I only rented this movie because I remember really loving it as a child when we used to rent the tape and watch it when our parents were not around due to the adult nature of the jokes.
I was really curious to see if would still find this movie funny as I recently saw the original Pink Panther and felt that the humour was outdated.
I must say I was totally satisfied.
PLOT AND CAST IN COMMENTS IF WANTED.
Even after so many years I found myself laughing at all the jokes. The acting of the movie was actually quite good for a movie of this nature where the chances of hamming are very high but surprisingly there was not a single actor that looked like he was doing something over the top.
The plot(though simple) and characters were simply superb I seem to remember reading about some campaign to homogenise the Police Force in the US and this movie gives us a hilarious take on the kind of people signing up like the overly macho guy, the feminist , the petty criminals., the smooth Latino, the sissy guy etc etc.
The jokes are hilarious and if you love crude jokes you will love this movie. One scene that had me falling out of my seat laughing was one in which the Strict Leutinant ends up with his head in the most undesirable of places. This scene deserves a spot in the Crude Humour Hall of fame.
Another really funny scene is where the Head of the Academy is giving a speech and finds himself in the most awkward of situations. This scene also deserves similar honour.
Also its really refreshing to see Gay Jokes in this movie which were a staple of older films but seem to be taboo now. I don't understand why people cant have more racist(except Jewish) and gay jokes in films anymore its not like those communities cant laugh at themselves TV is filled with racist and gay jokes.
Although the background score was good it was quite generic and I felt it could have been much better considering it was funny look at the Police force. Also the reason why mahoney stays was Kim Catralls character and I felt their relationship could have been exploited for some really funny jokes.
Kim Catrall looks great in the movie and Leslie Easterbrook is the perfect Sexy and Strict Seargent. There is some nudity but it wasn't from any of them and was not required and they (the nude scenes) were not really funny scenes.
If your the kind who prefers intelligent upper class humour then this movie is not for you. This movie is all about fun and your not expected to take this film seriously.
Leaving aside a couple of points this movie is hilarious and if you like this form of slapstick humor, with a liberal dose of crude and sexual jokes then you will love this movie.
Funny even after 20 years and a must watch!!!!
