Money Hai Toh Honey Hai Reviews

Money hai to kuch aur dekh lo...
Jul 30, 2008 12:53 PM 2089 Views

Well-directed mindless comedies were once considered stress busters. But now with every Tom Dick and Harry trying their hands on it has made it a nuisance. One such is Ganesh Acharya's new flick Money Hai Toh Honey Hai.

Money Hai Toh Honey directed by Ganesh of Swami fame stars Govinda, Upen Patel, Aftab Shivdasani, Manoj Bajpai, Celina Jaitely and Hansika Motwani in the lead roles.

This movie deals with six individual characters. Bobby is a happy go lucky guy, who runs away from home to prove him. Lalabhai becomes wealthy after his win of 1 crore rupees in lottery. But he's back on the road as his business fails and he loses all his money.

Gaurav, a copy writer is fired from his job. Manik is a struggling model who sleeps with a middle-aged fashion designer, hoping to make it big. Ashima Kapoor is a successful TV star but she's not happy with her career and is desperate to do films as the lead heroine. Shruti is a struggling dress designer.

One fine day, they all get an SMS informing them that they are the owners of a 1000 crore company. However, their happiness do not last long for their lawyer reveals that there's a loan of 1200 crore on the company and they must repay it and until the loan is repaid, they would be kept under house arrest.

With Swami, director Ganesh looked promising, but with Money Hai Toh Honey Hai all hopes pinned on him by the distributors seems to have been crushed to bits. The first half of the movie is spent in drawing connections between the characters and telling the tale of the losers with a song that features the director himself. In the second half they are willed a 1000 crore company with 1200 crore debt with a bank by a maniac. I agree that the story line is not riveting and it need not be but it neither has anything in it to keep us entertained. Instead of sticking on to one core issue, the plot wanders into a number of meaningless subplots and makes it even more tedious to sit through. Money Hai Toh Honey Hai disappoints in all aspects. Forget some side splitting comedy; the movie hardly has anything in to for us to even flex our facial muscle.

Money Hai Toh Honey Hai with a capable star cast could have done better if not for the appalling script. Music is good but emerges in places which make no sense and reason. Dialogues are okay while cinematography is good.

Story

Looney is on the verge of losing it completely. He sits on a blue throne look alike chair and tries to flip-flop and meddle with numbers. He believes in numerology in short and his lucky number is six. Did I mention he is the owner of a large textile mill and he needs successor/s to run his company. Anyways so looney picks up six mobile (?)numbers which add up to the number six, to be his successors.

One belongs to Canny, who as per his name has canny abilities to convince  people with his sweet talk. His family has a rich dad and a serial mom (the same one who cares more for daily soaps than her life).Canny decides to stand on his leather trouser encased feet for once and leaves home in the search of a living. On some successful/failed attempts and trying to impress a customer by a bad wigged look alike of Vijay Mallaya, he finally ends up on Looney’s estate.

The second chosen one is Bunny, complete with her habits and the cute bunny pout, she is the Kekta’s Meera aka Tulsi. She rules the TV world but yearns to be the bunny of the glamour world of bollywood. With trial and error ,not to forget the atrocious dresses and mannerisms, she manages to join Canny and others. Of course a romance kindles between Canny and Bunny, which makes the screen look like a  ruiny (ohh heck for the rhyming process).

Another pick from the lucky lot is Dummy, just for the reason that he stands like a dummy throughout the movie. His ideas or taglines for the advertising world are as dumb as the expressions on his face. He utters a few lines here and there and tries to patch it with a typical dummy smile. His bomb of girlfriend dumps him for other, and Dummy also reaches the same destination as Canny and Bunny.

Sunny is the most enthusiastic of lot. He never loses hope, whatever might be the situation and looks at the bright and sunny side of the situation. After many attempts and losing a lot of money, he still cashes on the experience. From detoriating from a car to a moped to a cycle, he looks reasonably sunny and excited. Luck shines on him in the form of being the chosen one for the estate too.

Horny with his drop dead looks and physique is a supermodel. He can be found on all the posters of local made under wears, oils, viagras and capsules. He is trying his luck hard to get a breakthrough in fashion world . His efforts to woo girls ends him up with aunties, and in the attempt of saving himself from further disgrace finds himself at Looney’s whims and fancies.

