He was a good ruler but his chief minister was greedy, cunning and Deceitful. In front of the Sultan, he pretended to be honest and fair but often tricked poor farmers to give their land away. A man called Abdul, in need of money, went to see the chief minister. The chief minister knew Abdul owned a very large field. He struck a bargain with him. If Abdul found answers to his three questions, he would be granted a substantial amount of gold. And if he didn’t, his land would go to the chief minister and he would not get any gold. Simple-minded Abdul agreed. Abdul has to find out where the centre of the earth is, the exact number of stars in the sky and exact number of hair in the chief –Minister’s beard. All the questions were sure weird and he had only twenty four hours to give in his answers. Not far from Abdul’s home lived Nasruddin. He was witty, intelligent and helpful. Abdul went to him for help. Nasruddin offered to go to the palace to answer the Chief-minister’s questions. Abdul told him the whole thing. It was a frightening situation but Nisruddin seemed very confident and went off to the palace along with the donkey. Nasruddin never went anywhere without his donkey! The Sultan had many visitors that day. Nasruddin begged his pardon for bringing the donkey into the royal chamber. Then he told Sultan that he had come to answer the Chief-Minister’s questions. In a loud clear voice, he told the gathering that the centre of the earth is under his donkey’s right foreleg. And if the chief-minister had doubts, he could measure the Earth to find its centre. The Sultan laughed heartily. The chief-minister challenged him to answer the second question. Nasruddin told him that the number of stars in the sky is the number of hair on his donkey’s body. Everybody had a good laugh. The answer to the third question , he said, lay in his donkey’s tail. The Sultan ordered him to honour his words and give the poor man his deserved share of gold Read More

KEEPING HEALTHY The personal life and self-care choice we make greatly influence our health. Eating well, being active, feeling good about our self – these three keys elements work together to help us live a healthier, happier and active life. HYGIENE- THE KEY TO A HEALTHY YOU We might think habits are not important enough to pay much attention – but keeping clean is important if we want our body to be free of disease causing germs. Whether we have been playing, studying, working, shopping or visiting a friend, our hands will pick dirt from all around. If this gets into our food, it’s easy for germs to enter our body. Germs may also enter our body when someone sneezes or coughs near us. Covering our nose or mouth with a handkerchief or a tissue can prevent such infections from spreading. DENTAL WISE Our mouth is a battle ground!! Enemy is the plague that collects on our teeth. It destroys the outside of our teeth by sending out an army of acids. Then It sends poison to our gums. It’s easy to destroy this enemy with a simple weapon – our toothbrush. However, we must brush our teeth the right way and of course by avoiding sticky sweets and aerated drinks. We should have more natural – plague removers like carrots and apples!! PHYSICAL FACTS Physical activities are relaxing, strengthen our heart and lungs, increase energy levels, and help us maintain and achieve a healthy body weight – and improve outlook on life. We include some exercises in our daily routine like aerobic exercises, yoga, cycling or jogging. Even outdoor games like cricket, football, and badminton etc. provide good exercise to our body while we enjoy playing games. EAT HEALTHY TO STAY HEALTHY Eating well doesn’t mean giving up the food we love; it means choosing wisely from a variety of foods and choosing lower fat food more often. Vegetables are good for us. So can we stay healthy by eating only vegetables? No. we need to have a diet that contains all the nutrients in amounts required by our body. Check whether your food includes cereals, pulses, milk, milk products, vegetables, fruits, fats, sugars, eggs, meat and poultry. Read More

Waves came like a fair lady, in white saree, and folded hands to welcome the fans of ocean with a cold sprinkle and feet wash. The high landers shouted with ecstasy: the shore vendors sold crazily, one and all them thought alike the water is the life of earth. The ocean refreshes all. It helps the ‘haves’ and ‘have nots’. It knows no caste and creed. I love the water, waves and God. Read More

He had to reach the office at half past eight . Mr. Verma, his boss, was very strict . Poor Rajan ran around like a rocket . He cut his cheek while shaving . He was ready in ten minutes . While coming down the stairs, he tripped and fell . It was already ten- past eight . There was no time for breakfast or even a cup of tea . He grabbed his bag and ran out of his house . Rajan was running for his life . He reached the stop just on time but missed the bus by few seconds . He took a taxi instead . As Rajan reached the office he realized , he was just five minutes late . Mr . Verma shouldn't be very angry, he thought . He pushed the door of the office but it didn't open . He kept pushing with all his might when suddenly he realized the place was absolutely silent . Just then someone called from behind , " Hello Rajan!!! What are you doing here?". It was Mr Verma . Rajan was confused . His boss was standing there with his wife . He was dressed casually in his sportswear . " Coming to work, are you, Rajan, " asked Mr . Verma and the couple started laughing . " It's Saturday . The office is closed . HA....HA....HA....HA....HA....HA....HA....!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Read More

I always wonder, Why do the trees look pale And why is the air too polluted to inhale Why is the wildlife becoming extinct, Why are the people coughing, and why are their eyes burning Nature is giving us a warning Why is the atmosphere full of fumes, We don't even get fresh air in rooms Why is the wastage dumped in water. And all the dreams of fishermen shatter I think there is only one reason, and that is "POLLUTION" remember the old times. The trees were green, and the air was clean, The birds used to sing, and the people used to swing, there used to be a lot of rain, farmers got a good field of grain, there was no smoke and no fumes, and for us it was a great boon. Just sit down, and think for a while, how can you make Mother Nature smile? you will know, you've done a good deed, when caringly you plant a few seeds, you've helped her as a friend when Mother Nature was in most need, and that is why somebody has said, "A FRIEND IN NEED IS A FRIEND INDEED".
