I initially thought that dealing with this topic would be going on the trodden path, but however, I felt that there must be users who may have gone through the same agony as I have after using the Globcast internet service. I stay in Mulund colony and this area happens to have only one internet service provider monopolizing in the entire area. So there is not much choice for the residents of Mulund colony. Before Globcast came to our area, we felt we needed a saviour and stuck to Tata Walky service, which proved to be extremely expensive. After 4 months of struggle, we saw a banner advertisement for Globcast for a price of Rs. 250 per month for 40 Kbps.
We thought this would be a good offer and subscribed to it. We fell for it immediately without realizing how it is going to be. After a month of good surfing experience, there were several hang ups of the dial-up cable internet connection. Everytime I would call up the receptionist, she would give a different or an extremely stupid answer (For e.g. we are repairing the cable, the electricity is not there in our center, etc.) After a few months of use, the hang ups increased and the prices went up too. From Rs. 250, it gradually became Rs. 350 and suddenly now, it is Rs. 550 per month for 256 Kbps, but it continually keeps getting disconnected or goes off from evening to night.
The Exatt company (the main service provider) informed me that they would increase the price further to 1000 Rs., thus making it further difficult for users.
There was always one more disadvantage with the cable internet. Anytime there would be thunder or lightning, the LAN card would be blown off. At the sight of a drop of rain, the net gets disconnected (during the rainy seasons). This has happened twice in our case. The customer service is, however, good and the response for repairing and other problems is fast. However, the receptionist lies about the errors there at times by making up reasons for the disconnection. For heavy users of internet like myself, it is getting increasingly difficult to find a good internet connection these days.
