I am a great fan of Hindi horror movies. Suffice it to say, I have watched almost every Hindi horror movie that has come on celluloid. Why? Because I like the age old funds of good triumphing over evil, and god vanquishing the rakshas, so to speak. I had heard from a friend that Kamal Hasan had acted in a horror movie. While it is not strange for actors in the south to do such things, the aura that Kamal has around him led me to purchase this movie.
As the title suggests, Pyaasa Shaitaan is the story of a man who sells his soul to the devil so that he can remain young and handsome forever. This ''Shaitaan ka Pujari'', played by Kamal Hasan, is ordered by the devil to bring 7 virgins to him, so that the devil can arise and rule the world. This devil is played by a gangster you might remember from the movies Hukumat and Loha.
The movie is all about how Kamal seduces the nubile young females, and how he finally comes around. The movie is filled with some sexual stuff, which is but expected. It is a dub of a Malayalam movie. Kamal Hasan has totally wasted himself, though his enactment of how he worships the devil is awesome. The story is non-existent, only reaching a turning point where Kamal falls in love with the 7th victim and refuses to get her to the devil.
In the end, he catches his own daughter, born from her, and tries to sacrifice her. On knowing the truth, he sacrifices himself and kills the devil. I have this movie, because I don't think Kamal will commit another mistake like this. All said and done, the movie is fun to watch, as all Hindi horror movies are. Watch it, just for Kamal, and for those who want another incentive, the sexual encounters.
