SAAWAN

Film: SAAWAN

Cast: Salman Khan, Kapil Jhaveri, Saloni Aswani, Prem Chopra, Ranjeet, Bobby Darling, Kiran Rathod, Johny Lever

Directed by: Sawan Kumar Tak

If there is any movie, which is utterly predictable, it is Saawan. Starring the muscle heartthrob of the nation, Salman Khan; the film has otherwise quite ordinary actors. The film seems to be effectively divided into two halfs. The first interval concentrates on the courtship of the hero and the heroine, played by Kapil Jhaveri (Raj) and Saloni Aswani (Kajal). They seem to be the perfect pair - young, beautiful and dumb. The film is interspersed with chortles of laughter and fun with Johnny Lever and Bobby Darling playing extremely jocund characters.

Things get really serious in the second half of the movie. With that scintillating song featuring Salman Khan as the messenger of death, a whole new dimension is ushered into the movie. Salman Khan informs Kajal about the death of her father on a particular date at a particular time, which amazingly turns out to be true. Thereafter, Kajal is intent on knowing about her life and death and the mystic astrologer tells her about that too. This is where things really begin to take a turn. Salman informs Kajal about the day of her death. This puts Kajal into a tizzy. She is determined to die a complete woman. Her boyfriend, Raj is not willing to accept the prophecy and refuses to believe anything that Kajal says about it. But all too often, the plot begins to don a very familiar and stereotypal characteristic. One can even predict the flow of events after a certain point of time. The starting as well as the ending are way too unrealistic and far fetched. Probably, director Sawan Kumar Tak should have raked his brain a little more in devising a better scene sequence. All in all, the film is aimed at the faint-hearted and could serve as a good means to kill time.

Saawan fails to blossom in this season

Saawan

Director: Sawan Kumar Tak

Starring: Salman Khan, Kapil Jhaveri, Saloni Aswani, Prem Chopra, Ranjeet, Bobby Darling, Kiran Rathod, Johny Lever

Music Dir: Aadesh Shrivastava, Sajid, Wajid

In our Film Industries Its experiment with new subject and treatment. But how many times the films with "zara hatke" look have delivered the needful. They have succeeded sometimes and failed many times and this film comes out as another big loser of this year.

No matter how different Saawan Kumar has tried to present this thriller-cum-love saga but the final result is a big disappointment. The unimpressive and raw debutantes, aging and fading style of filmmaking, preposterously planted script and above all below average direction speaks for the sorry state of this low profile love saga.

'Saawan - The Love Season' is in no way an autobiographical attempt by producer-director Saawan Kumar Tak. This is an attempt to attract overseas viewers and thinking audiences with the concept of prophecies and premonitions. It might sound crazy but the filmmaker tries hard to generate interest in viewers with quizzical promos and unexplained one-liners.

Even the tragic moments where the heroine loses his father is complemented with happy-go-lucky trip to Dubai with his boyfriend. The protagonist Salman Khan is projected as tormented and lonely lover but no reasons for his painful love story and lost love (Kiran Rathod in special appearance). The authenticity and morality of characters and the story is questioned many times in this poorly conceived supernatural thriller.

'Saawan-The Love Season' is the love story of happy-go-lucky Kajal (Saloni), who is enjoying her life to the extreme with her friends in the urban town of Capetown. The film starts off with Kajal dancing and singing with her friends (with mismatched dancing steps) on the exotic locations of Capetown, South Africa.

The tragic moments in the film are there to create emotions but this generates loads of laughter. Salman Khan gets the final verdict from the God that his soul will be transferred in Kajal's body after his death. He fights with Raj and succumbs to his brutal beating. Kajal is alive once again but the prospects of film die before it could germinate.

Salman Khan is the only exceptional positive trait of the film but his brief and short-lived appearance is not sufficient for film to survive. Aadesh Srivastav's music has some impressive tracks like "Tu Bhula De" and the title track but the rest of the tracks retard the pace of the film. Prem Chopra and Ranjeet justify their characters in short appearances.

Johny Lever and Bobby Darling share some comical titillating moments and impress too. In nutshell 'Saawan - A Love Season' fails to blossom in this season and will fall without reasons.

