Akbarallys is one of the main departmental stores in Mumbai having few branches spread over the city. I have been to this old and prestigious departmental store a month ago. It is an umbrella store with great quantities of item ranges from scent to Children's toys to Electronic merchandise. I can look for everything appropriate here and the store spares me from moving column to post for the items. I truly like the insides and it gives me the delight to shop from Akbarallys. The showcasing partners are useful. You can likewise get some great arrangements amid celebrations. Their blessing vouchers draw in clients with lucrative offer

Akbarallys is one of the leading departmental stores in Mumbai having few branches spread across the city. I have been to this old and prestigious departmental store last month. It is an umbrella store with good numbers of product ranges from perfume to Children’s toys to Electronic goods. I can shop for everything right here and the store saves me from moving pillar to post for the products. I really like the interiors and it gives me the pleasure to shop from Akbarallys.

The marketing assistants are helpful. You can also grab some good deals during festivals. Their gift vouchers attract customers with lucrative offer. Overall good service offered by Mumbai mall and it is worth visiting here.

I don’t like to shop at such a place.

Akbarallys or ‘Akbar Allys’ is a shopping mall in Mumbai where I have visited for around two or three times only.it a good place to shop anything. I have purchased from there some grocery and some garments also. Garments are really good in stuff quality. I have not a very good experience of identifying the garment stuff quality even then I got the comments from my friend and relatives that you have choose the good one. So I was really happy after shopping from there.

But when last time when I visited there, I felt bad because the staff was not so good and they were looked like frustrated from the customers, especially from the old aged customers. So I have not visited there after that because I don’t like to shop at such a place.

Once Upon a Time there was an Akbarallys
Feb 10, 2014 04:25 PM13907 Views

Akbarallys was once known for being the only departmental store for providing everything under one roof. Over the years, it has lost its charm and to maintain the same standards. I was once a frequent visitor and have been to most of their branches. The furniture by Akbarallys is on the expensive side. Products available are average. The services by the staff offered also is not upto the mark.

The only plus side is the Chembur branch to be better than most branches. There isn't really anything great to write about.

Akbarally worst grade store in south mum
Nov 07, 2012 12:49 PM6996 Views

Have been studying my Mphil for last year in Mumbai and Akbarallys being close to my apartment, I shop for daily needs, groceries there. Of late I have observed their goods are of depreciating in quality.

Earlier even the fabrics were of good quality and I used to shop frequently but now I think they are just getting their brand name into their head after their furniture wing started. Worse still their staff has become extremely rude after they have employed some skull capped mains who stare you even if you touch a thing. Bye bye Akbar ali. Wont come to you ever again

My visit to akbarallys
Oct 05, 2002 07:17 PM3522 Views

When I visited akbarallys there was no akbar to help me, i had a gift voucher of 2500/- which was gifted to me with an intention that I should look more fashionable than ever in my life.I purchased a trouser worth 1200/- becouse that was the minimum prize with which it started so therefore I feel that people who are fashionable normally run short of money and if it is case of akbarallys then people should bring more money for shopping.better carry a credit card.fashion really kills the pocket. this I came to know while shopping there.for  buying floaters I really had to float the money. man for a middle  class person akbar is too far.

Why I want to go to a departmental store?

I want to buy trolley full of material of my choice from one place instead of going to ten different shops. In addition, I need not worry about the quality and price.

Why I like to go to a place like Akbarallys?

I expect something very special from them. I want quality product, better services and some may like to spend one lazy sunday afternoon to search for a collectors item. Most important to me is to select from a reasonably wide range, well known brands, some unique articles. A store as Akbarallys should have articles those are unique and should be available only at reputed places and some may only at Akbarallys. I do not want to go to Akbarallys to buy a birthday gift for my son, which is available at Rajubhai Novelties. Many of the Chinese toys are available at the Ice-cream Parlor of Mathuradas. For a Titan watch, I shall better go to a Titan show room where I can get better service and more verity to choose.

I know, like me, many of you like that place. You know, once I drove 110 km with my family to buy a gift cheque from Akbarallys at Chembur, drove to Pune, and presented it to someone very special because she was crazy about Akbarallys. After a week, I got a phone call and she said,“Uncle thanks. Next time I prefer a gift cheque from a bank.” I said “Sure beta. Please talk to your aunty.” I did not dare to ask the reason. If you go there with a gift cheque, you have to spend the entire amount there. Many a time you do not get articles as per your choice. These Gift Cheques are valid for six months (please confirm) and one can buy in installments. However, in today’s world very few have so much of time to go there several times to spend the money.

