Underworld: Evolution Movie Reviews

Don’t get me wrong, I wouldn’t dismiss this movie as just another ingredient that populates the list of horrendous sequels, but surely it doesn’t do justice to the levels of performance that were expected from it either. To be fair to the movie, it is a good one. But without much of the class the original installment had to offer.

THE CAST

Kate Beckinsale:- aka Selene. – A cop in the vampire world. Her mission: To save herself and her lover from her own kind and the werewolves (Lycans) for different reasons.

Scott Speedman: - aka Michael Corvin - Now, a hybrid vampire-werewolf creature , who is coming to terms with his new form of life.

Derek Jacobi:- aka Alexander Corvinus –forefather of all the supernatural world. Strongest of all of them.

Tony Curan:- aka Marcus Corvinus – The only vampire elder left alive. Burning with the desire to free his werewolf brother William.

Steven Macintosh:- aka Tanis –a morally corrupt vampire who deceives his own race .

THE PLOT

Selene, having murdered Viktor,a vampire elder is wanted by the vampires and Lycans for her treachery .So, she is on the run from the word ‘go’ in the movie. She has only one ally, Michael her lover , a hybrid of both supernatural races. Marcus, the only remaining elder has accidentally come alive from a dead Lycan’s blood as shown in the first installment. He being a Corvinus vampire originally too becomes a hybrid creature, ‘The Corvinus Blood’ being the only criteria for formation of a hybrid.

He too is on the lookout for Selene as she is the only alive who has seen his imprisoned brother’s cell as a child.She was the only available map to free his brother. However, Selene is aware of the damage, William the most powerful Lycan can do, if freed. Her only way to find answers lie in finding out Alexander, the father of all supernatural world and a knowledgable, cowardly and vampire priest, Tanis she had exiled years ago.

But, as we very well know, Power generally leads to escalating corruption.And Marcus with his new found power has no sympathy left for anyone, not even his own father, Alexander who is the only figure who stood in his way in attaining the key to William’s prison.

How would Marcus overcome the strongest supernatural being, Alexander? Would he get what he wanted from Selene? How would Selene stop the mighty Marcus? Well,..answer these juicy questions yourself. Don’t miss it!

THINGS BETTER THAN THE ORIGINAL FILM

1. Kate Beckinsale, is much more convincing as an action heroine in this movie. She is own her own and has to do it all herself. And she delivers the goods even better than she had before!

2.It was great to see Scott Speedman having developed on his previous character, the development not being very hasty, just right for digestion by the audience.

3. Special effects and action sequences were better in this movie , the budget being double of that before.

4.It started exactly from where it had left off, ”no x years later” and unnecessary assumptions like that, as has become characteristic of most sequels.

5.90% of the movie was not shot in a basement as before, this time we have mountains, snow in the backdrop as well, although much of it has been shot in Budapeste. Canada was visited for shooting some parts as well.

6.The role of William was uncertain till the end, and the way things turned out, made for a decent ending.

7.The best thing has got to be the absence of Kraven for most part of the movie, being the most irritating character in the original.

8. No characters become alive again to defy reason, which was refreshing to see.

THINGS NOT SO GOOD IN THE FILM

1.The direction was hurried for a movie dishing out so many fundas, it needed to be slower for things to sink in better. say, around 15-20 minutes more would have done it.

2.The human to Lycan transformation was less convincing than in the original movie.

3.Although we have new characters to fill in the shoes of those departed in the first installment, the original villains in Michael Sheen and Bill Nighy were definitely missed.

4.The love scene between Selene and Michael one feels could’ve and should’ve been avoided. Wasn’t really called for .Similarly,so much bloodshed could've been done without.

5.The plot was weaker in this movie and more predictable.It was more like an out an out fairy tale action movie.That's where it shed some of its class.

All in all, a must watch for ‘Underworld lovers'. Even if you are not one, enough backstory is provided for newbies in flashbacks to be able to enjoy it. Go for it!

I'm a big fan of the no brainer action film but not really a big fan of sequels, yet I was eager to watch this movie as I was really smitten by the whole Vampire Vs Werewolves concept.

Sadly this movie let almost all my expectations down. I tried to remember the fact that this movie is a sequel that too of an action movie, and that I came into this movie expecting a no brainer. But this movie took almost everything about the original and threw it away.

The worst and the most disturbing part about the movie was there was just one genuine conflict between vampires and werewolves and that was in the beginning of the film throughout the rest of the film we are just seeing fights between super-creatures. Every bloody character in this film is a super creature.

The acting was lacklustre and cannot be classified as being good or bad. The chemistry between the lead actors was completely missing, despite the physical intimacy.The classy action scenes from the original were completely missing. The sub plots were non-existent I mean this isn't another issue of a comic book where we can have the entire issue revolve around only one concept. In fact this movie had nothing to do with werewolves it was as if their faction didn't even exist.

