How to choose a Internet Service Provider (ISP)?

Overview

Internet Service Provider, an ISP is a company that provides Internet access and other web services to its customers or subscribed users. An ISP gives the user a private secured Internet account (access to the Internet), e-mail address, webspace and hosting services for a web page. By providing essential software, a password-protected operator account, and a method to link to the internet (e.g., modem), ISPs offer their subscribed users the ability to surf the web.

In addition to retaining a direct line to the internet, the company usually maintains webspace and servers. With the boost of smartphone usage, majority of mobile phone providers are also ISPs. They sure can differ in sizeā€”some are operated by one individual, whereas others by large conglomerates.

Majority of Internet Service Providers offer web surfing capabilities. They also provide varying degrees of customer support, generally in the form of email IDs and address or user support private hotline. Most ISPs also offer web hosting capabilities, which allows customers to create and retain personal web pages; and some may even provide the service of developing the pages for you i.e. website development. Also some ISPs packages offer internet services along with other services, such as TV cable and wired telephone service.
