff later and was nothing more than a ritual .

Scene 3 :Scene 3 : A.K.Chauhan makes the entry . He’s your typical NRI . ‘Bhartiya parampara ah ! jahan kahin bhi humare bachee jate hain ,badoo ke pair chute hain toh badee pochte hain – bete Amity mein padhte ho ?’ man give us a break . Excuse me sir , if India and her paramparas are so good , why are you an NRI ? Someone told me he gave the same speech everyday .’ab main aap sab ki safalta ke liye gayatri mantra padhonga’ . And yes he will tell you about his daughter-in-law who is from Jaipur .

Scene 4 :Tea-break . take as many biscuits as you can because no one’s watching . I picked 6 . 6 in the right hand , 6 in the left

Scene 5 :Commencement of the Gd session . We were around 10 in our group. We were given 2 mins to jot down our thoughts and 20 mins fot the GD . Thankfully everything passed off ‘peacefully’.

Scene 6 :Lunch Time . Every one lined up with plates in their hands. I decided that it was my ‘karwachauth varat’ today.

Scene 7 :Scene 7 : PI session. ‘mere number kab aayega’? By the time ‘mera number’ came , the interviewers too were getting impatient . Was asked routine question and they told me that Laloo was quite popular here.

Scene 8 :Scene 8 : We were ‘released’ at around 8 pm.

My Take -

  • Backdoor entry in not news

  • While showing us the placement chart we were told that the average salary for the last placement session as 2.25 lakhs while the surveys gave a different figure . Our queries were not replied to our satisfaction showing us the placement chart he cost of education is quite high .

  • Placement surely is 100 % and top cos do visit the campus but only half of the students get the job of their choice , to their satisfaction , the others have to make do with whatever they are offered.

  • The cost of education is quite high .

  • You won’t find serious/deserving aspirants even thinking of ABS.

...............................................................................
.....................................

The problem is that there are too many B-schools with neither any infrastructure nor good faculty , established primarily with the objective of earning easy bucks . Now earning quick money is not a bad idea provided these B-schools fulfill the other criteria. ABS has got excellent industrial linkage and has an enviable reputation amongst private B-schools. You may join the institute if –

  • You have failed to secure a bearth in a Top-notch B school of your choice .

  • You have no problems with the exorbitant cost of education .

  • You are not interested in waiting for another year .

  • You are ready to water-down your ambitions a bit.

Decide. The choice is yours after all the life is yours.

Hello everybody, especially techies and future scientists of my Great Country! This is a proper place for you to learn whatever you have dream.

I have visited campus and know bright students from Amity University  very closely. Teenagers techies are developed into great scientists and professionals and business community here with fantastic academic environment. It will not be proper here to compare any other institution offering regular studies as Amity's academic/environment standards in general is quite high so students when done with their four or five yrs.of studies can easily enter into foreign Univ.campus environment.

Amity's campus is beautifully maintained. Also the food is very delicious.

Amity arranges Tech fest like technical events and annual gatherings. Its also incomparable to any other gatherings at other private educational institutions in Delhi. Every event is lived by students and preserved in their bright hard-disk for ever.

Amity University, Noida, this name makes my blood boil. Of course in the positive sense. I spent my fabulous 4 years of life in there and I assure one and all of you this is the place to be in.

Let’s start with how it feels to be in there. For this I would like to describe my first week in there.

This was the first time I was in Noida..date: 16th July 2006. My heart was beating like anything when I reached the main gate and saw the logo on the gate. I was enticed by the very first look of the campus. Those avenues, the buildings...ahh...I get goose bumps even now just by remembering the feeling in there.

The first surprise I got was by seeing my room.A small room in Hotel 6, enough to accomodate 1 person. But the hostel boy said that I was about to be accompanied by my room mate shortly. I was accompanied by my father and when he heard that the room is for 2, he freaked out. But that was just the beginning.

Academics was one thing that’s the coolest in Amity, when compared to other Universities. If you devote sometime of yours daily or attend all the lectures I assure you, you will be amongst the toppers in Amity.

Life went ahead, sometimes hard on you and sometimes smiling on you. I remember the vivas session conducted by professors. Some used to really grill while others were too cool to handle.

Allover Amity rocks. I really enjoyed my four years and topped the college.

I just walked onto the Amity University Campus in Noida (in the NCR of New Delhi) and my jaw just dropped. What a magnificient Campus!! From far away you see many red brick buildings growing larger and larger, till you arrive at the campus gate. Let me tell you.

