Good laptop

Alienware is one of the strongest global brands of gaming PCs, with a range that now stretches to multiple mobile and desktop form factors. While many gaming PCs come in giant towers, the M17X packs a top-of-the-line CPU and mid-range graphics into a desktop chassis that’s not much bigger than a current-generation console.

It has 16GB of DDR4 memory, running at 2, 133MHz. There’s a 256GB Samsung PCI Express SSD, plugged directly into the motherboard’s M.2 slot. PCI Express SSDs come in all shapes and sizes, offering wildly different performance figures. Still it is the best performance Desktop CPUin terms of graphics and gaming performance.

Gaming heaven....

This time around, the Alienware 17 ( $2, 299 as configured, starting at $1, 499) has Nvidia's GeForce GTX 980M GPU under the hood, giving the system a serious graphics boost.

The best thing about the Alienware 17 ( besides the specs and configurable lighting) is its 17-inch 1080p display.

This features make the laptop totally a gaming one, the finishing of the laptop is also breath taking.

Is it really CHEAP
Nov 07, 2015 12:59 AM 2474 Views

It is Cheap in it mindset not in its cost it will cost you around 1.5 lakh and above that if you want an alienware os you have to pay 1 lakh(approx) are they crazy are they selling laptop or nano.

nano is more spacious and durable then laptop what make it more expensive is the brand.

DELL is the company behind which increased it rate from manufacturing cost around 50000rs cost you for more than 1 lakh 50 thousand.

It is the same thing like you are drinking a black carbonated water of rs 2 for rs 10. because it have a brand pepsi.

Same way if you go out and assemble all the components available in alienware it will not even cost you 1 lakh I guarantee.

Only because it has name it has good look and feel, its prize is in lakhs.

A big NO to this.

The best gaming device
Sep 28, 2015 09:36 AM 2623 Views (via Mobile)

If gaming is your passion and portability is what you need,  the this device suits perfectly for you. This device act as a super computer.  It's fast,  the graphics is excellent,  processing speed everything is perfect. Hardware is real good.  It's solid and strong from outside,  it's a bit heavy, but it's worth.  My system runs in a Windows 10 OS which is newly updated. No lags till now.

All games run perfectly fine and fast. The after sales support can be a little more better,  cause most of the Dell employees don't know how to deal with it.

A serious player in the mobile market, the gaming is not much. This ASUS, MSI and trendsetter - Dell - with its series of laptops Alienware. In fact, only those manufacturers have a complete range of powerful laptops that can run the most demanding games. And they include not only the line of huge and heavy model with a diagonal of 17 inches or more, and smaller, until tiny 11 -inch

In this time of testing was sredeneformatny gaming laptops with screens 14 inches. The size of a modest but impressive stuffing: quad-core Intel Core i7-2670QM, 8 GB of RAM and a GeForce GT555M video with NVIDIA 3 GB of onboard memory . With such " stuffing " it is possible to take part in any battles, without being tied to the table, because the mass Alienware M14x is not so great - only 2.8 kg

Best gaming laptop

The Dell Alienware 14(AW14781TB2A1) has been designed for professional gamers who are ready to spend money in exchange for uncompromising performance. It boasts of a stunning display and high quality speakers but just like other Alienware laptops, sports a hefty outfit.

My dad gifted me this laptop, it is awesome having my first gaming laptop.Although it is a bit costly but if you want to buy a gaming laptop then it is best.

Its running on windows 8.1, core i-7 4th gen, 2.5 GHz, 8 GB RAM, 2 GB Graphics card(NVIDIA), 1 TB HDD.Screen is 14 inch with 1080p display.Only 1 breakdown of laptop is its battery, it works only 3 hours by continuously gaming.

Don't Buy It
Jun 17, 2015 12:52 PM 2553 Views

I had been doing savings for purchasing the alienware. So after a long time I had bought this. Well this comes with a good feature. But it fails fast.

And also if any of the things in the Notebook goes wrong you have to pay a lot. My Notebook has gone out of warranty and I got my RAM crashed. Well it was 8 GB of RAM and I asked for the price of the RAM it was too High. The Notebook is good but it is too expensive. The price of a new piece is more than 1.2 lac. And all my sacrifices for this notebook meant nothing. If you had bought this. After a huge sacrifice. Then later you have to give more sacrifices.

