Good movie

If you are interested in watching realistic, and sensual movies, this one is a must watch for you.

I saw rockford in my home, not knowing the very fact about the content its made of,and just at the beginning of the movie,i understood this cant be seen with the family.

But hey,at least the movie is realistic, and that means a lot..at least to me.

The story is in about a boy in an andhra town where his parents put him in the boarding school right away.

after that what happens is obvious. He undergoes ragging , does some silly stuffs , and what is even more silly , his school teachers are sillier still. A nd in midst of all this , the boy goes ahead to do something sillier still . He falls in love with a girl of a convent school nearby.

Now if I tell you all the story, it would be the most silly thing ever . So go and watch the movie , it's a good movie.

INTRO--

The movie chronicles the arrival of a (Hindu) student to a strict all-boys Christian boarding school in India and his assimilation into the school. The change is quite dramatic to the protagonist and there are a lot of events that would look extremely abusive to the viewer.

PLOT-- (Short and sweet) Mr. and Mrs. Naidu admit their son, Rajesh Naidu (Rohan Dey) at the Catholic School called Rockford School. There Rajesh is meant to spend his time to learn and play, make enemies and friends. And he does so. He also becomes romantically involved with Malati (Usha Krishnamurthy) from a nearby girls Catholic school. He also gets indirectly involved with Malati's friend, Shariyar (Shilpa Pai), and a School-teacher, who is accused of demanding sexual favors from Shariyar. Apart from coming to the aid of this school-teacher, Rajesh must also endure bullying and ragging by senior boys from this school, and his crush on another school-teacher, Ms. Lily Vegas (Nandita Das).

My views---Nagesh Kukunoor has presented one of the most wonderful, simple and realistic portrayals of pubescent kids growing up in a convent and dealing with their life, their world on their terms. A fantastic script that has been competently directed and crisply edited, Rockford had me smiling the throughout the film. Kukunoor deals with the issues of 12-13-14 year olds with such seriousness and sincerety that you appreciate his respect for the audience's intelligence. All of the child actors in the film are extremely natural and portray themsevles as aspriring adults that you can relate to (having been there, done that) rather than some cliched caricatures. The protagonists struggle with his self-esteem, his self-image; the influence of his mentor on his life and his victorious struggle with his demons (literally speaking) was funny, moving and most definitely brilliant.

USP- ---

Otherwise not a great piece of cinematic pleasure, this movie is no ''BLACK'' that any director can boast off, but this movie has its own place and leaves an impact on the mind of the viewers. The biggest USP of this movie is its language. Dialogues are in English (Best part is the accent of most of the crew is stupendous, u wnt feel patrified with some south Indian or punjabi touch with English language) MOst of the characters are young, which make the movie as fresh as a new born. Apart from Nagesh Kukunoor and Nandita, u wnt find many familiar faces in the movie. Some scenes are pretty bold, but can be related with life of any off the hostel groomed student. Well! all of us who have had seen hostel life, would easily relate with the situation presented in this movie.

LAST WORD- A must watch for all teens, and even if u have grown up enough to be called as teens, u will still enjoy this situational comedy.

Rockford hits rock bottom

Maybe I shouldn't be so harsh with Nagesh, but what can you say about a movie which is amateurish at best. Lets see what went wrong -

Story

The story revolves around how a kid Rajesh Naidu fares in his new school, Rockford - culminating in his transformation from an innocent shy lad, to a confident young boy.His source of inspiration is his teacher (I may have got the formal relationship wrong), played by Nagesh.

A few facts

This is Nagesh Kukunoor's (henceforth called NK) second film - the first being Hyderabad Blues.

As is his norm, he has directed and acted in this movie.

Nandita Das appears in this movie - she is seen walking from one end of the screen to the other end and is usually gone before you can say 'There goes Nandita Das'.

It took 32 days to make this movie - and it shows.

More people listened to the music than saw this movie.

Now, the fun begins

When I saw Hyderabad Blues, the simplicity, humour and talent of the director caught my attention. NK displays glimpses of this quality in Rockford, but this soon gets lost in the confusion that he creates while trying to show boarding-school life through the eyes of an impressionable young guy.

If I were to point out one thing that killed this movie, it would be the editing. The scenes ended abruptly, and the audience had to make an effort to pick up the threads before they could gauge the next scene.

The acting was amateurish too - the eyes simply did not convince the characters' emotions. Nobody looked comfortable - not even NK... you could actually feel the effort in their acting and dialogue delivery.

In an effort to add substance to the story, NK simply dragged it by adding a twist in the middle. To make matters worse, thats what shattered the young audience viewership - what was added was a molestation charge on NK's character in the movie. Apart from all this, the screenplay was horrendous. I think this is one area which completely exposes NK's amateurishness(did I say this right?) as a director (cum writer).

My Recommendations

I know very few individuals who do not have fond memories of their girlhood or boyhood years. However, Rockford does not provide an outlet to reminisce about them.

I would strongly recommend watching this movie if you are planning to make your own and need desperate advice as to what not to do; or maybe you have a paper to submit describing directors who took a step backwards; or to get an idea of what editing and screenplay is all about; barring this select few I would say Rockford simply does not rock.
