An Ultimate problem free phone by SE
Aug 19, 2008 01:21 PM1898 Views

I had bought this phone @ Rs 7990/- @ sonyworld. on recomendation by one of my best friend,

initially I was using one of Nokia starting models 3310 & I was in impression nothing can be as rigid & strong as that.

but I was wrong, this is a true value phone & it very much payed me back.

I never had any probelm with this phone even after my maximum rough use.

my daughter has dropped this phone from 1st floor quite a few time & even after breaking into peices, which I rejoined & started working as before without problem.

now it looks wornout like an oldest model phone but but. I love it's performance

thats why even now  today am not ready to change it.

PC communication is very very easy.

I can browse my mobile on my laptop

add wallpapers download photos, add any mid files as ringtones, download themes.

sound clarity is appreciable.

please dont compare with recent mobile phones.

I am able to transfer all my  address book data to my laptop & restore back. a beautifull feature indeed.

Voice recording feature & its quality is also too good.

but I had a very bad experience with SE service centre.

they act as though they are doing a charity to thier customers.

leave them.  aside

Really Thank You SONY ERICSSON

Good till some days back!!!!

Hi all

I bought this Sony Ericsson T630 on Feb 25th 2005. Bought it for 9000 with bill and all included. Never had any problems with it so far, except a few which are common with any mobile. Will be discussing all points about it in detail.

Pros:

1) The looks are very good. Mobiles come and go in different designs, but this is one of the best. So many times I have seen people ask me whether this is a video-cam mobile. I tell them it isn't. They think I'm pulling their legs.

2) Best mobile of it's time. Even today, if you want a phone with Bluetooth as well as IR, you would have to shell out atleast 10K. If this model is available, you won't get another with a lesser cost.

3) Sound recording is better than the competition. So are the themes. They look very good in this phone.

4) Once you get used to this mobile, you'll struggle to get used to another.

5) I have dropped it many times. Still goes on and on.

Cons:

1) Resale value is very low, you can as well throw away the phone. The T610 was a resounding success. But T630 failed to capitalise on its popularity.

2) 2MB of memory is very poor.

3) I had a problem with charging. It was the same trouble experienced by another reviewer for this very product called "sumebhattach". I'm pasting that problem since it was exactly the same.

Charging is a big problem. Initially it would get charged when switched off. Then, when off, the jack which is inserted into the phone had to be pushed up or pulled down to get the correct charging position. At that time, there were no hassles in charging it when switched on. Now, even when on, I still have to fight a tug of war with the jack to get the correct position (Quoted from review by sumebhattach)

4) After the first few months of using it, the 3, 6, 9 and spacebar keys had a slight problem. Would stop working in turns occasionally!!

5) Support provided by Sony Ericsson is pathetic!! When I had this problem with 3, 6, 9 etc, I went to dealer. Even though piece was in warranty, the bugger said the bill I produced was not sufficient. So I had to pay for the repair. And I feel he did NOTHING, since the very next day, the problem was still there. Since I live a busy life (night shifts), I adjusted to the problem!! But it's very bad work by SE personnel.

6) The following incident is the saddest: the death of the phone.

Recently there were heavy rains in Chennai. Though protected by raincoat, my mobile still got wet. And water got into the display.

Gave it for servicing, he serviced it and says they cleaned the phone, but they need to replace the display.

Display is not available in any showroom at Chennai. He needs to contact the Store at Delhi. It will take two weeks and another 2000 rs!! (Note: Resale value is probably much lesser).

So I brought the phone back home.

Now all my numbers / contacts etc are stored in phone memory!! No way I can access that information!!

I'd like to give this advice to all and sundry:

1) Please be careful with the phone. Do not store all your contacts / important messages in the phone. You never know.

2) Before spares become totally unavailable, try to sell the phone and go for something which has available spares. Because I cannot sell mine now.

The demise of the phone has left me real sad, and presently I am using a Nokia 3315 2nd hand. Probably after a few months I'll go for a more robust model, either a Nokia 6600 or a 6670.

Sony Ericsson you definitely are the best, but if you don't set your service centres / customer support proper, you'll be beaten out of the Indian market.

Thanks for this wonderful phone, which I'll retain forever (since nobody is buying it).

Regards,

Jacob.

