Its been more than four months since I m using this little piece from virgin. The experience has been quite good . I'll waste much time and list down all the pros and cons of v-kewl(or huawei - 5330)

First CONS.

  • camera is mediocre(picture quality is not very good), specially when not in sun light.

  • same is the case with external speaker.

  • doesn't support some codecs for .mp3 wrapper. So all the mp3 files might not work .

  • memory is only expandable upto 1 GB with micro SD card

  • no Java support

  • can't access the internal memory with the data cable, only

  • no bluetooth and Infra Red

  • I don't know if this is the problem with my handset or other's like this one . but most of the time when I record a video . no sound gets recorded . and some times it does . its like out of 5 tries 1 time u'll get the sound with video

now the PROS .

  • good battery life, last much longer than many other music phones

  • 262K colors with 176x144 TFT screen

  • can use as a modem n surf internet from your PC

  • use TATA indicom network . so signal strength is OK

  • 1.3 MP camera with audio-video recording

  • Radio, Music player and voice recorder

  • comes with head-set and data cable

  • GPRS enabled

  • has almost all the features of a 5000 Rs phone . n comes for 3500rs with connection.

so. rest you've got to decide . I would strongly suggest to buy this thing . coz I dont think any handset provides all these features for 3.5 K

Hi guys..I’ve bought this phone one year ago and am giving my honest opinion about this phone. As every coin has two sides, even this 3G phone like every other phone has two sides - positive n negative.

First

Of all, I m gonna describe the appearance of this phone. To be honest, this is the best looking phone in its range. The red strap on its black body is so impressive. Guys, please don`t judge the looks of this phone by seeing its photos in the internet..it looks like a boring dull phone. But 1ce u see it for real, I m sure u ll be impressed.

Also, the black part of the body is not just plastic like other phones, but is a combination of plastic n carbon which is pleasant to touch. But it also has its share of disadvantages...if u use the phone while sweating, your wet finger marks will be clearly seen on the carbon surface thou it can be wiped of easily with any cloth. The keypad is neither big nor small, but just the correct size. SMS-buffs ll love dis phone.

Coming to the level of ease in operating this phone, it has a a more than reasonable RAM. My phone hung only three times since the time I bought it. Unlike the other phones, one doesn`t need to take The battery of n keep it back again when the phone is hung. The phone can just be directly switched on. All the loaded programs open in a blink of an eye n run smoothly. Even the boot time of this phone is fast compared to other phones.

Now, the features. This carbon-box has stuff which can b compared to phones with double of its price. It comes loaded with regular stuff like 5 alarms, calendar, calculator, memo, stop watch, world clock, etc...One of my favourite feature is auto power off/on. As the name says, we can select a certain time such that the phone gets automatically switched off and we can set another time when it can switch on by itself. The web-browser is good.

Cumin to multimedia, dis phone is just awesome. Ny1 can rate dis aspect of the phone 1 1/10. It even beats the Sony Ericcson phones that are below 10K bucks. It officially supports micro SDs upto 1GB thou I use a 2GB card. The phone supports 3gp, MP4 video formats. The videos can b viewed in full screen. The video playback quality is decent. Cumin to audio, it supports MP3, AMR, AAC, MP4, MIDI n many more formats. The audio player cums with a lot of features including equalizer which has five different profiles. Unlike many other phones, all the features of the phone except making a call can b carried out even wen the mp3 is playing in the . THIS PHONE’S SPEAKER IS SIMPLY AWESOME. It is as powerful as the Nokia music express edition phones. It is far better than many Sony Ericcson Walkman phones.

A 1.3 megapixel camera is fitted into dis phone. The quality is BELOW AVERAGE under normal conditions. But still, it has a lot of features like nightmode, zoom, color-change, etc...The camera works reasonably good thou when there is enough light.

This phone has a 1000-capacity phone book. Each contact can`ve 3 numbers. So 3000nums can be saved. Also 1000 msgs can b saved in the inbox. One more awesome feature of this is that it can send a msg to 100 people at one click.

Suprisingly, this phone SUPPORTS 3G NETWORKING which is soon to b launched in India. AFTER READING ALL THE FEATURES ABOVE, ONE WOULD THINK THAT THE BATTERY LIFE OF THIS PHONE SUC*S. BUT THEY WOULD BE STUNNED AFTER USING THE PHONE. On average I use the audio player for one hour everyday n use the phone to talk n send messages for approx. 2.5 hours a day. Also sometimes I see videos for 30mins or so. This way, the battery lasts for two n half days or so which I think is seriously awesome.

