This movie showed the africa beautifully, beautiful scenes, mailnly the culture and traditions of african people .while watching this movie I felt that iam in africa for a while such amazing the movie was.

now coming to the action of leonardo dicaprio, as we all know he is one of the best actor in hollywood, his performance in this movie was really mind blowing, he really seems to be white african in this movie the main turn in this movie was given by danny archer(leonardo).

and now talking about djimon who played a role of solomon, solomons character in this movie was very innocent he doesnt know how to cheat people, he only know love towards people and most importantly his family.

next comes the journalist maddy bowen(jennifer connelly) who even played an important role finding solomon his family and also published a magazine which told the secrets running in africa .

every one played their role to the peaks and finally I could say this movie is combination of adventure, family relations and love.

For me to be honest this is the best movie and also my favorite movie till now. The film is just so inspiring and moreover the things I've learnt is the trading of diamonds in the Africa and the young soldiers those who are forced to kill the innocent people without showing any mercy by the rebels.

Movie mainly based on illegal trafficking of diamonds.Modern society do not knows the harsh reality behind the one of the most precious and loved thing by mankind-Diamonds.Movie is not all about it but it shows what happening in third world countries their inner wars, lack of education, disconnection from basic needs of humankind etc. Acting  performances of all characters are amazing especially of Danny archer by Dicaprio and Solomon Vandy by Djimon Hounsou. Dicaprio plays the character of a gunrunner who is mad about diamonds while Hounsou plays the character of fisherman who dreams about his son to be a doctor and protecting his family from RUF(Revolutionary United Front) . Jennifer Connelly played character of Maddy Bowen a reporter tries to expose illegal diamond trafficking business.

Background score of the movie is very thrilling especially during the action scenes.movies theme focusing on Africa and by hearing soundtracks feel about it. The way movie present Africa to you is appreciating-geography, people, culture and many more things clearly included in this movie.At the end movie is a must watch.

What to say about leonado DiCaprio and his acting skills. He is best actor of world. Blood diamong is a realistic base movie, tell the situation of Africa where illegal diamond mining is going and terrorist group named RFA is killing innocent people's. A fishman found milian doller pink diamond and hide it from bad people's. Leonado work for government and do some illegal diamond smuggling. He help the fishman to find his family is return of pink diamond. They both work together to find missing people's and finally fishman get his family. But leonado get short of his chest and couldn't make it to end. He gave his diamond to fishman. Really great movie and great acting by leonado DiCaprio. The cinematography is also very impressive.

Leonardo DiCaprio has become one of the premiere American actors. With a set of natural instincts that lends a non-showy, believable quality to all of his performances, versatility, and movie star size charisma that fills up the screen and emotionally hooks the viewer into his character and story. I've had little patience for him before, Leonardo DiCaprio has really impressed me this year. With his performances in'The Departed' and now'Blood Diamond,' I think I need to reappraise my own biases against him. I'm becoming a fan.Nominated for five Oscars, "Blood Diamond" is an action, political adventure at its best!

The movie raises certain questions. Is all warfare based on the struggle to control natural resources? Is all warfare a response to market forces that demand certain products and will prompt certain groups to take extraordinary measures to ensure that the needs of the market place are met? The analogy to oil and the Mideast crisis is obvious. This movie is a powerful statement on what happens when greed runs rampant. The results are catastrophic.

I personally watched this movie 10, why? You will get to know after you watch it once.the story is about a fishermen, a diamond dealer, RUF ( people aganist goverment) , goverment soldiers and a HUMANITY.

I will not fully discribe the movie otherwise it wont be fun for you after watching this movie.but I will tell you the main point of the story its all about Diamonds as we know africa has diamond, goverment has the legal diamond and RUF have the illegal diamond, and RUF sells the diamond to van de caap company in usa and one day the fishermen discovers a unusual purple diamond and theres where the story evolves.

In a small village of African continent, a poor fisherman Solomon had a dream that his son Dia will one day become a doctor. But that land had the diamond mines. The Revolutionary United Front(RUF) used to sell those diamonds to a company ‘Van De Kaap’ and used the funds to buy weapons to rebel against the government.

Well, the RUF shattered Solomon’s family. He was taken as a labor. But, this fisherman is an intelligent one, to hide the diamond piece. Inside the prison, the captain shouted about that diamond. In that jail, there was another man, whose name was Danny Archer, who was caught trying to smuggle the diamonds across the Libyan border, with the help of a sheep.