Slim and trendy T630

Hi!,i've been using this phone for around 3 years now,i bought this phone in the early days of it's release..i am pretty much satisfied with the phone I think the current price of this phone is around 7K+ or even cheaper(when I bought the phone was around 10K),it's not the best phone with that price tag today.features,If people are looking to buy this phone then you might wanna take a look at these problems and features in the phone: 1.Joy Stick: firstly this phone has a trendy joystick for navigation, which will work well for around a year and a half.if you are a mobile freek who messages a lot and uses the phone roughly then this is not a phone for you.after the joystick gets screwed up,you'll tend to find the navugation immpossible. but the menu can be accessed using the corresponding number...like 5 for messages after you enter the main menu, and 8 for the phone book, etc.but the joy stick is sure to get screwed up if you drop the phone or if water(moisture) seeps into the phone via the joystick openin.. 2.Camera: the camera put into this phone is a QVGA camera, which can take shots up to a resolution of 640x480 pixels.the camera is better than a few nokia phones in that range but if you are looking for a TRUE DIGITAL CAMERA,then this is not the phone for you.The camera fails to maintain clarity at low luminated places even after using the night mode.Effects can be added like:B/w(black and white),negative,sepia.. but the camera is ok for taking pictures of objects at a short distance.. 3.memory: it has around 2.2MB of shared memory where you can store pictures and ring tones..can accomodate around 80 messages in the inbox..has 512 phone book entry capacity.the phone book is more organised than in other brands like nokia. 4.Display:Size: Colors: 65,536 (16-bit),128 x 160 pixels,LCD TFT display has absolutely no problems when in the shade or under the sun, this is an upgrade to the LCD display of T610..the display is crispy and good. 5.Extra features or tools:has Buetooth : Supported Profiles: HSP, HFP, DUN, OPP, FTP, BIP, Sync version 1.0b,has IR and can be connected to the computer via a data cable..these features give more liveliness to the phone.. you can use your hands free to call contacts without manual dialing,(voice commands),picture id,personal ringtones and pictures for contacts, connecting to the WAP using it's WAP browser, trust me...the Browser is better than any other browser of any phone of any brand in it's class..JAVA J2ME applications and games can be made to on this phone,MMS,has built in SMS counter, and call duration counter..cost calculator, has a organiser, voice recorder, picture editor, calculator and alarm which will ring even when the phone is switched off,......ETC if you are lookin for loads of features then this is the phone for you.. apart from the above mentions problems, the phone is great value for money... 6.battery life:the phone's battery has Talk: 14.00 hours (840 minutes) Standby: 315 hours (13.1 days) BOTTOM lINE a good value for money.. and i'll gaurantee u that i'll never get any virus attacks..!!

I bought this phone in December 2005. Well .. here's my experience:

1) The picture & camera quality was initially good but has depricated with time.

2) Charging is a big problem. Initially it would get charged when switched off. Then, when off, the jack which is inserted into the phone had to be pushed up or pulled down to get the correct charging position. At that time, there were no hassles in charging it when switched on. Now, even when on, I still have to fight a tug of war with the jack to get the correct position. The problem is worsening with time. When I went to my nearest mobile phone dealer, he seemed to know about the problem indicating that the problem is common.

3) The battery life is very low - at least compared to my other phone - the Samsung S 628 - or such - the original blue phone.

But there are some good features too:

1) The phone's very sturdy.

2) Sound quality's very good - even better than Nokia.

3) It's stylish and good to look at without being too big.

4) The bluetooth's good.

I would not suggest anyone buy it now, especially since so many new models with newer features have come from various companies.

A pyramid in true sense
Aug 10, 2006 12:41 PM1905 Views

Hi All,

I have been using this phone for the past 1.3 years and I am extremely satisfied with my phone. This was my first investment in my first salary and I have a grt deal of attachement to it. The display is crisp and comparable to high end nokia models. I braved critics to go against nokia models and bought this one, this has been a perfect companion, The battery lasts for 2 days under normal talking conditions, the camera function though not superb comes handy at places(provided u keep ur lens clean). The best thing abt this is the audio/voice clarity and exceptional signal reception... hats off SE. This is the only model of its class having Cam, IR, Bluetooth and GPRS. and thats the only reason I still stick on to this even after so many models coming up.. this mobile stood the sands of tech revolution in mobiles and hence a PYRAMID in true sense... it will take another year or 6+months to consider changing my mobile.. A cute first mobile to own.. though its not available now in indian market

Sony T630 - good features but not durable.
Jul 28, 2006 07:48 PM1846 Views

I bought Sony Ericsson T630 in December 2005 and being a true user of other popular brand handset, I knew it was not going to be easy to get accustomed with Sony. But gradually as I started using the product I discovered a lot of things about the set which were actually very good and wasn't aware of while buying the set. But as they nothing in this world is best and everything has its own positive and negative features, so this set also has few of both.

