"She is from India, but she've never been to India. He is from Africa, but he also has never been to Africa."

I didn't realize that this film is directed by Mira Nair until I a few scene had gone. I think any kind of Mira Nair's materials should not be shown on the airplane as they are too sad for people who have to leave the country( They are Indian, but were referred as Asian).

Unlike the Namesake, People in this movie are not "willing" to leave Uganda, the country they were born. The Asian have to leave everything including the car that they have to park at the airport.

Before going to the story, we see now that the cruelty is not the matter of skin color. Black ruler can impose aparthied and expel other people as well( not trying to link with any political figure). I mean it's the matter of space. It's the matter of who is the one who gains power.

In the movie, you'll see Roshan Seth as Jay, the father who is the lawyer, Sharmila Tagore as the mother. Sarita Choudhury is the main character( Denzel Washington played a black boyfriend), Mira Nair herself play a gossip lady!

After having been kicked out of the Uganda, they moved to Mississippi and have one motel and one whisky store. The father always want to go back to Uganda to reclaim his land. Meena met Demitrius by accident. Then, they met again in the disco. Actually Demitrius just got mad with his ex girlfriend who dance with the other guy, so he uses Meena. Meena cleans toilet while Demitrius clean carpet.

When Demitrius introduced Meena to his family member, the grandfather doesn't know India is.

Moreover, Demitrius's brother embarass Meena by asking how come Indians were brought to Uganda, and when Meena said Indians went there to build a railway, that guy asked " Like a slave?"

They sneaked away to the beach, and had an affair. Unfortunately, people of Meena's neighborhood saw Demitrius's van and got to their room.

Both of their family tried to separate them( Hey! Maybe it is a Racism towards each other). When Demitrius came to see Meena and met Jay, Demitrius thought Jay behalf like a white people. In the meantime, Demitrius is borrowing some money from the bank to enlarge his business but everything is ruin when he had an affair with Meena. About the same time, Meena's father win the case of reclaiming the property in Uganda, and he asked Meena to go back with him.

While packing up the baggage, Meena run away with Demitrius. Meena's mother, too, decided to stay in USA.

There was a little bit conflict about Jay, Meena's father and his close friend whom he called" My brother". They were growing up with each other, but were torn away by Nationalist rulers.
