Hum Ho Gaye Aap Ke Movie Reviews

I like this flop and criticized movie
Sep 29, 2011 10:19 PM 3972 Views

Time and again I go back to the words of Aruna Thyagarajan (moviezombie) whom I consider the best ever movie reviewer on MS (now she has left MS) - Review is about feelings and what the movie evokes in one. Moviemaking and movie viewing is so subjective....never know who it reaches out to and how. Very true, very true indeed. A movie (or a book) may not be liked by the majority but it may appeal to somebody. A flop or unsuccessful fictional work may strike a chord with a particular person. And then the review of that work by that person particular is bound to be positive because he (or she) has found something likeable in it, something in that has touched him (or her).

The same thing is applicable to myself and the movie I am reviewing. This movie was released on 03rd August, 2001 and not only almost all the reviewers brushed it aside like anything but also it flopped so badly that it was telecast on Zee TV on 29th September, 2001 only, i.e., exactly a decade back. I had watched it during that telecast only and after a decade I am penning its review. The readers (who have watched this movie) may or may not agree to my analysis and assessment of this movie. However as I have mentioned in the first para, it's my subjective opinion.

Good guys. Bad guys. Good gals. Bad gals. Should the youths be categorized in such stereotypes ? To be fair - no. However the public opinion is expressed through stereotypes only which become labels for people. As we know, since a person's public image walks ahead of him, the virtues of a guy (or a gal) who has been labelled as a bad one, are ignored like anything. But the fact is, the personalities of real flesh and blood human-beings contain gray shades. A person labelled as good may do something bad and correspondingly, a person labelled as bad may prove his goodness when the time strikes.

Hum Ho Gaye Aapke (I have become yours) is the story of Rishi (Fardeen Khan) who is the well-known brat of a business family containing only his father (Suresh Oberai). He is deprived of mother and sister. And hence he has learnt to see the girls as sex object only and treats every girl coming across him as 'available against generous consideration'. Besides, he is an alcoholic who drinks without caring for the time, the place and who is around him. According to his habit and character, he makes indecent proposal to Chaandni (Reema Sen) who is a middle class girl with a strong personality and high morals. She not only turns down his proposal but also rebukes him. Rishi takes it casually and forgets it under his 'you win some, you lose some' philosophy.

However an employee in Rishi's company, Mohan (Apoorva Agnihotri) comes in contact with Chaandni and befriends her. Chaandni also likes his nature and they become good friends. Mohan becomes emotional about her. When Chaandni is engaged to someone else, Mohan sends her a letter through Rishi saying that he won't be able to live without her. Rishi takes this much pain because he considers Mohan his close friend, not just an employee in his concern. Chaandni feels it appropriate to respond to Mohan's sentiments who comes from a modest background and longs for true love of someone. Hence she runs away from her marriage and reaches Mohan's house alongwith Rishi. But she is taken aback to find that Mohan proves himself to be a coward and hypocrite. He bows before the pressure and emotional blackmail of his selfish and old-fashioned parents (who want to marry him somewhere else for the sake of dowry) and refuses to accept Chaandni in his life.

Now Chaandni feels quite lonely and supportless in the world because now she cannot go back to her parental house also. Rishi offers her to move to his home and promises her decency and safety (from himself also). She feels that despite apparently being a brat, Rishi is not bad by heart. She trusts him and moves to his household where Rishi's father welcomes the unexpected guest with surprise. With her good behaviour, pleasant manners and kind-heartedness, she wins the hearts of all who come into her contact there. She joins Rishi's office also and as she is able to locate the virtues in Rishi's personality, she not only gets closer to him but also becomes successful in transforming his personality (after understanding the reason behind his spoilage). Mohan tries to be close to her again but she keeps him at bay (though forgives him).

Rishi's father comes to know that his son has started loving Chaandni but he hurts Chaandni's self-respect by indicating to her that she is a gold-digger and trapped Rishi in her love for the sake of her social and monetary security. She gets out of Rishi's house and life only to be reunited with him in the end.

The movie is an emotional one and underscores the importance of company. Not only a man is known by the company he keeps but also a man is shaped by the company he gets. A good guy can be spoilt in bad company but his personality can be cleansed of the evils through good company which can act as a catalyst to exasperate the good in him and help him to get rid of bad habits and routines.

Director Ahathian has directed the movie properly. The flaws are there in the screenplay as well as the chracterization of certain characters of the story. Still, I found the movie to be emotionally appealing and when it was over, I got the satisfaction of watching a good movie. Just like its subject matter, perhaps the movie also suffered from the labelling by the reviewers (as bad).