I will start with the positives first, the handset has I must say an enormously superior sound quality for which SONY products are famous worldwide. This is the USP of the product and is unmatchable with any other existing brand. The features available with such a low price are also great. Generally in the market one can't find handsets with so many features at this low cost. But at the same time the handset is not user-friendly. For a first timer using this set would be like a real puzzle to solve which actually leaves its great features of not much use. Unless one has really used mobile for quite a few years I would advise should not go for this one. For a simple thing like sending messages it took me lot of days to figure out from where you can feed in the contact numbers to send SMS. The phone memory is only source available to you for active usage. It though has option wherein you can select entries from SIM but for that you have to go through certain settings which is again dificult to figure out. That leaves us with no other option but to save all the numbers in the handset for usage which would prove very risky in the event of changing your handset because in that case all the numbers would then have to be transfered from phone memory to SIM ot to the new handset.

The set has a nice body, shape which makes it easy to handle and carry but at the same time doesn't have a long battery life.

I would therefore not recommend this handset for beginners at all. People with some years experience of using mobile can go for it and use it for 6-8 months depending upon their liking. This is one set which you can't think of having for a long term.

I got the sony ericsson T630 around 2 years back and it was my first cell phone. I had done a lot of research on the internet, around two months to be precise. Back then nokia was the order of the day and since I didnt own a mobile I was just doing some research on which nokia model to buy, and I happened to stumble on a review for T630. I couldn't imagine a model which would provide so many features Blutooth, Infrared, camera all rolled into one. I was still apprehensive since sony ericsson in indian market for cell phones was quite unknown and I was surprised at the fact that people didnt know much about sony ericsson and planned to go the "safe" way and use nokia. After still further research I had found my first phone, and I was glad I did. I got it for around Rs. 13,000 (2 years back). the looks simply bowled me. A few highlights of this phone that I founf in my two years of usage are:

  1. The Display is definitely the USP of this model. No Nokia model in this price range can match the display, and sony ericsson couldnt improve it in later models like the k750i and w800. The screens of these models are still outdone by my T630.

  2. Bluetooth for a phone in this price range is a boon. Around two years back Bluetooth was available in high ended models only. Works with any other device. Also lets not forget the Infrared. you can use anyone for data transfer.

  3. Ployphonic ringtones.

  4. Sound recorder.

  5. Phone book to hold around 500 numbers, 3 per contact (home, office, mobile).

  6. Even when there is hardly any network , I have always found that I can hear the person at the opposite end clearly, though my voice may crack.

  7. The battery life is average.

  8. The camera is average, but not too bad.

  9. music DJ, where you can compose your own polyphonic ringtones.

  10. Picture DJ, to modify pictures (basic functionss like zoom, brightness etc..).

  11. Computer connectivity where you can download and use themes, wallpapers(man!! do they look good or what), ringtones, games.

  12. reminder, alarm, calculator.

  13. ease of use. Like for E.g while in nokia you have to change a profile to make it silent, sony ericsson provides these features (bluetooth on/off, Ir on/off, silent on/off) on the main screen itself, just at the touch of a button!!!!

Also there were some disadvantages

  1. the memory available is around 2mb, which is quite less given the funtionalities mobiles have these days.

  2. Another problem (which I guess is with all the sony ericsson models) is that , the phone cannot be heard in crowded places, like the bus depot or the railway station, and since the vibrator ia also average, you are most likeley to miss a call. The solution I found is to modify a ringtone on your computer and increase the pitch and then use it. This does not work all the time but is a pretty good solution.

  3. also the joystick kind of stops responding after usage of about a year or so and you have to press it really hard (its mostly because of the dust accumalation). Mine started working again automatically..:)

  4. lack of FM or music support, which I guess is more of a norm these days.

