Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix

What do you say to Ms. Rowling who gave birth to a huge phenomenon called Harry Potter? You only sit back, smile and read her literature of wizardry and then actually get pregnant with the boy called Harry Potter, and fantasize; What if I was Harry Potter. Hmm… very nice bump you have there and very satisfying too., , ,

Harry Potter has been an enigma, a topic of hot debate and a series of films par excellence. Be it the storyline, the screenplay, the visual effects, the characters, the locations or even the impossible and daunting adventures that are unfolding in front of you… you come out of a reverie with ‘cat licking the cream expression’ which says oh hell yeah, that was good…

Dark, brooding, mystical, mysteriously surreal is the world of magic which never ever fails to fascinate you and stupefy you with its intrigue of making the impossible possible. The classic example being IMPOSSIBLE to I M[ake] POSSIBLE.

Before I embark on the dark whirlpool of clouds that always shroud our proud hero, I would like to pay a small tribute to all those people who have made it possible…

The sorcerers stone, the chambers' of secrets and the prisoners of azkabaan.. alll films which havet o be applauded. It ony reeks of one thing and its called POTTER MANIA...

Phoenix is a red and purple bird which rises in the south of your house and takes you to soaring heights. Thats what it does to you...

HP and The Order Of The Phoenx is one such drama that soars sky high but reaches the ruddy gully because you have your feet planted firmly right there.. The movie is gloomy and dark you cannot expect anything else when Harry has alreay had a tryst with Voldermort.. So thus begins the journey of our young hero in the land of the dementors who suck HAPPYNESS OUT OF YOU and also the DEATH EATERS WHO WISH THE DARK ON YOU..the books are gorgeous and the filmography fantastic.. The 3 d effets are worth seeing and not only that but they are death defying..

Harry Potter and the order of Phonix is way beyond the imagination of the normal man.. its all about the illusion that creates and destroys at the same time..

I recommend that you have to read Rowlings book ... she has paid me a huge sum, ...lol... the books will give you a good link but the dark arts will keep you at bay..

A complete magical mystical film.. what I want to ask you guys at MS is that should Harry die.. or should live...

adios .. I die. happily for potter.  No illuions here.. mind you no biblical theory.. just pure survival instinct.. thats it...

The Phoenix Rises - Better Than Before
Jul 17, 2007 08:43 PM 1475 Views

To begin with, it was a delightful movie - much better than any of its

predecessors. Why? It's more stable as a standalone movie - meaning

that some one who hasn't read Ootp can follow and enjoy this movie

easily, whereas the older movies don't have that'spark' unless you've

read the books. And, of course, it was rushed - being the shortest out

of the five movies, but based on the longest book of the series.

Many, many subplots weren't show, this is understandable but causes

aggravation amongst Harry Potter fans. Some of the more important

subplots were Montague stuck in the cabinet(a good foreshadowing of

the next book), St. Mungo's(although they had a scene with Neville to

make up for that), the lack of more important scenes with Kreature, and

a more detailed explanation of the Black family tree(RAB,

perhaps?).

Dan Radcliffe has really grown up as an actor - the possessed bit at

the end was perfectly disturbing, as it should have been. I can't

account for the acting skills of Rupert and Emma, because they weren't

in it all that much - Harry's kind of shedding Ron and Hermione, isn't

he? Evanna as Luna was brilliant. The best performances, however, were

by Helena and Imelda - as Bellatrix and Umbridge, respectively. Helena

portrayed Bellatrix perfectly, and supremely pulled off Bellatrix's

obsessive(and deranged, creepy) devotion to Voldemort - she was

practically licking her Dark Mark! Imelda was a great Umbridge,

sinister in her own way - as we all know.

I thought the ending was wonderful, although others would disagree with me. The fight between Dumbledore and Voldemort was amazing. nicely choreographed and the special effects were perfect. Although, the last bit of the movie where Dumbledore is speaking to Harry lacked the sorrowness I was looking foward to

Speaking as a devoted Harry Potter fan, I would've liked to see

parallels between the book and the movie. However, looking at the movie

from an outsider's view, I would have to say that this movie is a fast

paced, thrilling action movie with some righteous tender moments.