Dude.....where's the plot.?

Saawan the crappy season

There is only on e reason as to why people would go to this movie- Salman Khan(Though he looks like a he has justcome out of jail. he he!)

It is really a two minute story which is extended to full length other wise it would be equilvalent a commercial.

Salman is havin bad days and this movie reinforces this very fact. Luckily for him people still like him (No Offence really but he does give a good performance but does a crappy movie).

The movie has no PLOT. All other characters are filler items not to mention johny lever and bobby . I dont get why they are there... ahh got it people might get atleast some entertainment in the whole movie.

Salman Can see the future (in this movie ofcourse otherwise we wouldnt have done the movie and niether killed the animal and.... list goes on) and predicts That a girl is going to die in a week or so .

Now if he know the unevitable I dont get why the hell he saves her.

And secondly he only sees worst things in the future(messenger from Yama)

It is quite unbeliveable for girl to seem unperturbed by death and even more unblievable as to how she breaks this news to her boy friend.

this is an excuse for movie. so dont waste ur precious time and money on this shitty movie

Another movie and and still same reaction , ''Maine picture Kyun dekha''

Sometimes, an interesting idea loses its sheen due to inept execution. That's precisely what happens with Sawaan The love season .The story had all the trappings of an edge of the seat experience, but the screenplay lets you down completely. Also, the finale - which should've been a highpoint for a film of this genre - is absolutely tame.

The movie starts with Raj (Kapel Jhaveri) meeting Kajal in Cape Town, where both have come -- separately -- for a holiday. The new lovers also realise their fathers are friends. TWhen they come back to Mumbai, Kajal bumps into Salman, who promptly saves her life, predicts her father's death and rescues her niece from a terrorist.

And Salman predicts Kajal will die in a week. Does his prediction come true? The answers were so strange that they only raised further questions......

There's hardly any movement in the first half of the film. Even the love story – boys falling in love with girl – shows no movement in the first half. It is only towards the second half that things get moving, but too many tracks – specially the Johny Lever track – looks forced and completely out of place.

The Salman Khan song could've proved to be a major attraction, but its picturisation seems like a rushed job. Also, the set on which this number is picturised is tacky.

Salman tries hard to infuse life in his character and he succeeds partly. Kapil is strictly okay. Saloni is alright.

On the whole, Sawaan has been released without any hype whatsoever. Even otherwise, the film lacks in merits to sustain in the coming days.

Mindblowing Stuff
Apr 10, 2006 10:43 PM 4813 Views

Saawan is a mind blowing movie.

It blows your mind out of your skull and makes it hollow. Take it from me, I hereby serve a notice to the Minister of Health to set up 100% reservation quota on this. Reserve the theatres and multiplexes for lunatics, maniacs, psychos to come and watch this flick to have a share of similar fun on screen.

Saawan! The color of love.

The director is Saawan Kumar Tak and the color of the movie is Purple/Pink (PP). The movie follows a niche color theme to appeal the audiences and give them the color of love. The herione wears PP i.e. PP top, lipstick, hair color, car color etc etc. The guy isnt far behind he wears PP tshirts and also sports a lipstick too..AAArrgh!!

Saawan! Jhonny Lever (its Spelt that way)

He pulls out all ends to make you laugh. All ends end. The outcome is pale delirium enticing stuff. Add to that Bobby Darling and the jokes, one would think 1000 times to laugh on.

Saawan! The Salmaan Lollypop

I won't blame Salmaan, He does a 20 mins extraordinary appearence in the movie which includes a decent song near the camp fire and an item girl last seen above Hrithik Roshan in Yaadein and in Souten she was the other women. She shows off but wears a too much for my comfort :P. Salmaan did the movie for free as the movie went overbudget.

Saawan! Overbudget (Speechless :-o)

Calling Saawan an overbudget film is like calling Fun a family entertainer.

Producer SKT i.e. Saawan Kumar Tak spent everything in Song and dance. The movie looks like a long music video of some flop pop singing mis(sensation).

Saawan! Star Cast

Kajal (Saloni Aswani) and Raj (Kapel Jhaveri) are the PP couples in the movie. They aren't remotely passable infact they should be ignored completely.

