Saddest movie
Mar 09, 2016 02:18 AM1944 Views (via Android App)

Arol is gorgeous, gently groundbreaking, and might be the saddest thing you’ll ever see. More than hugely accomplished cinema, it’s an exquisite work of American art, rippling with a very specific mid-century melancholy, understanding love as the riskiest but most necessary gamble in anyone’s experience.

It’s hard to imagine a director handling this project more surely than Todd Haynes, a supreme chronicler of feminine emotional pain - from Safe through Far From Heaven and Mildred Pierce - who reasserts his status here as one of the greats.

Everything in this long-gestating adaptation ofPatricia Highsmith’s 1952 novel feels weighted to perfection. The film’s a smorgasbord of edible Fifties design which finds meaning in the smallest details.

Cate Blanchett rocks !
Mar 08, 2016 02:50 PM2433 Views

I am floored by this movie because it is an adaptation of a known novel-Patricia High smith but also Cate Blanchett. After going through it, I became an ardent fan of this good actress.

Given the way, she played protagonist really moved me. It deals with a sensitive subject and has a nice thought provoking plot. Cate is ably supported by Rooney Mara- who played role of her friend.

Undoubtedly, Cate made me glued or transfixed for long. Through her acting, she raised many questions. In fact, she made me realise that life is all about honest and confident human beings. It is among very good movies watched by me all these years.

In simple words, watch it for Cate Blanchett!

A beautiful film!
Mar 03, 2016 03:25 PM2649 Views

Well, my first review attempt here on an English film this time! I watch them rarely and most of them are nice. This time I chose to watch - Carol - which is more to watch for Cate Blanchett!

The movie in short, is about friendly love story of two women. Carol who is from a rich family background has her share of marriage issues with husband. As her marital relation hits new lows every passing day, she meets this another lady called Theresa and an instant chemistry clicks between the two. The two starts spending more time with each other, understanding each other, caring and loving. This definitely does not seem to be any physical lust though!

While Carol has problems in her marriage, Theresa has a boyfriend and are planning to be married but she does not. Instead, she gets close to Carol, emotionally attached and a new era begins in their lives. The movie ends on a high note. Carol is certainly a film that grows on you.

Characters played by the two female actors Cate Blanchett and Rooney Mara are equally good. If the subject interests you - I would say, go watch it, it will surely not bore you.

Carol-The feelings of two women
Mar 03, 2016 11:54 AM2323 Views

This is a story of 1950s, Carol Aird(Cate Blanchett), a wife and mother, is shopping for Christmas Gifts at a departmental store. She interacts to a salesgirl, Therese Belivet(Rooney Mara), they talk very gently friendly and laugh and even though they don’t know that they got attracted towards each other and they fall in love, right there.

Todd Haynes’s film then follows the women relationship & show love for person having same sex gender, as they meet for lunch, hang out at Carol’s home, roaming for an aimless journey, and go to bed—forgetting about any social barrier and their responsibility and commitment towards beloved.  Therese has a boyfriend(Jake Lacy), and Carol has a husband(Kyle Chandler) and a child, although the maternal phase gets short dramatic confession. I heard that the story base line is inspired from the novel of “The Price of Salt” has written by Patrica Highsmith. Yet Haynes and his stars, for all their stylish control, know that elegance alone will not be sufficient. Inside the showcase is a blizzard of feeling.

Cate blanchett delivers a master class in acting. And Mara is flawless, revealing Therese's sexual confusion as she moves away from boyfriend Richard and toward a seductive Carol. When the two women drive cross-country, lost in each other, Carol's husband, Kyle shows his anger by taking custody of their daughter.

Haynes' very efficiently makes carol a romantic spell of charm that attracts complete attention of everyone. It's one of the year's very best films. Blanchett and Mara is really deserve for great appreciation for giving wonderful life to characters who step out of the darkness and into a cruel world that their feelings just might change. I wanted to cheer.

It"s my car title
Mar 02, 2016 11:25 AM2161 Views

The Range Rover Evoque has been the game changer for the brand since its launch back in 2011. It is the highest selling model in the Land Rover range and would have continued to be so even without this midlife facelift. Still, it has been five years since the Evoque first started plying on the roads and logic suggests it should get a facelift, even if it just to retain the novelty factor. The looks have been the biggest USP for the Evoque. To say the least, it looks stunning.

The SUV has been around for six years and is still easily one of the most stylish SUVs on sale. The midlife facelift here is pretty superficial, but works fine. The exterior changes can be listed in one breath. There is a new bumper with the thin LED fog lamp strips and larger scoops for air intake, new rectangular grille, additional air vents on the bonnet and new-shape DRLs and all-LED headlamps. All of this goes perfectly with the philosophy, why fix something that isn’t broke? The end effect is that the Range Rover Evoque now looks more aggressive and in this new Phoenix Orange colour draws even more attention.

Land Rover has used the modified LR2 chassis for the Evoque, with the intentions of making it sportier than rest of the models. Also it is shorter than rest of the SUVs in the Land Rover range. As expected, there are no changes to the underpinnings in the facelift and all the basic dimensions apart from the length(which has increased by 50mm) are exactly the same. This is where we found the most noticeable difference in the Evoque compared to the pre facelift version. The white interior has been replaced by sporty black with contrasting stitches in correlation with the exterior colour – in this case, orange. The cabin now matches the exterior in terms of image. Even the door trim of the new car has changes; where earlier it had beige with black inserts, the panels now use black and brown leather trims. I particularly liked the soft touch treatment given to the top of the dashboard.