But I think the virgin mobile guys need to think bout including bluetooth in dis phone. With that included, this would jus be the perfect phone for almost everyone, especially the youth, whose budget is less than 8000bux. One think I can say for sure it that this phone is something which you won`t repent for buying and it is a 200% value for money phone. THIS PHONE IS DA PERFECT HYBRID OF NOKIA N SONY ERICCSON. Thank u Mr. Richard Branson for givin us such a beautiful phone.GUYS..PLS DO POST YA COMMENTS N QUERIES N I ’LL TRY MY LEVEL BEST TA ANSWER ’EM...thank u...

Vkewl handset from Virgin mobile
Sep 11, 2008 08:18 PM10341 Views

Do u know about this cool handset from Virgin Mobile called VKewl. This is an incredible phone and believe me this is 100% value for your money!!!!!!!! This is a free for life set and has lifetime validity. The GPRS and browsing is free for life.

You can download as many mp3 and videos as possible for free for which other service providers will charge you. Also 10p credit to your account for each incoming call. I haven't recharged it within the 3 months as I just tell people to call me on that set. The features are: excellent sound quality comparable to Sony Ericsson, 1.3 Mega pixel camera, FM, color set with mp3 and 3gp support, cool games etc. The network is though Tata Indicom so no worries. Also Virgin to Virgin call rates is 10p only.If you have any concerns, you can contact me.

Pay for Incoming or get Paid for Incoming
May 15, 2008 11:21 AM7499 Views

Think out of box, Think Hatke... Jab Life De Jhatke, Soch Thoda Hatke! Mumbai, March 2 Sir Richard Branson on Sunday launched the Virgin Mobile brand in India through a franchise arrangement with Tata Teleservices. Remember the days when we used to pay for incoming calls on our mobiles.

Mobile telephony has taken a complete U turn now. And guess what we got paid for receiving incoming calls. That you all are very well aware of thanks to the ostentatious advertisements by Virgin.

I am using Virgin Mobile Connection for past 40 days or so. Coming straight to the point what are the advantages and disadvantages of this service.

The Goods:- Virgin people pay 1 paissa for every 6 seconds of incoming from any network be it Mobile or Landline or WLL or any XYZ. ISD, STD or Local, the same rule is applicable for all. Those who are getting more incoming calls they can go with this.As they have to recharge with only Validity coupons and rest of the talk time comes when they receive the calls. Network connectivity is as good as Tata Indicom as it is using the same Tata Network. Mobile handsets are all good except the fact that none is bluetooth enabled. Vkewl which is infact Huawei C5330 is a real good handset with excellent value for money proposition. It has 1.3 MP camera, MP3, FM, et al..all except Bluetooth. Vbling also looks great with mirror finish. Finally the best thing is the cool advertisements making inroads into our TV sets. They are just mind boggling.

Anyways, we are talking about services here not advertisements. But Traffic Police ad will remain in memory of Indian masses for long period. The Bads:- SMS Pack....... RS 26 ..sms local r @ 20p for 30dys Rs 25 Recharge talktime say its Rs21 so wat u get @ Rs 51 , local sms 105 Airtel Rs 51 ...500local sms for 30days Tata Rs 30 ....1000local sms for 30days STD Pack...... Rs. 59..STD@re 1 in Virgin with 0/- talktime Rs 71..STD@re 1 in Airtel with 30/- talk time STD Rates without STD Pack Rs. 2.40....S*cks big time; One of the highest in the country Local Call Charges for first 2 minutes For the first 2 minutes in a day the local call charges are re 1 after that it is re 0.50/- minute. CONCLUSION Virgin really is okayish ....except you are a call receiver (I got a maximum of Rs. 16.05 in a day; not bad)..

But still kudos to the innovative incoming paying scheme as well as bringing class advertisements for us. Seriously I don't see any reason switching to Virgin except if you are in heavy call receiving business. Even for girlfriend/boyfriend kinda setup there are better schemes as some providers do provide free calling in their own networks.

I brought my vKewl Virgin Mobile handset just two days back. I was really excited when I brought this mobile because it has got some awesome features. Let me begin with the Virgin Mobile India first.

VMI - Virgin Mobile India

*Pros

  1. VMI is giving away 1p for every 6 secs of incoming call, that is what they call 10p for 1min call.

  2. Tariff is really good.  You can make calls to Landline phones also for just 50p/min.

  3. You can browse internet for FREE both in the handset using WAP ( You can browse yahoo mail, gmail, yahoo messenger etc) and also by connecting it to your PC/Laptop. Presently ( 3rd May 2008) they are not charging anything for browsing internet. You can connect by using the dialup number #777, Username and password as internet. Seems like they are in the phase of preparing the tariff. So, they may charge for that in the soon future. However, for browsing vBytes you will be charged Rs.5/day.