I don't complain about the notebook. But I complain about the cost. Never have it. You can better have 3 small laptops in same price. Also the battery life of this laptop is 3 hour from the company. But later the battery just failed. This battery only works up to 1 year until u are in a warranty periods. And the warranty periods of the battery is not extensible

If you are looking for something home basic use and more towards game than this laptop is perfect for you.(Please don’t but for your work place). Speakers, processor, speed, high definition screen makes worth buying this laptop.

Disgusting customer service by DELL
Mar 25, 2015 08:24 PM 5186 Views

Facing the worst kind of customer support from DELL. This is the mail I had to write to them after my ALIENWARE lied there in a not-working condition over a month and they fooled me around with their flowery service promises.

"Hello,

I am Manabendra Choudhury . For the past one month I have been known as  with the nick name of  " Service Tag: HLCMYZ1 "  . I was generally considered a smart person among friends, peers and family. But that was before I bought a Dell Alienware for nearly Rs.2, 00, 000/- . Then came my new name  and with it the realization that how I am the most foolish person alive. As a feel-good factor I have multiple reasons for being considered so foolish . a. To choose Dell as a brand over so many others even after being advised against it by many. b. To wait for a month patiently like an ALIEN before deciding to write this mail.

This is how I spent a fortune to transform myself from being smart to the stupidest person alive:

I started experiencing a technical malfunction which did not allow me to proceed with any kind of work on 23rd Feb, 2015.When even system restore did not work, I called the Tech Support the very first time to register a complaint and they took remote access of the system and performed a check and carried out a few troubleshooting steps. I was also suggested to restore the system, which I had already done, however, complied with their request. They called me back again to check if that corrected the problem and then, they deleted my user profile to check if it was due to a faulty user account. It did not work as expected and then, they wanted me to re-install the operating system from the CD that came with the system. I was surprised to hear that because they should have known that the system package did not contain any such CD. Anyway, they then suggested that an Operating System Kit would be shipped to me and they would call again so that they can assist me re-installing the OS from the CD. I also got a call after that, on 10th March 2015 if I remember the date correctly, from a person confirming that he was calling from Kolkata(I should have saved his number but it is okay I can always request my cell phone service provider for a call list and they would be more than happy to comply unlike DELL) and that he received a call from Dell to ship the said OS Kit to me. He informed me that the Kit would be shipped by 14th March 2015(that was a shock because he needed 4 long days to ship it) and I should receive it latest by 17th March 2015. While the Dell guys continue to call me to find out if I had received the CD Kit or not, none could confirm the name of the shipper or any consignment number. I kept on repeatedly ask them to give me the name of the shipper and the tracking number and my request was ignored every single time. Anyway, the real shock was, yesterday evening around 7:20 pm I got a call from a local resource person(9085045821) who called me and asked if I had registered any complaint for a Dell product. Upon my confirmation, he told me that he would be coming to pick up a faulty hard drive. I was in total disbelief. I tried to explain that I was expecting an OS CD Kit and not someone coming down to pick up a hard drive. Hearing this, he hung up. When I called him again this evening, he first corrected himself and apologized and then, told me that he got a message from DELL that the monitor was not working and he was asked by DELL to collect the faulty monitor.

You at your end might be having a hearty laugh reading about this pathetically hilarious plight I find myself in. To add salt to the wound I read a mail from Mr. Raghavendra Medikeri from your Care Team( details in trail mail) that "Care team does not have ownership on sold/technical issues.".  Is that the way you respond to a query forwarded on behalf of a troubled customer because it's not your department? Is this the kind of PREMIUM SUPPORT  you dish out to your foolish'not-at-all-premium' customers after promising them to be in the Premium Class? I wonder what kind of treatment I would have received if I had bought a 50k laptop! I am being treated like a piece of dirt and this ALIEN like behavior is totally unacceptable. I did not spend a fortune from my hard earned money to spend a silent relationship for over a month with a laptop that doesn't work. You may not prioritize work but I do and when I had to borrow a laptop for my work I became a subject of ridicule. "There goes the guy who needs to borrow a laptop after buying one of the most expensive laptops available! "   Vendors and small outlets at Chandni Chowk in Delhi deliver better service than Your High Profile Company! I suggest you a new punch-line for your top of the line products,