The twist in the story when Mohan refuses to accept Chaandni who has run away from her home for his sake only, is very interesting. And before that as well as after that, the director has kept the viewers' interest alive for the major part of the movie. It may be a flawed movie but not a boring movie (at least in my opinion). There is no undue digression in the storyline and it moves towards the desired end only right from the word 'go'.

Nadeem Shravan's music is a big asset of the movie. The title track (sung by Alka Yagnik and Kumar Sanu) is the best one which has been picturized very romantically. Other songs are also pretty good to listen. The music directors have kept the melody intact while composing the tunes which was true to their reputation in that period.

The dialogues are also appealing and impressive. Cinematography, editing, art direction and production value aspects are all up to the mark.

It's the debut movie of Reema Sen who not only looks pretty but has performed also quite well. Despite being the hero-oriented film, it's her character which is the pivotal wheel of the script. Fardeen Khan is not a very good actor but he has done satisfactorily in the assigned role. Among others, Suresh Oberai is excellent, rest all are routine. Apoorva Agnihotri has tried his level best as Mohan but his characterization itself is defective and unreal.

Hum Ho Gaye Aapke is not a great movie but it is not so bad also as it was criticized. It touched me perhaps because I am a very sentimental person or perhaps the message of the movie matched my own thoughts about people. Well, I firmly opine that a good seed needs good soil, clean water, healthy environment and proper nurturing also to grow into a stout tree.

Since I liked this movie and it evoked positive feelings in me, I am recommending it with my rating of 2.5 stars.

Well, Rishi Oberoi (Fardeen) is a son of a wealthy industrialist Suresh Oberoi and wealth has degenerated Rishi to such an extent that he sleeps every night with a new girl. He is a debauched and knows his own language of transgression of his priceless-youth.

One day he sees Chandni (Reema Sen), a beautiful college girl, at a beauty contest. He then and there decides to enjoy her at least a night. At the contest, Fardeen is accompanied by his college-mate Mohan (Apurva Agnihotri). But Mohan is really impressed with the girl’s positive attitude and poise towards life. Meanwhile, Rishi sends her a proposal while Mohan sends a cassette that says that he is really impressed with her outlook towards life. As she is a decent girl, she rejects the indecent proposal of Rishi and accepts the proposal of Mohan. Mohan is a poor guy who has nothing behind him. All what is with him are hard daily-life, little budget and a little emotional deportment. He is so much laden with his weak-pocket that he decides to decline the love for Chandni and cannot stand by her love.

As Chandni is forsaken by Mohan who had promised her to marry, she becomes shameful both at the college and her home. Then she decides to take refugee as a guest in the house of the debauched guy, Rishi. Well, he is no more a debauched. Love in him sprouts for her and soon he falls in love with her. Now guess what could be the end of the story. well nothing new init its just old in new way......

Chandni takes advantage and be with Rishi at his place with all the requiments and she starts working in his office tooo, but all of a sudden she doesnt like anyone saying bad things about any of the guys well mistery lies till the end where she leaves Rishi saying she doesnt like him ....... but Rishi likes Chandi alot and leaves everything for her.... but still stone hearted girl just moves away.....

Venus Records & Tapes Ltd.'s HUM HO GAYE AAP KE, written-directed by Ahathian, is a remake of the Tamil hit GOKULATHIL SEETHAI, which was also made in Kannada as KRISHNA LEELE.

HUM HO GAYE AAP KE tells the story of Rishi (Fardeen Khan), son of billionaire Oberoi (Suresh Oberoi), who doesn't believe in love or the institution of marriage and feels that money can buy everything in the world. Till one day, when he realises that one thing that can never be bought is love.

Mohan (Apoorva Agnihotri) is Rishi's college friend. Hailing from a middle class family, he is employed in Rishi's office. Mohan is a strict believer in love and is looking forward for the right partner.

Enters Chandni (Reema Sen), a beautiful middle class girl, who believes in love, traditional values and morals. Both Rishi and Mohan are never the same again.

Chandni's entry causes upheaval in their lives. But who wins her hand in the end?

The plot is waferthin and has been witnessed umpteen times on the screen earlier. A rich, spoilt brat falling in love with a simple, middle class girl, has been presented in a new avtaar this time.

But HUM HO GAYE AAP KE does not rise beyond the ordinary because what could've been conveyed in 14 reels has been needlessly stretched to 17 reels. The impact of the most delicate sequences, therefore, gets diluted.

