Well, my Mom, a teacher-doctor by profession, wanted a new laptop to replace her old and rather bulkier one. She was looking for something light in weight, sleek and easy to carry, alongwith a good and long battery backup so that she could carry it in her purse, without the cord or other stuff.
After months of ‘research’, she still couldn’t decide on which lappie to buy and told me about her dilemma when I came home during the vacations. I searched far and wide and eventually settled on the Asus EeeBook X205TA Notebook. It fit my mother’s needs perfectly. At just 980 grams, it is one of the lightest laptops out there. The 11.49 inch screen helps the laptop maintain a small size. The battery backup is rated pretty good too, at 12 hours, and should easily last a day.
What you get in the box:
The notebook.
A charging cable.
Documentation- A User Guide, A Quick Start Guide and the key for Office 365 activation.
The laptop comes equipped with 32 GB internal storage, alongwith 2 GB of RAM. Windows 8.1 is pre-installed alongwith 1-year subscription of Microsoft Office 365. A 4th Gen Atom Quad Core processor is present under the hood, which is clocked at 1.33 Ghz. The laptop also comes with 1-year warranty, almost a standard these days.
One of the major dilemmas I faced was choosing the color of the laptop itself. As she would be using it for taking classes in her college, it had to look formal. The red and golden colors seemed too flashy while neither me, nor my Mom is a huge fan of white on our gadgets, as the color seems to fade off quite soon. I opted for the blue colored one, as it seemed to be the next best choice(and was also the only other color available).
On the connectivity front, the laptop is equipped with 2 USB 2.0 slots, 1 Micro HDMI, 1 3.5mm
jack land also a card reader. I quipped the laptop with a 64 GB memory card, and it should suffice all my Mom's storage needs, considering this is a strictly'business' laptop.
I used it as my daily driver for a few days and felt that the laptop provided pretty good usage, honestly much above my initial expectations. Browsing the Internet was pretty smooth, and so was music and video playback. The battery backup lived upto its claims and gave me a usage period of almost 11 hours after the initial charge. The laptop also doesn't take much time to juice back up. The chiclet keyboard did feel a little small and I felt a tad bit constrained while typing on it.
All in all, both me and Mom are pretty impressed with the laptop. The light-weight and small size make it easier to carry around with you. If you need a laptop for taking your classes, occasional web-browsing and other office related work, this is definitely the laptop to get!
