My Canon E 510 showed gradual decline in performance. First thing I noticed was the Restart button didn't work. But it still was printing and I was happy even with the few paper jams and coping with no duplex printing etc.
Then came the time when I had to get the printer serviced as it was not printing at all.
I should say it managed to work for 2 years. So it isn't a bad product by itself.
But Canon service for copiers/printers is a different story.
I booked a call on their toll free number 1800 180 3366( I know the number by heart now is an indication of how many times I had to call them!)
Pat comes the reply you "Our Engineer will visit you in 24 to 48 hours"
I waited 3 days.
No response.
Called their toll free again.
Their replay: "Our Engineer has not called? I will Escalate this, so that you will surely get a call in 24 hours"
Another day. No response.
I called again. Each day I was promised further escalation.
The only thing that really escalated was my stress!
My kids had to skip their printing requirements such as project reports(not to speak of my own).
Finally yesterday on the fifth day after booking the complaint they gave me their service center's number.
It doesn't work after 5 .so again no service.
Today finally I got the service center and they promptly gave me a number of their service engineer.
After several calls thru all morning, he finally showed up.
Had a 5 minute inspection and said this thing needs to be taken to the service centre.
I'll take it in the evening! I have another call to attend next!
And he never showed up in the evening.
When called he says he will come and pick it up on monday.
When will you come, I ask wanting to know the time.
"I will call you when I come"
Does he expect me to wait for his call all day, sitting at home?
*Take my advice, if you need service simply don't buy Canon.
In fact i'm already in the process of buying a printer of a different company.
So if you want to do that.(spend money on more than one printer) go ahead and risk your money on Canon's non-existent and extremely shoddy service.*
The service centre I had the ordeal with is in Kochi, Kerala .
Update: 17/12/2015
After 10 full days and a dozen calls to the Ernakulam(Kochi) Service center, finally the technician took the printer at 9.00 pm tied on the back carrier of his bike on a rainy night!
I don't know how safe THAT is, especially since it was rainy and the roads are uneven.
And they haven't called in two days and when I called them today they said they have NOT EVEN CHECKED the device!
I seriously doubt if these guys employed by Canon is doing us a service at all.
And the call center guy is forever ready with the reply "Please don't worry .the service engineer will call you "
So far they have promised at least 5 times that a service engineer will call me and so far no one has called me.
I told him mere words were not enough, and that the brand name of Canon was really losing credibility in Ernakulam with its shoddy service.
- Thank You! We appreciate your effort.
