Shaadi No. 1 Movie Reviews

Tries too hard to make you laugh!!!
Nov 03, 2005 11:18 AM 3066 Views

Bollywood producers and directors had stopped releasing their films for one whole month-the month of Ramadan, when Muslim audiences prefer to stay away from cinema halls and as Muslim viewers form a large part of the total multiplex going audiences, film makers were hesitant to release their films, but now filmy season is back and this Diwali and Eid there are three Bollywood films that have released, one of which is director David Dhawan`s “Shaadi No.1”.The director who is known as the king of comedy has been ‘laughing’ all the way due to his last film`s success,”Maine Pyaar Kyun Kiya”.Will he repeat the same kind of success during this festive season, too,so that his Eid and Diwali can get even more exciting?

Puja Films.”Shaadi No.1”,produced by Vashu Bhagnani and directed by David Dhawan, stars Sanjay Dutt,Fardeen Khan,Zayed Khan,Sharman Joshi,Ayesha Takia,Esha Deol,Soha Ali Khan,Aarti Chabbria,Sophie,Riya Sen and Rajpal Yadav. This multi-starrer film had promised to make its viewers laugh throughout the film, but unfortunately it failed to do so because this film is inspired from several other comedy films made in Bollywood and when you have already heard a joke, you don`t laugh the next time you listen to it. Same is the problem with this film.

”Shaadi No.1” is the story of three married guys and who happen to be each other`s best friends. These three friends are Raj (Fardeen Khan),Veer (Zayed Khan) and Aryan (Sharman Joshi). These three friends have one common problem and that is their ‘married lives’.None of these men are satisfied with their wives as they don`t seem to have enough time for them.Raj`s wife is Bhavna (Ayesha Takia),who is so much busy in worshipping and doing ‘puja’ all the time (remember Tara Sharma from “Masti”?) that she does not seem to have enough time to ‘entertain’ Raj. Vir`s wife Diya (Esha Deol) wants to become a Bollywood actress and for that purpose she always remains with her Master ji (Rajpal yadav) who keeps on advicing her on everything. As Diya doesn`t get enough time off from her Master ji,Vir`s desires also remain unfulfilled.Aryan`s ‘case’ is actually the worst as his wife,Sonia (Soha Ali Khan) is a very busy person.Sonia is a lawyer and as she is always involved in her work, she doesn`t have enough time to spend with Aryan.Fed up of their lives, these three friends decide to commit suicide (reminded me somewhat of “No Entry”) but end up doing something else. They find a rich businessman,Kothari (Satish Shah),trying to commit suicide, whom these friends help from doing so. When they ask Kothari the reason behind committing suicide,he tells them that he has three daughters,Rekha (Aarti Chhabria),Dimple (Sophie) and Madhuri (Riya Sen),who are living abroad and plan not to get married according to his father`s choice (what a reason for committing suicide!).He asks these three guys to help him by making his daughters falling in love with them and then cheating upon them to discourage them from having love affairs that end up in love marriages (remember that something same happened in ”Baadshah”,when SRK was given the task of cheating upon Twinkel Khanna to discourage her from fallin in love again?).These three guys find this ‘mission’ exciting and decide to accomplish this mission as they are tired of their boring lives and want to do something as exciting as this task for some change,so they leave the country and go to do their task.Raj makes Rekha fall in love with him,Veer makes Dimple fall in love with him and Aryan makes Madhuri fall in love with him. After sometime, these three guys also actually fall in love with these girls and that`s when problems occur. When these guys get back to India their three girlfriends also arrive there and then appears the most threatening figure,Lucky bhaiya (Sanjay Dutt),who is a brother-like figure to Bhavna,Diya and Sonia.Lucky bhaiya is a very intelligent and witty person who immediately notices that there is something wrong with the guys and finds out that they are having extra-marital affairs. He tells their wives about this but they refuse to believe him but the three guys always have to remain very alert so that Lucky does not get them exposed infront of his wives. Now more confusions occur when the wives of these guys befriend their girlfriends not knowing that they are actually their husbands girlfriends. How will these three friends face such situations?

Sanjay Dutt whom we last time saw in a wonderful performance in ”Parineeta” is too loud in this film. His loud Punjabi accent fails to make the viewers laugh and on the contrary it seems very irritating and artificial. We have seen this actor earlier in many comedy films and we know that his comic timing is quite good but David Dhawan fails to extract a good performance from him this time.

Fardeen Khan looks uneasy while doing comedy. When you are performing a comic role, you need to have good comic timing and comic actors are those who have this inborn talent of making people laugh, but Fardeen Khan lacks this talent. He should stick to action roles.I do not mean to say he`s a bad actor but he can`t do comedy well and such things happen with many good actors, like Manisha Koirala who happens to be a very talented actress, still fails to make you laugh when she appears in comedy films or a decent actor such as Bobby deol also fails to make the viewers laugh when he does a comedy film.

Zayed Khan carries the same ‘cool dude’ attitude in this film. The acotr may look very cool, young and energetic but he has to prove himself as a good actor and that will definitely take some time.

Sharman Joshi is the best of the three main heroes of the film. Here is an actor who has the ability of making audiences laugh and that I judged way back in 2001,when his film ”Style” had released.Though,”Style” was a horrible movie, still I could see that this actor has good comic timing. After this film,he will be much in demand by producers or directors making comedy films.

