Adultery - Paulo Coelho Reviews

Good but lacking cohesion sometimes
Oct 10, 2019 01:48 PM 2868 Views

The ending of the book drives home the eternal message of love. Simply put, this book takes us on a journey of a middle-aged working woman(Linda) who is dissatisfied and utterly bored with her married life and who chances upon her former boyfriend Jacob. Although Jacob is married to Marianne, a cunning woman with an acute sense of what is happening around her, he has a proclivity towards engaging in multiple relationships outside his marriage. For Jacob, Linda is no more than an element of satisfying his sexual appetite. However, Linda tries to get emotionally and romantically attached to him though her primary motive is seeking adventurous carnal pleasure outside the normal and routine married life. But she is quick to discover that it is no longer possible to elicit love from Jacob. Besides she has no dearth of love for her committed husband. "I want to fall in love with him(her husband) again. I never stopped loving him.but our life together is verging on monotony. Love can withstand this, but for lust, it's fatal, " - she puts everything she has done with Jacob into perspective. The plot is overall good but sometimes it becomes too elongated and unnecessarily sluggish. However, for those expecting a 21st century Lady Chatterley's Lover are most likely to be frustrated.

Soul Searching Novel

The novel "Adultery"written by Paulo CoelhoIs a fascinating novel about woman name Linda who has every thing she wants externally but lack something she wants internally. In order to fill the void in her mind she had done something where a straight thinking religious person will consider it as a great sin ie, "Adultery". This intense novel shows the character of a bold woman in suppresed state at first and then had a sexual relation with a politician and her ex boyfriend. Here what she tried to do is rather than suppressing whole feeling she let the energy to flow in different way and confessed about this to her husband. In the end during the paragliding moment she understand the meaning of love and eternity. The kind of pleasure she experiences is the gift of nature and that makes to understand who she really is.Paulo Coelho expressed the complex emotion of a woman in simple terms.

Moreover when analyse this novel in terms of morality rather than human emotions and psychology. You can just say it's just an act of adultery. But when you analyse the novel in terms of human emotions it's a novel which has deep essence!

THE LOST INTIMACY-WANT, HAVE TAKE

I read this book sometime back, and I could not digest that boredom from an influential life lead to adultery reason. I just could not connect with the female protagonist and the bad light in which adultery finally came out. It got me thinking and challenged my belief that sometimes adultery helps two married people to live together. It got me to dig further, to talk to married men and women around me. The result was beyond my expectations. I sat penning down what I heard around me and a story was created, my first try as an author. I am deeply gratified to Paul Coelho to motivate me to do this work and bring out to world. My book is published on Amazon-Kindle by the name "The Lost Intimacy" by BABIKA GOEL

Expected a lot from this but was mediocre
Jul 20, 2017 08:10 PM 8023 Views

I was expecting a lot from Coelho after have read so many of his books. I had issued this book from my university library.

The back of the book simply portrays about betrayal and adultery. This never turned out to be a thrilling tale as was expected. It never met the standards of a story(truly speaking)

The story in this book is related to a lady who is a journalist( a rich one) and is married to a handsome guy and they have two lovely kids. The lady is being adulterous because she is bored of the monotony she is facing in everyday life, so indulges in adulterous activities with one of the friend she had in past without her husband knowing all about it.

The story revolves all around the mind, thoughts and how one is affected without a good thrill after marriage. How the lady thinks she feels about betraying his husband and their two loving children and ho the heinous crime is being committed. This story was however a disappointment because I expected more from this author as comparing the other novels he writes.

I was left totally disappointed by Coelho's most recent advertising. Truth be told to such an extent that I attempted to accommodate this bit of work with his others. I found the fundamental character, "the adultress" unlikable and difficult to take. Alternate characters left me quite chilly as well. I continued perusing with the expectation that it would enhance and something significant would happen yet I was disillusioned. I discovered a portion of the communications between the characters absolutely extraordinary and foolish. Truly I think that its hard

to trust that Coelho even composed this. Indeed, even the composition was a let down.

Good book

I totally love the way Mr. Coelho depicts every and everything with so much clarity. Case in point, the paragliding scene was so right, its precisely what an individual feels when they are flying over the mountains. His composition can never be addressed. Along these lines, in the event that you haven't quite recently purchased it yet kindly do it immediately. This book is worth the trouble! Must buy! This is a very good book and I recommend everyone to buy this book.

Dark side of Love, Life and Sucess

Don't go by the name, this is novel is not completely on affair and sex the writer tries to unfold the truth of human psychology with philosophy.

The novel revolves around a successful, influential lady. She has everything she have ever wished for but still she is unhappy.

Reading this novel will require some philosophical bend of the reader. It's quite Intense artwork and it's completely different from Paulo Coelho's bestseller Alchemist.

It's not truly fun to read but it's something which makes you addicted to read more of it. But you should not start reading with this book star with some light one.

Other amazing creation of Paulo Coelho: The Alchemist, Eleven Minutes, The Zahir.

Adultery (Fails to impress!)
Jun 30, 2016 12:25 PM 9048 Views

I am a big fan of Paulo Coelho and was waiting eagerly for the release of this book.

I had pre-ordered the book online. The title of the book was intriguing and I expected to read some thrilling tale of adultery and betrayal. But I was quite disappointed with the book.

The book has less to offer in terms of story. A rich woman with a successful career as a journalist, a hand some & rich husband and two lovely kids commits adultery because apparently she is bored. This itself is a pathetic reason to be adulterous(In fact, every reason is pathetic!).

