Great Android phone
Apr 30, 2012 12:32 PM 1735 Views

It's surprising that no one has reviewed this phone till now on Mouthshut!

That's because this phone is a worthy addition to the Android stable, and has better features than many other expensive models.

It is a capacitive touch phone with a 3.2" touch-screen which is very responsive. It is loaded with Android v. 2.2(Froyo). It is a 3G phone with A-GPS.

It has a 2MP camera which is barely adequate. If you are buying it for the camera, this is not the phone for you.

The build quality is good, it has a metal back which makes the phone rather heavy to hold.

The only problem is that the SMSs accumulate in the phone's memory. There is no way to move them to the micro SD card! This is a limitation of the Android operating system, not the phone! So one has to periodically delete SMSs to make space for new apps.

The apps are not all possible to load on the SD card, as I had assumed. Some of the apps can be moved by you manually, but others cannot be moved. This places a limit on the number and size of apps one can install.

Another limitation is that larger apps like the NSE app cannot be run on this phone. This was a disappointment to me.

Many times, some apps which have been installed have to be re-installed, for reasons I could not find out!

The 3G is quite OK, the speed depends on the access provider, really. The A-GPS is quite responsive, although for a dry start(starting without your initial location known to the phone) it takes a while for the GPS to locate the position. It is better to stand in an open area for this.

It has Wifi, too, but I did not use this feature, so I cannot comment on this.

Music and radio: The radio is quite decent. It comes with a nice pair of in-ear headphones, which are quite comfortable. Music playback is good, the loudspeaker is OK.

The following is unrelated to the phone:

I found the phone a bit on the heavier side, being used to candybar phones. The phone kept falling out of my shirt pocket quite a few times while bending down. Also, answering the phone while eating was a pain, as one needs both hands for this(to draw it out of its cover, and swipe the screen).

One fine day, I dropped the phone from my hand. It broke the glass as well as the LCD screen behind the glass. I took it to the authorised service centre just opposite Portugese Chuch. They told me it would take Rs 3250/- and four weeks to repair. This was clearly not worth it as a new piece was now costing around Rs 4500/-.

So that was the end of my Android adventure! I am looking for a 3G candybar now.
