GA628 (God Awful 628)
Jun 20, 2005 08:37 PM 3222 Views

What can I say about this phone!!!! This cell is the mai-baap of all phone's i've ever seen.

This is the absolutely first phone i've ever owned in my life and let me tell you that i've owned quite a few. A list wouldnt be a bad idea with the sequence of the phones i've owned

Ericsson GA628

Nokia 5110

Nokia 2100

Samsung SGH-R200

Nokia 8310

Nokia 6220

Nokia 6230.

I dont know why I typed that......i guess....i had nothing better to do....sorreeeee.

Anways...back to the GA628

The minuite I purchased this phone....the first thing I did was to open my Owners Manual. And let me tell you......that manual didnt give me too much confidence about the phone.

The first line in the manual went like this. ''The Ericsson GA628, a phone for the people who want an Ericsson but with a difference''......(when I later on opened the phone I realized exactly what they meant by difference......the phone was heavy, bulky, ugly and had jelly-like keys...) If this was different.....i wanted to be plain-ordinary.

But then....i had already purchased the phone....so I thought why not make the best of it....and the best of it I did make.

Before you read any further....take a look at the phone's pic above......

Well....in the age of the Nokia 5110's......this phone was something different to look at. I should know....All my friends were roaming around with the 5110's and I was the lone-soul with the GA628....I thought I was making quite a statement......until I read the first statement in the owner's manual.......but I will be repeating myself if I go there again.

Anyhow....the phone......The thing is so big and so heavy........like a Nokia 9210/9210i/9300/9500, you'd think ''O-boy.....i'm gonna get a lot of facilities in this one''.....And the facilities you get....!!

You get a single-line/one-line display to read and write smses.....and in this age of long-long-ohhhh-so-long smses.....it takes about a million miniutes to read a forward. The phone's processing is very slow....but then your hand processing is not too fast either because the jelly-keys take some getting used to.

Overall....the phone....is the phone....if you want a simple pickup-talk-hangup phone.......and dont want to use a Nokia 5110. But a word of caution.....Do not give this phone as a gift to your girlfriend/boyfriend whom you may dump after sometime.....because when this brickbat lands on your head.....you'll be lucky if you live to regret it.

Ugly duckling/Ugly frog.....but kiss it, love it....and it turns into a White Swan/Handsome Prince.

As for my GA628.....its right there......in my house....I kiss it once a day....but it becomes no beautiful princes....rather my mouth gets dusty. But oh-I do use it for excercises when I cant find my dumbells.

ERICCSON GA628-Good Robust handset
Apr 09, 2004 05:03 PM 3516 Views

Presently I have graduated to a modern mobile Motorola T180. Ericcson GA628 was my first mobile handset on 2001. During those days it was just becoming obsolete, but still in vogue. Incoming calls were were not free then ....hence just having the handset was a status quo.

It was a simple handset with easy to understand features and operation. Probably it was the right handset for the one who is using a mobile for the first time.

It is robust, and works well even after droping it several times. However its antennae get dislodged many times, and it costs about Rs.100 to repair it.

Network is good and works well even in weak network areas during the train journey etc.voice quality is superb.

It is indeed a big mobile, more like a remote or cordless phone for the present times. I had to sell it off, as batteries were becoming a problem and it was not easily available in the market. Moreover Ericcson has stopped the manufacture....hence in the long run it will probably not be a practical purchase............

Ericsson GA 628 -cooler then the coolest.I gone through some one's review that he cause a heart problem due to the hand set.I don't think so.If I am not able to drive a car properly and its cause an accident. then its not the fault of car.Like that you can't blame mobile.

See the other part.

Talk Time: 180 minutes. Standby time: 80 hours. Wireless Protocol: GSM. Enhanced Full Rate Speech Coding. Handsfree Equipment for the Car. Connects to PC devices (cables). Keypad Lock.

I hope now u can like it.

Use it to believe it.

The cost and the size is good for all.

I think after the review u may like to buy it.

Dil Ka Dard

2 years ago when I had this piece I was happy with it. But one day when I had kept it in my shirt's left pocket (Next to my heart) a new one rupee coin got stuck on it's hearing receiver. From that day I didn't keep this piece in my shirt but rather sold it out as it causes heart problems when kept in shirt pocket. This piece is a cause of disease. So all those who are planning to buy this model think twick before buying. If you ask me I'll not tell anybody to purchase this model of cellphone.

Baatein kiye jav...

I have owned this mobile for the past 3 years and can honestly say that it has given me no problems. Apart from wanting new features I have no reason to change the hand set.

I bought my set while in the UK where I had joined the BT Cellnet and for a mere 119 pounds sterling, I got the hand set, case, in-car charger, hands free kit and 5 pounds worth of calls a month for a year. The only extra I had to pay (this was optional) was the monthly itemised bill.

The set itself still leaves a lot to be desired compared to the handsets we get these days. GA 628 only has 7 ring tones, does not support WAP technology, does not have any other features like the games or the calculator etc. Being a technology freak I love those extras... but how do I justify (specially to my other half) going for another set while this set is still working!!!!

The hand set is a bit bulky so it does not easily stay in your shirt pocket... if you have it strapped to you trouser belt then the antenna gets in the way (I should know I have broken two of those!).

If you have the money and a choice then I'd say go for something with more features.

Battery problem
Nov 27, 2000 12:18 PM 3307 Views

Ericsson GA 628 was purchased by me five months back for the simple reason that I found it necessary for communicating and keeping in touch with people.I purchased it on the recommendation of a friend. In the beginning, it was functioning very well but as the time passed there seemed to be some problem with the battery. What I like about the product is that it is sturdy and the voice quality is quite clear. But now I'm planning to purchase a different brand for the reason that every time when somebody calls up,the ''battery low'' signal flashes up.
