Sony Vaio E Series SVE15117FNB Laptop Reviews

Wow!! to Vaio
Jun 18, 2010 07:01 PM 3083 Views

The Sony Vaio VGN-AR18GP is a truly spectacular laptop. The specifications are magnificent and allow you play high spec games and run demanding software, all with a large 15.5" screen.

-Processor-the Core 2 Duo processor clocked at 2.2 GHz is remarkably fast, and more than capable to deal with most PC games. I found it could run games like Age of Empires 3 and similarly specced games with ease. I was also able to run some pretty demanding map editing software without any slowdown or freezing. I wouldn't recommend over clocking the processor, however as it overheats very easily.

-RAM-The 4GB of RAM(random access memory) is more than enough to run multiple applications at once. It is high speed(800 MHz clock) and is DDR2 meaning it'll be very reliable. Windows 7 requires around half a gigabyte and when I'm running a game, an instant messenger and some graphics software I still have 1.5GB free. ReadyBoost is available if you feel you need extra memory, though I doubt you will.

-Operating System-Windows 7 works exceptionally well and benefits from the improved task bar or'dock' at the bottom. It requires a mere 512MB to run and runs like a dream, unlike its predecessor Windows Vista.

-Hard Drive-It comes complete with an internal 320GB HDD. This should be plenty for most people; however you can buy external storage if you feel it isn't big enough.

-Keyboard & Touchpad-The keyboard is a little cramped for my liking, and doesn't fill the complete width of the system. Despite this, it's still pretty easy to use and this is only really a problem when typing for extended periods. The touchpad is very tactile and responsive, no problems here.

-Display-The widescreen 15.5" TFT monitor is more than large enough and like allSony Vaios the screen as a certain glow to it. I love the glossy look of it and Sony have really out done themselves here.

-Other-The Wireless card quickly finds your local area network and does its job well. The graphics card supplied is integrated and also works well without overheating. The webcam supplied is very poor(0.3 megapixels) and the resolution is only 640x480, not really worth using unless you have to as the quality is pretty poor.

-Verdict-Overall the Vaio VGN-AR18GP is a very capable laptop from Sony. The major pitfall is the price -1, 50000+ is quite a lot of money. For a Vaio packed with features that price isn't that high of an ask though, and you do get quite a lot for your money, including solid build quality. I was very impressed by this laptop and I think it's well deserved a 9/10(5 stars)

Not woth the price
Jun 02, 2010 06:40 PM 8923 Views

I bought THIS VAIO E Series Laptop in March 2010 and since then I have been facing problems with this stuff non-stop.

  1. The lid is so susceptible to scratches, that u cant even afford to keep an A4 paper/notecopy/brochure over it. Forget pen/watch/cellphone

  2. Its been just 3 months and my LCD has been showing signs of faded fungal footprints on the left half of the screen

  3. The looks are good, but my previous laptop of Compaq was really really tougher and lasted for 4 long yrs with maximum usage

  4. There are patches that have formed all across my lid and its very depressing to watch a new laptop getting weary so fast.

  5. I wish I cud get an exchange for such cheap quality stuff

  6. Its not meant for college-goers/ offc workers...it is only meant for those who stay at home and want to use the laptop rather than a desktop

I am from Bangalore, and bought it at 39, 990 and the only colours available were Grey and White....nothing else

My suggestion - sorry to say, but do not buy this. Do let me know if anyone else is also facing the same issues

Perfect computer
May 27, 2010 05:39 PM 2715 Views

This is a perfect computer for the average person. Buying anything more expensive than this is simply a waste of moeny.

As soon as bought this I loaded it up with my songs, videos, chat programs, web browser and other fun things. This computer responded as expected. It still works as fast as the first day I bought it. 4GB of RAM make you fly no matter how many things you are doing at the sam time. the processor 1.8 is not impressive but there is no chance that you will slow down this computer if you are the average user.

Lots of Hard Drive space, I love it.

