The movie singh saab the great is very average movie. The production and creative team tried for the sunny deol to look young but it didn't work for the movie.

The movie singh saab the great is like one time movie. Some songs are not so good and like annoying to ear. The cinematography is normal and not so creative.

Awesome movie with awesome story. Sunny is looking great in the movie and this movie shows the life of a warrior.

Like all films that talk of reforming society, Anil Sharma's Singh Saab the Great has its heart in the correct place. Sunny Deol's earnestness shines, throughout the duration of this melodrama. But these guys have to choose better plots to make a point. We've seen a honest collector single-handedly trying to tackle corruption a zillion times. And the treatment; ouch, it hurts more than the hero's blows.

The film's objective is to deify Sunny Deol and simultaneously showcase his famous fists. Bollywood believes that this Jat actor's fists weigh a kilo and a half each. Also sample the dialogue that goes: Bali hamesha bakreki chadti hai, sher ki nahi; paisa aur power Raavan ke paas bhi nahi raha, etc.

Even these can be enjoyed if Sharma had chosen a sharper narrative. And his hero has been less preachy. Guru Gobind Singh, Gandhi, Vivekananda, Bhagat Singh's names are used in vain, especially because ultimately the film is just reduced to a trite, over-the-top Bollywood hit-and-holler affair.

Singh Saab(a turbaned Sunny) is the most feared man in a village up north. His bare fists, you overhear a couple of sidekicks say, are enough to keep an army of goondas in check. But he usually seeks badlav (change) and not badla (revenge).

A journalist (Amrita Rao) stumbles on Singh Saab's inglorious past that even includes a jail term. To put things in context, there's a flashback involving Saranjit Talwar (clean-shaven Sunny), an honest collector in Bhadori.

Life is beautiful, especially when he is snuggling with his young wife (debutant Urvashi Rautela). But as always, the hero's ideals are a thorn in the sides of the local hooligans. One maniacal character Bhoodev (Prakash Raj) wears kurtas made of floral prints and talks enough to tear your eardrums down.

Then fists of fury fly; a crass item song is sung, a sting operation is conducted and good triumphs over evil. The USP: the song daaru bandh in which Dharmendra, Sunny and Bobby, all of whom have two left feet, do their jig. It's sweet because they're so unpretentious.

SINGH SAAB THE GREAT !!!
Nov 30, 2013 10:54 PM4199 Views

Guru Govind Singh ji ne kaha hain ‘Paapi O se beenti karo, samjhao, agar woh phir bhi naa maane, toh sab ki bhalai ke liye talwar utha lo’. The Aam Aadmis of a remote village of North India formed an NGO group to fight against root level corruptions of India. They named the NGO as PEOPLES BEAT. Long time back, Sharanjit Talwar, the collector of Bhadori went to jail after taking a bribe of 10 crores INR. Shikha Chaturvedi, a journalist of Aaj Tak Tez News Channel was eager to know more about Sunny.

Sacchai se TRP nahi baanti. That’s why; some media channels always cook up spicy stories which are not 100% true. It is like adding some tiny pebbles in a sack of rice to have some more profits. Minnie was fed up of Sharanjit due to his transferable job. Chacha ne sahi kehati, umar da bada fark hain, pyar na kara, na kara, na kara. Sunny, Bobby and Dharmendra paa ji danced together in the party. Hai teri nazaakat kya kahene, tere bholepan pe mar baithe; meri aankhon mein tu parh le, dil pe tera naam likha hain; aaj peene de dhang se, daaru bandh kaal se.

Though in India, majority of collectors are corrupted ones, but, Mr. Talwar was an honest collector. The honest collector was shocked to hear that to get a loan from any Grameen or Rastriya Bank of India; a poor farmer has to give bribes. Rampal applied for a dairy loan of Rs.40000/- from a Rural Bank to buy a cow. After sanctioning that dairy loan of Rs. 40000/-, the Bank Manager of that Rural Branch took Rs. 8000/- as a bribe, the BDO took Rs. 6000/- as a bribe and the Joint BDO took Rs. 3000/- as a bribe from Rampal, a poor villager cum Aam Aadmi of Rural India. That’s why; Rampal also tried to give some amount as a bribe to the honest collector to give punishment to those bribe-takers by doing proper justice. Sharanjit made a new circular where if any government servant is found guilty of taking bribes with proper evidences and witnesses, then that government servant will be suspended from his/her job with immediate effect. There are so many businessmen in India who don’t even bother to pay Excise Duties and Income Taxes. Ultimately, it affects the Indian economy. The collector sent legal notices to all the corrupted businessmen of Bhadori to pay their pending Excise Duties and Income Taxes. The factories of Bhudeb Singh were shut down as per the legal notices.