To conclude I would recommend this phone to anyone who wants a decent entry level phone. you will definitely get bowled over its display. and with almost all of the combined features that you can in entry level phones these days its a good buy.

CLASSIC BLACK BEAUTY
Apr 26, 2006 11:38 PM2048 Views

I got my first cellphone ''SONY ERICSSON T630''. I selected this phone as it had the computer connectivity and the display which is the highest in that range 480x640 pixels and the looks are Awesome .Price was affordable when I bought it for around Rs 7500 + the bluetooth dongle which varies.i got it for Rs 600.

Coming to the technical part, this phone has amazing features,

1>Display is highest having 65000 colours with max resolution of 480x640 pixels no mobile can match this resolution, size of the display screen is large campared to nokia or samsung.

2>It has polyphonic ringtones, company givens are ok sort. But folks it has the computer connectivity.Dont forget.Download watever u want from internet send it phone...u got it all.Themes,Ringtones,wallpapers..etc.

There is a website for these downloads https://myt630.com,

u find everything here for almost all sony ericsson phones.

3>The best feature is the Bluetooth wireless connection. With this one u connect ur T630 to any other phone having the same feature, activate it,ur done!!!! transfer pics, polyphonic RTs and other things which are compatable with this phone.

4>When u have system connectivity and with GPRS phone feature ,u can browse the internet using phone on ur computer. But this is quite slow connection and depends on the GSM connection ex: hutch,BSNL etc..

With this connection u can check mails using the wap feature on the phone itself, this is only possible for wap enabled websites and not a problem for yahoomail, google search etc as these are wap enabled websites.

5>the connection setup is also easy, not a problem once when u get used to it.

6>It has an large phonebook of 500 + 200(varies from sim to sim) which amounts to 700+.Other than that it has voice command options, personal ringtones ie assigning RTs for particular numbers,u can also assign contact photos..,

7>Its has a camera just to take pictures of contacts where u can surely distinguish faces. The Camera is fairly good when sufficient amount of light especially sunlight is present. There are 3 options for the size of the photo, option for Night photo etc...

The camera is not a megapixel camera

8>It also has Ir connectivity which works well only with sony ericsson sets.

9>But,Software does not respond quickly .Memory too less. Around 2 MB.This is the only thing I did not like in this.Memory is very low for anybody who frequently changes RTs and themes, takes pics etc...

If the company had provided an option for expandable memory as that in later sets with fast Operating system, otherwise the Phone is very good.

This is a good investment for starters out there...if the set is still available.......

Superb
Nov 29, 2005 11:29 PM2094 Views

This is a superb phone. The battery life, voice quality, and ease of use is exceptional.

I've had the phone since it was launched in India, and therefore have used it for almost 2 years.

Battery life: 3 to 4 days. I charge it only when the indicator turns red. Compared to other phones (which tell lies about the charge remaining), this phone is very truthful. When it turns red, you have around 30 minutes of talk time remaining. My other phones - Motorola, Alcatel, Nokia - were all very optimistic about their prospects, and would die in the middle of a conversation.

Software: while the Sony Ericsson software provided with the phone is very good - if you use it properly, you can avoid buying a PDA - you have to get FMA (Float's Mobile Agent). This is free, open source software which lets you do amazing things with your phone. For example, if you have Bluetooth, you can use FMA to control Powerpoint presentations using the joystick on this phone. Try that with your Nokia!

Voice quality: I regularly have longconference calls with people around the world, and I've never had a problem being understood. Given that this is also a function of the network (Airtel, in my case), I used to struggle with Alcatel/Nokia/Motorola etc.

Bluetooth: has worked with every device I've thrown at this phone ... PDAs, laptops, other phones, headsets ...

The user interface is pretty good ... the only quibble I have is over the search function. This could be smoother.

Now that the price is less than 7k, it's a steal.

Nov 22, 2005 04:54 PM2178 Views

I've owned my Sony Erricson T630 phone for almost 8 months now. I bought it for around 8000 rupees in Bangalore.

Likes

  • Looks cool

  • Voice quality is very good

  • Signal reception is almost as good as Nokia and far better than Samsung and LG phones

  • Battery life: I am a moderate user and easily get upto 2-3 days on a single charge

Things I do not like about the phone

  • It's camera is poor and the pictures are really bad if the lighting is not good.