Saawan! The Technicalities

Cinematography. I dare to say Saawan is a worst piece of it that I have seen in recent times. Unnecessary zooms, screechy and hazy sunset shots and even murky frames in many of the sequences. It was torrid and low grade. Thanks to locales they chose else it would have been worse.

Music barring a track sung by Sonu Nigam fortunately for the audience picturized on Salmaan is okish rest all are like PP (read pee pee) time. Aadesh Srivastava has wasted himself on this project.

Screenplay. I am aghast by the story telling which is for no one. Not even for masses. Story is lost between million song and dance sequences and frustrating and tiring love sequences between the 2 PPs.

SKT needs lessons like

We are in 2006. We arent in 1986.

Dont fool with the people. 15 mins of Salmaan Khan and you sell the movie with his face painted all over.

Color scheme ala Black style. This movie can easily be renamed as Pink or PP :P.

Go on a holiday and enjoy the love season, start from the locales you used in the movie.

Saawan!

For those who still want to know the story, in comes the fast paced kick out description. Love lorn couples are about to get married. To show case this we have song and dance sequences and good locales backed by dull cinematography. In comes the man who sees tommorow who connects with the God and knows about the future. The gal gets to know that she would die on a dreadful friday. Why dreadful coz its made to look dreadful for the audience and especially the slowness ith which the story moves to the finale.

1) Does the gal die? ting ting

2) Will hero save her from God's wrath? ting ting

3) What will Salmaan do or what happens to him? ting ting

4) What happens to the movie? ting ting.

For all the answers no need to watch the movie. Coz the answer for 1 and 2 is yes and no and for 3 & 4 is NOTHING and that too big NOTHING. Cutting the crap and the word limit, Stay away from this so called love season.

Sawaan tells the story of Raj (Kapel Jhaveri) and Kajal (Saloni Aswani) who meet in Cape Town and naturally fall in love .A call to their respective parents and the engagement is fixed. Then there is Salman Khan weeping and singing a sad number in memory of his dead girlfriend. He's pleading with God to kill him as he has no desire to live. God informs him of the next tragedy that will strike somewhere. He's like God's messenger. He even averts a couple of disasters. One of them is saving Kajal from a major road accident. She thanks him profusely and he tells her that her father will die at 9 p.m. today. It's her birthday as well as her engagement today. A shocked Kajal goes through the formalities and is scared as the stipulated time for her father's death is nearing. The clock strikes 9 and the father dies. Kajal is on the prowl for the strange man who communicates with God. A few predictions later, he even predicts her death on Friday. Initially she's depressed but decides to live life to the fullest till Friday. .....The first few reels of the flick are indeed engaging. Director Sawaan Kumar succeeds in presenting several interesting moments at the very start. The sequences between Saloni and Kapeel are uproariously funny. Ditto for their scenes with Johny Lever. The narrative gathers momentum with Salman Khan emerging on the scene and the interval point raises hopes for a dramatic second .Alas! The post-interval portions belies the expectations. And that's mainly because screenplay writer has tried to incorporate too many tracks in the plot.Post-interval, you see Salman weeping, the road accident track, then the climax with heavy dose of sermonising! Too complicated! The saving grace in the latter half is Salman's experimentation with his looks Director Sawaan deserves marks for making an effort to come up with something different, but he is handicapped by a weak screenplay. Even the climax is an absolute letdown and seems incomplete. Music is ear-pleasing and easy on the lips. Cinematography is routine. Dialogues are just about okaySalman hams to the hilt.Saloni and Kapeel are passable. Sawaan is saddled by a weak script and will not find many takers. Watch it only if you want a headache..

Poor fare
Apr 10, 2006 12:38 AM 3544 Views

Sawan suffers mainly because of its weak screenplay!

In an attempt to package just about everything in the film, writer has not been able to do justice to the plot.what takes the graph of the film down is the slow pace it moves ahead. The narrative moves at a sluggish pace and the impact gets diluted. Also the climax, which should've been the highpoint, looks least convincing.

