There is no doubt that quentin Tarantino has few psychological problems, most of his movies(almost all I should say) have a psychotic touch to them. Deathproof, the other half of the Grindhouse pair movies, is written and directed by our very own Mr. Gore.
The story is about a mysogynist(a person who hates women) who claims himself to be a retired stunt man, who hunts down gals/women who move around as a group in their cars. He derieves please in ramming his Deathproof( he becomes deathproof inside these) into the car driven by his targets. The cars he drives, similar to rally cars, are strengthened by a metal frame cocon, are enormously powerful and are full metal, imagine one of these ramming into a modern day carbon fibre cars! that is the sight he wishes to relish.
The story starts with three gals, one of them is a an RJ in a local station, with two other friends going on a drive in austin( I think so) to meet few other of their friends, to have a drink and to smoke pot an have loads of fun. Our hero(anti) spots them, follows them, interacts with them, follows them, and rams his car from the opposite, thereby instantly killing the gals.
A year and half passes, our hero finds his new targets, a bunch of ladies associated with the cine industry, one a makup artist, the others being stunt women. Our hero(anti) follows these ladies to wherever they go, only this time, these ladies themselves are on the road for an adventure of different kind, when our hero starts troubling them with his Deathproof car. But this time he leaves them in between after having some fun. The ladies decide to take revenge, follow him and bet the living daylight off him.
The story is simple, but tarantino(unlike rodriguez) engagnes the audience with his typical lengthy conversations, filled with foul language, and builds up the excitement before the big bang scene.
The chase and race sequences have been extremely well shot.
Acting by kurt russell as the deathproof driver and by all the ladies is pretty good and natural. You should see the look on Kurt's face when is preparing to ram his car into that of the first pair of ladies, spooky!
Overall this happened to be the better half of the pair movies(since it happens to be filled with ladies, I guess this is the better half:))
I may be biassed, but I like the way tarantino makes the movies. He understands the american audience's pulse. The pulse that violence is funny! this movie, lacks that violent touch, or rather the amount of violence, that you can expect from his movies, is not much
overall, the movie is 1.5 hours of conversation and 20 odd minutes of action, but the action is worth waiting.
Cheers