Recommended to anyone new or old to the world of Harry Potter.

The Rebellion Rocks!
Jul 17, 2007 07:29 PM 1759 Views

This is is going to be my longest review on MS and also my favourite. Okay, yet again a boy wizard comes and enchants us by his brief spell. This boy is Harry Potter. By far, Harry Potter And The Order Of The Phoenix is the BEST Harry Potter movie. First day first show, fourth day third show and now I'm planning to see it again. I'm not going to talk only about how I liked this movie. I'll briefly explain why OOTP is the most different and best HP movie.

While with the Dursleys, Harry(Daniel Radcliffe) cannot forget what happened barely two months ago. Lord Voldemort(Ralph Fiennes), the mosst dreaded dark wizard has returned. Only Harry is the witness of this incident and his few loyal friends, Dumbledore(Michael Gambon), and his secret missionaries believe him. To fight against the Dark Lord and also to recruit new members, Dumbledore re-organises The Order Of The Phoenix. They include members from within the ministry. But the ministry lead by the corrupt minister Fudge refuses flatly to believe that Voldemort is active once more. Reason: He believes that would create panic among the wizard, wizards would turn towards Dumbledore and thirdly, he will lose his post as the Minister For Magic. So in league with the Daily Prophet, Fudge tries to interfere at Hgwarts so as to supress Harry. A new prof, Dolores jane Umbridge(Imelda Staunton) makes Harry's life worse than hell. On the other hand, Harry's mind is infiltrated by the evil Voldemort. Can he fight it back?

The performances are absolutely terrific. Daniel Radcliffe who plays the famous yet distressed boy wizard gives a knock-out performance. Harry is 15 now, a perfect teen. He is frustrated about the ministry's attitude and ridicule he has gone through. He feels angry all the time. These emotions are perfectly potrayed by Dan. Rupert Grint and Emma watson who oplay Harry's best friends have lesser parts than usual but do complete justice to their characters. Gary Oldman who plays Harry Godfather gives a brilliant performance yet again as an accused murderer. Michael Gambon who plays Dumbledore does his role efficiently. Bellatrix Lestrange(I dont know her real name) has a limited role but does it perfectly. The real show-stealer in this movie is Imelda Staunton who plays Prof. Umbridge. Her girlish laughs, her pink dresses, her evil ways; all are a delight to watch. She is mind-blowing.

What do I say about the cinematography, camera effects and visual effects? I'm totally speachless here. When you see the scene in which Bellatrix and other death-eaters escape from Azkaban, you feel'Man, this is totally cool!' The scene where the Weasley twins burst their magical crackers is a delight to watch. The great hall filled with golden rockets, fiery dragons and colourful fires are a treat to watch. But the climax fight is which a huge+ point of the film. There's a 25 minute literally speaking awesome fight in the end. Its the scene where Harry and his five friends are cornered by a group of death eaters in the departmenr of mysteries. Your eyes will pop out and jaws will come down in each sequence here! Overall, very slick effects.

The direction by David Yates is top-notch. Peter Jackson converted a 900 page book into a 7 hour action packed movie(the entire series). David Yates converts an 800 page book into a 138 minute action adventure. Its not a joke to make such a big book into a reugular timed movie and yet keep magic of Harry Potter alive. Hats off to this guy.

Some cool one-liners:

1) You cant deny that minister, you've got to agree on one thing, Dumbledore's got style

2) How was it? Wet.

3) Just because you have an emotional range of teaspoon doesn't mean others do.

4) If a person felt all of these things at once he'd explode.

5) I'm sorry Prof., I must not tell lies.

Okay, finally I'll analyse the movie. I have and everyone has seen the earlier HP films. Just recall some scenes from the previous four films. Harry has a great time at Hogwarts, he is not aware of the deadle danger lying ahead of him, he has his little dventures with his pals. Not anymore. Harry has left the childhood forever. His future has been decided and concealed in a prophecy. He does not have his night-tme walks through the corridors of Hogwarts under an invisibility cloak. He is a teen now. His emotions which are depicted in the book are skillfully depicted in the movie. This is HP's darkest movie yet, and it is also the most brlliant of all.

