It is by far the best one I have used. The phone is an exercise in perfection. Compact looks, dual LCD, superb reception Etc all. Let us start with pros. It is delightfully compact. So much so that it won't even create a bulge in your pocket when you slip ii in. The battery life is sufficient good. The caller ID on the cover LCD is just brilliant, so are the lights and the display. The great thing about this set is its superlative handling.

OMG i can't believe this review panel exists !

This mobile is Great nothing special it has monochrome display with Blue LED back-light and its ringtones are polyphonic or something but its just great and I when I got the time gave this to Samsung main center to repair it and they said...

They're not sure if they can repair it but they'll try and it would take more than 2 months i'm still waiting. So getting this mobile is Totally impossible and getting it in Working condition is almost as hard as NUTS. So good luck if you're looking for a working one. I'm giving my 9, 000 INR to get this repaired WHY ??

Because it has sentimental values dammit !

A cute phone for buisiness people but not durable
Dec 05, 2006 07:22 PM2475 Views

I viewed all the reveiwed listed in this site.

As a whole I have different openion.

Basically I have a experience to explore the  use of  all the features of the product I owned.

# Answering Machine = it is very usefull for a business executive to maitaine relations with  thier clientles. OK

# 2000 Phone book memory.= Good for a business executive to store  enough contacts. OK. I used 2000 full and 250 memory on the sim also. for me it is not sufficient.

#call conferencing= It is very easy to to dial/attend second call during conversation and no need to dial 3 or 2 or 1 to conference /attend/swap the call. all features will be asked by the phone menu keys itself. very easy and good.

#Voice memo= no use. I used tro here my wife's sound/song.

#Alarm= Two alarms available. so we can set two different times to wake up in the morning. Never miss the wakeup call.= Ok Good

#During incoming call the number of the second caller will be displayed. So we can identifiy the number and aswer subsequently. Compared to nokia it is good. nokia hand set will show the number of second caller only for a moment and and after it will be displayed as second call. So this phone is ok.

# If there is a dicvert call is coming to a A 800 , that will show the call as a diverted call for a moment. Where as  Samsung R 220 will have a option for showing the diverted call permenently till attendence by a arrow ( >) . We don't no whether we are continuing a diverted call of our number( out going of this nuber is chargable) or not? this fecility is poor with this model.

# No datacable or blue tooth fecility with this model. so it is very difficut to copy datas( Phone book etc) .

#I was using this SGH a 800 phone from 2002, bought it from dubai @ 925AED( around 12500 indian rupees) and replaced the phone one time with in 8 months from the date of purchase due to not working.faced so many pblms & expenced around 4000/- rupees during this last three years for make the phone working. But one thing, I used to talk minimum 3Hrs a day average through this phone. Replaced batteries ( orginal) 4 times cost INR -2000/- etc. Now the phone is totally not usable and the people from samsung is telling that the display replacement cost will be INR 1600/- and no guarantee to ensure the perfect working of the cell phone after the service.  Even though I like the shape and features of the phone I find the way of buying a new phone from samsung to ensure the available features of the A 8000 I used to.  I bought a new phone but unfortunatly  so many featuires are not available with Latest samsung/nokia/sony ericson/others.

I am in need of a phone which should feature the followings: can you sugest any model/make?

1) Minimum  phone Book: 2000.

2) Answering Machine.( Capable of recording answering memos)

3) GPRS

3) Blue tooth

4) On call recording for at least 5 minutes.

5) Battery back up talk time at least 4 hrs.

6) Öption for sending Business V cards.

7) Call conference by menus- not dialling 3 or 2 or 1

8) Message memory 200 atleast.

9) Picture message and voice message/MMS support.

10) Inbuilt  Modem ( high speed internet connctivity)

11) Capable for showing divert call specially.

12) Games are okk for me in A 800. good

13) Distintive ring for various numbers.

14) option for accessing all phone books during FDN mode.

15) Thanks to samsung for a cute and some important features incorporated for a business executive.

Thanks to mouthshut.com for giving me a room for rating a product.

Sell it after using for 4months
Aug 26, 2005 05:55 PM2518 Views

I got my a800 on march 2004. reason for selecting it over a range of nokias with color display was its small size, sleek look and clamshell design. I was very happy to see its 2000 number phone memory even I never used its 10%. the most cool thing was 200 sms storage and easy navigation trough msgs with left and right arrows.

after one week I noticed that the volume of ringing is very low and no downloaded ringtones and operator logos works. the other problem was if we delete a message from inbox ,the inbox reloads completely and go to first message and that was same for phone book also. the phone have a low range compared to nokia phones in its class.

after 3 months the real problems began to appear .i noticed a black shade on the front dispay and afer one week it began to spread all over it and on one evening it went completely blue. I showed it to one mobile repairing shop and he said that there are many

a800 phones coming there with same problem and it is because that the phone cant withstand the pressure when it is kept inside ur jeans pocket. he said that he can replace the display with a duplicate one for 1200/- with no guarantee ,i said no. I continued to use the phone and I had to attend all calls coming because when the flap is opened the call get picked. and now I got a phone with no display backlight ,stiff keypad ,battery backup of stand by time nearly 10h .

my dealer offered me 600/- as exchange price for my A800 which was bought for 8500/- before one year.