The Collector ordered Bhudeb Singh to pay 32 crores 38 lakhs and 13 thousand INR as Excise Duties. Bhudeb Singh threatened the Collector for showing such aggressive attitude and that too in Bhadori area where the ancestors of Bhudeb Singh have been ruling it as Kings or Bahubalis. Hum hee state hain, hum hee center hain, Bhudeb hain hum, Bhooton ka Deb. Aap abhi tak haath jorhnewala Bhudeb dekhe hain, haath kaatnewala nahi. Why Sharanjit slapped Bhudeb? The Collector seized all the arms and ammunitions of Bhudeb. Out of anger, Bhudeb Singh injured some policemen. At that juncture, Uttar Pradesh had an allied government. That’s why; the then Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh had to take care of his allied political parties. Janata bahumat nahi deti hain toh kya kare, aise lakhero ka sunna parta hain. The Collector’s younger sister was about to get married to Ashwini. Ashwini’s dad was given an assignment. Jab Mehendi lag lag jaabe, jab chuda saj saj jaabe, kaatdiyan nahi nahi nahi. There was poison in the glass full of juices. Bhudeb Singh started playing the game. It was becoming intolerable for Minnie to see the humiliation of her husband. Sharanjit’s wife wrote her last letter. Later on, a nurse gave that letter to the Collector. Mr. Talwar attempted to murder Bhudeb Singh. The jailor was shocked to see him as a prisoner. Simar and Ashwini were told to go and settle at a place which is far away from Bhadori village.

Muhammad Iqbal helped Gullu to return back to the mainstream. The jailor gave a book of Swami Vivekananda to the prisoner. Samman paane ke liye bahut kuch khona parta hain. Paape! Badla nahi; Baadlao. Shikha Chaturvedi promised to give any media support to PEOPLES BEAT. Sunny came back to Bhadori village again, but, this time, as a mass leader of Aam Aadmis of India. Bhudeb Singh’s people were forced to clean the toilets near the Bhadori Railway Station. The Registrar of Bhudeb Singh University and Research Centre denied admission to many meritorious students as those students were not ready to pay donations for getting admission in that University. In India, in many reputed private schools and colleges, the donation system exists. It means, that a meritorious student of a poor family can never get admission in a good school whereas a dull student of a rich family get a chance to study at a good school. As a result, after 10 or 12 years, India fails to produce a great scientist, researcher or a doctor. All the young meritorious students got united to protest against the corrupted Registrar of that University. The Aaj Tak Tez Channel also helped them to show the live telecast of this protest throughout India. Swami Vivekananda ji ne kaha hain, ‘Utho jaago shaktisaali baano, kyon ki bali hamesha bakre ki di jaati hain, sher ki nahi; sher baano.’ Sunny felt happy as the common people of Bhadori area are getting united to fight against the corruption and the corrupted politicians of Uttar Pradesh. But, Sharanjit’s heart could never forget Minnie. Rang la mera sardar, tu mahi rang la mera sardar, kar loon tujhko pyar.

Bhudeb Singh recognized the Ex-Collector of Bhadori. Bhudeb organized a party. Kattha kaun sa lagaya, daali kaun si supari re, o khaike palang torh paan, tu bhi le le meri jaan; jee karein main phoonk daloon papiyon ki Lanka. Both Bhudeb Singh and Sharanjit Talwar did the respective video recording. Oye tu toh meri CD banayi hain, main toh teri 70 mm film banaa di. Bhudeb got arrested. Arrey ish desh mein neta ka bail hota hain, jail nahi. Simar came back with her hubby and son to meet her elder brother. Sometimes, some human relationships become the weakness of a strong gentleman. Bhudeb kidnapped Sharanjit’s younger sister and her son. Sharanjit kidnapped Bhudeb’s daughter and wife. The encounter continued until someone fired a bullet at Bhudeb’s daughter. Did the Ex-Collector take the sweet revenge? Why Dr. Anand’s son was still in trauma? Why the expert surgeon was not willing to do the medical operation of that girl? Why everyone started regarding Sunny as “SINGH SAAB THE GREAT”?

