Peter Berg , and the second in 2016 alone ( the first being Deepwater Horizon ) , is about the terrorist bombing at the Boston Marathon on April 15, 2013, which killed three people and wounded hundreds, and details the unprecedented citywide manhunt that took place over the following week, a week when all of Boston was shut down. Patriots Day is at its best when it focuses on the real-life people—first responders, overwhelmed emergency room doctors, local policemen and FBI agents, those manning the phones for citizen tips, the hacker-types analyzing mounds of video footage—who ran to the middle of the maelstrom and got busy helping, the living embodiment of Boston Strong.

Tragically overacted patriots day film is a sloppy, rush job telling of the Boston Marathon bombings. Having first hand knowledge of a lot of how the actual bombings response and later the hunt for the Tsarnaev brothers occurred , Wahlberg got much of it wrong. Who did what, how decisions were made and how the investigation was carried out was not how it happened. The three or four main characters in the film do it ALL instead of the large group of people that actually were involved in what was a very complex operation. Many of the real heroes such as the BAA volunteers and EMTS who ran towards the bomb sites as the crowds ran away, were completely left out of the story. Also, watching the movie you are completely unaware of the sheer number of critically wounded people at the finish line that day. Both the fictional and the real life characters were poorly developed. It seems like a rush job to do a very superficial telling of a complex highly charged and traumatic event.

Patriots Day is an upcoming American drama film directed by Peter Berg and written by Berg, Matt Cook and Joshua Zetumer, based on the book Boston Strong by Casey Sherman and Dave Wedge. Starring Mark Wahlberg, J. K. Simmons, John Goodman, Kevin Bacon and Michelle Monaghan, the film is about the 2013 Boston Marathon bombing and the subsequent terrorist manhunt led by Boston Police Commissioner Edward F. Davis.

Principal photography began on March 29, 2016 in Quincy and Boston, Massachusetts. The film will premiere on November 17, 2016 at the AFI Fest, have a limited release on December 21, 2016 and a wide release on January 13, 2017.