It is the love story of happy-go-lucky Kajal (Saloni), who is enjoying her life to the extreme with her friends in the urban town of Capetown. There, she meets rich and handsome boy Raj (Kapil Jhaveri) in party hangout carnival and ultimately love. Finally, the lovers get the approval from their parents (Prem Chopra and Ranjeet) and the engagement is fixed. One fateful day Kajal is rescued from road accident by an unknown stranger (Salman Khan). Kajal feels obliged and offers her gratitude but he predicts her father's death on her engagement day. The fateful day comes and Kajal's father dies of heart attack. Kajal's faith in this God's messenger grows vigorously and she meets him again. This time he predicts the deadly road accident on Mumbai-Pune Highway and it comes true too. Horrified from calamities and disasters she meets him to know her future.

She is shocked to hear that she is very close to her death. Raj tries to console Kajal but her faith makes her believe in the supernatural powers. Kajal is shot accidentally as predicted on the fateful Friday in a police encounter.

The final prediction of Kajal's death is about to come true. Raj is petrified and shaken with this event and goes to the stranger's place.

Salman emotes well, but is a complete miscast in the role. A younger hero would've been a more suitable choice.Saloni doesn't get enough scope to display histrionics. Kapeel is alright.Music is apassableand at least two numbers can easily be singled out – the title track and 'MAINE'. Cinematography is okay,

All up Sawaan is too ordinary a fare to leave any impact whatsoever

Weird movie...
Apr 09, 2006 10:37 PM 3383 Views

Saawan, directed by Saawan Kumar, is a love story that follows the insane patH from the very first scene!

Raj (Kapil Jhaveri) and Kajal (Saloni Aswani) are holidaying in Cape Town. After a little persuasion, the love-struck boy manages to win the girl’s heart, following which the two go about singing and dancing to their heart’s content.

To the further convenience of the two lovers, their fathers also turn out to be childhood friends.

Lightening strikes when a strange man (Salman Khan), a man gifted with an ability to see the future in one prediction, he declares to the heroine that her father would die at night.

The prediction comes true. Next, he predicts that the heroine (Kajal) herself would die in the coming days. What happens next?

To state that the story is weird and tests the intelligence of viewer would not be wrong. Besides an unengaging plot, the storytelling is equally lackluster.

Saawan Kumar, who has scripted the film as well, has left too many questions unanswered. Besides, the screenplay is interspersed with too many songs, which keep coming at regular intervals, without any situation to justify them. Even the romantic track is far from convincing.Clearly, originality and freshness are missing in the enterprise.

Directorially, the film fails to engross one's attention. Music is poor beyond imagination. Cinematography is functional.

Salman Khan tries hard to act, but fails. Saloni is plain average. Kapil Jhevari is alright.

Saawan is aimed to be another disaster in Salman's cap after Kyon KI..

Sawan - A wasted opportunity
Apr 07, 2006 08:36 PM 5136 Views

Come friends,

Lets go to Cape Town, South Africa. Nice locations. Isn't it? Can you see some Penguins there? Hey, here comes our Hero (Kapeel Jhevani) and Heroine (Saloni Aswani). Trying to find the meaning of coincidence and destiny, they fall in love. Can you see them dancing in those beautiful locations? The love story blooms. Their parents (Renjeet & Prem Chopra) are childhood friends both were poor, now become rich. So, no problem for the marriage. The engagement is fixed in Mumbai, in Saloni's birthday.

So, what are we doing in Cape Town? Take next flight and come to Mumbai. Meet our Super Star Hero Salman, who got a sim card from God, which only accept messages and cannot send messages. Mind you, God send only bad messages to him, so much so that he asking god, am I Yama's messenger? Salman saves Saloni from death with the help of God's message and immediately predict the death of her father. It happend as predicted by Salman, eventhough doctors had confirmed that her father is in good health. Bad for her, Isn't it? What to do?

Comon... take next flight, go to Dubai. Go for shopping at Ibn Battuta mall. Can't you see the good shopping mall? The heritage show there? A good belli dancing is arranged. Hero Heroine sing and dance. They went out for sight seeing, a desert safari with dune bashing and they are in good mood..... comes call from India, missed parents.... what to do? Take next flight to India.....