Harry's one of the mostTOUGHEST years at Hogwarts!
Jul 17, 2007 07:16 PM 1606 Views

Potter madness is back! After making the fans wait a little longer, here arrives the fifth part of Harry Potter-The Order of the Phoenix!

The story of the movie: Harry Potter (Daniel Radcliffe) is about to start his fifth year at Hogwarts. Little did he know that it is year full of ill fortune for him. Not many are ready to believe Harry that the Dark Lord Voldermort (Ralph Fiennes) is back. Meanwhile, the Ministry decides to appoint a new teacher for Defence Against The Dark Arts, Prof Umbridge (Imelda Staunton) in order to keep an eye on Hogwarts. Professor Umbridge later proves to be the nastiest person Harry has ever met. Harry starts seeing horrifying dreams, which he is unable to explain, and later learns of a mystery of Voldermort searching for something. Meanwhile, Umbridge implies strict teachings and rules for students, because of which they began to feel with her as their teacher, they’d never be ready to face the outside world. So a group of students form a club, with Harry as their tutor, and the group is named ‘Dumbeldore’s Army’.

Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix succeed to impress the viewers, as it is highly engrossing. There’s not a single moment in the movie, which is dull or boring. Right from the first scene (Dudley bullying Harry) till the last scene, the movie keeps everyone hooked onto the screen. And plus, the movie is just 138 mins, making it the shortest of all the Harry Potter movies.

Another reason why the movie wins is because of the excellent direction provided by David Yates. He does a fantastic job as a director.

There are several scenes in the movie worth mentioning. The first scene was fantastic and it sets the mood. The entry of Professor Umbridge was too good. Also, Umbridge’s first class, entry of Hagrid, Grawp’s sequences, climax and the famous kissing scene of Harry and Cho Chang (Katie Leung) are the scene that remain etched in the viewer’s memory for a long time!

Daniel Radcliffe as usual does a great job as Harry Potter. This time he has done a better job, as the role was tough this time. He doesn’t disappoint in any scenes and is worth watching!

Emma Watson as Hermonie as usual looks cute and charming. Her performance too was good. Rupert Grint as Ron was as usual perfect. Imelda Staunton does an excellent job as Proffesor Umbridge. She went completely into the skin of the character. She really steals the show!

Michael Gambon as the good old Dumbeldore was superb. Gary Oldman as Sirius gives a brilliant performance. Katie Leung looks cute. Evanna Lynch as Luna Lovegood looks super-confident and acts nicely. Alan Rickman as Snape was good. Ralph Fiennes looks horrifying. Robbie Coltrane as Hagrid was funny. Others were funny.

The Art Direction of the movie is another plus-point. It was just marvelous! Music was as usual perfect. Slawomir Idziak’s cinematography was excellent.

David Yate’s direction, as I said earlier, is fantastic and highly captivating. It is good to know that David Yates is also going to direct the sixth part of Harry Potter, The Half Blood Prince.

Some of the best scenes of the movie:

  1. The first scene of the movie

  2. The entry of Umbridge

  3. The scene where Umbridge comes for a class for the first time.

  4. The scene where Harry goes to Umbridge for detention

  5. The scene where Harry and his pals form ‘Dumbeldore’s Army’

  6. Hagrid’s entry

  7. Grawp’s sequences

  8. The OWL exam sequence!

  9. The entire climax

On the whole, Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix is a well-made perfect movie which will surely entertain all the die-hard Harry Potter fans.

A FINE MESS WITH FIENNES
Jul 17, 2007 05:02 PM 1696 Views

IF YOU WANT TO WATCH AN OVERLONG TRAILER FOR THE FINALE THEN THIS WILL DO .

otherwise this is the most dissatishying part in the franchise based on the rowling saga, even though the 7th episode is coming out on saturday, it promises to be the best as for this its got surreal sets and great acting as the kids have grown up with the technology to create a seditious and seductive part 6 but its let down by a very clumsy ending with voldemart and harry fighting it out in a climax which is marrred by the intervention of  dumbledore and helena bonham carter  as the escapee from azkaban, she looks awful and acts even worse but gratefully is on screen for about 120 seconds in all, if you blink you will miss her as well as fiennes .