DELL- makes your life go to HELL! - dissatisfaction guaranteed!

or perhaps:

DELL - The power to do nothing! I was wondering if you train your people to be so unprofessional? Do you also specifically train them to not respond to mails via the reply option so that the customer has difficulty in having all the communication in one block when he finally loses all hope from your award winning support services? Never mind, as I already mentioned I am the stupidest person alive, I went a step further to get all the required screenshots from all the mails and other details whichever may be applicable. I have also spent time to attach them for your esteemed reference. I also tried wondering who was more miserable, the retailer here who sold me the laptop or the PREMIUM SERVICES provided by DELL. I asked a knowledgeable friend here and his reply was motivating, He said " A rotten tomato and a Rotten egg both make me puke, I rather don't waste time caring to know which is worse " . I was highly inclined to put this up on facebook and a number of other places which my friends would have loved to share and re-share till a huge number of people became more knowledgeable about DELL PREMIUM SUPPORT.  I was also advised by the same knowledgeable friend who uses a MACBOOK PRO and isn't as foolish as me to file a case in the consumer forum and perhaps also a legal suit demanding a compensation for all the loss that I have had to bear due to my as-good-as-dead Alienware laptop. He also said he could guide me with the exact procedures to do so. But then I don't want to be repeating the name of DELL again and again as it gives me a headache. Just give me back the money I paid and relieve me from this misery. I want to be smart again. You may not realize it, but living life like a fool is extremely demotivating.

I am not ready to wait for any installation disc any longer. A company earns the trust of a customer. In this case however instead of earning my trust Dell has managed to earn my Disgust. This disgust doesn't allow me to keep your disgusting machine awaiting your even more disgusting service any longer in my vicinity .In the words of your employee Mr. Raghavendra Medikeri, I don't have ownership of your problems.  I have left the laptop at the shameless retailer's store(who continues trying to pacify me with his uninspiring smile) because I would have either broken it down or sent it on a trip on the garbage truck. Please don't care to replace it or give it back to me as I will only be breaking it at sight and send it back to you as a damage warranty claim. I plead you to have pity on me and forgive my foolishness to rely on your services and return me back the money so that I can buy a laptop that atleast works and will be serviced on priority in case it malfunctions. May the Lord God Bless you for this act of benevolence. Please Relieve me of this miserable association with DELL. I hope I could write "Thanking you, Regards" but pardon me for being unable to do so. Just couldn't fake it.

Your Disgusted Customer,

Manabendra Choudhury,

Alienware is back with a bang - with a threefold attack on the PC gaming arena.

Specifications

The combination of the latest generation Intel CPU technology and the latest graphics cards makes the Alienware M17x a colossal gaming machine that is more than capable of smashing through the latest blockbuster titles such as Diablo III, Batman: Arkham City and Sniper Elite V2.

Combine this with a seriously powerful GPU punch courtesy of a 2GB GDDR5 NVIDIA® GeForce® GTX 680M configuration and you're looking at a top-end gaming machine more than worthy of its hefty price tag. There's also Intel HD 4000 graphics as part of the Ivy Bridge package, meaning DirectX 11 support.

The impressive spec sheet doesn't end there, however. You can select up to 32GB of RAM. The 17.3-inch display is of the Full HD 1080p variety and there's a 2.1 megapixel webcam. It also has a slot-loading optical drive on the side.

You might think that all of this rugged power may result in an explosion of noise, fan activity and a heat overload but, as with previous Alienware notebooks, this is not that case, thanks to its large heat sinks and dual rear exhausts that provide dedicated cooling for all threads and cores of both the CPU and GPU.

If you've not laid eyes on one of Alienware's gaming rigs before, prepare your peepers for an assault of colour and gare. The Alienware M17x certainly doesn't shy away from extravagance with its unique sci-fi-esque casing and its (in)famous AlienFX lighting system that enables you to set the back-light colors for the keys, speaker grills, buttons, ports and logos.

