Samsung - hero of semiconductors !!

I wanted to go for a Reliance RD 2230 .But since I heard that it was a refurbished unit, I preferred this one .I bought this handset for Rs. 1799/- It was a fairly good handset to begin with. It was good looking too . The reception of waves was excellent - nowhere had I experienced weak signals other than in remote areas .Above all it works on CDMA technology. So, the voice clarity was excellent .This handset has horizontal menus , unlike in Nokia which has vertical menus .Also , the buttons were cute . I had plans of upgrading to an LG handset

whenever I needed a broadband internet connexion in the future ( broadband internet @ 144 kbps for Rs 7 / hour).

But there were a few drawbacks . The battery time was very less - I had to charge it everyday (whereas in a Nokia 1100 charge lasts for days) . Also, the set used to get heated up very much during talktimes .I have also heard that Samsung handsets emit the maximum radiation of EM rays.Still one could say it's a very good piece with the basic features.

But the service provided by Reliance is not upto the mark .I tried to sms to an outstation GSM cell in Chennai - it did not work out- so I called their Customer care Executive and was sad to hear that for the next 1 month, no smses could be sent anywhere. He also said casually that this incompatibility is due to their ’’network upgradation’’ - how long will they upgrade their network ? Ambanis want to make the entire India have only Reliance India Mobile ........their plan does not seem to work .

But also please note that it was the introduction of Reliance's cell handsets that incoming call charges were removed by competitors and call charges became damn less . Also they give a broadband internet @ 144 kbps for just Rs.7/hr........in wirelesss! In a remote village that I know , Reliance is the only Service Provider to have built a tower. My family friend had visited a remote village in Ramnad district of Tamilnadu - to his surprise he could surf the net at broadband speeds using his RIM phone - yes, you can take a laptop and browse at broadband speeds anywhere in India since the Ambanis have erected towers in almost all villages of India - a broadband revolution( but Samsung 356 does not support R-World ) !!

If you are shifting to a new town in India , you can take ur handset there and upgrade to a new # . Also, if your phone is lost, you can file an FIR , take it to a nearby Reliance Web World and block the cellphone's operation - after that the handset is a dummy . Despite these many technical advantages , due to ineffficient handling of services , the Ambanis lost their reputation . You know, I got a mail which says 3G CDMA means ’’ 3 Gujarati Chor Dhirubhai Mukesh Anil’’ .

Sad to see such a good powerful network having lost its reputation . The reason : Incompatibility with GSM Network and hi call charges and above all poor customer service.

Ultimately , is RIM good or bad ?

My word : A good handset , by a cellular service provider with bad reputation . 3 stars to Reliance + Samsung 356 . Guys, you can go for a Reliance , but know why . Then you would have made the right choice. Good or bad, I can no longer use my Sam slim- bcos I lost it !!! Sad that I lost a piece made by world's semiconductor giant. But not much bcos it is a ''3G CDMA''.............I hope you got it !

When I lost my Reliance Nokia 2280 I got this back in exchange.

It's keypad is different from the nokia keypad, so it took me time to get used to the keypad while sending sms. One thing is that if you master this keypad you will find it very hard to go back to the nokia keypad.

Now, it comes with a good range of ringtones, but they're not very appealing. It's small size is a plus and a minus, and has given me many scares in the full year that I have had it.

It provides for not many options and things to do with the phone, R-world is NOT available, nor are other services. All you can do with this is take calls and recieve calls.

Its message memory is quite small, of about 40 or so. Even while writing new messages you cannot exceed 140 characters which may seem like a lot but not enough.

The display of the phone is dull and a little booring.

Most importantly its battery life is not very good, its idle time is maybe two days, and average usage of maybe one day. So if you go out of your house, make sure you take the charger alongwith you. Though it is quite sturdy and tough and can withstand being dropped many times.

You really can't ask for more at this price

It has been a week since I have got my new Samsung Slim. Here are some facts about the product.

For the price that it comes I must say that its extremely functional product. You can call it a no non-sense product. For the first time user of the cell phone, I think you cant ask for more than this (just like Nokia 3310). For the users who are migrating from high end GSM phones to Samsung Slim (because of attractive tariff plans of Reliance), I must say you will have to lower down your expectations.

Its monochrome display is quite neat and tidy but is nothing compared to the high resolution colour displays that we are used to these days. The screen size is also not that great with only 2 lines of SMS visible at a time. The amber back light is different but I dont know if its better than the traditional ones. The red light for button sucks though and makes it look real ugly.

Although the phone manuals and advertising reads a lot of fancy stuff about the ringtones, they are pretty ordinary compared to new generation polyphonic phones nevertheless the number of tunes that it has is quite large so you are bound to find which appeals to you.