One of the member in his review about some other departmental store said better cloths are available at Fashion Street. I believe him. In Nov. 2000, there was an international seminar at Taj Holiday Cottages at Goa. All overseas colleagues traveled to Goa from Bombay. While going back some people from Iran, Germany and Switzerland wanted to stay overnight at Mumbai. Believe me, that Iranian took the group to fashion street (Mumbai) and everyone was carrying minimum three bags full of cloths. What is so special at Fashion Street - Quality may not be the best, no brand name but as per buyers’ requirements.

Nowadays, even the big one cannot ignore customer choice and satisfaction.

They are not bad but nothing special. Since Feb. 2001, I have not recommended Akbarallys to anyone. Yes, for grocery and miscellaneous items there are quite good stores and even chain of stores. Standard of living, buyers’ sentiment, local culture, overall development of the country has impact on such developments. I have not seen a departmental store like “Hertie” (not a famous chain of stores) in India. Let us hope for the best.

FYI - Aristide Boucicaut, a Frenchman started first departmental store in Paris called Bon Marche (French for good bargain) in 1850’s. American businessmen like Marshall Field, Eben Jordan very efficiently introduced this system in USA in a very short time. Departmental stores had spread throughout Europe and USA by early 1900’s.

Fuddy Duddy of a Store

Akbarallys has failed to evolve with the passage of time. Continuing the same business practice since it opening it has lost the opportunity to become a truly great shopping experience. I used to love to drop into their stores earlier and window shop, noting items to be picked when required eg. gifts. However, as time went by I found that they had lost their customer focus and counter staff had become a supercilious lot and the customer was to be tolerated. I found that most salespersons would not even bother to show you the entire range. The final blow was when I dropped into their Fountain Branch to browse and spotted one of the sales persons followed me about as if I was on a klepotmaniac mission. When confronted she snootily informed me that she could do as she please and that she suspected all window shoppers in her area. Well, if this is the attitude I would say Keep Far Away there are plenty of other stores.

A good store!

Akbarally's is a well-known departmental stores in Mumbai with few branches spread around. I am particularly familiar with the Chembur branch. Location is quite okay with access mainly from the Sion-Trombay road. The railway station is not very close by. It is one of the older departmental stores predating big shopping malls like Shopper's Stop.

It boasts of a good number of sections - Perfumes, Personal care products, Household appliances, Children's toys and apparels, Music, Electronic goods and appliances etc. all conveniently under one roof.

Good ambience / interiors and satisfactory air-conditioning considering the teeming crowds during peak hours.

Helpful marketing assistants - youthful and cheerful (beware of hardsell!)

Good deals on various products during festivals, that is a great draw for the bargain hunter.

Popularity of their gift vouchers keep attracting newer customers

Good after sales service (I could get spare parts for my electric shaver quite easily coupled with friendly service from the assistant)

Why you shouldn't shop at AA!

They have something of everything, so special items and brands take time to get into their inventories. That could disappoint you sometimes and you have to look elsewhere.

Inquiries in telephone on stocks get lukewarm response, they always insist on personally checking out at the stores. That is irritating - not a good marketing strategy.

Parking facility for vehicles is inadequate, which could be a problem especially during the peak evening shopping hours.

Not very personalised
Nov 30, 2000 03:46 PM7794 Views

The Akbarallys Dept. store had the potential of rising up to high standards. It was one of the early entrants to store of having all products under one roof.

Initially I used to frequent this store very often. But every business must realise that it is not sufficient to attract customers, but the ability to retain them is of vital importance. Akbarallys lacked in this area. Their stores have the ambience and are well located. But there is much to be desired by way of customer service. Personalised attention is totally lacking. They tend to ignore casual visitors and only if they notice that the customers is likely to buy then someone attends. Initially they did not even accept credit cards for certain items esp. grocery.

I have made major purchases from this store but slowly I have stopped patronising and I now can't even remember when I last visited.

With the mushrooming of Internet shopping, stores like Akbarallys can attract customers only on the grounds of personalised attention.

Not a great place to shop
Nov 30, 2000 03:00 PM7195 Views

I visited this store last week for some branded trouser requirement for my husband but this place doesnt stock complete range of branded products. Branded khakhis and live -in lites are such famous brands but were not available. the range for garments is equally bad at chembur store also.

Also the ladies section is very badly done up and doesnt stock the exculsive and famous designer wear. The beauty section is still okay. Only the kitchen section at chembur was great
