Sony Ericsson J200i User Reviews

Bhubaneswar India
Plain horrible!!!
Apr 12, 2005 10:24 AM 5063 Views

The J200i is plain simple nightmare to the user!!!! 5k completely wasted!!

Good things:

  1. Very sleek Love Sony Ericsson for the design!!!

  2. Display more than okay for a 5k phone.

  3. Easy to use interface.

  4. Irda

  5. Renaming of profiles possible.

  6. Nice themes and wallpapers preloaded.

And now the things that matter the most:

  1. Battery doesnt stand a 15 min conversation. Sony Ericsson should apologise to its consumers and replace the battery for free!!

  2. Audibility questionable in heavy traffic conditions.

  3. Reception not as good as Nokia/Samsung/BenQ

  4. No MMS!!!

  5. Files (pictures and tones) limited by nos which is ridiculous.

  6. Memory low

  7. Damn slow though faster than some Nokia models.

  8. No data cable available!!

  9. And software has millions of bugs

~~Phone goes into silent mode automatically.

~~Master resets itself.

~~Many tones are simply not played,I checked format and versions properly.

~~Irda gives problems sometimes. when transferring large files.

~~Hangs without any provocation.

~~Joystick problems at times.

  1. No Java for additional games.

Simply put; dont buy the phone if you get calls lasting more than 5mins!!!!!

or wait till Sony promises to fix the software probs, battery probs and makes data cable available.

J200i Is A Nightmare.
Feb 22, 2005 03:57 PM 4775 Views

After seeing its promos(display clarity in promos) I finally bought J200ibut it completely disappointed me.It has nothing that made me happy after buying it. J200i has 40-voice polyphonic ringtones which are just about average(O.K).

J200i has poor display of 4,096 colors and poor 128x128 pixels. It doesnt have Good games or MP3 Player to entertain its users.I was expecting more from J200i.

It's connectivity is also not inspiring. It has GPRS and IR that all phones of these days have,J200i doesnt presents any thing new.It doesnt have good themes not good wallpapers or screensavers which are really needed these days.

It comes with low internal memory of about 2 MB IN Which we can store hardly anything. The sound is Outstanding, but without MP3 Player it wont be used by users(sound). It has no camera port to connect a external camera.

It is priced about Just 6,000 But it has nothing that users should buy it for.Sonyericsson has created a design market with K700i,K500i and S700i but now sonyericsson has created a NIGHTMARE.On the whole,J200i will be forgotten by Indian users because of its poor features.

Good phone but only for casual users

The SonyEricsson J200i may seem attractive from its advertisements but use it for 10 minutes or more and you will become aware of its shortcomings. Okay, let me highlight the better side of the phone first.

J200i has a sleek metallic look and is impressive for a low-end phone. It has a big screen, bigger than anyother phone below Rs 6000. The polyphonic ringtones are also very loud. And it is 40-tone polyphonic. The keypad is comfortable to use and the inclusion of a joystick is very useful. Navigation through the menu is easy and its similar to other SonyEricsson phones. And the inclusion of an IrDA makes the phone really attractive.

But wait, don't rush to buy the phone. There are some shortcomings you must keep in mind. Even though the screen is big, but the resolution is only 128x128 pixels. Due to this the screen looses out on sharpness. The screen is capable of displaying 4,096 colours but the colour reproduction is not as good as Nokia 3100 and pictures containing gradients of the same colour(such as dark to light blue) seem jagged.

The 40-tone ployphony is loud but too loud for its own good and the sound cracks at full volume. Even the 16-tone polyphony of my Nokia 3200 sounds better. The phone lacks MMS and the only way to transfer pictures and melodies is through IrDA. Another peculiar problem with the phone is that the number of items that can be put in the phone is limited. For example, only 8 ringtones and 16 pictures can be put in the phone at anytime irrespective of the size of the items. And the phone lacks a voice recorder and is not capable of playing true tones either.

The phone is currently available for around Rs.5000 - 5200. Though the phone has some features which could be expected only from highier models but lacks on some basic ones. It'll be a tough competitor of T230 from the same company. I would prefer SonyEricsson T230 over J200i as the former costs around 800 bucks less and has MMS capability.

PS: This is my first review here so pls rate it so I can improve my reviews in the future.

A Sleek Mobile Phone
Jan 29, 2005 12:10 PM 5106 Views

Sony Ericsson J200i I was looking for a lightweight handy colour mobile handset as I was bored of using my 3315 Nokia (no other complaints). While surveying the market I had kept some priority as a) colour screen, b) GPRS c) polypohonic ringtones and ofcourse cost. After doing much of matchmaking (sic) I zeroed down to a set from Samsung, one from Nokia and this one Sony Ericsson J200i in the cost range of Rs. 4500-5500. The features that caught my attention;

  1. Colour Display: the colour display of this model is the most attractive feature. The display can be compared with the best of the LCD. The screen is quite wide and the colour reproduction is vivid. To personalize the phone it comes loaded with THEMES. Moreover pictures can be used as wall papers.

  2. Key Pad: the key pad is metallic and the orange glow of the LED inside makes is more upbeat and catchy, in addition to this the joystick navigation key has been multitasked to open SMS writing directly, go to folders or navigate phone list either from top or from bottom, all this with gentle push to the joy stick.

  3. Messaging: the message writing is supported with all usual features in English, Hindi and ? where one can attach pictures and also sound. In addition to this there is facility of Text Formatting, Long Messages, Sending message to Group, Creating templates and attaching the message received while replying it. You can send and receive pictures, and ring-tones.

  4. Sound Quality: the model comes loaded with many polyphonic ring tones with facility of downloading more; the sound reception is excellent including that in the hands free. Yes the SMS tones, Alarm tones are also new and fresh which makes it stand different from other phones.

  5. Connectivity: in addition to the connectivity through GSM [SIM that you use], it allows users to connect to INTERNET through GPRS, Data Transfers and it also has a Infra-Red Gate through the connectivity is allowed to download or exchange ring-tones, pictures, MMS etc. Emergency calls to the international supported numbers [112, 911 and 08] can be made with or without SIM card or connectivity.

Yes friends last but not the least the best part now is that you get a very sleek, handy and attractive handset for a price that you were paying for an ordinary set about a year ago. In the price range of Rs.5200 to 5600 the features that it supports with the brand name and guarantee of Sony Ericsson is what makes this model worth buying.
