I had clear expectation from my mobile when I went shopping for my mobile.
My need: Budget - 2500, Voice clarity, Long battery life, 1000+ contacts, Ease of use, Durability, No Jing Bang
When I saw Nokia 2220 Slide. I was floored by its looks for Rs.2300. Expected Nokia to deliver good voice clarity and battery life. Was shocked to experience poor voice quality. At max volume it is hardly audible. Pai showroom didn't take it back. Nokia care tells all is fine with the mobile and low voice level is 2220's feature. I have been a mobile user for a decade, but have not experienced such bad sound quality except for Nokia's other failure model - supervnova. So much for my cribbing. Now for objective review:
Looks: Simply great. , Sturdiness: Great, In terms of menu richness it has more than what a basic nokia 1000 series offers. In fact its pretty good. It's a breeze to use.
Speaker phone and ear piece voice is shallow and cracky, significantly Nokia Care and Pai showroom say that this is how 2220 is, and my mobile is not an exception. Good for use only in a quiet room, not for outside use or even in an open office.
The camera is basic and the image cannot be taken out of mobile. Music player is there but you cannot copy songs into the mobile. Both the above features are as good as non existant, I didnt buy this mobile for these so doesn't matter. The FM radio works only with headphones, it is not antenna free.
I'll update this review with battery quality after a week's use.
If you want a Nokia mobile for show at Rs. 2300, go for this. Otherwise avoid Nokia 2220 Slide. Instead go for Nokia 2700C or a candy bar basic model (1000 series) of Nokia. Samsung Guru 1175 seems to be better as well (@30% less price) if you can tolerate a Samsung mobile.