The most important thing about this PC is that it is easy to bring it back to its factory settings. Let's say after two years it slowed down and you are dealing with some annoying viruses that you cant seem to get rif off. Well this PC has an easy couple of steps deal that will allow you to format it and bring it back to how it was when you first got it.

Video Audio Integrated Output
Apr 29, 2010 05:43 PM 4561 Views

I bought this Laptop from an Internet site and have not been disappointed. There is plenty of space for storing all the files that you want, from Word Documents and Excel sheets (making it very useful for anyone who is self employed and keeps documents for work, whilst needing to use it whilst out), to medial files such as downloaded Films, music and photos.

The computer itself loads quickly and processes quickly. The DVD player is certainly very reliable, and the Wireless Internet has no problems in picking up the Internet Connection. Easy to use and smart as well as very reliable. Even the instruction manual is easy to use, whether is it the easy Set-Up or the full Instructions.

The only small problem with anything that Sony make is that as soon as you buy something as good as this, they usually bring out something even better as quickly as they can. Also, make sure you shop around for a good price because they can vary a lot depending on whether you use an internet site or a electrics shop

Please dont go for Sony Vaio.. atleast CS25GN!!!
Dec 18, 2009 03:03 PM 4165 Views

Hello,

I brought SONY VAIO laptop VGN-CS25GN/B from ezone in May'2009. Initially every thing was smooth. after 5 months issues started: first with the LCD. A thin blue/ green/ pink [I don’t exactly remember the color] horizontal line started appearing at the bottom of the screen.

took it to service station, they did replaced LCD and gave it back after 10 days.

after 2-3 weeks. then suddenly d laptop dies[not switching on].

again had to take it to service.got the MTX[Motherboard] replaced. in another 5-10 days.

and then could find an announcement for warranty extension for some other defect[fan noise.] from sony for the same product.

https://sony.co.in/support/product/vgn-cs25gn

Issue is not with the support provided, its with the value for money/ quality. how can LCD & Motherboard fail in less that 6 months. we can understand if the fan makes sound:)

they were not willing to replace the product. I think its coz, even they may not be confident on their product. that same issues may come in new laptops also.

This crap had cost 55K INR.

I would suggest you all not to go by the brand name. from my exp. this product its just a crap. HP, Lenovo or any other laptop. say Toshiba would be a better option for this amount of money.

I’m using the sony erricson mobile for past 3 years [w850] with out any issues. and I’m not against sony products in any way.

but I have to say VGN-CS25GN/B is nothing but a crap.

I don’t get any responses from online support too. which is making me write this. and I will post the same across all available sites so that people are aware of these low quality products from this big brand.

BEWARE. all.

cheers. gud luck.

FW31J review
Dec 11, 2009 04:22 PM 17245 Views

Sony laptops have a cult following second only to Mac laptops. Unfortunately, a lot of Vaio users have recently switched sides and bought themselves the exorbitantly priced Mac books. Manufacturers like Dell, Hp and Lenovo on the other hand have chosen the simpler and cheaper route of making ‘affordable’ laptops.  The Sony FW31J laptop is perhaps one of the few laptops on the market capable of making even the Mac book look puny. Unlike conventional laptops, the  FW31J comes with a 16.4 “ WGA+ screen, and boasts of a Bluray drive for additional entertainment options.

I have been using the FW31J for the past year and have found the laptop a complete joy to use. Vaio’s have been criticized for being overpriced(let’s not discuss Mac books then), but the FW31J is a value for money laptop.

Screen*

The 1600x900 resolution screen is a joy. With a vast majority of movies still available in the older DVD format, the screen a fantastic job of displaying blur free pictures and graphics. For people looking for a truly magnificent experience, watching a Bluray movie on the FW31J is a must. Although the HD standard requires a 1080p screen for full features, the 900p screen of the FW31J is more than sufficient and the wide screen aspect ratio is preserved thanks to the 16.4 “ wide screen display.

Sony claims the screen has a dual backlight and uses the revolutionary(?) X-black technology. In a nutshell, viewing movies on the laptop is a joy.