On the script level, the film has so many loopholes that it is difficult to fathom how the film did remarkable business when made in two regional languages before.

To cite instances, when the heroine runs away from her marriage mandap, no effort is made by her mother to trace her or find out her whereabouts. Even the groom (Mahesh Thakur) conveniently agrees to let the bride unite with her lover and suggests that he would marry her sister instead. This looks absolutely far-fetched!

Prior to that, the romance between Apoorva Agnihotri and Reema Sen looks abrupt. In his very first meeting, he proposes marriage to her and surprisingly, she doesn't rule out the possibility either.

Coming back to the marriage scene, when Reema spots Fardeen driving the car, she reacts with a smile, although she should've been aghast to see Fardeen there, since, prior to this sequence, Fardeen had directly told her that he would have her in his bed one day.

In the post-interval portions, Reema's love for Fardeen is not well defined. In the pre-climax, Suresh Oberoi's somersault takes the viewer by surprise. It adds to the length of the film and makes the goings-on dreary.

Even the climax in the train is hardly sensitive. For, the heroine suddenly breaks down and admits her fault. A more appropriate ending could've been thought of.

Director Ahathian has handled certain moments with aplomb, but as a writer, he relies too heavily on the tried-and-tested formula to convey the story. Though a few individual sequences are well treated, the outcome is cumbersome due to the excessive length.

In the second half specially, a majority of songs come up without a valid situation. Even otherwise, the second half is lengthy and can do with some trimming.

Nadeem-Shravan's musical score is the only redeeming aspect. The film has lilting numbers that are strikingly picturised as well. Those that stand out are 'Pehli Baar Dil Yu', 'Love Me Just For The Day', 'Dekho Ye Deewana Maara Gaya' and the title track (surprisingly, the song is picturised on two dancers!).

The picturisation of a couple of songs at the lush locales of New Zealand enhances the visual appeal of the film. Cinematography (Ravi Yadav) is first-rate. Dialogues (Sunil Kumar Agarwal) are functional.

Fardeen Khan is an absolute miscast in the role of a casanova. The role required an actor of calibre and though Fardeen tries hard, he does not succeed. In the first half specially, he looks awkward and ill-at-ease. Reema Sen looks pretty and does a decent job. Apoorva Agnihotri does not impress.

This is the worst ever film I have ever seen.Director Ahathian is totally confused on whatever he has to offer. Fardeen Khan is shown as a rich boy who smokes, drinks and even needs a different girl in the bed everyday. He Proposes Reema Sen who falls for Apoorva Agnihotri who happens to be working in Fardeen Khans Office. And the sacrifice is the same as in all the hindi films. The only saving factor of the movie is music by Nadeem-Shravan. Of the actors Apoorva Agnihotri hams, Reema Sen is wooden all the time and Fardeen Khan is the worst of them all.Even editing, camerawork, choreography and dialogs are well below par. Over and above give this film a miss

Yawn...the movie is too complicated for the average public. At the end of it all,I was left wondering as to what was the actual story was.Let me try to explain...

Rishi Oberoi(Fardeen) is a spoilt brat who believes in enjoying life with both the sharab and shabab. As he idiotically says,'Zindagi Kya Hai? Ek haath mein Sharab,Doosre mein Shabab'. He falls for Chandni(Reema Sen) and floods her with gifts. But,Chandni resists him and falls in love with Mohan(Atul Agnihotri). But,her parents set up her wedding with a local doctor. At the nick of time,Fardeen arrives and carries her off to Mohan. But,Mohan refuses to marry her since she cannot bring dowry.Fardeen then reforms, offers his home and heart to Chandni and they certainly make a long process out of it..

Hope you could make sense out of it,I certainly couldn't.Except for the story, the movie is quite good in all the other aspects.Fardeen's acting is good,Reema Sen makes an impressive debut into bollywood. The music is catchy. It is not a movie I would recommend, unless you are a fanatic on love, romance etc.

Average story about a young smart college girl (Reema Sen) who is in love with a simpleton (Apoorva Agnihotri). Circumstances makes Apoorva Agnihotri ditch reema sen. Apoorva Agnihotri's playboy boss (Fardeen Khan) gives her aide in his house and falls in love with her. Nothing tthat you havent heard or seen before. The climax on the train is very finely directed. The scene where apporva agnihotri tries to convince his parents to marry reem sen will go in the history of hindi cinema as one of the worst scenes ever. The saving grace of the film is fardeen khan. Screen debut for reema sen.

Psst -

1) The climax scene aboard the train is a tribute to bimal roy's Bandini's Climax.