Sunny Deol-Anil Sharma Fail To Do Another Gadar!
Nov 24, 2013 08:59 AM3693 Views

A young schoolgirl is shot. She’s rushed to the hospital, outside the concerned doctor’s cabin. The doctor refuses to treat her(long story). Despite knowing the seriousness of the situation, our Singh Saab bade aaram se tells him ‘ek kissa sunata hoon…’! Such cheesy and unintentionally funny scenes make Singh Saab The Great a highly disappointing fare! It seemed like a desperate attempt on the part of the makers to cash on the Dabangg and Singham wave that anyways is slowly weaning off.

The story of the movie: Saranjit Talwar(Sunny Deol) is an honest collector who gets transferred innumerable times because of his righteous attitude. However, his wife Minni(Urvashi Rautela) and sister Simar(Anjali Abrol) stand by him and love and adore him. Finally, he gets posted in the town of Bhadori where the richest and the most corrupt man is Bhoodev Singh(Prakash Raj). As expected, Saranjit attempts to punish Bhoodev for tax evasion and even hurts his ego publically. A furious Bhoodev takes revenge because of which Saranjit’s world turns upside down. Instead of harboring thoughts of revenge(badla), he however decides to take the route of badlaav.

Singh Saab The Great actually boasts of an interesting synopsis but the script is laced with beaten to death sequences. We all have seen the heroic entry of the hero, dialoguebaazi, hero-villain confrontation etc. The intermission point, interestingly, reminds of the interval sequence of The Hero, also directed by Anil Sharma. The ‘badla nahi badlaav’ was such an impressive idea but the makers failed to treat it well. The film also gets too long and some sequences were plain ordinary.

On the positive side, Sunny Deol was at his best. The action scenes and some funny scenes made the film bearable. The best scene of the film was when Sunny throws Prakash Raj into the fire! Hilarious and clapworthy! Also, Bobby Deol and Dharmendra’s appearance in Daaru Band Kal Se song was a nice surprise.

Talking of performance, the film obviously rests of Sunny Deol’s very strong shoulders. As always, he plays his part with sincerity and perfection. Most importantly, it looks totally believable when he bashes up 20-30 people at a go! And this doesn’t happen with any other actor! At the same time, he also looks adorable in the emotional and romantic portions. However, it’s so sad to see the actor doing some disappointing films – first Yamla Pagla Deewana 2 and now Singh Saab The Great. Hope he gets back into his previous form; after all, he still has the charisma, the charm, the mardaangi and most importantly, love of his fans!

Amrita Rao(Shikha) is dependable and leaves a mark, although she’s hardly there in the first half. Urvashi Rautela performs very well and has an amazing screen presence. Anjali Abrol too shines, more so in the second hour. Prakash Raj is ferocious but as everyone is rightfully complaining, it’s high time he stops playing villain in these massy films for the next 2-3 years at least! Johny Lever and Sanjay Mishra add to the humour in the film. Manoj Pahwa, Yashpal Sharma, Amit Behl, Aseem Merchant and Shahbaz Khan were alright in their villainous roles. Same goes for Rajit Kapur. Simran Kumar was forgettable as compared to the other item girls. Dharmendra and Bobby Deol’s cameo appearances were amusing.

Music was just okay. The title song is the best of the lot followed by Daaru Band Kal Se. Monty Sharma’s background score is sans complaints. Same goes for Tinu Verma-Kanal Kannan’s action, Jayant Deshmukh’s sets and S Gopinath’s cinematography. Ashfaque Makrani’s editing could have been better and the shaky slow motion scenes were just not exciting.

Shaktimaan’s story is nothing new but definitely could have been moulded well to make for a riveting drama. But his dialogues had the right punch at places. Screenplay was faulty. Anil Sharma’s direction also doesn’t help much in saving the film. One realizes the film is disappointing with Sunny’s entry scene which was so shoddily directed. Although some sequences are very well executed these are few and far between. And this proves that Sharma still has the potential to come up with another Gadar. Hope to see him coming up with something better with his next!

On the whole, Singh Saab The Great is a disappointing fare. It ought to be a massy entertainer with clapworthy dialogues, action et al but turns out to be a damp squib. The film is stretched and the impact associated with a Sunny Deol-action film is just missing, although Sunny puts his best foot forward. Thumbs down!