well the story involves a new professor umbridge at hogwarts [imelda staunton ]who is sent to reform the school by the ministry of magic and she tries to discipline the pupils who are being taught magic secretly by potter who insists voldemart is ready to strike again, but is not believed by the adults, at the same time harrys mind is playing games upon itself as voldemart [ralph fiennes in a cameo ]tries to take it over, while umbridge tries desperately to stop harry from forming the order of phoenix and the team to prepare to fight against the return od voldemart, the tutelage continues in the halls under harrys austere leadership with a delightful kiss between him and katie as a treat for the kids, but at the same time umbridge is upto her tricks and this part entertains as dumble dore rebels and is replaced by her as the new head master .

the idea of discipline and going back to thetraditional old ways is the message here but it seems its not working as imeldas ideas of seperating the females from male students and putting an end to all magic pranks by the kids are ardently rejected by the kids in a great sequence while the examinations are on their way .

the fireworks created by the twins with the giant clock ticking away as the young magicians applaud is in the OWL examination is definitely worth applauding as is the flying bird created in the classroom from paper reduced to cinders by umbridge but the fight in the climax was disappointing to say the least .

i myself find you cannot discipline anybody particularly the kids by force or punishment nowadays and that is what rowling is saying here too, though it takes a long time and even longer for potter to convince the others that voldemart is back, this is rather baffling as cedric died in the last episode at the hands of the evil lord, but it is vehemently denied by everyone, much to my amusement but also confusion as to why is the ministry of magic suddenly turns so anti -magic .

the message of reforn just for the sake of reformation is very well given in a very effective manner and is admirable as its needed globally for we see people insisting on reform and going back to tradition for really selfish reasons .

the rest you can see on screen if you dont know already but the plusses outweigh the minusses, the lavish surreal sets are absolutely enchanting as well as the flying over the city of london at night over the canary wharf and under the blackfriars bridge, its a magical ride as is the city of hogwarts which looks as manificent as ever with its gargoyles and live paintings as well as the addition of livewedgwood plates withliving kittens who are delightful as professor umbridges pets and  with the addition of an  adorable  giant  who I hope we will get to see in part 7 more so as well as the centaurs who carry off umbridge in a really funny scene .

the acting is the hallmark of the potter series and here its better then ever, all the kids act as well as the adults, who are superb as well from sirius [gary oldman ]to imelda staunton  to maggie smith as is julie walters .i am really surprised by radcliffes maturity and he has grown into a fine talent unlike natalie portman from star wars saga who is so mediocre .

dumbledore is stylish as always, but I find fiennesnot so frightening with his bald pate .white face minus a nose and that funny accent, hes played villain in the past like the nazi shooting jews in the head in schindlers list but here if he is trying to frighten the children let me assure you he was not sucessful, he will have to resort to some other trick to do so in part 7 and that does promise to be a treat as for this its a teaser trailer and nothing more, its not satisfying and gives you a feeling of a good starter with the main meal gone astray .

still definitely worth a look as the sets and acting is great and its definitely better then fantastic 4 and die hard 4, as for shrek the 3 lets forget it even happenned

enjoy but curb your expectations

thanks for reading

Excellent movie, if you forget the book
Jul 17, 2007 04:32 PM 1558 Views

This is an excellent movie with excellent action scenes, excellent visual effects and a simply marvelous cast. The casting of Evanna Lynch, Helena Carter and Imelda Staunton for the roles of Luna , Bellatrix and Umbridge was a brilliant idea. They suited their roles very well. The mannerisms portrayed by Evanna Lynch were very much Luna. A certain level of maturity of the characters which was expected in this book can be clearly seen in the cast. The visual effect were very well done. The thestrals were portrayed very excellently.

They have a certain eerie, yet peaceful air about them.

The main problem of the movie is that there are many differences in the plot of the movie and of the book, but if you put that apart and look at the movie on its own, its quite a piece of art. I also strongly feel Daniel Radcliffe has hogged the limelight a bit and not much screen time has been given to the other characters. But then this is the longest book and it has been compacted into the shortest movie, you are bound to loose the details. But even though the plot has been modified, the storyline flows very smoothly and even non-readers can get quite a approximate grasp on the story.

