Indian cinema is one of the largest film industries in film production and Bollywood which is the Hindi-language film industry makes a huge part of it. 

The most popular commercial genre in Bollywood is the masala film and there is action, comedy, romance, drama and melodrama in these genres. 

Dadasaheb Phadke’s Raja Harishchandra was the first feature film that was made in India. In the 1940’s and 1960’s some of the most critically acclaimed films have been made. Pyaasa, Kaagaz Ke Phool, Awaara, Shree 420 and Mother India are the examples of the films produced during this period. 

In the 1970’s, Bollywood was dominated by musical romance films and crime films. In the 90’s family-centered romantic musicals were very popular. In the 2000’s, Bollywood began to be recognized all over the world. 

The popular actors in Bollywood right now are Ranveer Singh, Ranbir Kapoor, Varun Dhawan, Rajkumar Rao, Sushant Singh Rajput. Salman Khan, Shah Rukh Khan, Aamir Khan, Amitabh Bachchan, Hrithik Roshan are the older actors who have still captured the market. Alia Bhatt, Deepika Padukone, Kangana Ranuat, Katrina Kaif, Anushka Sharma are the new age actress that are popular. 

In recent times, Bollywood has seen a shift in the form of female leads with movies like Queen, The Dirty Picture, Kahaani, Tanu Weds Manu and Veere Di wedding. 

Ranveer singh is going to be starring in the movie 83 which will release in 2020. Sadak 2, which will feature Alia Bhatt is going to launch in 2020 as well. Deepika Padukone’s movie Chhapaak, which will release in 2020 is a much-awaited film as well. Kangana Ranauts Panga is another one that you should look out for. Brahmastra and Shamshera are Ranbir Kapoor’s upcoming movies. 

Few sections of society want to see films that have a good story and something that they connect with and even learn for, which is why there is a shift in Bollywood and only masala and entertainment movies are not the only films that work currently.
