Tollywood is the segment of Indian cinema that makes movies in the Telugu language and is based in Film Nagar, which is a neighborhood in Hyderabad. They have a Guinness World record for owning the largest film production facility in the world, Ramoji Film City. 

The first Telugu silent film was Bhishma Pratigna and was a silent film that was produced by Venkaiah Naidu. The first Telugu film with audible dialogue was Bhakta Prahlada and was produced by H.M. Reddy and he directed the first South Indian talkie, Kalidas. 

The first film Gharana Mogudu was directed by K. Raghavendra Rao and was the first Telugu film to gross over 10 crore at the box office. The film Bommarillu was released worldwide with 72 prints. Owing to its success, the number of reels grew up to about a hundred. The total revenue of this film was reported to be 25 crore, out of which 3.5 crore was from an overseas population. The fantasy film Magadheera rose to critical acclaim with a worldwide share of 78.1 crore. Baahubali: The beginning became the third highest grossing Indian film globally. 

The upcoming movies that are going to be released are Manmadhudu 2 which stars Nagarjuna Akkineni, Rakul Preet Singh, Vennela Kishore, Lakshmi and Rao Ramesh. Kathanam is also going to release soon. It stars Anasuya Bhardawaj, Vennela Kishore and Srinivas Avasarala. Ranarangam stars Sharawanand, Kajal Aggarwal and Kalyani Priyadarshan. Evaru stars Adivi Sesh,Regina Cassandra, Naveen Chandra and Muril Sharma. The film Gang Leader stars Nani in the lead role. Saaho stars prabhas, Shraddha Kapoor and Neil Nitin Mukesh and is slated to release on 30th August 2019. RRR is an upcoming Telugu language period action film that stars Alia Bhatt, N.T. Rama, Rama Rao Jr and Ram Charan. It will be released on 30th July 2020.
