Walkman has been an all time popular music instrument among the music fans for its compact size and handiness. There were days of big players requiring a power source or at least 4 large size 1.5 volts batteries. They had big output and speakers, but we don’t always get to listen at loud volumes. Our want for music need not match with others. So listening has been an event with big systems. Also we can’t carry it anywhere easily. No wonder companies realized this and came up with a compact player requiring just two 1.5 cells. I suppose Sony came up with a one at first. In fact they have made the brand name Walkman famous. Over the years nothing much has changed in walkmans except addition of few features or improvements like Digital Technology, Feather Touch Buttons, Radios, Recording Facility and Bass-Treble enhancement.
This one’s has the least improvement of all. I also have a latest Sony Walkman, which has feather touch buttons, Dolby enhancement, Bass and an input for adapter. Obviously it costs many times than Aiwa’s this model. You can’t get feather touch buttons and hi-fi stuff in 750 Rs. But at least it should have had a small, tiny input for AC adapter so that when at home I can use up the electric supply and save the batteries for outer use. Each time I have to charge the cells, which are used up in 1-2 cassette hearings and eventually discharged. I find this very irritating. First of all I use the Walkman very less because of the Discman and Computer music and if the cells are not charged Walkman is out of question for me. When I have patience (rarely) I charge the cells for 8+ hours and still remember what I wanted to listen.
One satisfactory aspect of this Cassette player (Which it should have) is the sound quality. The previous model of Aiwa I reviewed had a horrible sound. Thank god I didn’t have to use it for long. I managed to sell it with a loss but it’s better having it sold than wasted.
Now we get those China made FM radios for 50-110 Rs but honestly it has a terrible sound quality. The inherent noise is beyond bare able limit. Irony is that the owners of the radios think that the signal is good or some of them even defend their side by arguing that it doesn’t matter if you loose 50 to 100 Rs on such radios. But they don’t realize that you are unnecessarily supporting those producers by paying a small amount though but what amount it would be after a sale of 100 such pieces. These makers are getting huge amounts for a horrible quality product. I’m not sure if the companies are authentic, registered and legal. Whatever it may be, they are having a sale-out among the lower-economic class. What is tragic is that they are managing to drive the money from us too.
Please don’t get allured by the low price, it’s a total waste.
Similar to Aiwa TS-203 this one also has a radio with FM and AM bands. What I most like about it is the clarity. It doesn’t have any external antenna still FM is played with a crystal clear sound. I think the earphone act as a kind of antenna. Whenever the earphone wire is disturbed or moved the radio sound be disturbed. I’m sorry I got a little carried away with radio stuff, Instead of reviewing a cassette player I ended up reviewing a radio.
To add to this feature-less player the company has provided a bass boost button, which thickens the sound without a distortion. The body is common flashy silver colored with a gray back. In Spite having many features I give it a 4 star because of the amazing sound quality with minimum noise. Also radio is there to support the superior sound quality.
Overall the Walkman should be a good buy. Also priced low, this is the best you can get with a brand name of Aiwa. Lastly this one does not have the rewinding button and recording option (very common with Walkmans). Battery consumption is normal with about 1 hour of playback.

- Thank You! We appreciate your effort.