This is a feature which I have liked a lot about this series from the very begining - reaching out to the non-reader. My advice is :If you like Harry Potter, then go watch movie without fail and if you LOVE Harry Potter, watch it with some caution, for you will be in for some major disappointment as the plot is twisted beyond recognition. I give it 4/5

HP:OrderOfPhoenix, A nicely taken movie
Jul 17, 2007 04:23 PM 1437 Views

When I first walked into the movie, my expectations were not very high. The first two movies, I thought, were the best of the series mainly due to screenplays that closely followed the original books. Pacing has certainly been an issue in all the Harry Potter Flicks. As a Hollywood film, it deserves praise, bringing this amazing world to the big screen. However, to the die hard fans of the books, you will undoubtedly be disappointed.

After a summer of isolation in the Muggle world, Harry Potter (Radcliffe) returns to the magic community only to discover he is the victim of mockery in the wizard media - few believe in the return of the evil Lord Voldemort (Fiennes), which he experienced first-hand at the end of year four. On top of this, two lethal Dementors turn up and Harry is forced to use magic Patronus spell, resulting in expulsion from hogwarts. Harry is cleared of the charges with support from dumbledore and returns to Hogwarts.

Harry soon discovers that Umbridge (New Dark Arts teached)has been installed as High Inquisitor at Hogwarts by the paranoid Minister Fudge, with orders to reform the school and dethrone headmaster Dumbledore . Meanwhile, Harry prepares his army to fight Voldermort. The end of the movie includes the key to all the puzzles. Hence do watch it in theatres for the good animation and graphical effects. Overall, I would certainly recommend the movie for everyone, fan or not, as it really was a well made movie.

The Dark Lord is here
Jul 17, 2007 04:20 PM 1160 Views

Harry Potter and The Order of the Phoenix Warner Bros. Though I am not a Harry Potter fan, and I hate it. (Potter fans please excuse me for any factual mistakes I make), I went to catch the portrayal of the fifth book of the series on celluloid. I mainly go because I love special effects. Anyway, on with the important stuff. Viewers find Harry and the students of Hogwarts in serious trouble from the Ministry of Magic. The Minister thinks that Dumbledore is raising an army of students to overthrow him and that has made him lose his reasonable mind. In the beginning, Harry and Dudley is attacked by dementors in the unmagical (I made that word up) world.

Harry uses Expecto Patronum to save them, but he later finds himself liable for expulsion for illegal use of magic. Anyway, Dumbledore saves his skin in the trial. But then Hogwarts finds a new threat in the shape of the new Defence against the Dark Arts teacher. She is a total, (how should I say this without being indecent?), she is EVIL. In order to make sure that Dumbledore doesn't raise an army, she makes all kinds of restrictions and puts them upon the students. Harry and the others don't like it and they decide do something about it.

On the other hand there is the Dark Lord himself, Lord Voldemort, (Did you really think I would be scared to say his name? Yeah Right) is back but no one except Ron and Hermoine believe him. And Harry gets these strange visions at night which turn out to be true. And as you all know, Sirius Black dies in this movie.

I won't spoil your interest by revealing more of the plot. The graphics and sound are superb as always. The actors all deliver nice performances. The fact that the cast is getting more mature can be clearly seen. They aren't the kids they were when the series began. Along with age their acting power has also increased and they are becoming better actors with each movie and are carrying their parts exceptionally well. The other actors all give their usual best, Snape being my favourite. The camera work is brilliant and so is the music. Another thing viewers will like is the dialogue; no other film in the series has such funny dialogues. Some will make you fall out of your seat with laughter. The plot has a lot of twists and turns, and you will remain glued to your seat for the entire length of the movie. Overall, I will call it a must watch. It was a fully satisfactory experience for me and I bet Potter lovers and haters will love it alike.