Nanhiis a complete no-no. She is a dress designer trying to struggle in the fashion world, the acting skills and of course the blank expression on her face. Less said is better for her. She is also the contender of Looney’s will and of course her pair with dummy is made in heaven

Gunny is the villain of the movie and tries to look funnily fearsome. He tries to hide his Bhojpuri lingo and image in well ironed purple suits. He brainwaves like a mouse and brings in more apathy than fright.

Aur wahin tries to spice up the movie with showbiz and glamour (?).No value additions.

All of them together try to create a masterpiece of a comedy combined with romance , thrill ,adventure and something.  A few jokes do take a blind shot here and there but on and on they go in an aimless search.

Song sequences are better  if forgotten completely because just by the mere glance of Bunny trying to show a few steps with double size Main Bhi, may do wonders to digestion.

Horny  busy showing off his brawn and chasing girls on the beach, looks as ridiculous as it sounds .

Canny and bunny also try to show their romantic side but who’s interested.

Tummy comes in for the best view of her abs and tries to shake a leg too with Canny.

Cinematography looks fine in few places where there is the farthest shot, Any close angles will make you look at the details of the carefully powdered lines on Canny’s face, or oodles of makeup on Bunny’s.

Editing just keeps on trying its luck in the movie because it can only work if the script is strong enough to take it. Surprises in form of out of blue scenes are sprung, and it feels that Main Bhi is just trying his luck by trial and error method. In fact the only place he gives his best shot is where he is dancing rather than directing.

The missing story:

Once upon a time there was a Main Bhi who needed a bunch of fools and a bad script to show off his hippo size on the dance floor. He lived happily ever after. !

Money is the stored value of our efforts.   If it is not, it should be so.  When somebody offers us free money, it will not remain with us unless we earn them before or after receiving it.    One who realizes the value of money will not find a money shortage but many other shortages.  May be an idea shortage, people shortage, lack of a plan or even lack of will.

Money Hai Toh Honey Hai is a very good entertainer with sufficient load of humour, glamour and visuals.  The story is beaten to death kind but when it come to entertainment there is no problems whatsoever.  It is told for the new generation in style.

It is a story of 6 people (Govinda, Aftab Shivdasani, Manoj Bajpai, Upen Patel, Celina Jaitely & Hansika Motwani) all lives in different places and different circumstances.   All of them are struggling in life but all learns the importance of money.  All learn from life's mistakes too.   A multi million dollar businessman (Prem Chopra) selected these 6 people (By an instinct when he was not in his normal mind) as his heir to own and operate his business.  The film is all about how they are going to make the attempt a success.

Ganesh Acharya as a director deserves applauds and this is going to keep him busy in the same genre of movies.

Overall performance of the cast is superb, each fit into the characters well.    Govinda is in his usual self and he looks quite young in the film.  His all out enthusiasm is showing and he is here to stay.   Aftabis cool.   Celina Jaitely excels in her role, especially during the climax scenes.   Hansika looks cute and her innocent TV actress role created some good fun.    Upen Patel well fit the role assigned to him.  Manoj Bajpai is hilarious.  Archana puran singh is too good as usual.    Kim Sharma only had a small role.    Prem Chopra & Javed Shaikh was very good.   Esha Deol was cool in her guest appearance.

Music of the film is peppy and to the mood of the film.  It is tailor made for the Ace choreographer.  I will consider the hot and spicy Choreography as one of the highlights of the film.   Ganesh Acharya Make some good experiments in choreography to make the songs more appealing.         In one song Gnesh Acharya himself presents his skill and mesmerise us.  Excellent!!

Cinematography by Sethu Sriram is top class.   Editing is not up to mark.  May be that there were a last minute cut in a hurry to limit it to 2 hr 30 minutes but I felt at least in 2 places major surgery was done without  any mercy.   (One, where Govinda all of a sudden turn in need of money and two, when Manoj Bajpai is gets hijacked soon after the villain just utters his plan.  I was wondering what is happening around)

The comedy in the film is enjoyable though there are few double meaning dialogues and an extra bit of heat in Upen Patel episode.  Otherwise the comedy is quite clean and refreshing.

There are serious flows in the script but the central thread is good and presented in a good manner.

Overall, the film entertains.   The movie has everything in it to make it as a huge hit.  The movie I think is the best comedy released in 2008 so far.   I don't mind watching it again.