Keyboard and touchpad*

The FW31J comes with an ergonomic keyboard that takes after the Mac book. The keys are spaced apart and not crammed together like other laptops or a regular keyboard. The touchpad of the FW31J is one of the most responsive I have used, and is very easy to use(once you get used to the lower placement compared to other laptops).

Preloaded software*

Since the FW31J is labelled as a ‘entertainment’ laptop, it comes preloaded with a host of goodies which are probably worth a few hundred pounds. My FW31J was pre loaded with Adobe Acrobat, Windows Vista Home Premium, Adobe Photoshop Elements 6.0 and a host of Sony branded video editing software.  All in all, for the £800 price tag, the laptop comes fully loaded with software.

Hardware*

The laptop comes with the ATI Radeon 3470 HD with 256 MB dedicated to the video card. The laptop also has 4 GB DDR SD2 RAM and a 400 GB hard drive. The processor is a Intel Centrino Dual Core processor running at 2.0 GHz(T6400).

The laptop is equipped with 3 USB ports, a standard VGA out port, an express card slot, a Fire wire port, SD and MemoryStick(with Magicgate) port. The crowning glory of the hardware is without a doubt the external HDMI port that(thanks to the video card) can output videos in Full HD to external displays, effectively eliminating the need for an external Bluray player. The standard networking ports are also available. The FW31J also comes with Wifi and Bluetooth integrated.

Accessories and sundries*

What is truly disappointing in the whole affair is the lack of carry bag. Like most laptop manufacturers in Europe. The Vaio does not come with a carry bag(which cost me an additional £44).

The battery life of the FW31J is far from impressive and watching a English movie on the laptop is a little stretch. Having said that; the exceptionally large screen does not add to the battery life in anyway. The laptop also has tactile buttons instead of the trendier touch buttons. All in all the FW31J is much like any other Vaio when it comes to accessories.

Conclusion*

The FW31J is no Mac Book, it’s probably better for what Sony is asking for the laptop. A  Mac Book with similar specs is worth around £1500 pounds and can offer probably a few more features that one can do without(backlight keyboard and light sensors).

The only disappointing aspect of the laptop is the battery life and the lack of accessories.

Easy to Use
Nov 11, 2009 01:19 PM 5096 Views

This is the best laptop I have come across please used this laptop. it completely has an different enviroment  to work with this laptop whether it is enviroment or software used. The Sony VAIO PCG-F520 (Mobile Pentium III/450, 64MB RAM,

6GB hard drive, 13-inch HPA display; $1, 799 direct) delivers

unique video-editing capabilities. Like all VAIO notebooks

and desktops, it comes with an IEEE-1394 high-speed port

(which Sony dubs the iLink) for connecting a digital video camera,

as well as Sony's fine DVgate software for capturing and managing still shots and video clips.

Our test VAIO's HPA screen wasn't as bright and clear as a TFT display,

but it certainly kept costs down. At 7.4 pounds, the VAIO is the heaviest of the notebooks in this group. In addition, we found its documentation (in print, on disk, and online) somewhat spotty: It lacked in-depth coverage of a number of topics, such as Windows configuration and audio settings. If you don't need video-editing capabilities, other models reviewed here would be more compelling values.

There's a lot to like about the Toshiba Satellite 2675DVD (Mobile Pentium III/ 450, 64MB RAM, 5.7GB hard drive, 12.1-inch TFT display; $1, 600 street), including long battery life (3:23) and a DVD-ROM drive. But the system isn't as good as it could be. The attractive 6.4-pound case houses CD control buttons, a hardware volume dial, and line-out jacks for patching video and stereo audio signals to an external monitor and stereo system. The unit can play audio CDs with the PC off and the lid closed. The Satellite's speakers provided the best sound of the tested consumer notebooks when playing audio CDs, but DVD playback was halting and choppy. Web support is excellent, featuring the Ask IRIS artificial-intelligence diagnostic tool.

VGN- CR 36 G
Oct 23, 2009 02:12 PM 7388 Views

I am using the Sony Vaio, VGN-CR 36G since more than one year now. I would like to tell you this is one of the best laptops I have used so far, compared to HP, Acer, Compaq and IBM which are also used by me and my friends.

