When the TABLET PC and software was first introduced by Microsoft I was excited by the concept, because now computers come closer to adapting to the way I work rather than making me adapt to the way the computer requires.
My goal was to wait for the second generation of software and hardware. It was a long time in coming. The MS Tablet XP 2005 software was introduced and I saw an ad for the AVERATEC C3500 at a price right around $1,000 with rebate, so I bought the package.
I have been extremely disappointed with the AVERATEC C3500. The main problem is the pen/screen interaction. Mostly the pen is too ''hot.'' By that, I mean that as the pen is moving over the screen, but not touching it, it causes the same reaction one would get if one were to be repeatedly pressing the left mouse button as the cursor moves across the screen. Programs open and close, items change state, etc. I have downloaded all of the patches and updates from AVERATEC, but have seen no improvement in performance. I even wiped the hard drive clean, and re-loaded the operating system with all of the updates and patches from AVERATEC and Microsoft.
This has caused me to abandon the pen, and use the computer as a conventional laptop. (I already have a laptop that works better.) Even when using the AVERATEC C3500 as a conventional laptop, the keys stick or do not work without being struck several times, especially the space bar.
In addition to this, the screen flickers when in the tablet position frequently, and when in the laptop position, occasionally.
This is my first AVERATEC product, and based on this lack of performance, I will not buy another AVERATEC product.
However, I am sold on the TABLET PC concept, and will buy one from a more recognized brand, hoping that it works as it is supposed to. The ads for the GATEWAY TABLET have caught my attention, and I will explore this tablet PC more. I would like to take one for a test drive before buying, because I am skittish after this bad experience.
Please tell me if you have had a different experience with a Tablet PC. I am anxious to hear a success story.
