Cingular Rip-off
Apr 26, 2003 09:45 AM 9690 Views

Cingular Wireless obviously spends an enormous amount of money on advertising, leaving little left over for basic customer service. This has got to be one of the worst companies I have ever done business with.

If you are considering signing up for one of their plans, DON'T.

Cingular Wireless:

  • misrepresents its ability to provide service in both cities and rural areas -- a good 50% of my phone calls drop abruptly in the middle of the conversation

  • provides no customer service to respond to reception problems, other than poorly trained operators who say they'll file a ''report''

  • adds enormous charges for overages in usage

  • tells you that your minutes rollover from one month to the next, but fails to warn you either that you forfeit all rollover minutes if you change a billing plan

  • fails to advise that evening and weekend minutes do not rollover

  • has declared my account ''delinquent'' even before 30 days of the date of the bill that's sent out

This is a RIPOFF and an awful service. Spare yourself.

Don't lose your cingular cell on a holiday!
Nov 30, 2002 09:57 PM 8209 Views

To make a long one short..my son lost or misplaced his cell phone day before Thanksgiving and waited to tell me ON Thanksgiving! I immediately called Cingular to report this and to suspend service..I happily began pressing the buttons to report a lost or stolen phone,,only to get ''ALL OFFICES ARE CLOSED DUE TO THE THANKSGIVING HOLIDAY!!!!!! So, here was Thanksgiving ruined due to worry this! I called next day and luckily no one used the phone! HOWEVER..I informed Cingular representative that in the event it was used, I would not be responsible as I COULD NOT report it lost on Thanksgiving..he said

OH yes you are''!!!!!!! Needless to say, I am done with Cingular! A word to the wise 'Don't lose or have anyone steal your cell on a holiday'' As if someone would really plan to do this!

Cingular One and Bell South, One in the Same
Nov 27, 2001 08:45 AM 13464 Views

Bell South has now changed to Cingular One. I have the same plan that I had with Bell South. I pay 35.00 a month for 250 minutes that roll over to the next month if I don't use all of them or even part of them. The roll over minutes can be used for up to 4 years. I make my long distance calls now more than ever from my cell phone. There is no charge for the first 30 seconds of ring time either, this is cool because you can hang up within those 30 seconds and not be billed at all, if over 30 seconds then I am billed for 1 minute. (Cingular One has recently told me that my roll over minute plan is now grand fathered. For me that means that my roll over minutes are good for four years!) I still have the caller id and the message service and I love having those. I still have the roadside assistance, which has come in handy, a time or two. Our church youth group has traveled several times at great distances in the church van and I allow my teenager to take the cell phone with her. So long as the phone is with my daughter the roadside service will work for them should they need it! The roadside service still offers free towing to the nearest garage or they will have a flat tire changed or will have gas brought, what ever the problem may be they will take of it. This is nice to have. I pay 2.50 a month for the roadside assistance. I pay 3.95 for the service plan for insurance and repairs on my phone. I pay .50 cents a month for 911 services. Total bill along with those pesky taxes (and where I live there are 5 different ones) is 52.86 plus any long distance outside of the state of Florida. I take my phone wherever I go. I have my home phone calls forwarded to the cell phone (which is really good when I am out fishing or on a rare vacation) and the rates for long distance is as follows: I have free long distance in the state of Florida and so long as I call inside the state I have no long distance charge at all. Outside Florida I have no roaming fees and pay only the small long distance fee. This fee depends on the area. Most of the time the fee is from .69 cents to .99 cents per minute and even lower in some areas. There is no tower fee from one state to the next. While on vacation this past June 01 this was a nice feature to have. I had all our calls from home forward to the cell phone the week we were gone and the most I paid for any long distance call was 4.28 for a 15-minute call. That was a really good rate I thought. I find Cingular One to be kind and accurate. I have had no problems with them in any way. The staff if wonderful and so far I have had the pleasure of getting only men/women who know what they are talking about when I have had to call in. Now I have to say here that always they look over my plan and ask if they may do so first and then advise me on other options that may be available. Not once have I ever been pressured into changing my plan. In fact I have been advised to keep the plan I currently have. And since my old plan is now grand fathered there is no need for me to change.

My year contract has been up for several months now, and I am choosing to stay where I am! Cingular One works for me. When it was Bell South, the plan worked well! The following is some of the original opinion on Bell South cellular service, since changing over to Cingular One most of the review is above. I just wanted people to know basically how well I enjoyed Bell South so I left this little paragraph in the review. Everyone should use this service. In the now 5 years that I have been using Bell South I have enjoyed it greatly. I do hit those ''dead cells'', but Bell South is working hard to get all towers working in all areas. I have such a wonderful sense of stability with my cell phone and my service. I have the roadside service feature and have used it, thank goodness for having, and it cost me nothing (I now pay a small fee for this service). I pay a package amount each month (35.00) and have service in all of the United States, including Hawaii and Alaska with free long distance calling within the state of Florida and low long distance outside the state with no roaming or tower fees. I have the caller id feature and forward calls from home to the cell phone. I love my wireless phone and it ability to work well.

The service is just great for me, the price is within my budget, and I have a security in using my cell phone as needed. There are many plans to choose from, but this is the one for me. The Bell South staff is kind and knowledgeable and is pleasant when I call. They know all answers to my questions and have not pressured me in any way to change my plan. They have always asked permission to go over the account with me and have offered suggestions along the way. And because of those suggestions I now have a better plan, which is grand fathered and saved me money. I hope that this has helped in some kind of way. God Bless!