HP – 5 – “Let’s get serious about life/death”…
Jul 17, 2007 02:42 PM 788 Views

After having spent entire Sunday jus’ lazing out, I and my roomie planned to go for HP – 5(unfortunately, when entire world is hell bent on watching couple of young kids flying around with their broomsticks & beating daylights out of some scary bad fellaz, then getting tickets becomes a Herculean task… Still we tried and thanks to lack of foresight of some divine soul, we managed to get tickets cancelled by him over phone booking).

I guess the Harry Potter magic was already working.

I prefer to call it HP – 5 …(No, nothing to do with latest digital printer by a company with same name…)

Since, I haven’t watched earlier sequels/prequels; it was a giant leap from HP – 1 to HP – 5. I know a lot of water has passed under the bridge ever since(considering the fact that itz monsoon, so itz amount must’ve increased threefold in this season); since LOTR and HP came in same year and after watching both I kinda lost interest in HP(no I am not comparing the two films… its jus’ that LOTR was more interesting…those who wish to disagree with me, are advised to remain so…)

As someone rightly said that u need a PhD from Hogwarts to really understand HP – 5(statement was meant for ignorant souls like me), not exactly a PhD but a short term Diploma program might be pretty handy.

STORYLINE:

Those who have read the book don’t need to know the plot and those who haven’t, they are advised to watch all the previous films(or you would jus’ sit there like confused souls trying to guess why everyone around is watching this flick so seriously… ‘Yeah’ the only pleasant sound you would hear is rustling of popcorns).

Things missing… its not any more fun studying in Hogwarts… everyone is either scared or simply pretending that he doesn’t care. No more fun at dining table. No more games. I mean, the genre has moved beyond the stuff that tickles kids(probably the kids have also grown so they don’t want to be tickled).

There ain’t many funny moments or one liners either…

Dark lord(or the shadow of his dark forces) has taken over Hogwarts…. It’s an intense film, where all the characters seem to be hiding a secret and they aren’t very ecstatic about it.

Politics spares no world. be it our real world or the mysterious world of sorcery … ‘Ministry of Magic’ feels threatened by the alleged nefarious designs of Prof.Dumbledore to take over the ministry. So it employs one of their confidante’s(Dolores Umbridge played by Imelda Staunton) to teach at Hogwarts, who eventually replaces Prof.Dumbledore as Headmistress(Therez also a ploy to expel HP from the school, which is thankfully vetoed by the council at ministry).

Umbridge is the kind of teacher who all of us would have experienced in one point or another during our academic years(n’ trust me you are gonna hate her). There is a big thrust on theory, so practical training takes a backseat. Its too much of discipline & less of students’ voice(even existing teachers don’t matter a lot).

A small secret about Hagrid is also revealed(whenever Hagrid is around you feel assured of some light moments in otherwise damn intense tale of good n’ evil).

Hogwarts has given due respect to current spirit of(or the lack of it) tolerance towards minorities and acceptance of multi cultures(so you get to see some Asians around, in fact one of them also manages to kiss HP… There are 2 Indian girls also… I know it makes no sense but gives a strange sense of pleasure… Our ‘videshi desi junta’ has gone beyond the regular servings of ‘chicken curry’ & ‘megabyte microchips’).

It’s a world of secret alliances. HP is convinced that dark Lord is raising an army and to thwart his attack he needs to be prepared.

HP enlists like minded students and thus begins the training of a ‘would be army’ against Dark lord.

Film has many subplots and one should be thoroughly aware of the background to understand it completely OR you can always sit back, munch your popcorns and wait for climax(thatz what I did).

There is also an alliance against Lord Voldemort… film gets itz name from this group.

Ralph Fiennes does a good job of playing Dark Lord …

Daniel Radcliffe(HP) grew with this character. He displays quite a transition from childhood to a confused/scared, vulnerable but resolute teenager and sticks his guns against all the opposition and displays commendable leadership skills.

Hermoine & Ron are always there as true friends but they are also unable to understand what HP is going through(I guess, even HP doesn’t know)

Helena Bonham carter plays a convict who has escaped from prison of Azkaban…(Actually there is a mass escape, so many convicts have managed to escape and have fun in outside world)… and tries to steal most important prophecy from HP n’ his buddies…(A small but impressive role by Helena)

Climax is all action packed, there are some amazing special effects; especially the scene in ministry where all the crystal balls crash on ground, with HP & friends running around.