  • The menu navigation system is not as intuitive as that of the Nokia phones.

  • Has a tendency to get scratched excessively

  • No hands free offered with the phone. I bought a duplicate one for 50 rupees, but seriously, no phone should be sold without one

Overall, I'm reasonably satisfied with the phone. But, when I go looking for my next phone, I'll probably head to the Nokia booth.

Looks good but cam is poor
Nov 12, 2005 10:43 AM1789 Views

I bought it specially for bluetooth functionality as I use mobile connectivity frequently.

Really it is cheapest in market which offers bluetooth but the disappointing fact is that its cam is not so worthy. Though I knew it in the starting because even its not a VGA camera, but if you transfer the picture from cell to computer then it looks very blurred. It would have been better if in place of cam, FM radio would have been there. Sound quality is good. Also comes the questions how useful is the shared 2 MB memory. In my view its enough for storing 30 -40 pics and few ringtones.

What makes sony fones a bad storage device is unavailabilty of memory card slot.

They support only memory stics(as far I know) which are very costly. So if it should contain more memory then it could be used as data device also, which is very useful these days. Looks are good, much look likes K750.

Good phone but only two Cons.
Oct 07, 2005 03:09 PM2333 Views

Sony Ericsson T630 is really very nice phone. particularly Black model.

It has Blue tooth & IR.

but I found one bug rather incontinent function. The MORE button (top on Right hand) this button have first function called ' Turn on Silent'which should be placed on second row. reason is when your call is finished you have to press this same button as CANCEL function. So you have to press this cancel button only once. if you press this twice then your mobile turn on silent !!!. you won't be able to listen any ring tone alert unless you have enabled Vibrating alert.!!! and in normal practice this button we are using the most... We have to use CANCEL button lots of time...but you have to be very careful to press this button only one time.. which is really inconveniency...

and the other missing function is True Tones (Sing Tones) which is really necessary these days....

This is a Great phone but... you have to check above particular thing.... if you are feeling comfortable then go for it.....

It's not a bad one

I bought Sony Ericcson T630 six months back. So far, I haven't faced any problem except that it hangs some times when we are playing games especially v-rally 2. It is very delicate . Screen is very much prone to scratches. If u are rough handling person, then T630 will not be suitable for u. It doesn't have dekstop speaker. I bought it without knowing that. I am suffering now without speaker. Please have these points in mind if u have planned to buy T630. As far as look is concerned T610 is better than T630. T610 has metal buttons whereas T630 has plastic buttons.

I afraid that if we use the joystick continuously, it may fail at some point of time.

It is having MP3 Player. We can record the conversation of the calls. When a call comes, very low tone ring will come first only after that ring tone alert will happen. So, if we get some missed calls (intentional missed calls), we will not hear the ring tone. So, We may notice the missed calls if the mobile is kpt somewhere away from us.

Good phone till you face a problem
Jun 04, 2005 10:06 PM2485 Views

I bought the liquid black SE T630 in December 2004. Main reason for going for this is the looks. The first thing that hit me after buying it is that it is not a user friendly phone and can be quite a pain to use.

All was fine till last month when without any reason, the display started to blacken. Initially it was a dot on the screen but now it is quite large. I take the phone to the local sony erricson service and they have issues about replacing it. They admit that this is a problem with the display and they have been seeing many cases like this but I have no clue why they won't replace it. Currently they are buying time saying there are no spares. I'm sure they will eventually service it for free.

Having said that, I just wanted to caution all T630 aspirants that all is not well with the phone. The display is an issue so be aware.

T 630 old but still best in the class
Apr 20, 2005 05:15 PM2172 Views

T 630 is best phone in its class. Looks good with almost each and every functionality one can dream of in this price.

Unlike nokia T630 gives a better display of 65k and also sony ericsson has modified their previous model of T610 by changing its display to tft screen which was not in T610 so it gives better display.

T610 is loaded with bluetooth, infrared and also comaptible with nokia products. its comes in the range of rs 7700. if someone can think beyond nokia with a little budget of 8k then go for it.if someone is not looking particularly for camera phone this is the best option.