It is tough to get inside! I had gone to deposit the fees for my brother. Only when I showed the invoice did the security allow me to go inside. I was seeing that students had smart cards and were all entering through turnstiles. Cars were entering through barriers. I have not seen such security on any campus.

And the coolest thing was still to come! I was made to sit in a Golf Cart which drove me inside the campus to the accounts office. There it was a mad rush. It seems a lot off students have joined Amity. Someone in the office was saying that over 10, 000 students have joined this year!!. Thank God the campus is big enough.

I could see an Olympic size swimming pool and gym complex under construction. I went inside the TEN !! storey hostel building. Amazing. Apartments of 4 single rooms with living room, pantry and attached bathroom. Didn’t want to leave. You should go and see it for yourselves.

The Amity University had launched a unique Scholarship program many years ago.  This year it has just grown phenomenally.  With Amity doing a high octane television ad campaign for the Scholarships, over 25, 000 students with above 88% and 93% in their 12th Boards applied for the Scholarships.  Out of these, 2000 were chosen to join.

The Amity Scholarship has become a very prestigious program and students have already started applying for the next year.  There is also a Fast-track Admission Process where students who have got above 88% do not need to sit for the entrance test of Amity, the Amity common Admission Test (AMCAT). They are cleared for admission only on the basis of their application Form.

The maximum scholarships were given in Biotechnology and Computer Science, seeing the requirement of the Industry.nn

The Amity Science, Technology and innovation Foundation has also a large number of Fellowships for PHd and Post-Doctoral Scholars.  Candidates get paid a stipend, get free accommodation and a waiver for the academic fees.

I have not heard of any other private University having such a large Scale initiative.

I have just finished my MBA from Amity Business School.

All of us got placed in December itself.  Amazing companies have come and the offers ranged upto 25 lakhs.

We have to thank our seniors for this.  They are doing so great in the industry that companies are literally fighting over who will come on day one to pick up Amity students.

My cousin is doing his engineering at Amity and he got placed in his third year itself.  The brat is just 20 year old, had one more year to study and already had a confirmed job with Accenture for 4 lakhs.  He is enjoying life.  Its Amazing that 80% of the third year students are already placed.

Amity Business School has gone through a lot of wrong rumours being spread, etc.  But they are all being proven wrong.  The industry has given a full thumbs up to Amity as it does every years for placements.

Kudos to Amity.  They have transformed my life!

I am one of the faculty members in Amity University.

There is a lot of confusion about the recognition of Amity so I thought I would clarify it to everyone.

Amity is fully Goverment Recognised!

As per the UGC, an University established by a central or State Act is a recognised University and can award Degrees.  Amity is established through it's own Act and is thus fully recognised as per UGC.

A University does not require any approval from AICTE.  This is prevailing law as per the Bhartidasan Judgement of the Supreme Court.  All the documentation can be found on the Amity website at https://amity.edu.

Amity University is in a sprawling 60 acre campus in the National Capital of New Delhi and is one of the most Hi-Tech campuses in India.  Every student gets a smart card which is used for entry and as an e-wallet.

The campus is fully wireless connected with 15 MBPS internet connection.

Amity students are getting admission into some of the top universities around the world and they are getting picked up from campus for placements like hot potatoes.

I am a student at the Amity School of Engineering and scored 91% in my cbse boards. AMITY has an amazing fast track scholars admissions process where those with above 90% do not have to appear for the entrance test and interview. I filled in the AMITY application form (14 pages!!). I found the reference forms to be filled in by my teachers a bit cumbersome but it was just like American universities. My friend who got a scholarship to Harvard had to do the same thing.

The best thing is that I automatically got a 100% scholarship. Am not paying a single rupee in 4 years except the security deposit of 15,000 which will be refunded at the end. Achieved what I had promised my parents!

There are over 100 scholarship holders in our batch. All are brilliant and it is really fun to be in class.

Our AMITY school of engineering was ranked number 1 in the country for placements by Dataquest magazine! I still have a few years to go but am hoping the trend continues.

I would recommend AMITY to anyone anytime.

I was working in HDFC for 2 years when I decided to do an MBA. I did my CAT and got 94.6 percentile. I got admission in most top b-schools in the Country. But I chose AMITY. This was the best decision of my life.

Why did I choose AMITY? I heard our Founder President Dr. Ashok Chauhan speak to all the students and parents who were there that day. The crowd of students wss impressive. Nearly all were engineers and had workex. Dr. Chauhan was mesmerizing. Being a self-made entrepreneur and a true rags to riches story he gave numerous real life examples and formulas for success. In every other bschool I had only come across academicians who had never run a business of their own. How can someone who hasn’t done it himself teach you? Also Dr. Chauhans vision for AMITY and all AMITY students was impressive. He wants to help make India a superpower by 2030. This is a mission that we all at AMITY not imbibe.