We also get first glimpse of sheer power of dark lord and his ability to control people and their minds. Battle between Dark lord & Prof. Dumbledore is worth all the special effects.

Here you also get to know the dark connection between dark lord and our HP… they are related …. Somehow… that’s what prophecy says…. And this would make next sequel more interesting and chilling…

Now that stage is set for the final showdown… So, keep your fingers crossed and wait for a full fledged HP vs Voldemort war…

VERDICT: Good film, with perfect blend of intensity and seriousness; it sustains your interest and takes it to a logical conclusion.

Reading book is a must before viewing
Jul 17, 2007 02:08 PM 662 Views

Well if you ask me, I did enjoy it, but felt really odd as a lot was missing from what I had expected. My friends who saw the movie with me didn’t read the book. They said that they never understood what was going on and why! I thought there was a lot that was missing in the movie; few points are:

Harry being all alone and lonely in the beginning, his desperation to know what’s Voldemort doing out there after his return, his anger piling up inside him because of the loneliness. WAS MISSING! Role of the House Elf of the Black House was just two stupid small scenes. He’s much more important. MISSING Role of Tonk…

That was completely missing. Except for her line: “Don’t call me Nymphadora…” Hagrid was missing in more than half the book. So won’t complain about that. The LOCKET that’s suspected to be a Horcrux, which is found in the Black House, is missing. The way they enter the Ministry of Magic… They showed a LIFT!!!  Inside the ministry, at the Dept. of Mysteries, they just open the door and they are in the room of Prophecies… That was like a garden walk in it… There were no revolving doors…

Most of the things were just happening without explanations. The Centaur, FIRENZ (hope I recollect it right) is completely gone! That’s unfair and weird. The importance of the connection between Harry and Voldemort wasn’t properly displayed. As mentioned earlier, the death of Sirius. It was sudden and fast. – Come on, they could have done better. Last but not the least, the OWLS were missing!!!!!!

Easily the second best in the franchise
Jul 17, 2007 01:57 PM 893 Views

With the whole harry potter fans rushing to theaters to watch the 5th franchise, I'm one of those few lucky to watch the first show on the world's largest IMAX-3D screen. I have to say the effect was pretty amazing and the last 20 minutes is in the 3D format.

In short, the movie was great. It was better than all the other sequels I've seen this year(except Die Hard 4.0). Full marks to David Yates and the new scriptwriter for coming up with .what to say. a Muggle-friendly movie?(though I'm not one!). The movie is more about our heroic kids coming of age. The movie is much darker than the previous editions and focuses much on character development than all the CGI which in fact is a characteristic of any good movie.

The director has style, I should say! A few mentionable scenes are the encounter with Grawp(Hagrid's giant half-brother) and the kiss between Harry and Cho(no matter what, this was my favorite scene in the book!). But I would have preferred him to be faithful to the book in a few case like Dumbledore's escape from the ministry or the final encounter between D'dore and Lord Voldemort(Oh c'mon! get a grip!).

Imelda Staunton has put up a memorable performance as Doloros Umbridge, Hogwarts' new head-master. Her squeaky little voice helps her a lot and she was excellent! The performance is worthy of an OSCAR nomination. Pity we won't see much of her in the future franchises:( And one more example for excellent casting is Evanna Lynch for Luna Lovegood. She is so sweet and dreamy! Gary Oldman as Harry's godfather Sirius Black shows what a great seasoned performer he is. Daniel(Harry) as usual doesn't express much, Rupert Grint(Ron) acts well and Emma(Hermoine) well. overacts!

The climax at the Department of Mysteries is shot extremely well(and the CGI is great!). I actually preferred not to have seen this part in 3D which makes the images small and makes us lose the IMAX experience. Nevertheless, it was different experience.

The 5th book doesn't offer much in terms of the story as it is a kind of a link between the previous four and the upcoming two. So don't expect too much from the movie as it is just a preparation for the grand finale. I would rate this as the second best in the franchise next to The Goblet of Fire.