It is equiped with integrated camera but its not good but considering the price of the device one can ignore this drawback. The main drawback is very less memory which can't be extended. It has a big screen with good display, polyphonic sound better display then its higher models of sony ericsson. Its only a bit oudated but surely a good purchase!

Mess wid the Best n Die Like the Rest
Mar 16, 2005 09:50 PM3098 Views

I bought my Liquid Black T630 just 2 weeks ago and I definitely agree that the fone is awesome. This waz my dream fone while I bought my T230, 9 months back. That time it costed 18000 INR but I bought my mobile for 9000 INR wid bill. For the features this fone has got, u definitely ll have no intention to take the hand off the fone.

About the looks, this fone has got one of the best looks I ve ever seen, the closest being K700i. Most of the Nokias have got the same borin look.

Then the keypad, from the looks the keypad looks as if tiz cramped but after using the fone for more than 2 weeks I can definitely conclude, the keys are quite easy to press, and joystick feedback is very much user friendly. The keys are all curved with a small bulge at the top n so it is very much ergonomic.

Then the display, u ve got a 128 x 160 screen at ur disposal, wat else do u need? In that resolution u can use 128 x 128 4 ur wallpaper n remaining the fone uses it for softkey description n status bar. This is quite large comparing to the series 40 nokias which use 128 x 128 screen for doing all the three. So the display is not at all cramped. Also the screen can display 65536 colors n hence the colors are all very much vibrant n bright.

Besides the screen is TFT n in sunlight u get good visibilty. The colors do not fade much in sunlight. I ve compared mine n my classmate's T610 n have definitely noticed the difference. There s also a good protector screen over the display. Unlike the T610 (which I think is glass), T630's protector screen is some fibre like tat of Nokia series 60 fones which ll not get scratched tat much easily on normal usage. Though I think scratches r possible by dropping the fone (no idea). My friend's T610 got scratches by simply keeping in his pocket.

Then the camera, Come on guyz tiz a 9000 bucks fone, u can't get everythin 4 tat. The viewfinder shows full 128 x 160 n so u get a good large glimpse yet the camera quality s just satisfactory bcoz it is just a CIF camera. But tiz k.

Then Connectivity Options like BLUETOOTH, IR, DATA CABLE, WAP, GPRS,etc. wat else do u need?

The fone can also be customized wid themes. Not like the Nokias or Motorolas which have just predifned color styles, here u r the artist and the fone is the canvas. Although to do that u need software. These themes can easily be created by the SE software or even using softwares like THEME CREATOR PRO 3G. Besides there r millions of themes available all over the internet. Themes of T610 are compatible wid this fone too.

There are also many interesting features like posting notes on the screen, which I mainly use it 2 remind me of somethin in the mornin b4 leaving 2 college.

The message memory is just 60. The fone memory is just around 2.2 MB which is the main drawback. But u can efficiently use it bcoz u have lot of connectivity options n so u can keep transferring the filez to ur system r ur frenz fone with a larger memory.

About the signal reception it is comparable to most good quality fones like 3310. The voice reception is also very clear. The ringtones have good melody n loudness but not much bass. The fone cant play mp3 or wav files but can play amr files which is quite sufficient if u ask me.

If u c someone havin this fone just see this fone in the nite in a dark room or in a dark street, then u ll c how gorgeous the fone looks. Only similar SE models like K700i hav got that look.

To list out the main features, here it goes

128 X 160 TFT COLOR DISPLAY

INTEGRATED CIF CAMERA

32 TONE POLYPHONIC CAPABLE

CUSTOMIZABLE THEMES

SOUND RECORDER

PICTURE EDITOR

MUSIC DJ MIDI COMPOSER

510 MEMORY PHONEBOOK

INSTANT MESSAGING

EMAIL

MMS

MOPHUN AND JAVA GAMES/APPS SUPPORT

CONNECTIVITY OPTIONS - USB CABLE, BLUETOOTH, IR, GPRS

WAP 2.0 SUPPORT

ORGANIZER TOOLS - CALENDAR, TIMER, STOPWATCH, ALARM, REMINDERS, NOTES, CODE MEMOS

I ve found so far no problems but occasionaly the fone may tend 2 hang. This happens when u switch on the fone n the fone s searching 4 the network. This s the case wid most fones. I ve never switched off the fone even once due to hanging problems. Try to keep atleast 200 - 250 kb free memory to increase the menu speed.