Where is Dia? Well, he is getting trained and brain-washed as a captain of RUF. Colonel Coetzee is a greedy person, at least for that big diamond. Danny met a journalist Maddy Bowen. Maddy is a socialist with the humanitarian touch. On the other hand, Danny was utilizing Solomon to steal that hidden diamond. These three people were in a sandwiched situation, where both the RUF and Government soldiers were fighting with each other like deadly warriors.

Desperate to get Dia. hmm…there was some chemistry between Danny and Maddy. But, Danny and Solomon started the trekking towards that destination, where the diamond was kept hidden. The helicopter reached on time, to rescue them. How to convince this brain-washed Dia, that he is my good son, who will become a Doctor one day?

Who killed Colonel Coetzee? Why Maddy is crying, when Danny called her through his mobile phone? Solomon wants his family back in return to what? Which is more precious in life? Is it blood or diamond or the true magazine coverage with the title “BLOOD DIAMOND” of Edward Zwick, featuring Leonardo Di Caprio, Jennifer Connelly, Djimon Hounsou and others? Always buy the conflict-free diamond and preserve the natural resources of your country. Can you guarantee me that Maoists of India are not creating child rebel soldiers like the RUFs of Africa?

I will not get into the specifics and mechanics of who directed the film and who did the screen play. But what I would definitely draw attention to certain aspects of the movie that really caught my attention.

Conveying an important message through powerful storytelling and imagery Most people who have watched Hotel Rwanda will agree that both movies are joined through a common theme and topic. Both talk about political instability and insurgency in Africa although in different countries.

Both talk of conflict within the diaspora of their respective stories. While Rwanda recreates the incidents I believe that blood diamond is a fiction set in the backdrop of a real life scenario. But at the end of the day, blood diamond succeeds in getting the message across powerfully and is sure to have a lasting impression on the movie audiences.

The dialogues are scripted to perfection with an effective combination of both wit and seriousness to strike the right chords at the right time with respect to the story and the plot.

The screenplay is racy and the story telling is slick, except in certain cases relating to Dicaprio’s love interest in the film jennifer connelly. Its however the manner in which the underlying reality of how conflict diamonds are mined and find their way into the international marketplace at the expense of innocent lives of the natives of sierra leone and how the international buyers are manipulating market forces to keep diamond prices at a premium.

Dicaprio has acted excellently and has definitely matured as an actor, he brings his character to life and portrays him brilliantly, dont miss the zimbabwian accent and mannerisms of Dicaprio a high point of the film.

Each character has layers and deeper characters that are brought out through the film by imagery and stories of their past.

All

in all a must watch film. I only feel bad that Dicaprio despite getting

a nomination for Best actor in the Golden Globes didnt win.

Besides Leonardo DiCaprio's stunning performance and the graphic

portrayal of Sierre Leone's conflict diamond trade truths . Blood

Diamond subtly touches the theme of child soldier, international power

play of the corporate and of course, the weapon supply. One Movie -

several facts being portrayed. Come to think of it, each one of them

are happening even as we start another Monday in our lives. As I sit in

front of my console waiting for a new week to begin, somewhere someone

is falling to sleep thinking of his next move to create their monopoly

in natural resources. . someone is thinking of escaping their

homeland, maybe in Afghanistan, Syria or even Iraq.

What is worse,

somewhere a innocense is being ripped out of its very core.

Somewhere during the movie, one dialogue brings out a very true point.

With the story out in the free world, will they come to save the

situation. There has been a lot of writing, activism, coverage on all

of these, and what has been the outcome. Generous cheques, seminars and

conferences, celebrities speaking about it openly while accepting their

awards and nations making an effort(like joining the Kimberly

Process). A brave attempt by Edward Zwick to capture all shades of war

financed by smuggled diamond and thus raising the demand and hence

fueling more war. and more blood diamonds.

And of course, no one is left behind in this quest, even children. If

they are not skimming the murky waters for a piece of shine that cuts

glass, they are learning how to build a future for themselves by

shooting bullets in the chest of their own kin. of course not all.

As movies are supposed to end, there is a hope restored. Wish that hope

is for real, and not long.

Maybe diamonds are a girl's best friend. Blood diamonds .?

