Smart fools!

I watched this movie only a few days back, and I laughed, the purpose of the movie - fully covered. This is a comic movie, and is meant for laugh, and you'll certainly get that. Best part of the movie was Steve Carrell, he gains a reputation as a comic actor, and he continues, and he was excellently supported by Anne Hathaway. A passable performance by 'The Rock' (Dwayne Johnson) too, alongwith the great WWE fighter from India 'The Great Khali' (Dalip Singh). I will rate the movie as 3.5/5, why let's see.

It is a story of a expert analyst 'Max' Maxwell Smart (Steve Carell) who is very good at making reports for top secret US Intelligence agency, but he wants to get promoted to the field, he wants some action, not just back-office job. and guess what because of an attack on their secret office, he's been promoted as Agent 86 to go on a mission, reason - the enemies knows identity of each and every agent, except him. And he is supported by Agent 99 (Anne Hathaway), whose face has been changed due to a recent plastic surgery. Mission - to find out KAOS ( a terrorist organization) next destroying plans - they have acquired nuclear weapons, missiles lately, and are up to some big mischief. It's headed by Siegfried (Terence Stamp) who has a henchman named Dalip (Dalip Singh 'The Great Khali'). Even after wanting, Agent 23 (Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson) can't go on the mission, as his identity was also leaked. So, Max and 99 goes on the mission, where everytime Max did some mistake smartly, and helped by 99, and they're followed by Dalip. So, its a story of this mission led by incompetent or rather extra smart-fools.

Steve Carrell is at his best, perfect comic timing, and he has done it many-a-times in movies. Anne Hathaway alongwith other actors supported well. Masi Oka (Heroes series famed - the japaense character Hiro Nakamura) was also good. It looks good to see Dalip Singh in a hollywood movie, he was okay for his role of henchman, nothing much to do, but it was okay. Direction (Peter Segal) is good for a comic movie, and all the scenes generate laughs, its a kind of spoof on agent movies, like James Bond series. They're having agents deployed to every location, one is even present inside a tree, and they have comic entrances to get inside the main CONTROL or SAFE ROOM (just like Harry Potter's), and you just laugh looking at that. Nicely supported by background score and okay camera work (Dean Semler). Background score supported well (Trevor Rabin, Irving Szathmary). This movie is based on a spy parody television series of 1960 having same name and was designed by Mel Brooks and Buck Henry. It's a good effort to make out a movie out of a series, written well by Tom Astle and Matt Ember. Movie run around for about 2 hrs, and not a single moment feel boring. Movie was a hit at BO ($230 million out of $80 million budget, source:wikipedia), although not much appreciated by critics. A corresponding direct-to-video movie was also released by the producers with the side actors, and a sequel is also planned, although no update as of now.

Watch the movie for good dialogues, and some very good comic scenes. Do watch it and write a review.

Funny and Fun movie

I am going to keep this short and sweet. There have been instances of funny spy movies such as the Spy Kids series, Austin Powers etc. 'Get Smart' also is a spoof comedy based on the special agent theme. It has Dwane 'The Rock' Johnson and Khali. Steve Carell plays Maxwell Smart, a special agent who is capable for field duties but kept at a desk for his analytical abilities. An explosion takes place which changes his life. It sends the field duty servers like the super popular Agent 23 (Dwane Johnson) to the desk and Max to field duty. He has the gorgeous Agent 99 (Anne Hathaway) to partner him.

The movie paces on with tongue in cheek comedy as well as situational humor and a good mock spoof of scenes from well known spy flicks like MI, Terminal Velocity etc. Anne Hathaway also ducks the laser beams aka Catherine Zeta Jones style in Entrapment. The dance duet is worth a watch because it surely will blast off your funny bones.Even with a full familiar setting, there's enough of freshness to keep you hooked. Anne Hathaway looks gorgeous but a little puffy and tired. On the other hand its for better since she manages to look suitable in age for Steve's character Maxwell. So she does a lot of kick butts.

Take a bowl of popcorn and savor the comedy. You won't regret.

Slick action comedy flick

The movie is derived from an American comedy television series in the 60's that satirized the secret agent genre.

Anne  Hathway(devil's prada fame) has traversed well to this role of a field intelligence agent 99 in this movie. Steve Carell plays Max(of 40 yr old virgin fame) as an intelligence analyst turned field operative agent 86, brings his wooden acting skills and is a perfect combination for her. She looks very pretty in this movie too.

Quite a bit of the humour is subtle, except the last scene where Max shows his posterior, and you neither laugh too hard nor for a long time either.

The film definitely takes a sarcastic dig at the Yellowcake uranium(remember the discredited facts about the Niger yellowcake which was supposed to be used by Saddam) along with the president James Caan(mocking George Bush) reading a book with the kids(when the 911 attacks happened) which was tasteless.

The story is like this. Siegfried of KAOS is snapping up nuclear materials with an aim to blackmail the United States for a an eye popping money of$200-billion. He is assisted in his evil designs by a bunch of yes boss type folks. One is Dalip, played by Indian wrestler Dalip Singh(he reminds of the the Moonraker and the spy who loved me James Bond films, the tall 7 feet 2 guy with the jaws of steel) but this one does not bite. In a particular sequence when Max and 99 are about to be killed by Dalip, Max somehow concots a story about his sister, and he lets them go which was outrageous.