So if u want a cheap camera fone wid a decent display u can definitley go 4 this baby. Tats all 2 tell.

Its gonna blast

Any more features and this phone will surely BLAST... Its jam packed with stuff.

Vivid screen and killing looks, I think this phone is juss missing a TV and a microwave :).....Got it a few days back; tried connecting to internet thru its AC97 modem and IrDA port.. woosh.. it went in first go @ 115000 baud. Signal Strength/Call Quality is ten out of ten, I presume it will work in a bunker at Timbaktu too..

Call recording, joystick, magic word, Intelligent options to customize...Sony Ericsson T637 ruleZ! only con is its camera, even if I call it mediocre it would be flattering.. but then I hear my conscience say * dude! you are paying for phone not a camera* .. Overall This Deal is a Steal

PS: DON'T TRY THIS AT HOME : you can dive in pool with this phone in pocket.. it gets wet doesn't work for two whole days screen flickers if you try to turn in on ! and Magic! it dries and comes back to life, with an improved response time.

The only 1 in it's class

Well this is my first phone and my latest acquisition .. though I might have not owned a nokia I am aware of all the hype ( and its true ) of the stability of nokia handsets .. but I like things a bit classy , so I went ahead and bought a Sony Ericsson t630 . Many of my friends had advised me against this and would have me stick to the trusted nokia 's ... Well I'm glad I did wait!

Well , kind of ... yes , the battery life is nothing special , even with minimal use of games and bluetooth / IR . In fact with just about 5 mins of playin Vrally 2 a racing game supplied on the set .. the battery falls significantly enough to draw the users attention to it .. and alas .. there 's no Fm and also there is no loud speaker mode is provided .. something dat's provided for in my dad's insipid looking nokia 2300 ...........

But wat the heck ... who cares about these minor irritants when we have a winner on our hands .. oh it looks wonderful .. u want to hold one in ur hand ( and that with the back cover attached ) to believe this ! also I believe that there 's no such phone ( nokia included ) that can be bought in this range ( I got mine with bill Rs 9.4 k )

There have been comparisons galore with Nokia 7250i .. I believe that mine wins hands down .. why ? look at the features .. bluetooth , a better cam , a far superior display ,wonderful icons ( compared to the standard phsychedelic icons of the nokias ) smsing much more fun , and mms though still a luxury for me ..should be more than adequate .. web reviewers call it one of the implementations of mms composers ..

One word of advice .. this is a small sleek phone , If u have fat flabby fingers ..u might not like this phone .. though I dont feel any difference personally , the buttons are right next to each other but the centre of all the buttons are elevated so u only end up pressing the center of each button .. no hassles

And frankly the plastic matchbox design nokia s uses for most of it's phones makes them look like they just came out cheap 20 $ shop .. this one is delicate looking but will not squeak even if u press it really hard .. build quality is above average and certainly better than the t610 wich it has succeded .

My review might seem only about the wow factor but trust me the phone is stable as a rock and there are no connectivty issues even with the totally bakwaas trump connection I have in delhi .

And there again ... just point me out 1 phone that provides u the same features and class at the same price ?

cheers !!

I've just listed out a few points for people looking out for a phone (Not a PDA)....around the 10k range. I've not gone into the specifics....but just stuff that you would probably use and come across on a daily basis.

Pros:

The liquid black model is a beauty to behold. For its price (10.8k, when I bought it), you get a feature-rich phone. GPRS, WAP, Bluetooth, 65K Colour TFT Screen, Camera etc. The large TFT screen clarity is superb. The inbuilt ringtones are ok. The music DJ may appeal to a few. The keypad backlight is quite adequate. Text messaging is pretty ok...the predictive text may take some time getting used to for ex-Nokia users...but once you get the hang of it...it's pretty good.

Cons:

The screen being on level with the phone is susceptible to scratches.

The phone feels delicate...not like most Nokias(Which you can throw around)

The keypad takes time to get used to...since all the keys are so close to each other.

The keypad is quite squeaky...and so is the back panel....(Maybe Im not used to delicate phones)

The camera is pathetic....I mean really!!!

The 2 MB memory is quite inadequate too.

The software is quite slow at times.

Accessing missed-calls etc.....is well, uh, a little different from Nokia.