Wow, I never thought you could break a  work into something so complex and I could not find an explanation to expand the word blood. George Bernard Shaw, in a club once said " Do I have your gracious permission to insert the tips of my digits with the atomized particles of tobacco into my nasal promonitory". when he meant to ask "May I Snuff?" Okay that was deep and it was an unrelated bit of junk pile information, I just wanted to put here . . . .

Anyway, for a very long time, I had this impression of DeCaprio that he still needed time to do a mature role. Well, I did like his performances in Basketball Diaries and Catch Me If You Can, but they still had that yourthfull exuberance that he always displays. For a nice change, he plays the experienced, laid back, scheming person in this role, which brings out a very mature side of his acting persona. I saw him do this in The Departed with great effect. One does not share screen space with Jack Nicholsen, without being over shadowed, however he did manage to play his part without a hitch.

Based on a reality about Blood Diamons from Sierra Leone and about the factual Kimberly Process that was brought out to fix the problem, this is a movie which deals with a minute based detail of how the transfers take place, who gets the money and everything. From the tortured interior regions were people are forced into salvery in mines, to the plush offices of London diamond markets, they take you through an entire world of chaos. The way the story is reeled out, is neither too fast nor too slow. Just the right pace for a movie. Djimon Hounsou  plays his piece in a way that makes you believe in him. By the end, you are happy to see his life take a change for the better.

What I really find interesting about the movie, is the way the story is told in a quazi-first person mode. The direction of the story is told in both Hounsou and DeCaprio's points of view in the same frame. You actually get to see both men interact on the screen, the way real people do. The entire moviie has this and in a continuity stand point, it works great. One of those rare movies in the past year, which I would not mind getting the DVD into my collection. Most of the stuff that came out the past year was something you had to watch on a king size theatre screen.(Like Transformers) or something you just rent watch and forget(Like Apocalpto)

I heard all the hype about how this movie exposed the blood soaked trade in Diamonds for everyone to see.

The Kimberley Process certification scheme was supposed to rid the market of conflict diamonds but it has not made any dent as big corporations do not want their clout to get minimized.

Canadian Diamond Code of Conduct does a spectacular job in that Canadian diamonds are tracked from mine, through the refining process to the retail jeweller with a unique diamond identification number laser inscribed on the diamonds girdle.

US is the world's largest diamond market and the very people who denounce the system are the ones who give support to it.

The movie has spectacular locales and frankly it is a low budget and low quality movie(more like a cheap Bollywood movie sans the songs). The movie succeeds in raising the problem if that is what its real intention was about than profiting from its commercial success.

Leonardo is okay and the Afircan actor I felt gave a better portrayal.

While watching this movie but I could not stop thinking about the double standards of the holliwood industry. Certainly the producers, actors, director, etc, are making a fortune from making this movie, while they present themselves (quite successfully for what I read in other reviews) as compromised people that are exposing the truth about the diamond industry in africa. The fact is that they are too using this conlict to make a lot of money.  And this is the worst about this film. In my opinion they are as good as blood diamond traders. Watch it with your unwashed brain. Be critical.

Think about the millions Di Caprio made while shooting this movie. Morality aside the movie is an excellent action flick, and a very violent one too. It is well shot, the acting is good, and is certainly thought provoking. I agree with other reviews: the last part of the movie is way too predictable. I recommend to watch it to everyone, but I do not recommend paying for it. The promo of the movie was enough for me to know the movie was A grade.

After watching the departed I have realised that leonardo is no

chocolate boy, he is a seasoned actor who can deliver strong

preformances. This is a movie which is worthwhile to watch.

Set in the sierra leone in 1999, the film portrays a country torn apart by the struggle between government soldiers and brutal rebel forces. The film portrays many of the atrocities including rebels cutting off people's hands to stop them from voting in upcoming elections.  Blood Diamond is the story of Danny Archer (DiCaprio), an ex-mercenary from Zimbabwe, and Solomon Vandy (Hounsou), a Mende fisherman. Both men are African, but their histories and their circumstances are as different as any can be until their fates become joined in a common quest to recover a rare pink diamond.

