Acer Laptop Support Shameful
Mar 28, 2006 10:32 AM 7475 Views

Acer's lack of support on my new Ferrari 4005 laptop, on which we then paid I think $500 for next day service at our office, is breathtaking. I have waited for more than a month for a new motherboard and still even the promised date is a number of days away.

They don't even express regrets for the obvious inconvenience which their inadequacies must necessarily cause to our clients.

Nor do they even pretend to accept our complaints, eg there is no person whose job it is to know of a customer complaint. They just don't care how unhappy we are or how much of a problem this is.

We will make sure we never buy another Acer product, it has hurt our business too much and just generally made life v difficult. Real cost of Acer laptop?, far too much. We regret this purchase a great deal.

ACER Warranty is fake
Mar 13, 2006 03:13 PM 7400 Views

I purchased ACER tablet and ACER Projector because of cost effectiveness and style. What a waste of money!. Both broke down within a year, and the best part was they kept it until the warranty was finished and then tried to charge me for it. and I am not talking just a short time. they have been giving me excuses of why its not ready for 3 Months.

Even over the Phone, the ACER rep told me that it will take longer (more than 6 weeks) if I insisted to have it repaired under warranty, BUT IF I PAID, it could be done in a week. I thought a Warranty was supposed to be ''A Warranty'', not some excuse to get more money.

Every time I would call ACER, they told me the people in charge were in a meeting, and they would call me back – they never called back.

Bottom line: ACER Warranty is fake. and ACER service people are just out to make an extra buck at YOUR expense.

Relable PC
Feb 07, 2006 12:21 PM 6061 Views

I decided to start this year with some kind of “Intelligent Investment”. Well, how better than buying a PC. As an instructional designer I do not need a high profile system, but I am really crazy about games. As I had used AMD before as was very happy with its performance, I started hunting one. After weighing several available options, decided to buy an ACER ASPIRE V4324 for Rs.26000. The configuration is as follows Processor: AMD Athlon 64 bit 3200+ Chipset: SIS RAM: 256 MB P3200 DDR 400 MHz Drives: DVD-CDRW, 3.5 Floppy LAN: Integrated 10/100 NIC Video Card: 64 mb, Nvidia Monitor: 17” Modem: 56 kbps Data/Fax/Modem card Speakers: Creative SBS 2.1 The first thing that I did was I tested its “ Ultimate Gaming PC” claim. NFS Most Wanted took time to load but then, it went super smoothly. The Nvidia graphics card also did its job properly. Graphic design softwares I use are Photoshop, Corel, Flash and such. They work much better than Intel. No idea about other softwares as I haven’t used them. The preloaded softwares that come with the PC are also useful to some extent. V4324 comes with Creative 2,1 speakers. With preloaded Vinyl Deck, the sound delivery is pretty good if not awesome. One thing that you miss here is a treble amplifier in the speaker but the software in the system does it for you. As I played a DVD and a CD, I couldn’t find much of difference. After playing a Movie, the CD came out of the drive really hot. The floppy drive makes noise every time I start up or shut down, and sometimes, without any reason. The display of the monitor is ok but the plastic used is really cheap. Only when you see the Acer logo you realize that it is a branded one. On the other hand, the CPU is well built with a silver finish. The keyboard and mouse are pretty good. With the PC I received 100hrs of Internet free. To my surprise, the validity of the coupon I got had expired long back. The Acer guy gave me some sort of holiday package offer, which was of little use to me. Anyways I am happy as the PC is doing well.

Inspire to own Aspire
May 26, 2005 05:29 PM 14309 Views

Dear All

I have been waiting for long and finally found it is time to fulfill my long term wish to buy a decent laptop in an affordable price. When I saw the advertisement in the local newspaper Acer selling laptops under 30K, I rushed to the shop to have first glimpse. The laptop looked on first appearance too good to be true. I would probably give my ratings under followings;

Price:

Well price first as I waited so long for price to come down. Have you ever heard the quote ''Read between the lines''. Well if you see Acer Adv don't forget to look for that * appended with the price 29,990. The actual cost of the laptop is 29,990 + 3000 (Carry Bag) + 1.2% Tax (If you pay by credit card) And you have no option of dropping the carry bag. So you get it in 32,990+. I think Acer could have been more open about the price. Well I give only 3s for this.

Looks:

For looks I would give 4 *s. Well folks can't get a better look for the money you have to pay. However they could come with some more color options. Currently only steel gray and black combination is available, however I must confess I would had probably taken only this as it looks beautiful. Well beauty lies in the eye of beholder

Configuration:

The configuration reads;

Mobile AMD Sempron™ processor 2800+(1.6 GHz)

Chipset : SiSM760GX

Acer InviLink™ IEEE 802.11b/g (Transfer rate 54Mbps)

256MB DDR-RAM (Max 2GB)

40 GB HDD ATA-100

Weight 2.8kg.

DVD/CD-RW Combo drive

56K Fax/Modem, 10/100Mbps LAN

15.4” WXGA TFT LCD(1280x800 pixel) Integrated 3D AGP graphics with up to 64 MB

Li-Ion Battery (Avg 1.5 hrs. battery life)

Acer SignalUp wireless technology support

Linpus Linux BE

1 year warranty (International)

Processor:

Processor works fine I am using the same for all the general purpose computing(Includes listening to music, Surfing, Documentation, Picture editing etc...). And the processor in its class is rated better than Celeron. The processor clocks 1.6 GHz (Those who are familiar with Intel terms). I would give 4 * for this.

Storage: It has a 40 GB HDD ( I wish it were atleast 60 though). A DVD Combo drive (24 X). Well this area I am not very happy I wanted DVD writer too. But am I turning too greedy!!!. But can't help, but If acer could provide 60-80 GB HDD and a DVD writer with the same price tag , I would had loved it. Same about DD RAM only 256 MB , I wish it were 512 MB. So guys only 3*s

IEEE Ports:

Do you have handycam???? then may be you will curse Acer for not providing the IEEE1394 port on board for this model. Even though the body has an option for the port it is blocked. When I asked the dealer can it be opened and iEEE1394 port can be added he said no!! the motherboard doesn't accept this!!!! Phew don't worry if you are ready to spend another 1500/- bucks you can buy PCMCIA Type II card and get what you want. Here I can only give 2 *s. I had to spend another 1600/- bucks to get one so can't help...

Usage:

Well usage is pretty much ok. The biggest problem it has that it HEATS up a lot... but then are not AMD processors notorious for that. Acer can't help much... So only 3*s

Battery Life:

Are you more of on the road kind of guy and need laptop during your flight from Bangalore to Delhi (or for that matter Bangalore to Sanfrancisco) dude you will hate acer 3002. Call your airlines to check if they have on-board socket for battery charger if no well beter check-in your laptop as you can't use it. Just one hour battery life (Even though spec says 1:30 minutes). well I am too gracious to give 2 *s is Acer listening ???????

TFT Display:

I wish it could had been much sharper. Not too good but managable. So guys only 3 *s

Customer Support:

Well I wanted IEEE 1394 PCMC Type II card. Acer India doesn't have it!!!!. The dealer asked me that he will give me a call in 2 days and arrange 1 for me. He never called almost a month I bought it. I had to buy it from outside. Well first impression is the last so for me it was bad!!!!! So no *s

Well I hope I have covered some important aspects of this model. Being this my first review and very new to MS , I hope you will be kind enough to ignore any mistakes? Well till I write more see ya, Cheers, GudduJee (Hey Hey ofcourse it is not my real name !!!!!)