The only likable new character was the exiled vampire.Kate Beckinsale looked lovely as usual but she lacked the attitude from the original film. I kinda liked the eye candy that the two hot vampire girls provided.

The only good things about this film (cinematically) were the flawless special effects and the good artwork and the now standard but still likable perpetual state of gloom.

A further discussion on these points will need days and pages so its time for a summary.

This movie will probably be liked only by the people who were ultra-hardcore fans and don't mind seeing a sequel even if it more like another issue of a comic book. Also maybe those who are seeing this series for the first time or were not fans.

A fan of the base concept of vampires vs werewolf will be severely disappointed.

However the entertainment value of this movie is unquestionable and doesn't leave you bored for a moment(cranky maybe but bored no). It however will give you ample time to complain about how much better it could have been afterward.

This movie will go down in action movie history as one of the movies with the most wasted potential, only AVP will probably have beat this film hands down.

Strictly OK.But worth a watch.

Yeah......... that's right,

this leather mommy gonna punish all the naughty vampires and warewolves out there !!!!

first of all , if u haven't seen the first one , then be prepared to be very very confused..............this is the first sequel I have seen which actually doesnt make any sense at all as an independent film

the movie starts with a bloody war , has a few more bloody wars in middle , and ends with a bloody war

the movie belongs to the cult of people who genuinely believe that “VAN HELSING” was a best movie ever made and leave movies like “CASABLANCA” miles behind.

The movie drifts from the past to the present and analyzes the impact of unleashed fiends of the past

Kate has put emotions this time, which puts forth her as an actress as well; (though her leather dress was enough to keep audience glued!!!!!)

corvin’s character as an hybrid has been highly underplayed and he has been reduced to a toy boy who covers the window when leather mommy doesn’t want sunlight.

Movie goes the desi way when daddy cries not to kill his sons who in turn are killing millions out there…….something like thakur of villige defending his son’s misdeeds

Watch it if you

1> Have seen the first one and were waiting for sequel

2> Have not seen the first one but like to see a angry mean bad girl in skin tight leather kickin daylights out of warewolves (that’s all ull see if missed the first part)

The movie is just 2 gud guys.belive me the first part was nothing.the second one shows the way.you may have seen lord of the rings 123 but this is also good.. I will put is up that slot of good movies.but for all of you who wanna see this movie just take care that you have seen part 1 atleast 10 times or part 2 will go over your head.else it is gud one.this movie is very good I can say but you will not losse interest in it . it gud and has a sex scene.this is all I have 2 say about this movie for the rest please do watch the movie and please do not email me.and for the rest please watch the movie it is great.sorry I have nothing to say more than this just wtch it and tell me if u understood iteven you did not get it I dont realy care about it okay

Kate Beckinsale. Honey! Did I mention before that I get turned on with women action figures? I mean after Underworld, the first thought that came to my mind was can’t wait for a sequel if there is one. And sure enough I was in the theatre watching Kate Beckinsale kick some vampire but. The story is a mixture of both the past and the present. I think the beginning of the vampire and lycan clans is very well explained and the introduction of the first ever immortal adds weight to the story. One does wonder though that does such unconditional love for one’s corrupted children really still exist? The movie has more action, more story and hell of a lot more special effects. I simply loved the role of Marcus. I feel he has played the role of the first ever vampire brilliantly. There are spills and thrills all the way. Does the movie live up to expectations? Of course it does. It is genuinely one of the rare instances where the sequel is better than the original. The director had done full justice to the story and every character has done a brilliant job. I do feel however the role of Micheal Corvin the hybrid has been somewhat wasted and he could have done a little more than just kick lycan butt. I strongly recommend the movie to all action fans and people who are entertained by movies like XMEN, Van Helsing or the original underworld. The only other sequel I am eagerly awaiting is Xmen III. Cannot wait to get my paws on a ticket for that movie. The direction of the movie is brilliant and the action sequences have been directed with zeal. There is a scene where Kate Beckinsale jumps of a helicopter into the water. The way the helicopter blades slow down and you see her falling freely into the water is brilliant. One of the best scenes of the movie.

All in all Underworld evolution kicks some simplistic ass. As always no revealing the plot

First of all this movie is not everybody's cup of tea. The movie is certainly more intense and action packed then the first one. I must say a great delight for the fans of myth and supernatural but if you are a serious kind of viewer who cannot sallow unreal imagination give this film a pass. But for every fan out there who appreciated Kate Bekinsale in leather tights (underworld 1)will certainly love this film which develops her character from a hard balled, gun slinging, blood sucking bitch. to a more passionate individual. I like the first movie so this was a must see for me. But this sequel certainly has a lot of references from the past one to be qualified as an independent movie. The action sequences are worth appreciating with lot of gore and violence. If you are weak hearted and do not like blood. Beware!. The crew and cast has done a good job in this movie and as a biased fan of kate and len wiseman I certainly appreciated Underworld:Evolutions a lot.