First of the all processing speed is way to fast then other laptops. It takes very less time to get booted. I used to experience few problems with vista but once I reinstalled it, I have not experienced any problem. Moreover, its not problem of Vaio, but of Vista.

The laptop is sleek, finish is amazing. I recently saw other laptops which were purchased at the same time, but their body colour is faded giving them very old image, but mine is still shiny like a brand new.I have never experienced any crash problem or software hang-ups. I think it is a machine worth buying.

Sony Vaio NR Series - Good Basic Laptop
Sep 27, 2009 02:52 PM 4715 Views

I have been using Sony VGN NR160E for last two years and is very Satisfied about its performance.

Its a 15”, 1 GB, I.5 GHz Core 2 Duo processor, with Vista Home Premium Installed. Battery used to give 3 Hrs backup initially and recently(after 18 Months) suddenly it has been dropped to one hour backup.

Before reviewing the system let me brief about my usage and knowledge about computers.

I started using computers in 1999 and is familiar with the basic hardware and software of computers.( Reads Digit and CNet on a regular basis and likes to fiddle with the hardware/software). I have a Broadband connection and a USB TV tuner connected to this Laptop.

The system came with preloaded Vista Home premium and a lot of free/trial softwares. In addition to that there were a lot of unnecessary Sony softwares which a normal user never even tries once.

I has just 1GB Ram and that's the one and only bad thing about this system. With the Fully loaded Vista and Sony softwares this 1GB is just not enough. I upgraded it to 2 GB – bought 2 Rams from the outside market as Sony charges are high.

I know many people doesn't like Vista operating system. I was using XP till I bought this and I didn't find anything wrong with Vista.(I if feel switch off the Aero settings it behaves like an updated XP).

In any case having Vista is the only choice left for us as MS doesn't give any other OS right now.

The 15” screen is good. It doesn't give any issues of clarity or brightness etc. I found the key pad also good. As its 15” its slightly heavy. The charger is the old type big one. I don't know about the latest releases.

It has a wireless switch in front and a Sony as well as SD card reader slots. Two USBs on both sides. Mic, Speaker, Fire wire, Serial port on one side and a DVD writer on the other side. Charger and network connections on the backside. The LCD display is clean with out any projecting metallic locks like in HP models.

For a basic User(who generally use mail/MS office/Chatting/minor photo editing/Music/Videos) this is a really good model. Even after 2 years I didn't face any hardware issues.(the system looks neat and good, the Hinges, LCD, keyboard are still as good as it was earlier.

Sony gives a hidden recovery partition on almost all its laptops, but hides this from everybody. We cannot find any detail about this from their website or manuals.

If the OS crashes, all you have to do is to press F10 button while restarting. It gives options to repair the OS and in worst case it replaces everything and gets the system to the factory settings.

Good things:

A simple and beautiful basic laptop. Value for Money. The Sony Quality.

Bad things

Just 1 GB RAM

Loaded with a lot of Unnecessary and useless softwares. We will have to uninstall most of them to enjoy using the system with its available 1GB RAM.

No Blue-tooth

Sony Viao - Let me save you some money
Aug 25, 2009 10:23 AM 9417 Views

I used to be a Sony Fan until I bought the new Sony Viao CR 363. Pardon my language; I think CR stands for "Crap 363".

I purchased this some time on the month of May 2008. I have always used Sony products and the only difference was that these were all out of the UK. Television, Music System and Lap top. The old Laptop was a really good piece however low on memory so I decided to swap my old Viao for a new CR series.

The laptop was fine except for things like it gives you a shock which feels like someone pierced you with a pin in the most sensitive area. Harmless but very annoying. The Laptop I must say has the best screen resolution and Photos’ and Videos are a pleasure to watch, however that was only until the Laptop passed its warranty period.

As soon after the warranty period ended, the laptop started to shut down and it would refuse to operate. The system was shutting down at least 3 times in 10 minutes at the starting stages and went down to as high as 10 times in 5 Mins (No I am not exaggerating).