T630 - A 'Black Beauty'
Oct 20, 2004 01:21 PM6946 Views

So here I am ... Finally I got my DREAM MOBILE ( maybe a tad too late and little bit off the mark) ....... I was awestruck by T610 and now almost after 1 year of its release I got my 'Liquid Black' T630 for 10,700/- with bill & warranty. First there are minor differences between 610 & 630 like a TFT screen (which is very good), same CIF cam but can take interpolated pictures at 640 x 480 pixels and 2.6 MB Memory compared to 1.8 MB in T610.

  1. BUILD QUALITY - Very good and the Matte finish makes it a definite head turner. The White and Black versions goes head-to-head.

  2. NETWORK RECEPTION - Good but the network signal fluctuates wildly sometimes. Its triband 900/1800/1900 Mhz

  3. CALL QUALITY - Very Good eventhough there is signal fluctuation the call quality is excellent

  4. MESSAGING FEATTURES - Very Good It has all of the messaging features like SMS,EMS,MMS and E-Mail. You can configure POP3 mail account too........ And the interface for composing the messages is very attractive and informative

  5. RINGTONES - Very Good It has 32 chord polyphonic and the ringtones are very nice to hear and audible too ...But make sure you set MIDI files which are loud enough...Also supports Nokia monophonic format and IMY,EMY formats. No MP3 ringtones is a possible letdown. But AMR files can be set as ringtones.

  6. WALLPAPERS - Very Good Photos looks crystal clear and sharp on the 65K TFT LCD and supports various formats like GIF,BMP,JPG,PNG and animated GIFS too.....

  7. CONNECTIVITY -Very Good One of the strong points of SE phones and this comes with USB/IR and BLUETOOTH support. Also can be used a wireless modem by connecting it to a PC/Laptop via a Bluetooth adaptor

  8. GAMES/APPS - Very Good Supports Java MIDP V1.0 and Mophun. Lots of games/apps are available in both the platforms but Java games are tad too slow when compared to a Nokia but the vibration and sound effects in the game make it a more exciting affair. And for the 'avid' gamer there is even a accessory called Gameboard EGB-10

  9. INTERFACE - Very Good There are shortcut buttons for Camera, Online and the 9 icon desktop resembles more of a PC and its easy to learn. But newbies might find the 'Joystick' a little tricky.

  10. CUSTOMIZABILITY - Very Good You can download wallpapers, ringtones, themes to customize the look of the phone. Softwares like Image Editor, MMS Home Studio and Theme Creator makes it much easier to personalize your phone. Also there is a in-built image editor and polyphonic ringtone composer.

  11. PIM - Very Good Has a Notes, Calendar , Alarm and Tasks sections. Can be easily synchronized with Outlook.

  12. INTERNET - Very Good Supports WAP V 2.0 and has GPRS Class 10.

  13. CAMERA - OKAY It has got a CIF camera with a basic resolution of 288 x 352 pixels but images can be interpolated to 640 x 480. The image quality is not as good as compared to a VGA cam available in many mobiles. Lots of effects can also be applied to the photos.

  14. ACCESSORIES - Lots of accessories like a FM Radio Stereo Headset, Bluetooth Headset, Bluetooth Music Handsfree, Bluetooth Car, Flash,Desktop stand are available.

Some DO's & DONTS's

--------------------------

  1. Do set a theme which is less than 55 Kb and have free memory upto 500 Kb to make the phone much quicker

  2. Do take a photo when there is 'plenty of light'

  3. Do use the 'Floats Mobile Agent' software . It is very useful

  4. Dont 'BUY THIS PHONE' for its camera. I didnt buy this phone for its camera. I have a Sony Cybershot DSC - P73 for that :-)

POSSIBLE CONTENDERS

-----------------------------

At almost the same price you can find Nokia 3220, 6610i , LG G5600, Sagem My X5-2, Alcatel 735, Philips 535, Samsung X-600, Moto C650. Each has its own pros and cons.

VERSION INFO

-----------------

My mobile came with a firmware version of R6C which is the latest firmware. Be sure to check it out when you buy one . To check the firmware info press ><<<* ( The '<' and '>' corresponds to movement of joystick )

CONCLUSION

----------------

If you want a classy mobile with good customization, connectivity features and classy look and a 'BUDGET' of 11K ...I would definitely say 'GO FOR IT'
