Review of MF 4122
Dec 09, 2007 07:13 PM9130 Views

Writing this under category of MF 4150, as there is no seperate entry for MF 4122. The 4122 is very similar to 4150 without the fax.

I was particular about getting a Canon printer as all the HP models I had used to date had problems with paper jamming or the printer having difficulty picking up the paper. My dealer suggested Samsung as it was cheaper than the Canon and apparently comes with more features, . But many reviews I read of about Samsung complained about poor service during warranty and worse problems with paper jam. The dealers here in Bangalore suggest against Canon as it is not widely used, and probably because they get lower margins with Canon.

But I stuck to my decision and boy am I happy with the choice.  Canon has got the basics of printing right and the product is a pleasure to use.

Design and build: Product looks clean, with no hinges, cutouts or details visible. All sides except front are clean, buttons and ports are recessed and are well protected when the printer is moved around in tight space.  All moving parts feel pretty solid to use and small details like paper width adjusters are well made. Just to nitpick, the cover for paper tray feels a little clumsy compared to rest of the product.

Installation: Nothing much to complain about. For some strange reason, Canon insists on the software being installed before the printer is connected. I dutifully followed this and everything worked without a hassle.

Printer Operation: The machine startup is very quick and printing is fast. Duplex printing feature is very useful. Paper feeder works perfectly, a first I have seen for such a cheap machine. Cant say anything about printing on envelops as I have not tried them yet. Print quality is spot on or at least as good any other printout I have seen to date.

Scanner: Did some basic scanning to test it and got pretty good results. I primarily bought it for its copier function, and scanning is a nice add-on for me is all I can say.

Copier: This function works  even when the printer is not connected to a computer. The options for copying are set on the printer control panel in the front. This could have been more intuitive,  but nevertheless it is very usable. Most of my copying has been of Text and its quality in this has been outstanding. The machine kind of processes the scanned image to intensify actual content and filter out noise like spots on the paper. So you end up with a copy that looks better then the original!

There is a energy saving feature that puts the m/c to sleep mode after a preset time and this apparently consumes less power.

My experience with this product has been great to date. Canon has used all its experience to get the basics and small details right, and it shows in the way the product works flawlessly everyday. Printer defaults are wisely chosen and there is really not much to complain about.  I'll update the review when the printer has run sufficiently to comment on its running costs. All in all a very good buy.

Must for Home Office Productivity
Nov 06, 2007 02:53 PM5846 Views

After doing decent amount research online and re-reading product specs I chose this product. I work from home most of the time. Without copier and Fax machine at home I had to occasionally run to the nearby Xerox shop. So I decided to buy this machine to increase productivity. After reading product specs I narrowed down my choices to Canon MF-4150 & Samsung 4251-F. Canon MF-4150 costs Rs. 15, 500(This is not MRP price. Be sure to bargain to get this price or lower.)(I bought this from ACCESS COMPUTER DATA CORP in Chennai.

You can find their number from canon Indian website) Samsung costs Rs. 13, 500. Samsung 4251-F sell lot more units in India than Canon MF-4150. I would guess Samsung 4251 is also a good product. Canon offers duplex printing.(You can print double sided pages directly from computer. No need to switch papers.) Also canon copier supports 1-2 sided copying. Canon is little more compact than Samsung.(61k cubic cm Vs 72 cubic cm) Canon has 250 sheet input tray compared to Samsung's 100 sheet input tray. Canon has 100 sheet output tray compared to 50 sheet output tray of Samsung. Canon has 4MB fax memory compared to Samsung's 2MB.

Canon's advertised toner cartridge yield is 2000 pages. Samsung offers 3000 pages yield. Few people had mentioned in internet that paper hardly get stuck in canon printer. This was an important parameter for me. My ex HP printer gets stuck with paper occasionally. And It is an annoying thing, when you are urgently printing documents. Automatic document feeder is nice. You could either use ADF or flatbed for copying. Fax, Scan all very easy to operate from computer.