So I took it to the Sony service centre. I was initially patient and told the guys in my first Visit as to what the problem was and they said it could be a FAN issue. I let them deal with it. I collected the system back after a few days and started to use. 2 days after that the same problem again. So I go to the Service centre and I get the same response. “FAN issue and we will sort that out”.

The saga continued and I had to make 2 more visits; in total of 4 visits in a month just that the last time was very special. I was told that the mother board needed a change. I asked the person at the counter if he was technically qualified to make that statement and the Individual had a blank smile which did not answer my question but conveyed a message.

Having run out of patience and tolerance, I called the corporate office in Bangalore and logged a complaint with the head of product one Mr Anil Kumar. He said he will look into this and will respond to me within an Hour but I insisted that he take a day and get back to me with all the details. Its 6 days with a weekend in between and Mr Anil has not bothered to call me back. Now I know from where the Service ethos seem to originate. It was somewhere round this time that I was speaking to my Brother in law and he said that he had the same problem and guess what the Model.... was :-) You guessed it

I am normally not a guy who takes defeat so easily. Like some great Indian said” Give up on a problem only after you are sure that you have tried the Indian way”. I banged the Laptop on the table not too hard but hard enough to get it working I guess. It 2 Hours now and the system is yet to shut down. May be this needs to also go into the one of the remedies when you Sony Viao shuts down without warning. All Jokes apart Guys!! You want to buy a Sony Viao after this: You must be really wealthy.

AVOID THIS PRODUCT
Aug 17, 2009 07:52 PM 4443 Views

I bought this Laptop in 2007 and by 2009 it has crashed completely. On speaking to the service center Sony did try to help a troubleshooting over the phone, but it did not work.

Then, the Sony Service Center informed that the cost to repair / replace is approx INR 20000/- Imagine, buying a laptop for 62000 and in 2 years paying another 20000! The physical visit experience to their service center was no good either.

The receptionist (sure was qualified) tells you that the mother board is gone and the display is gone. In my state of shock, I had to go back to the Head Office and again got re-directed to the same service center and this time, was recommended to drop of the laptop for a evaluation and progress it further. Guess, they need to improve even their un-friendly customer service. Imagine travelling back and forth for one one thing.

Irecently bought a Sony Vaio, and was very excited. It was one of my fav. Laptops. Butsoon the screen got cracked. I was totally shocked that who can a Sony product belike this. Bad product.

Iwant to request Sony Vaio to repair my laptop LCD screen has it a cracked injust 6 months of purchase. I really want Sony to help me with this.

I am really surprised who the screen could crack. I even took the machine tothe sony service station. After inspection they said – we can not help. I meanmy machine is under warranty, so please replace the screen. Ihave been using Sony products, but the laptop has been a real disappointment

Amazing Experience
Jun 25, 2009 06:48 PM 7314 Views

I had a very good experience with my VAIO CR363 and Sony Service Center, which I would like to share with you..

I was using my laptop since last one year, and I did not face any problem at all.. but unfortunately last week I spill water on my laptop... after that it was not booting at all..

I thought I must have to spent around 10-15K for a mother board replacement atleast.. I took my VAIO to service center, as it was out of warranty, so they told me 1000/- service charges and three days time either to fix it or to diagnose problem.

On second day I called to check the status (as I didnt get any call for parts replacement, which I thought must be as it was damaged by water). But I got to know that my laptop is ready, and they will inform me as soon as it will return from factory. On next day, I went to collect it. I found it was working fine, they just did some general hardware servicing and removed water traces.

AND THE BEST THING WAS WHAT ALL I PAID FOR THIS SERVICE IS JUST 276/-, WHICH IS LESSER THAN ANY UNAUTHORIZED SERVICING.

AMAZING SERVICE, HATS OFF TO SONY....

But ya one of screw is not there on my laptop. :P, they should take care of this...