Ayesha Takia is completely wasted and ditto for Soha Ali Khan.Of these three ladies who are playing the wives in the film,Esha Deol gets more footage and she is just about okay.

Aarti Chhabria makes a comeback after a number of B-grade films with Govinda and how! The actress who seemed so innocent and simple is actually wearing skimpy swimming costumes and running on the beach,in this movie.MTV VJ Sophie and Riya Sen are also there to just provide the oomph factor. These three ladies are just mere decoration pieces.

Rajpal Yadav looks cute and does manage to entertain the viewers but the same cannot be said about Satish Shah, who overacts.

Woh Aapne ek misaal to suni hi hogi ''Unchi Dukkan te Fikka Pakwaan''.This is what in all movie sanjay dutt used to do and I am also starting my review in his style. But won't be continuing that for a long.

What???Are you asking why...Think again....before I answer your question....Are you ready to hear that ?...Hmm...Ok

Well Sanjay Dutt spoiled the movie with his Be sar pair ke Missale err...Missile(What he says them in the movie) and I don't want to do same with my Review.

So lets leave Sanjay Dutt and his missile in side for the time being and look at How Shaadi No. 1 is.

Well if we keep simple and short Shaadi No.1 is utter crap and nothing else.It comes up with some comic scenes but those comical situations comes in tit bit and you lose your patience till they make you laugh.

The Plot...

Three Men Raj,Aryan,Veer are desperate for love which they never get from their wife (Bhavna,Sonia and Dia respectively) because they are jobless. One fine day when they decide to suicide, they save a Kothari form doing suicide. They solve his problems with their stupid illogical ideas and Kothari gave them job in his company. Every things goes fine till Kothari ask three boys to falsely fall in love to his three daughters, and ditch them later because he don't want her daughter to do love marriage.

Ab andho ko kya chaiye do aankhen.A soon Raj,Aryan and Veer see three hotties Rekha,Dimple and Madhuri, they began to lure and some how impress them and make them agree to marry them.

But here comes the problem for them in form of Lucky Bhaiya.Lucky make all of their plans fail.

How?Kaise?Kis tarah se??

For all this watch the movie.

I won't be telling is se jayada.

Kyu???

Kyunki Bataane ke liye kuch hai hi nahi.

Performance

On the whole there were so many stars in the movie and no one was defined as they should be. The main role was of Fardeen Khan,Zayed Khan and Sharman Joshi. All 6 ladies Ayesha,Eesha,Soha,Anjali,Ria and new comer Sophie were there only for songs and to play the Gharwaali's and baharwaali's like show piece.

Fardeen Khan is somewhat like in the same role as he did in recent release NO Entry. He was quite better in No Entry, but in Shaadi No. 1 he is pathetic. Not at all bearable.

Zayaad Khaan. I don't know what type of role he can fit for. Neither he can play romantic role nor hi fits in action movie. And this time comedy. He him self is a comedy when he acts in comic roles. I never understood his expression whether he is laughing or crying.

Sharman Joshy. Not much to say about him. He was looking yuck in the movie, but he was saved with dialogues he got in the movie. Yes he got the best dialogues in the movie and by luck his comic timings were in sync with dialogues.

Sanjay Dutt. As he was senior actor a lot was expected from him to save this movie. But Sorry to say in spite of saving the movie he was the biggest flaw in the movie and he drowned this movie form his very first scene.

Nothing to say much about the actresses of the movie as I told earlier they were just like Item piece to give an oomph effect in the movie. No one of them impresses as they haven't got any damn dialogue.

Satish Shah is ok.

Music...

I think if there were no songs in the movie ,it could have been better to tolerate this Movie. Untimely songs kept you sucking all time during the movie.

Only one song ''Dil Nahi Toda karte...'' was good to hear and yes was quite watchable due to dance.Rst of the songs....yuck...Better we dint talk. The lyrics were so pathetic. I couldn't digest the songs.

Dialogues

Hum panchee ek daal ke,Dhaage ek rumaal ke,Pimple ek gaal ke

Agar baarish mein nahan hi tha to rain coat pehan ke jaate(will understand this dialogue after watching movie)

Scenes

Only the introductory scene of the movie where three hero attempts for the suicide is worth mentioning. Rest all is forgettable

My Opinion...

This movie was really a torture. I accept being a David Dhawan film we shouldn't use our brain but at the same time director shouldn't take audience for granted. This time David Dhawan thought audience will accept anything which he will show them.

The movie started very well and made you laughing with some witty and double meaning dialouges. But tell you movie lost its pace as soon Sanjay Dutt comes in the movie. His missal dene ka style was bearable in the start, but guess what in whole of the movie he just talked everything in misaal's.His Punjabi accent was another woe.

Sorry to say but Sanjay Dutt was not in form this time. Just see his comic role in Munna Bhai MBBS,Haseena Maan Jaayegi etc.But this one was far away from those.

Screenplay was so poor that some times you can’t co relate the scenes and you will find yourself unable to understand what's happening.

The movie was good in start and as a whole good in first half. But second half tortured and tortured till you screamed.

And please don’t watch the climax of the movie ,You will surely bang your head. The worst part of the movie.

So the bottom line is watch Garam Masala instead of this Bakwaas No 1

I hope you will comment to sooth me,so that I can forget the torture I had while watching the movie

-Sachien