Comes a call from Saloni's relative to pick her daughter from School. Saloni agrees. When she reach school, the students of the school is been taken hostage by few terrorists. Salman saves the life of school children from the terrorist who don't know to fire to a 5 meter distant object. With the help of God, even the dangerous terrorist cannot move the trigger of the Machine Gun... The child tell Saloni that she prayed for God and God sent Godman...

Now, suddenly Saloni want to know her destiny. Salman cannot say anything, because he can only tell what God give as a message. Salman make another prediction.... It also happens. Now She went to Salman again, to know about her destiny.....

Hey, now it is only few lines left. It is not correct to tell the whole story; right?

Frankly, Sawan The Love Season is an opportunity wasted. The idea of the script were promising. But failed to convert to a good script. Result? The film ends up as a below average fare.

Telling about the new comer hero heroine, Kapeel Jhevani could not make an impression, eventhough in some of the scenes he leaves few glimpses of hope. Saloni Aswani got more footage and she looks promising. Salman is good in his looks. Bad in dialogue delivery. In the first few scenes you simply think that he deliver dialogues as in dream. Sometimes you feel he is blind. But, in later few scenes he performs well. Johny Lever and Bobby Darling try to tickle your ribs, but not so affective. There is nothing much to write about rest of the cast, because there are hardly few left.

Music of the film is average. Had they promoted the songs well, it would have done good to the movie. At least 2 of the songs are good to listen.

Choreaography is strictly ok. Cinematography by Rajendra Prasad is average. But, the sequences in Dubai is been well shot and the Song at the Mall is very well executed with nice and rich colour.

There is nothing much to say about the script and the dialogues.

Direction is not upto mark.

The film is only less than 2 hours in time. An additional angle of Salman - Saloni love (previous life love or some angle of that kind) could have been easily accomodated. The film gives a hint that she is somehow connected to Salman. But, fail to explain what.

An accepted young hero like Akshay Khanna or Abhishek Bhachan in the lead would have made a difference.

Except for few good songs and some good locations, Sawan The Love Season is an opportunity wasted.

Akin to acidic rain
Apr 07, 2006 12:38 PM 4120 Views

Cast: Salman Khan, Kapil Jhaveri and Saloni Aswani,

Direction: Saawan Kumar

Music: Aadesh Shrivastava

Release Date-6th April ,2006

Saawan The Love Season, as the title suggests, is a love story with some chilling moment. Anything new? No, because stories such as the one in this film have been witnessed umpteenth times earlier. The film loses its sheen mainly due to sloppy writing and to an extent, due to Saawan Kumar's execution.

Salman plays a prescient character who can see calamities and unfortunate events that lie in future. In one such premonition, he makes a shocking prediction to the movie’s heroine Saloni Aswani when she is about to marry her sweetheart. And Salman predicts she will die in a week.

Then all the hell breaks.....

What could've been an engaging saga does an about-turn soon after it takes off. Yes, a few clever sequences do tease your mind - those between Salman and Kiran Rathod deserve a mention - but the writer relies too heavily on hackneyed stuff to carry the story forward.

Frankly, the plot is never all that convoluted and after a point it's start to test the patience of viewer. Besides, the pacing gets slow, and the film somehow needs over two hours to tell a very simple story that ultimately goes nowhere.

Saawan Kumar is an extremely competent director. But the way in which he takes us where he wants us to go is joyless, and without much intensity. At times, film also looks like a rushed job. The film may be a notch above his last few works Dil Pardesi Ho gaya, chand ka tukda, but when compared to Sanam Bewafa and Souten it pales considerably.

Music is passable. The tunes sound repetitive and the fact that they aren't promoted to the optimum, do further harm. Cinematography is just about okay. Dialogues are well penned.

Salman looks ill at ease in a role that demands histrionics. At times disinterested, at times not too expressive, Kapeel Jhevari just doesn't convince. Saloni does her part well, getting into the skin of the character. The remaining cast is passable, endorsing their parts mechanically.

ALL UP Saawan is akin to acidic rain. At the box-office, the film will find difficult to remain afloat not only because it's weak in merits, but also because it has been released without a proper build-up/promotion. Below average!