For me one of the important features in the phone is navigation. Samsung Slim has pretty decent navigation, although Nokia users will have to adjust to the horizontal menu.

The feel of the buttons is extremely good and the response time is also less, so you get what you want almost instantaneously.

As far as look go, although this has been projected as USP of the product, I must say my friends did comment about it resembling to the toy phones. But nevertheless it is different from what you normally get these days. Vibrator is tuned perfectly I think.

But the biggest dissapointment that I have from the phone is that Tunes and Vibrator dont play together, so you can miss some calls.

Its been a week so far and it has hung once, which I think is normal for CDMA phones.

The biggest worry for CDMA phones is the battery life. I have tested it without charging it for 2 days and must say it lasts quite well for 48 hrs or so for a normal use (around 2hrs of talktime in that).

Charger although is bit bulky but atleast troublefree compared to those flat ones which use to come with LG initially.

All n all I must say for the price for which it comes a good buy.

Here's what everyone knows: The new Samsung slim phone is only 13mm thick looks really groovy.

As an owner of this product I think I can tell you some things you might not know:

This is quite a basic product so do not expect great features along with this. The LG phone for 500 extra packs in a lot more features.

User Friendliness: The phone is quite user friendly and scores over the LG RD 2130 on this count - the buttons are easier to press and the set-up is more intuitive. The display is adequate though is not in sync with the stylishness of the phone overall.

Usage: Slightly problematic here. Is not for heavy users(>2hrs on a charge). It's not a Nokia and might give you a couple of hours of talk time at a stretch. Is fine for a medium user such as me though.

Ther have been some noises about the signal receiving but it's fine for a Reliance. I dont think any cell phone works properly in a lift/basement.

Features: Memory is quite adequate. Can have memos and notes apart from 2000 address book entries. No probs on this count. The settings for rings and displays are adequate.

Problems: There are some serious problems though. The black colour seems to be one of the reasons for the instrument to overheat. The phone has hung a couple of times when I roamed about Mumbai on a hot day. Definitely not what you want to happen. samsung will have to do something about this soon.

No R WOrld - which means if you want more games, ring tones, cricket updates and easier means of payment(through the phone itself) then you've got probs.

All in all the product performance don't match the cool looks but if you want a phone that looks good and fits even better in your pocket AND do not depend on your phone for your life, then you could go for it.

New Samsung slim 356 from Reliance

What it shows ? Does what it says?

Let?s have a look of this.

I hope every one has seen the commercial of this, a slim young woman runs with the hand set here and there?

Well let?s see why she is so slim!!!

One of my colleague bought Samsung slim 356 from a reliance outlet here in Bangalore. Yes it?s the trend & fashion leader by merely carrying this stylish phone and attracts attention from people around you.

NETWORK: - Signals

But it can?t attract the network when you are in basement or in closed circuits. Really this is very poor catching up with the network. The other Relinace phones are able to get access the network even in the closed circuits LG RD 2030 and Nokia 2230. These both handsets are getting 2 points of signal strength but you won?t find bare and the phone will slack the battery incisive for the network with in an hour or two.

Solution: Don?t even think about this.

After seeing this for a day my associate went to a nearest reliance web world and explained his problem to them, they showed the way to Samsung Service Center and they finalized that the handset is good, but the network is not good so please consult customer care or the Reliance web world. (quite a good solution ? remember this and you find why the young woman is slim?and why she runs here and there?because you need to run here and there to the web world and to the Samsung service station).

Interface:

It?s not user friendly and even don?t think about this?it?s slim and doesn?t mean that it?s gets the technology ? the screen size is 128*64 B/W (Compare with LG RD 2130 which cost?s you Rs.3,500/- Rs.500/- more than Samsung Slim) but it?s better than this!!!

How?

The sound which the Samsung say?s poly ? naaa it?s a Tom & Jerry tracks and old fashioned once.

The Battery Back Up: Which it uses 800mAH which is even useless and it even can?t stand a talk time of 1 hour ? so if you are talking with your loved once on a joy 499 offer you need to carry your charger with you which is not slim. The charger is double the size of the Handset and what makes it slim or what Samsung gives distinction as very slim I don?t know, but they need to come up with all these changes.

Not a Multimedia Handset:

Everyone looks for Reliance world on their handsets and the Nokia 2280 which is less than this got best options like

Its user friendly

R world compatible

And the screen displays good quality than Samsung slim 356.

These are the main disadvantages my associate explained to me and I have seen him charging the handset at regular intervals.

Well what are you waiting for ? if you want to be slim like the handset you can grab Samsung slim ? but this handset is not for use ? its used to run here and there.

Have a nice day ? I prefer to be with Nokia 2280, LG RD 2230, LG RD 2130 etc.