The writer goes on and on in details to delve into the mind and psyche of someone who is looking for some thrill outside marriage, Something is amiss in this novel and that is the lack of a good plot. Coming from Paulo Coelho, this book is a disappointment.

This book is worth the trouble!

Before the book was released, I understood that would have been a model work. The measure of examination Mr. Coelho does before making a book is groundbreaking. It's plainly somewhat grown-up however its not just one more book, its amazingly spurring and offer responses to those request which I thought never at any point existed.

It's on a very basic level around a thirty-something woman who is depleted with her unnecessarily flawless life and consequently winds up in an extra marital undertaking with her ex from optional school. Finally, she have to pick what's right and need to continue forward with it.

I thoroughly cherish the way Mr. Coelho portrays each and everything with so much clarity. For example, the paragliding scene was so right, its accurately what an individual feels when they are flying over the mountains. His arrangement can never be tended to. Thusly, if you haven't exactly as of late bought it yet merciful do it promptly. This book is justified regardless of the inconvenience!

Adultrated ideas
Nov 29, 2015 05:04 PM 8422 Views (via Mobile)

Paolo has reached the zeniths of popularity after his book "the alchemist" but the writer fails to maintain his level of intellect in this book. It is a story of a sucessfull woman who has a wonderful marriage and settled well behaved kids.

She is living a dream and is luckiest of women to have such a family when she runs into an old high school sweetheart and decides to commit adultery just because she did not have anything else more fun to do. The story makes no sense . such novels send the wrong idea into the minds of young readers so as to what is okay insipe of the fact that such acts are a crime. I do not recommend adultery

Melancholy of married life
Nov 24, 2015 09:10 AM 8187 Views

Paulo Coelho’s Adultery is a novel about a married woman. She has been happily married for many years now. She has a rich husband, a great career as a journalist and two cute children. Yet, there is something missing in her life. The spark in her relationship with her husband is long lost. Amidst all the luxuries, she feeling gloomy and depressed. Visits to psychiatrist, shamans and drug peddlers yield no results. That’s when she goes to interview a young politician. He too, like her, is married. He was the boy who she had kissed as a teenage girl. The sparks fly again and they end up in a relationship which now is only sexual. She feels alive again. She wants to do it again and again. She begins to fantasize about him. She finally confesses her state of mind to her husband, who understands her. Their relationship heals and she feels liberated.

The premise of the novel is easy to relate. We find people who are depressed even when outwardly everything is going fine in their lives everywhere. Paulo Cohelo brilliantly articulates the mental set up of a married woman who is unhappy in her life. Her suppressed sexuality comes to the fore when she meets her old boyfriend. Here neither she made guilty about the adulterous act nor is she portrayed as a woman of easy virtues. She comes across as a natural person.

The book neither claims to be a sequel of the classic The Alchemist nor it says that it will advise you to pick the pieces in your broken matrimonial life. So I feel that comparisons with The Alchemist are unfair. If you keep aside the image of Paulo Coelho which you have in your head(I agree keeping it aside is difficult), you will enjoy this book. I liked the book. It is a riveting read for sure.

A work not to compare..
Aug 31, 2015 11:36 PM 7732 Views

Paulo Coelho is one such author that can make you feel the what he wants the reader to imagine. The author is known for many great works like Alchemist, eleven minutes, the way of the bow, the power of the hearts and many more. Though all of his books have a different story to tell but the style of writing and the question like situation which reader feel every now and then while reading the book is common.

One such great work is very well reflected in his book Adultery. The story is of a woman, who is a well renowned journalist. The woman is experiencing a perfect life where her husband is very supportive and has very well managed to give her a perfect and lavish lifestyle. She even have two kids, who  are good and well behaved.

The story has a triangle where the lady meets her ex-boyfriend, who is a minister in the state. They maintain physical relationship on the pretext of their old memories. How lady moves out of this relationship and the entire story where she meets drug dealers and tries to file a false case.

Deserves all applauds

First of all i'll say that I love Paulo Coelho. His books are very close to my heart and soul. They bring peace to your mind, soothes your soul, purifies your mind and show you the wat of life. His books such as The Alchemist and 11 Minutes had had life enhancing impacts on me.

This too is one such book although not that great but he has reached a level where everything he writes becomes a literary jewel of wisdom. All you have to do is to be patient and read slowly which will let you absorb his ideas to the fullest. I wish I had more time so that I can read all his books in one go. Also, english translation is very good and effortlessly readable.

As I expected this book to be a phenomenal read, 'Adultery' didn't disappointed me even for a moment. This is a'Must-Recommend' Book. And it's really a Privilege to read Paulo Coelho's book.

The title doesn't do the novel justice.

I've been a fan of Paulo Coelho's for many years. What I especially enjoy is the modern fairy tale feel his novels have thanks to his beautiful language, even when they're set in a modern urban world. "Adultery" is not an exception.

I always know when picking up a Paulo Coelho novel, that it's not going to be just a story. It'll force me to think and many times my eyes are opened up to new views. However, there is a fine line between a self-help book and a novel which incorporates philosophical views. Unfortunately I don't feel that Coelho found a smooth way to share his views this time. At times there were long, preachy internal monologues by Linda and the dialogues between the characters did not sound natrual. The characters seemed more like puppets reading rehearsed lines set up to make it easier for the author to convey his point of view. Some of these ideas also sounded farfetched and at times they were even redundant, when the same views were repeated several times in different metaphors.

It's about so much more than adultery. The adultery is just a result of what this woman is going through, and the novel is about so much more than that. Although my experience this time wasn't as great as reading Coelho's other novels, I would still recommend this book as a valuable read. And I do appreciate his beautiful language, that I am willing to forgive the preachiness.