With the starting sequence you start to realise this movie has substance and reality. Well I watched this movie on a CD first and then proceeded to watch it in a hall. No silly sally stuff. No superheroes, just plain truth and the chaos in africa which is caused by the money greedy western powers. Its not a documentry yet it makes you realise the number of lives people of africa hae lost let alone their homes and belongings. Its not a movie to glorify the lead actor, cause you will never know who the lead is leonardo or Djimon Hounsu. The problems this movie showed just through the simple plot of a man finding a rare and large diamond really make you think for a while hw creativity works in the minds of gr8 directors.

Action sequences are A class. The gunfires and fight sequence are potrayed perfectly Background score is great. "Shine ON EM " is a gr8 track to listen at the end. Dialouges are perfect. Specially like the "this is africa" and "thank gods they didnt find oil here" Djimon Hounsu really moves you with his preformance and the emotions he shows. leo potrays a bad guy with a kind heart perfectly. rest of the cast play their part well yet are overshadowed by these two giants.

In the end the director manages to convey his message clearly. The long forgotten africa is still being exploited and its own people are being killed for the resources it has to offer. Watch the movie for an eye opening extragavanza

Rarely are there some muvies which touchs one's heart that it actually makes you wanna get up and do something for the people of africa, and certainly this one delivers that.

One of the best and outstanding muvies to hit the silver screen in recent times.

Set in Seirre Leonne with the african nation as it's backdrop, this muvie lets people know what goes on with the diamond trade in and around of africa and also with other countries.

Well I guess this muvie needs to be seen to actually feel the plight and pain of the african people what they go thru, with those of Revolutinaries fighting for power in the nation and the common man suffering from this war led regions.

Led by some exceptional acting from it's lead actor's Leonardo Di Caprio(Nominated for Oscar), Jenniffer Connelly and Djimon Hounsu and it's gripping screenplay, this certainly is one of those muvie which cannot be missed.

Can just say.dont miss to catch this muvie.U won't regret it!

My brother spent a little more than one year in Sudan as an officer in United Nations Peace Keeping Force and it was only then, that I bothered to look up where Sudan is on the map of Africa.

Brother is back safe and sound, and Sudan is out of my mind. There is some trouble in Darfur region of that country, BBC tells me everyday, but that is too far for me to worry!

But then as the journalist Maddy Bowen(played by Jennifer Connelly) says you need real people to get people empathize with. That's what'Blood Diamond' does. It charts the tragedy of an entire continent keeping in front tragedy of an individual. It tells the tale of how an entire generation is being denied of its innocence across the world, in the name of revolution, freedom, strength and what not, but is nothing else but greed of someone. Every precious thing that Africa has ever produced, rubber, Oil, ivory and now diamonds, reduced the cost of just one thing: human life.

Set in Sierra Leone, about a decade back, the film marks the trail of diamonds starting from this(and such) war-torn lands and reaching devloped countries. In the process earning the separatists hundreds of millions of dollars for funding the civil war that has made millions of people refugees in their own country. Thousands of women raped and murdered, men either shot or amputated or if lucky made to work in diamond mines. And young boys made mercenaries, made murderers who kill without a thought.

Oscar winning director Edward Zwick has treated the story and screenplay by Charles Leavitt in such a matter of fact way that you are just stunned by the ruthless brutality. I even felt myself asking a question of why should world help Africa, if the people there are killing their own countrymen so unabashedly!

Solomon Wandy(Djimon Hounsou) has big dreams for his son's future Dia and wants him to be a doctor, but separatist RUF, which is fighting a civil war in the country, abducts him. Dia ends up being in RUF. Smuggler Danny Archer(Leonardo Di Caprio) will help him find his son, if he gives him the'biggest he ever saw' diamond, and journalist Maddy Bowen will help Danny for the story about diamonds emanating from war-torn countries. But the diamond leaves a long and bloody trail, untill Bowen's story about Blood Diamond brings forth the story of Solomon and many of the countries decide to put an end to this business.

Both Caprio and Hounsou have earned themselves an Oscar nomination(again! Hopefully they will win) each for best actor and best supporting actor respectively and that itself speaks volumes about their performances. The film has three other nominations for editing, sound mixing and sound editing. The film may not be exactly picturesque and but the depiction of battles on streets and relief camps seems to come straight from the BBC/CNN documentaries. I also liked the music by Chris Howard.

In my opinion, the one scene that stands out is when, Dia points the gun on his own father. It's then, you realize how deep the scar runs.

One of the best movies I have ever seen. If you haven't watched it, what are you waiting for?