Together, Max and 99 play follow-the-uranium in a bid to stop Siegfried's plan.

Get Entertained...(the Jackie Chan way??!!)

Tis was Sunday, there was chance of rain, me and a couple of friends were in a zanny mood, joke after joke was being belted on innocent bystanders (in this case the staff and guests at Pizza Hut), and each was deadlier (read stupider or more funnier in our case) than the other, the feeling of mirth was infectious and when we finally rang the bell at Pizza Hut (not for the food in fact) there was huge and load thank you.

It was with this background that we decided to watch Get Smart, knowing fully well that smart was the last thing what we wanted or expected. But was it the right expectation Steve Carrell and Anne Hathaway are not exactly your traditional light hearted comic flare, Anne Hathway is a comic rookie (AND SMOKING HOT I MIGHT SAY IF ONLY THIS WAS A RATED

AND THERE WAS A NUDE BOMB HEHE), while carrell is more known for a combination of over the top sequences mixed with some strangely profound scenes.

Yet this movie had almost none of that THE HUMOUR WAS SIMPLE YET

HILARIOUS, almost bothering on slapstick but never quite getting there

and occasionally being a bit heavy and artsy but never quite getting

there.

The acting was superb all around, besides Anne and Steve, the rock did

a superb job as did the villains sidekick, even though this is a comedy

the acting and expressions were quite believable, also the acting in

some of the more serious and slightly emotional scenes were quite

commendable because quite frankly when your in the flow of comedy these

scenes are often handled quite weakly.

THIS MOVIE HAD AN ALL AROUND JACKIE CHAN FEELING In fact, IT HAD THE

HUMOUR IT HAD THE EMOTION IT HAD THE PRETTY GIRLS AND Surprisingly IT

HAD SOME GOOD ACTION.

The action was quite clearly the USP of the movie many a spy spoofs

have been made in the past, but unlike those and quite like "The

Tuxedo", this movie has loads of good action sequences mixed with the

almost Jackie-chanesque humour.

In fact IT DAWNS ON ME NOW I LOVE JACKIE CHAN AND HIS LIGHT HEARTED

MOVIES (especially his older comedies) AND MAYBE THATS WHY I LOVE THIS

MOVIE SO MUCH.

The only weakness's of this movie is the lack of a really big scene,

neither in the comic front nor on the action front (ala Jackie), AND

THE LACKLUSTRE CHEMISTRY BETWEEN THE 2 LEADS, Anne is probably taking

here artsy roles too seriously and wasn't able to shine in her comic

scenes nor in the scenes where she had to behave like teen aged girl

would.

This movie didn't quite succeed in pulling off a mismatched pair as

much as I would have like it too.

IN ALL THOUGH ITS A GREAT MOVIE THAT REMINDS ME OF THE VINTAGE JACKIE

CHAN COMEDIES WITH ITS FAIR DOSE OF COMEDY MIXED WITH LOADS OF ACTIONS,

AND LOTS OF MEMORABLE SEQUENCES.

Suitable to be enjoyed with almost any company (families in India

should avoid though).

-s so-so chemistry, no really big scenes.

+/-s age difference???!! .

+s lots of great comic and action sequences,

all types of humour, great all-round package.

total 8.5/10.

(ive factored in the fact that it exceeded my sort of high

expectations, cant help feeling its like a redux of Jackie Chan movies

with the odd couple, the sarcastic villain (or friend), the well

choreographed action, the all-round package, TRULY A MUST WATCH MOVIE).

Get Smart,get going

Get Smart is a very clear and out & out comedy of the Team on a mission to get KAOS Hqrs in Russia...to find the nuclear warheads(as usual) The Kid is doing fine with analysis for the US intelligence and wanted to be upgraded to the Field, but his Boss wants him by his side, always.Very true picturisation of what happens in present day corporate world as well. The double cross agents are placed by KAOS and it just does not get revealed till the very end,and neither am I going to spoil that plot. Khali, the mighty KHALI in probably his first Hollywood flick is good and very noticeable as the right hand man for the KAOS men... Very well shot copter - car chase and the blast.

The scene that takes the cake is the way the code for the blast time to occur at the Musical is deciphered by the Kid and the thankyou speech immidiately after that is quite hillarious. Keep popcorns at bay as the munching may probably make you lose out on some funny one liners-they are short and sweet, very good ones after a long time have I been in splits just like this time yesterday(Sunday) afternoon at Adlabs, Palm Beach Galleria,Navi Mumbai-Screen 4. I am keeping it short for not leaking the plot out as I dont want any of you guys to miss out on this one,for anything in this world.

TIP:Dont go for the DVD option as the large canvass will enthral you and larger than life visuals will impact the story by complementing the efforts of all on screen and back of the stage production guys. You will love the computerised doorway scenes that start the movie and then at the fag'  end too... Enjoy,Get Smart, get going, right away!!

JUST TO ADD ON THAT IT IS A SPOOF ON ALL THE BIG HOLLYWOOD PRODUCTIONS ESPECIALLY THE BOND 007 SERIES WITH GUNS,GIRLS,GIZMOS GALORE & THEY NOT FUNCTIONING WHEN REQUIRED-HILLARRIOUSLY CRAZY STUFF-