The infrastructure at AMITY is absolutely mind-blowing. 6 MBPS broadband wireless internet!! Makes our wireless HP laptops provided by AMITY zoom like Ferraris. And our canteen must be the best ever. The best is our roof-top sports restaurant. Everything is available there. From smoothies to thai curry to ice cream sodas.

The faculty at AMITY is excellent and the studies are bloody rigorous. And placements are really really good…

Only join AMITY if you are really serious about studies. No jeans, tshirts etc allowed on campus!!

I am a journalist and this is my article which was printed in a leading business magazine of India:

How do you improve on being ranked the best private Business School in the Country three years in a row? By going out and being ranked the best Business School in south Asia by Asia Inc. This is exactly what Amity Business School has achieved.

I walk onto the sprawling Amity campus wondering what the best private Business School in south Asia will look like. Young, smart people sitting in formals on a bench working on their laptops is maybe just what I had in mind.

‘Amity was the first wireless campus in India and we all got Hewlett Packard top of the line wireless laptops the moment we joined’ exclaims Varun Sarin, a first year student. ‘Interacting with each other and the faculty using the intranet is now a way of life. Most companies that come for placements are not as hi-tech as we are at Amity!’

A few chats with students later and it is clear that they are really proud of studying here. ‘I have friends studying in some of the best B-schools in the country and they are all jealous of the amount of industry interaction we have. Which other School has helped the corporate world interact with gurus like Tom Peters, Steven Covey, Philip Kotler, Robert Kaplan and Kenichi Ohmae?’ asks Anushka Rathore while eating her Thai veg curry in the rooftop restaurant.

Thai veg curry? An air-conditioned cafeteria more befitting a five star hotel? What has happened to institutions since I went to college? Maybe this is why Amity is ranked number one…

‘We transform people’ explains Dr. Sanjay Srivastava, an authority on Organisational Behaviour and the head of the MBA program. Apart from the normal classes in management, it seems Amity teaches unique things like art appreciation and even golf. Every student has to have proficient knowledge in a foreign language to graduate. With Japanese, French, German, and Spanish being offered I wonder what else can be left. ‘Military Training is the most fun though’ I am informed by Chandana Mathur, a second year student. ‘We all roughed it for one week on Amity’s 150 acre campus in Gurgaon in our army fatigues. Parasailing and rifle shooting were just some of the things we did. But the most important thing we got out from this was the immense patriotic feeling. We all wanted to join the army!’

With over 92 electives in the general MBA, allowing students to design their own degree, Amity also offers specialized programmes in the areas of International Business, HR, CRM and Entrepreneurship. ‘Our programs are updated every six months with the help of our Industry Advisory Board’ claims Dr. Shukla, the head of the Amity Corporate Resource Centre (CRC). The list reads like the whose who of the corporate world and I am surprised they find the time for all this. ‘Every student has an industry mentor’ adds Mr. BK Srivastav, the former Vice-President, Whirlpool and now a part of the CRC.

Amity has instituted a CEO Dinner Series where a group of students are sent with a CEO to a restaurant to have dinner. Not only do they learn how to interact closely with a leading personality, but establish a mentor for life. With such unique initiatives and the fact that over 500 CEOs have come and spoken to Amity students, it is no surprise that students are getting the pick of the jobs they want.

With companies like Tata Consultancy Services coming on campus and many students walking off with packages of 10 lakhs and more, there is a euphoric atmosphere on campus. Five students suddenly run up and start touching the feet of all the teachers standing around. It seems that India Bulls has had a bull run at Amity. The institute’s slogan of modernity blending with tradition suddenly makes much more sense to me. Where else do you see so many 24 year old touching feet these days?

‘Our real inspiration is our Founder President Dr. Ashok K. Chauhan’ says Dr. Raj Singh, the head of the Business School. ‘He went to Germany over 4 decades ago with only three pound sterlings in his pocket on a government scholarship, and in true rags-to-riches style built up a 1.6 billion Dollar business empire. When Dr. Chauhan talks to the students about his experiences, it is amazing. No textbook can ever teach what he does’

Dr. Ashok Chauhan’s vision is that India will become a World Superpower by 2030. This is why maybe he left the comfort of being one of the largest NRIs in Europe to establish Amity in India. With over 35,000 students across 22 campuses in virtually every professional field, Amity seems to be spearheading the education revolution in India…not bad for only ten years of existence.
