A 2004 South Korean war film by Kang Je-gyu, it is about the effect of the Korean War on two brothers. The title represents the pre-war Flag of Korea and the postwar Flag of South Korea. Released in the UK as Brotherhood: Taegukgi and the US as Taegukgi: The Brotherhood of War.

The lives of two brothers is turned upside down by the 1950 war between the two Koreas. Dragged into the war out of the peaceful family life that they were enjoying, they undergo transformations. They drift apart as one of them rises in the ranks.

At first he seeks to use his heroism to get his brother out of the war so that he can return to the family but the glory of war blinds him to all eventually.

This film would strike a chord in us in India as we may draw comparisons between ourselves and our neighboring country. It should also open our eyes to the futility of wars.

Such messages in a film could have dragged it down and made it boring yet Brotherhood of War is spectacular.

The amazing fact is the way war has been depicted-fantastic scenes of warfare could have turned it into a typical war film. Yet senses which highlight the ugly face of battle will ensure that we come away with strong convictions that War should be made obsolete.

The plot is well constructed and the acting is great.