  4. The customer care service is awesome unlike the people in Tata indicom/Vodafone.

  5. The network is same as that of Tata Indicom. So, I am expecting a good signal all over India. Because previously I used tata indicom which had signal even in the train when I traveled long journeys.

*Cons

*1. The SMS offer they provided is not that great. You have to pay Rs.26/month and you will be charged 20p/sms. But in tataindicom you get 1000SMS/Rs.30. I think these people got to make a better SMS plan. Other wise the youth wont get attracted to it.

  1. For callertunes, you have to compulsory dail their Voice Portal which will charge you Rs.6/min. But for other carriers, you can just send sms by selecting your choice from the internet.

That's Folks about Virgin Mobile India

*vKewl

Pros

*1. The handset is looking great man!. You will feel it like Sony Erricsson's W200i when you look at it. Espescially the orange backlight and the red lining around the fone... vkewl...

  1. The Sound when playing mp3 files is awesome man..!!! The nokia will never come in competition with this. The sound of SE's Walkman series Phones.

  2. The software installed in the phone is same as like LG phones. You can easily use it.

  3. You can set mp3 ringtones for each contact.

  4. You got a 1.3 MP cam.. hurray... !!!

  5. You can view 3gpp content.

  6. Record videos.

  7. The Auto Tuner will Automatically tune the FM channels for you and you can listen them through the speaker.

  8. 1GB Mirco SD card support. Data cable support. Don't need any sync software. Use it like a USB Flash drive.

  9. Modem to connect to internet.

  10. Large phone book.

Wat else you need?? It;s nothing more than a Nokia N70 mobile. The difference is that nokia had a 2 Megapixel cam with a large screen.

*Cons

  1. The camera pictures are really dull when there is no light. LIke it is almost useless to take pictures when there is no heavy light. The pictures are really dark. but the resolution is good.

  2. The battery backup is really low when playing mp3 in speaker and browsing internet in the mobile. That sucls..!!!

  3. The screen is really small, you cant use it for looking photos or movies.

That's all folks about vKewl

Totally.... its a value for money mobile. You can definitely prefer buying it.

Initially you have to buy

  1. Phone - Rs. 4000

  2. Sim card - Rs. 100

  3. Recharge for 180 days validity with Rs.400 Talk time and 99 Local SMS - Rs. 500

  4. 1 GB Micro SD card - Rs. 400

Total - Rs. 5000/-

Have fun with this vKewl

One of the best VFM handset.
Apr 20, 2008 11:06 PM6589 Views

Hi friends,

I bought the vKewl from Virgin in the first week of its lunch in India at a price of Rs4000.

Its a huawei C5330, which is also available with TaTa Indicom with its original name at a price lower by 450bucks.

I was just planning for a MP3 player after I lost my SE W700i, so visited the Univelcell in Chennai.

Suddenly I saw this set, which looked awesome.

and immediately my plan changed and I was having this bar model in my hand.

As we all know, its a CDMA technology phone and you have to buy a Virgin connection with it as well.

But good thing is its having the SIM slot and with minor software modification, it can be used for any other service provider.

Specifications:

  1. bar model( slick and the combination of  black and red looks awesome.)Design you may find copied from SE.

  2. 1.3 megapixel camera( picture quality is very good if you see the price.)( nevermind, SE w200i comes with VGA camera at 4500.)

3.wap internet browser(V-bytes)(best thing.will tell you later why.:)

4.mp3 player(supports mp3 and 3gp only)

  1. expandible memory upto 1 gb, micro SD.

  2. dedicated music buttons

  3. FM

  4. Voice recording

  5. datacable and support CD.

Its almost 1.5 months I has been using it and quite happy with my wise descision.

you must have heard about the much hyped'get paid for incoming calls'.

yes, thast true, I get 10paise for each minute of incoming calls.:)

best thing I will tell you now is the wap service.the interenet service.

Its free.ya.true.its free.

and seeing the relatively low traffic in virgin its fast.

I have downloaded lots of songs fron net absolutely free.

they will charge only if you use it as a modem for your system.

thats also reasonable at 5rs per day compared to 20rs per day for airtel.

but it may not be a great experience for seeing clips or photos b'cos the screen size is very small.

Music quality is ok and compared to nokia, its fast in reading memory cards.

point to note that Virgin mobile is selling the same model in US and UK.

Speaker quality is also ok but eats up power very soon.

so, ovelall, at 4000 rs, its the best set available in market.I bet.:)