But the black colour and the attached sporty feel comes at a cost. The Evoque has a tiny cabin and it feels smaller with the dark coloured interior. Plus, despite being an SUV, the Range Rover Evoque tries to offer sporty feel, which means you are sitting relatively low in the cabin and that coupled with small windows means, rear passengers are bound to feel claustrophobic.  The saving grace is the ultra large sunroof, which when open, does provide ample natural light. However, in a tropical country like India, that is not the best option, all the time.

We are dealing with a segment, where the occupants’ safety is a given and hence I will talk about the equipment list first. The Evoque gets an updated eight-inch LED screen for the infotainment unit with the Meridian system. It sounds nice, but the interface isn’t too different and not the most ideal. The touch screen requires you to take eyes off the road, additionally there are buttons all around the console and that means extra time and attention in getting the desired result.

It has plenty of features – there are surround cameras, instrument cluster with heads-up display unit, and independent screens for rear passengers, panoramic sunroof, remote to operate the music system from the rear and ambient lighting in seven colours. There are plenty of storage bins in the cabin as well, the glovebox under the dashboard and one under the driver’s armrest are deep. The door pockets on the other hand are not, these are thin and narrow and fitting even a single one litre bottle in here is a task.

The Evoque is available with only one engine option in India; the 2.2-litre turbocharged four-cylinder diesel putting out 188bhp and 420Nm of torque. The numbers look sufficient for a good drive, and test figures confirm the same. The Evoque gets to 100kmph in 10.5 second and way beyond without breaking a sweat. More importantly, with more than decent torque spread and bottom end grunt, in-gear acceleration is good. Getting from 20kmph to 80kmph takes six seconds; 40kmph to 100kmph is just a second more. The Evoque has a firm ride, especially at low speeds. Low speed drive through pot holes, uneven surfaces and even smallest of the speed breakers is uncomfortable. It does flatten out as the speed goes up, but even then, it does not have the plush ride like most of the SUVs in the segment, including the Land Rover Discovery Sport.

Land Rover uses magnetic MagneRide dampers as standard on all variants and it has kept the body roll to minimum. Also the steering is precise and the SUV turns in quickly, making it fun around corners. The only downside is a hint of understeer but that too only comes in if the Evoque is pushed hard.

Carry on Carol.....

Now I have to utter a futile howl of rage and pain on behalf of that wonderful film Carol, directed by Todd Haynes, adapted from the Patricia Highsmith novel by Phyllis Nagy and with sublime performances from Cate Blanchett and Rooney Mara. How on earth has this superb movie been so overlooked by the Academy? I now hope that Carol has a kind of One Direction career: snubbed by the awards establishment, it may get an underdog bounce as everyone realises that it is better than most of the films being showered with praise. - Peter Bradshaw from The Guardian.I feel tapped out on what to say here, and don't want to sound repetitive even though I am totally capable of that one! Been participating in comments from the get go on this page which is something I have never done before. I'm new to social media. As we are drawing to an end here I think, I would be seriously remiss if I didn't participate now. The film and all it represents from the storyline to the masterful performances of Rooney and Cate, direction of Todd, score by Carter, etc., etc., is just so, so important to me. Important in my life and I can see from so many of you just how important and meaningful it is to you. It has been a wonderful experience for me to share in this with all of you. I thank all of you for that! Your sensitivities are amazing! As much as the Academy disappoints, and they disappoint on lots of levels( like Gaga not getting the award for Till it Happens to You), the fact that this film was nominated for 6( I think) awards is a wonderful thing and a good start to acceptance and hopefully understanding one day. It is beautiful everything from start to finish. I now hold it close to my heart. A line that resonates for me, there are no accidents, and everything comes full circle. I am forever hopeful! Once again, thank you, thank you Team Carol for giving of yourselves in the most beautiful way!

These 2 beautiful highly intelligent women out shadowed everyone at the Oscars last night. Americans are prudish about sex, it's embarrassing to be One. This is one of the best, sexiest, and saddest( her creepy husband succeeds at ripping her daughter from her only because she is gay) movies I've seen and I love both of these actresses!

Cate Blanchett is Carol.
Mar 01, 2016 09:42 PM2762 Views

Cate Blanchett is Carol, in this new movie, a woman on the verge of a divorce with her uninterested husband and meets a new girl who works in a Manhattan store and is trying to make it as a photographer. This drama film starring Cate Blanchett and Rooney Mara in lead roles is set against the backdrop of the Big Apple in 1952. A completely different era when women falling in love with each other was considered unthinkable.

The adaptation of the novel'the price of salt' has been brought on screen by the acclaimed director Todd Haynes. The characters of Carol and Therese are impeccably acted by Blanchett and Mara. So gracefully and bravely these two actors explore the complexities of the actors. Story itself is beautiful and the direction is stunning. I was completely drawn to the acting and the direction. the best way in which I can describe this movie is that it is bold and beautiful.

Catol movie is a very nice movie to watch with your friends or family. While Blanchett not surprisingly is great as this very rich and polished yet dangerously brittle woman who starts off as the more confident and even a tad pushy one in the affair, Mara is a revelation as a girl who is as vulnerable as she is generous. Overall the actors have done justice to their characters and I will recommend this movie to everyone.

Love transcends gender
Feb 27, 2016 12:47 PM2124 Views

Saw this fa few days back as it's nominated for a category in oscars, and I think it's pretty decent watch. One thing you'll love the most about this movie is how simply and silently the shots are beautifully taken which will provide a calm effect.

The film is pretty high on drama and emotional content so all those who expect action or subtle comedy of it would be a bit disappointed. The movie cuts to stereotypes and I think it's surely among the most beautiful love stories this year. It's slow but never boring.

Both the leads have played a fantastic role.