Never go for it
Jun 18, 2009 05:38 PM 5063 Views

I decided to go for a laptop around 2 years ago. 1st self owned laptop. Received demos from almost all the companies. Accidentally visited a sony showroom in Koramangala. The show room is an excellent one with all the features. The sales guy is highly co-operative informed all the features of the laptop. I was impressed and finally zeroed it on SONY VAIO VGN C-25G/B.

I bought a black model VGN C-25 G/B. I was quite impressed about it's keyboard. A perfect fit keyboard for our finger settings. Back up of the battrery is also quite good. We received aound 2 hours 30 mins (Even though it was proposed as 3 Hours) on it's test run. 1 GB RAM was also quite impressive as it was highest amout of RAM available in a single slot at that time.

I was fantasining about the laptop being proud to have a SONY one. Which could easily be compared with an Apple one. However, very soon my day dream ended as the color started fading. I went to the customer care center and they claimed that it's due to poor maintenance system. Being surprised I asked my colleague who also bought a sony one.

After lot of arguments the customer care took it and changed the panel. After few days it's observed that some of the keys are not working properly and the number is increasing. We went together and complained again and they changed it. After few days we noticed that the laptops battery back up is getting reduced day by day and within a span of 8 months of purchasing it started giving a back up of around 1 hour. We again ran and they replaced it.

During an official visit to US, I was out of India for a long time. and during that period I observed that 1 white line is appearing in the LCD monitor. within a span of another month another line appeared just below it and it's permanent one. I called the SONY service center and they said, they have to visit it 1st. When I returned back in India, the warranty period was over and I was asked a hefty amount money. Instead, it's better to buy a new one. Rs.67, 500/- gone in vain within 1 year. The present situation, 1. Many keys of the keyboard stopped working2. DVD + RW drive cant read even a CD3. Battery back up is 10-15 mins4. 3 permanent white line in the LCD monitor.5. Color is faded again6. Mouse is not working properly7. Hard disk sounds like a bullock cart

This is the kind of business SONY is doing. I would recommend not going for SONY-VAIO ever.

Vaio CR is great
May 30, 2009 07:43 PM 6892 Views

Well, I bought a sony vaio VGN CR 36 G/B nearly a year ago. It's simply great and powerful. I have to work a lot over the internet and there were times when my lappy was infested with loads of viruses and malwares. But thanks to the recovery options of this machine. I formatted my system nearly 15 times so far. I wanna ask you guys if there is any serious problem if I format my laptop within few days interval. Pls reply my query. Anyone.

After all, I'd like to say that Vaio CR 36 G/B is the best of the best notebooks I've used so far. But I think the hard disk is pretty noisy and the sound ain't loud either. The AC adapter becomes hot in no time and also the SD card slots are open unlike other brands like Acer, where there are fake SD cards to cover the slots when not in use.

SonyVaioFZ25GN brillian on eyes terrible on POCKET
Apr 30, 2009 01:51 PM 4584 Views

I had this SONY Vaio FZ25GN which I bought from SONY outlet one year back. Cost me around 70K rupees. The laptop's performance was excellent till 1year after exactly after 2months after the warranty period was over it started showing me different kinds of problems.

Sony laptops in anycase suffer from a Over Heating problem but this time the inbuilt graphics card got corrupted.

Initially I took the laptop to a Sony Service centre suspecting with the above problem but to my dismay the laptop after being retained with them for more than 3weeks and then returned with only doing a OS recovery. This after my constant calling up did not yield any result as these guys never answer phone calls and I had to personally go to the service centre myself.

The laptop was handed over to me saying that there is no charge in the cell and I wont be able to verify the laptop as there is no current available in the service centre. After taking the laptop home I found the same problem occuring i.e. overheating and vertical lines appearing on the screen and the laptop constantly restarting.

I then decided to write an email to their asia pacific headquater with the details, which resulted in the service centre calling me up. Now they have identified that the graphics is faulted and for which the complete mother board has to be replaced which costs around 25K. This has been one experience for me , after buying a Sony Vaio for 70K now I stand with repairing it with another 25K just after 1year. I have decided to never buy a SONY product anymore and keep away from them. They are no only too costly but value for money is horrible.