If you want a nice, calming, cool blue effect then you can have it. Equally, if you want your Alienware M17x flashing bright red neon lights at you continuously, like a panicking air traffic control warning system, then that's an option too. With 512 trillion distinct lighting combinations, we'll stop with specific examples now.

And you'll not be found wanting when it comes to connectivity and port-based fun. As well as Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 4.0, you've also got access to four USB 3.0 ports, an HDMI 1.4 port, a mini-DisplayPort, Ethernet action, an SD card reader, a VGA socket, optical digital output, separate headphone and microphone jacks, and a dedicated headset output. It leaves no boxes unticked.

Travel-friendly the Alienware M17x is not, however, despite the improved battery life on previous generations of 133 minutes under stress. You'll not only need a big bag to slide the M17x into, since it measures a chunky 410 x 304 x 44.5mm, you'll also need a strong back to handle its 4.4kg weight.

Performance

As you'd expect with the hardcore engine room, the Alienware M17x had little or no trouble dealing with any task that you throw its way. HD video was handled with a buttery smoothness, recent games titles caused it no signs of despair, and high-resolution photo editing was done with hardly any fuss.

Most people who decide to splash their hard earned pennies on the Alienware M17x will be doing so with some hardcore gaming sessions in mind. And those buyers won't be disappointed, since it has no issues with the top settings of graphically demanding titles and you'll comfortably get 60fps+ if you turn things down just a little.

There's also a plethora of on-board configuration settings at your disposal, including the AlienAdrenaline feature that enables you to customize your M17x's software behavior when certain games are running; AlienTouch, which gives you complete control over the track pad's sensitivity and means less annoying accidental movements; and AlienFusion for souping up the performance levels (or indeed, toning them down) at the touch of a button.

You can configure the hard drive setup on your own Alienware pretty much any way that you choose, with an array of RAID and high-speed mSATA caching configurations available.

The audio quality of the Alienware M17x is fantastic, thanks to the Creative Sound Blaster THX 7.1 setup and the stereo speakers designed by audio specialist Klipsch. There are a number of pre-set equalization installed for you to get the most out of this setup - we particularly liked the Crystalizer mode.

The keyboard keys, whatever color you choose to have emitted from them, are soft to touch with a comforting rubber-like bounce that makes them not only great for gaming but also for more day-to-day tasks such as browsing the web, tapping out an email or knocking up a quick spreadsheet.

The track pad, which is offset just to the left of center, also has a smooth rubberized finish, and you'll not hear a peep from either of its buttons, such is the soft travel that is provided.

Verdict

If you've been waiting for a next-gen Intel Core gaming machine to land then there's really no need to hang around any longer. The Alienware M17x is a significant improvement on what was already a brilliant machine.

The Ivy Bridge CPU boosts performance to almost unseen-before benchmark scores, and the latest Nvidia and AMD graphics tech packed in means that you'll have no hassle when it comes to playing the latest must-have games.

Its bulky frame and ostentatious exterior may make the M17x a specialist laptop but, within the 17-inch gaming notebook market, when it comes to the functions that it specializes in there are few, if any, rivals that come close.

What You will Like

The Alienware M17x's gaudy chassis screams high-tech performance, and you won't be disappointed when you fire it up and get it purring.

It handles HD media and high-end gaming with aplomb, and the build quality is a reassuring reminder of the impressive tech that's hidden deep within the rugged chassis.

It's difficult to get lost in a laptop like you can with a big screen TV, but the Alienware M17x manages to completely absorb you using a combo of its lightning-fast, vibrant HD display and the incredibly loud surround sound setup.

What You will Dislike

Although falling into the category of a mobile PC just by virtue of being a laptop, you wouldn't want to be carrying the Alienware M17x around with you for a long period of time. Tipping the scales at a shade over 4.4kg and measuring almost 5cm at its thickest point, it would be the equivalent of lugging around four Ultrabooks with you, or seven iPads.

Battery life still isn't great, despite the Ivy Bridge update - although you're likely to want to be near a mains socket when using the Alienware M17x, anyway.

Final verdict

Despite its chunky frame and weighty anatomy, the Alienware M17x is the perfect gaming machine and While not cheap, its price tag is certainly comparable to its main rivals, such as the Ivy Bridge-packing MSI GT70, and buyers will be investing in one of the best laptop gaming experiences.