Ah the A800!!It is by far the best one I have used. The phone is an exercise in perfection.Compact looks, dual LCD, superb reception et al.Let us start with the pros - it is delightfully compact. So much so that it won't even create a bulge in your pocket when you slip it in. It has tremendous functionality.2000 phone memory, planners, great message memory to name a few.It is also equipped with some greta built in polyphonic tones. The sound reception is great so is the sound system which is decently loud. The battery life is sufficiently good. The sheen of this cell lies in its dual LCD.The caller ID on the cover LCD is just brilliant, so are the lights and the display. The great thing about this set is its superlative handling. The 4 way navi key is great and the titles are so easy to understand. It does suffer from minor niggles though which prevents it from rising to the very top echelon of cell phones. It lacks a data cable, it is not supportive of picture messages & even though it is cute, the A800 also happens to be fragile. There were also unconfirmed reports of an LCD problem plaguing the earlier versions of this set.

Very Nice to USE

The quantity that can be held in the hand

Very handy model.

Salient Features-

Design of Samsung SGH-A800 with flapper made it very compact that weighing about 80 gm with an admirable dimension of 76.3 x 44.2 x 22.7 mm. It is a “Hang it from the neck” phone.

# My handset is in silver metallic with a blue backlight. It has seven color LED and 16 Polyphonic Ringtones. However, you cannot download and save those popular Indian ringtones. Even so, Polyphonic ringtone of SGH-A800 creates a center of attention of all others.

# A-800 comes with customizable Memory Allocation. Not yet tried it.

# Battery is integral part the back lid like all other Samsung cell phones. It has 800 mA, Lithium-Ion battery with talk time upto 3 hours and 120 hours standby (never bothered to check this claim of Samsung). Battery takes too much of time to get charged unlike Nokia.

# The outside display (on the flapper) has 64x64 pixels of resolution and can display up to three lines of text with digital clock option – good enough for basic information.

# The inner display has 128X128 pixels of resolution. You have choice of seven colors - white, yellow, light blue, green, violet, orange and dark blue. It can associate a call indicator light with phone numbers from the phone book – better-half can be easily identified – thank god – Samsung is great.

# It has three games - fortress, space war and x-fighter but there is no option to download extra games. I am not a great gamer so not much of problem for me but sons are not amazed by these games.

# Other features include Voice recording, commanding and memo - Typical of Samsung but not yet tried.

Experience -

Using it since one month and took sometime to accustomed with it only because it is much delicate than 3310/3315 or even 3610. Initially I used to open the flap very carefully and in that process the side button used to get pressed and calls were rejected. Now I have set the option to silence mode so only ringtone made silent.

Pros:

It is a good-looking phone – Trendy & Handy. Good sound and choice of Polyphonic Ringtones made it attractive however many do not like to download ringtones of their choice and that is not possible.

Good features – it took some time to figure out how to use them. I am not crazy about too many features so not at all a problem. Please check its features before buying it if you are feature crazy chap.

It is Handy and Trendy. That’s the problem – its cute look tempt other to explore it. My heart run faster when someone open the flapper to see the inner screen and close it the flapper with a bang. Friends, A-800 is not designed for muscleman.

It has a navigator with a choice to select four features for quick selection. You can choose four features that you use frequently. Friends, that’s a useful feature to make life little comfy.

Clock with blue screen-light on the outside screen is useful. Outer screen also display name of the caller/number or number of missed call or message.

Message alert is has options of continuous ringing or intermittent or only once or vibration. It will not ring continuously if set for intermittent ring. That’s a great feature to ignore the messages of annoying BPL-Mobile when I enter Mumbai.

Cons:

Initially A-800 is not an easy to use handset even with the instruction book – at least true for me. Maybe, I am used to Nokia phones and they are simple to use and logical.

You cannot download any pictures or ringtones. It does not support latest trends of picture messaging.

Writing message is not that easy with my thick fingers – needs some more practice.

Delicate one unlike my old friend Nokia 3310 that had survived many falls.

General Comments:

I love the style of this Samsung A800 mobile phone – Sleek & Trendy with great polyphonic tones - hang it from the neck and move around. Like any other Samsung cell-phones, A-800 has Samsung features like Voice Command/Dial. A-800 is a cool phone, even though it does not have a camera or colored screen – not a CIA agent so camera is not necessary for me. According to some of the friends, the newer software is better than the older version – no personal experience and till today not faced any software related problem.

It’s Handy & Trendy
Jan 18, 2004 05:41 PM5391 Views

It’s Handy & Trendy I am a Nokia fan but switched over to Samsung SGH-A800 because of its compact size, trendy look and heavy discount offered by the local dealer – not from gray market. Samsung SGH-A800 is one of the latest from Samsung with duel bands. Duel bands are GSM 900 + DCS 1800 and I have little knowledge about it so will avoid to write about it. It is very small because SGH-A800 is a flapper type version. Like all other Samsung models, it is also not as sturdy as my old friend 3310 is.