A Powerfully Fashionable Notebook
Mar 19, 2009 12:02 AM 7064 Views

I was quite bored with my Acer Notebook and wanted a new one as I am a very tech savvy person and the Vaio ads on the TV really tempted me to get myself one.Luckily it was the Christmas season and I bought an NR series Notebook on sale.

What makes the NR series authentically distinctive for Sony is that the starting price is less than$800 . making the NR the lowest-priced notebook the company has ever fashioned.

Following are the specs for my lappy:

Screen: 15.4-inch screen WXGA(1280 x 800) with XBRITE-ECO(glossy finish)

Processor: 1.5GHz Intel Core 2 Duo T5250Hard Drive: 160 GB hard drive(SATA, 5400RPM)

Memory: 1GB RAM(PC5300, 667 MHz, DDR2 SD RAM, 2 x 512 MB) - 4GB max memory

On the whole, the first impression that I had when I looked atthe NR series is that this notebook was designed to have a plush look and feelyet be reasonably priced. From the diversity of available colors to thefabric-like textured LCD cover and palm rests the NR is a uncomplicated yetarresting design. The"granite" silver version looks like metal at adistance but upon closer assessment it's clear that the notebook exterior ismade of chunky plastics.

The dual core processors that come with the VAIO NR-series offer more than sufficient performance for average use.Yes, I think that's more than enough. The 3DMark06 benchmarks are low.

wPrime is a program that forces the processor to do recursive mathematical calculations, the advantage of this program is that it is multi-threaded and can use both processor cores at once, thereby giving more accurate benchmarking measurements than Super Pi.

The keyboard on the VAIO NR is probably just normal fanfare for Sony notebooks, but it was one of the most distinctive features of this notebook when I first opened it.The keys are well mitigated and responsive to light touch.

The touchpad is nice and big with a very usable and responsive surface. The mouse buttons have a nice size, the buttons have noisy clicks.which I didn't like.

It has stereo sound via speakers located above the keyboard. With the speakers located on the top of the interior in this way they tend to direct the sound at you and make for a surprisingly enjoyable listening experience.

The VAIO NR runs extremely quiet with the 1.5GHz Core 2 Duo processor. The bottom side gets a bit warm, but temperatures remained comfortable enough to keep the NR on the lap. Temperatures are likely kept within acceptable limits thanks to a rather large heat sink visible through the vent on the side of the NR. Below are images with the temperatures listed in degrees Fahrenheit.

Sony claims the battery life of the standard 6-cell battery at 2.5-4.5 hours of use depending on how you use the notebook. During my test I obtained3 hours and 2 minutes of battery life using the notebook at half screen brightness, wireless on, and a mixture of web browsing and idling.Clearly you would need to have the screen brightness turned even lower and do little more than let the notebook idle if you want to obtain the full 4.5 hours that Sony claims.

The Sony VAIO NRis a stylish, affordable notebook with a solid set of features that is sure to be appealing to students like me or anyone looking for an attractive notebook on a budget. It features enough performance and build quality to keep most users happy.

I bought this Laptop from Overseas as I always believed that the BRAND SONY has a Brand Value in terms o Product Quality and Service Excellence. But I was wrong.

Once while using the Laptop, it got heated up pretty badly and then the screen went off showing a message " Operating Device not found".. I called for the Sony Vaio service centre and they did NOTHING to help me recover the data. MORE OVER They recommended me to a Local vendor whom they think would be capable of recovering the Data.

I NOW HAVE A OPENED HARD DISK WITH ABSOLUTELY NO DATA RECOVERY DONE. The saddest part is that MY MOST VALUABLE DOCUMENTS could not be recovered. I would have been atleast happy if SONY service centre could offer me some support and guidance. I never THOUGHT SONY will just leave you in the STREETS if you have a Genuine problem EVEN if it is becoz of PRODUCT deficiency.VERY VERY VERY VERY DIS-APPOINTED.
